Curious, what do people play DD for? The world is empty, theres only handful of enemies, the combat does not challenge you and there is no plot.

        Anonymous

The original had a lot of the same issues but it had a charm to it in spite of all those things. And while not especially challenging the combat and controls were responsive and pleasing and so the gameplay was fun almost in spite of itself. This new one has none of that. I am so disappointed.

they''re there but they're just bland. Grigori has no memorable lines, they fricked up his voice, and he barely shows up in the game. Then you have a shitty attempt at not-Game of Thrones plot with a mystery homie talking to you telepathically.

Dragon's Dogma is mostly atmosphere/world focus rather than direct story. Learning about the seneschal and the cycle gives room for goofy interpretations and was the hook rather than the story itself.

Currently, my leading theory is that DD2 is a prequel/prototype of DD1. It explains alot of the origins of DD1 like Pawns, Godsbane and Will while having seemingly inferior callbacks.

Basically, Worlds randomly pop into existiance in the rift but get consumed quickly by oblivion as well.

The Great Will (hi elden ring) took notice and decided the best way to stabalize it is to craft a story for all of its denizens to play a role, the Dragon's Dogma. It sends the Dragon to terrorize the world and basically have everyone support Arisens to defeat it become king and lead the world, die as a regular human and then Grigori respawns.

Turns out most Arisens are moronic so GW sends an Ur-pawn with godlike power, the Pathfinder aka fem Seneschal and its role is to keep the story exactly on-rail via pawns and Brine.

The whole system seems to be running on Autopilot as GW fricked off but it turns out the solution to the oblivion problem was making someone's Will strong enough to take on the World and it took many Arisens to figure it out that it can be used to break the cycle and for you to get the Godsbane.

So the ending happened because you managed to admin delete the Dragon/yourself out of the whole cycle with the Godsbane. The pathfinder tells you fricked up and your world starts to get consumed by Oblivion but by its role/purpose, it still keeps you locked in.

You do the whole unmoored world and have the final fight where the Pathfinder possess the Dragon's Corpse and you Godsbane her, finally freeing the world from its railroading and Out of Bounds killzone. The ending is showing some of NPC friends discovering new worlds and presumably one is DD1.

Your fate is shown a shitty fade to white but I think they will explain it better in DLC that you become the first Seneschal with the Godsbane to keep the new world stable but eventually you gas out so you do the whole DD1 thing (learning from DD2) and someone else godsbane you and you move on.

Always has been. The whole thing is very Nietzschian Zoroastrian/Gnostic nonsense.
Makes for amusing power fantasies. You get your mary sue protagonist that "wills to power" over the demiurge.
but it's still all subject to cyclical eternal returns and understanding that reality/will is 'wisdom'.
Fun for games, but self aggrandizing metaphysics for slack jaw mouth breathers that never accomplish anything themselves. Gamers. You. Me.

For example, in 2 Grigori doesn't even have a lair. DD1 felt like an adventure towards the dragon lair, you know where you had to go at the start of the game. In DD2 the homie just pops out of the sky like he was shat out by some higher entity at the end of the game.

there are tons of iconic characters and dialogue in DD1, there are so few in DD2 you have to force yourself to look for them. it's sad, nobody would complain if they just ripped mercedes, julian, fournival, madeleine, selene, mason, etc into this game. instead we have what, fricking ulrika? The only reason DD2 isn't a disappointment on the level of MGSV to me is because there's still hope for an expansion.

I don't like it, but they're clearly going for a more party oriented design. Functionally making the player character moronic, less responsive, means relying more on force multipliers pawns facilitate.

Its fine, I dig that enough. But it definitely falls apart completely when walking on any slope of any significance in the unreasonably incongruent uneven terrain, nevermind the 'cool stuff', like standing on monsters.

I can deal, and even appreciate for what it is. But for sure, I don't think the weighty movement was necessary to achieve similar affects. Really makes exploration a more frustrating experience than it needs to be, with inexplicable 'slopes' suddenly throwing the player into death spirals.

it's almost certain the development hasn't been going 4 years. Those leaks with timetables from years and years back were optimistic and hopeful, and before covid. This reeks of a product that got started up due to the sudden resurgence in popularity DDDA had in the middle of covid, using scraps of assets, ideas, plotlines, and mechanics from DDON. Before release I would have said "I'm pretty sure they cut content to re-release" but with how much they changed, I don't have as much hope. I think it's sold beyond well enough to justify some DLC though.

      >The only reason DD2 isn't a disappointment on the level of MGSV to me is because there's still hope for an expansion.
I'm expecting a big expansion for DD2 and it's one of the reasons why I'm still keeping an eye on this game. But at the same time, I feel pessimistic about the extent to which they'll support this game post-release. The sad truth is this probably won't be anywhere on the same level as Fallout/TES/Starfield, but it fricking should be. If DD2 had that support from Capcom as a Bethesda game, even without mods, this game could have been great. Imagine multiple DLC expansions with different biomes/themes, constant bug fixes, QoL improvements, added difficulty modes, etc.

It's hard to say for sure whether we'll have potentially amazing game on our hands in the near future, or if the disappointment hasn't reached its peak yet. That is the dichotomy here, and it's depressing to think about.

Development started before Covid. They finished DMC5 and Itsuno quickly got most of the DMC team ready for DD2. One save slot, obfuscation about where the saves are (just say what level you're at in the inn save or whatever), unclear menus, and the saves ONLY being created at an inn is genuinely moronic. Save systems like this have been figured out for decades. Nobody complains about the Souls save system where you can't reverse your progress and it saves constantly, so it's not a matter of being hardcore. It's a matter of the system being unclear and fricking you over really easily because it's unclear. It's TRIVIAL to just make a little menu showing your saves, the time played, the level, the location, and even a little screenshot thumbnail of the screen when you saved.

you can make manual saves at any point, every complaint about progress getting reset is absolute morons accidentally choosing to load the last inn rest instead of the last save

the save system actually DOES have a pretty catastrophic bug where you can't load non-inn saves AT ALL, but that's getting drowned out by the mouthbreathers who picked the wrong option and decide it's the game's fault.

The guy just complaining in the thing I responded to deliberately chose the last inn save, intending to reload it, but without knowing that it didn't count camping. Because there is nothing indicating that and it doesn't tell you when the save is, and it doesn't allow you to reverse going to that save. This is an easy problem to fix, just TELL the player when the save is with some information that's trivial to relay. There's no reason not to do it. Making an unclear and obfuscated save system is moronic and the only thing it does is frick players over. Again, nobody has these issues with stuff like Elden Ring because it's clear how it works, despite that system being even more "hardcore" than DD2's.

          >the save system actually DOES have a pretty catastrophic bug where you can't load non-inn saves AT ALL, but that's getting drowned out by the mouthbreathers who picked the wrong option and decide it's the game's fault.
One huge bug doesn't invalidate the other issues with a system. There's no reason to defend a system that's messy, obfuscates information, and can easily frick you over. The fact that lots of people are having this issue isn't just a "they're bad at reading" problem. It's a poorly-designed save system. Like I said, if they just put a picture of when the save was, had a bit of info telling playtime, level, and date, and had it in a menu next to your non-inn save's similar info, it would NOT be a fricking problem for anybody. And that's easy to do.

            not that anon but
            >deliberately chose the last inn save, intending to reload it, but without knowing that it didn't count camping.
does it say last rest or last inn? sounds like an illiteracy problem, not an issue with the system

Pretty sure it says Last Inn Save at the main menu.
But consider that you can buy a house and that there are two scenarios
              >Your house does not count as an inn save, which is deranged.
              >Your house does count as an inn save, which makes the name inaccurate.
Just tell the fricking player when the save was. Ganker complains all the time about skills that don't give enough detail about what they do, and this is infinitely worse than this. There is NO REASON not to tell the player when the save was before they load it.

I dunno man, it's fricking weird that it doesn't include camps under the last safe location save. Especially considering how much more use you get out of camps than inns when you're out in the wilderness.

doesnt the game literally tell you to save at inns often in the very first encampment? sad it happened but this guy is a moron

the frustation is fricking palpable here, this happened once in the first DD and it hurt me, though it was just 1 hour lost, since then i just used retry for that very reason.

This issue would easily be fixed by treating the camp as the same as an inn when it comes to saving. Also I get that he's mad but he's are moron if he thinks this is just to get him to buy mtx when that doesn't fix that

Jesus thats rough. Im having a blast with the game, and it would crush me to go through this. The saving decisions are insane.

Why does it have such a bad save system? What's the rationale?

Probably to avoid save scumming or to keep saves close together for pawn syncing but these reasons dont really hold up in the long term.

I have no idea how people have this happen to them. I got gored by a chimera last night and when i reloaded the game started me from the middle of the wilderness, 50m away from the chimera. Tried again, killed it, then camped and was on my way. Next time i reloaded the save i was at my last camp. How did this poor guy frick his save like that? Mine seems to save after every combat encounter that i win

he clicked on 'reload from last inn', that option really seems to be there specifically to frick you over

          it's an emergency save point.
I've needed to use it a couple of times. Like if you explore a mountain you can climb but can't drop down from. You'll just respawn back in that area with no escape.

            Anonymous

sure but his complaint is fair - it should actually tell you how far behind that save point is, before overwriting your one closest autosave. A simple (hours played) or similar would've solved it.

The writing in this feels so bad to me. Maybe because it's a new game and I have higher expectations these days. I don't need a grand in depth plot, but the performances and lines here are so bad I they seem machine generated.

Im just here to fight things. Killed my first chimera a few seconds ago.
Its just some undertones of politics and racism for now where im at. Last quest i did had a beastren captain who engages you in a sumo fight (which he loses with a parry and a shield bash) and then when something bad happens he gets fired because of it, which is kind of slightly more nuanced writing than id expect from "fantasy racism bad!" type shit. Other than that im not interested.

The characters in DD2 are so boring it's a downgrade from DD1. You don't interact with the queen like you did the duke, there's no jester no backstabbing prostitute princess no nothing.

      Anonymous

Julien and the cult leader were much better antagonists, and i liked how you had more interactions with them (and the king) during the story, instead of barely even interacting with the new villains
      i miss mercedes
      i miss madeliene
      i miss selene
having a prince instead of the queen help you out is lame, and you barely interact with the actual royalty outside of stealing stuff behind their back and the prostitutes questline
the childhood friend was so bland (although the childhood friend wasnt too great in the original either, but becoming a nun was hot)

its honestly one of my biggest complaints. none of the characters really stuck out besides the prostitute and the sphinx (if that counts). but the prostitute just fricks off after her quest so its short lived. i thought theyd develop more later in the story, but the story just kind of ended when i thought it was just getting good
