I'm still mad how they essentially almost completed an entire relationship system (including rivalry and romance), complete with reputation, dialogues, companions, a house point system and even a wanted system (prefects get the Incarcerous stun spell) but they decided to completely throw all of it into the trash seemingly in the last minute.

      >inb4 source?
Some modders datamined the code and found near complete versions of the systems mentioned above. There's a mod that was able to restore the companion system in the game but the other systems are too tricky to restore IIRC.

We can only guess. Ganker had a fricking field day when it way discovered, you might find the thread in the archives if you use that image I posted.
          Most likely scenarios include:
          > management rushed the game and they couldn't complete these systems
          > they didn't want to upset the twitter crowd with romancable schoolgirls/boys (pay no mind that there was romance already in Goblet of Fire, year 4, and HogwartsLegacy takes place in the 5th year)
          > they didn't want to filter the morons with the """complex""" school systems like housepoints and schedules
Your guess is as good as any.

            >upset the twitter crowd with romancable schoolgirls/boys

            >they didn't want to upset the twitter crowd with romancable schoolgirls/boys
Probably this. It's considered taboo to imply that children and teens have relationships these days. God forbid anybody hold hands before the day they turn 18!
If the Harry Potter books were written today people would've taken issue with the underage romance in them too.

Arguably it doesn't look good when a 40 year old balding man (an average Harry Potter fan) simps for imaginary 16 year old schoolgirls, so maybe it's good that the game didn't turn into a dating sim.

Quidditch being cut because of some mobile game nobody cares about sucks, could have easily made it a online thing so people from different houses could play against each other
I wonder if WB or someone told them to cut a lot of the RPG stuff to save it for a sequel or whatever, something as minor as choosing your characters background or sitting down in a chair was dropped. its so weird

For some reason, I think of Lord of the Rings when I think of Harry Potter. Probably because they were both really big around the same time. I never liked Harry Potter and I would sit in the library scoffing at the Harry Potter fangirls while reading Tolkien. I guess it was because of the school setting. I thought wizards were cool as shit but thought young school wizards were boring.
Anyway, I liked the game significantly more than I thought I would, so I'm glad it was the best seller. It was unironically the best game released last year.

It was nice, very comfy and the female voice acting was cute. Story was ok, definitely made with care and creativity. Combat system was tight and simple, just enough variety to try different approaches. Broom was fun. Hogwarts and those haunted woods are something special the first few times you see them. If they put out a massive expansion that fleshes out the whole school system, side quests, enemy variety, loot, spells, maybe pvp, it could be a genuinely great game

I don't really like the concept of Harry Potter becauze wizards going to baby wizard high school so they can graduate to get wizard jobs at the wizard office is just about the lamest way to create a magical world. However I appreciated the whimsical fairytale scenery that changed with the seasons, and the magic creatures and puzzles etc. reminded me we need a new fable game...

        Are you stupid b***h?

        Anonymous

        >why is that lame?
because rowling is a massive neoliberal blairite who correctly depicts the wizard government as being an oppressive bureaucratic nightmare run by incompetent cowards, yet this issue is never addressed and at the end harry grows up to be a wizard cop and work for the government.
It's a strange situation where the only side advocating for radical change is voldemort, but he's bad because he's a nazi. The bad guys want to change the system, and correctly perceive that the state is ineffectual and treats intelligent magical non-humans as second class citizens and whatnot, but in the end voldemort has to be wrong because he has absurd racial beliefs.
However, the main characters never take a contrary position to voldemort; harry is never an agent of radical change in the positive direction, and he barely ever cares about the systematic injustices of the wizard world unless they affect him personally or one of his close friends. He takes totally milquetoast political positions and is rarely his own agent, and when he kills voldemort it's not due to his own abilities or skills, but instead is the result of some arbitrary technicalities. In the end, nothing in the world actually improves, the bad guys just end up dead, but all the problems in the world unrelated to the wizard nazis are never addressed.
The only character who really shows any moral strength is hermione, who is mocked for wanting to free house elves from slavery. It belies the writing of someone who also does not hold any serious moral stances other than support for the state and its authoritarian practices. To rowling, the system works perfectly fine as it is, and if there are problems then the solution is simply to get the Good People in positions of power so that they can use the bureaucratic nightmare corporation called the british government to focus its efforts on just the Good Policies, instead of the bad stuff other people might want. That's why it's lame.

Does anyone actually like or care about the plot of Harry Potter?

I think JK just got kind of lucky coming up with such a cool unique premise of a magic school that carried the whole franchise, just look at those garbage magical beast movies she made and tell me she's a good writer.

It's unique in that most people agree, no one really cares about Harry or the other characters - just the charm of magic and the whimsical nature of the world is very endearing, they nailed this feel in the first two films and that's why they're still peak comfy watches

I think the fan adoration wasn't mostly directed to the characters specifically, but instead to what they represent.
Almost every main and supporting character in the HP series is really generic. Malfoy was the rich bully, Snape was the misunderstood teacher, none of them were really unique but they represented a trope that resonates with people, possibly because they experienced this too in their lives and that's a good thing!
They could have fallen in love with anyone else filling the boots of the main bully, because I ultimately think those people are into the concept of falling for the bully and not Malfoy himself as a character. Obviously, this is not true for everyone, but I think this to be the case for the majority.

Harry Potter works because all these character tropes are found in the whymsical magical school no one can attend, but everyone wants to. It's like the picture perfect place, with PERFECT stereotypical people and things anyone would want in such a setting.
                >(You), the blank slate also magically rich and famous probably
                >the good, loyal friend you meet day one
                >the nerd girl friend who knows everything
                >the stereotypical spoiled rich kid bully complete with his bully entourage
                >the stereotypical good and bad teachers bad teachers are almost always just misunderstood or literally mage hitler who's okay to hate
                >the stereotypical janitor
                >the stereotypical headmaster who knows everything
                >the guy who blows stuff up, the guy who doesn't want to get their club (house) into trouble they are not bad, but you need the stereotypical plot point
                >the sport (You) can be good at
                >the stereotypical classes you like, don't userstand or hate
                >literally mage nazis you can fight without having to worry about morality
                etc. etc.
The more you look into it the more noticable this becomes and honestly that's part of the charm.

Harry is a Christ allegory (very obvious in book 7) and redeems the wizarding world on a spiritual level by sacrificing himself to stop Voldemort. It's revealed that Harry survived the killing curse as a baby because his mother's love for him created a magical barrier and love in the end is the most powerful form of magic This contrasts with Voldemort who has every magical power except love. Harry doesn't solve the political problems of wizarding society any more than Jesus solved politics, but what makes him special is that he deeply relates to the society and its inhabitants more than any other. For example, Hermione tries to solve the problem of elf slavery but by far the most meaningful elf relationship in the series is Harry's and Dobby's, and Harry plants the seed of elf liberation by granting Dobby his freedom in book 2. Harry becoming an Auror is not just him becoming a "wizard cop", but a nod to the fact that is greatest motivation is resisting evil and his vocation is to fight it (Defence Against the Dark Arts is the only class he excels over Hermione in; in fact he's the best in the entire school at it by the end).

Anon... people like Harry Potter because of the whimsical school life stuff but with potions class instead of linear algebra. The overwhelming majority doesn't care about the later-on implications of magic school, the point is the percieved fun of attending a literally magical education system, meeting new people and getting into adventures.

The original cracked version has micro stutters, there are 3 updates that work with the original crack but they don't compile shaders. The only way to play a good cracked version is to compile shaders with the un-updated original release and play on the 3rd update. Also, it's not worth the effort. The game isn't very good. I liked Horizon Forbidden West more and I didn't even like Horizon.

In fact political boycotts in general always backfire, because the average fan doesn't care enough about politics to engage in the boycott, but the people who weren't going to originally buy something but strongly disagree with the politics behind the boycott will suddenly at least check out / consider buying the item

We need a real magic focused game. And not just your typical firing skills off cooldown.

I noticed in Just Cause 4 they let you add modifiers to stuff like tethers, balloons, and boosters and do cool shit in a sandbox. There should be something like that but for a magic focused game - custom colors on spell effects, a million ways to combine and add spells and modifiers, etc.

All the magic in most games at their core are just single target ranged damage, aoe damage, aoe slow, aoe root, etc. We've all played with those a million times.

Needs more live-service microtransaction mechanics. They got halfway there with the cosmetics but each one of them should cost $1.99. They should also introduce a Quidditch League that functions like Madden, especially with booster packs of players and cosmetics. There's a huge missed opportunity not having purchasable mounts, interactable dorm customizations, and character-specific DLC since there's a built-in gaming currency setup in the franchise with Galleons, Knuts, and Sickles.
