After the failed launch of the steam controller and their total abandonment of the product I decided I'll never be buying hardware from steam ever again. This is no different than Xbox giving up on their controller, or sony telling you to fuck off they aren't making anymore an just to buy a madcatz instead or something.
Sorry, but I don't think about the Steam OLED, or the steam deck at all. I'm not buying one. Not fooling me a second time. Ever.
>Xbox giving up on their controller, or sony telling you to fuck off they aren't making anymore an just to buy a madcatz instead or something
They both still make controllers anon??
Your whole post is very dramatic, like Valve scammed you for your bitcoin keys or something lol.
Was going to get one. Found out about panel loto. Now they can fuck off. I'd rather spend my $600 on a new component
>failed launch of the steam controller and their total abandonment of the product
genuine question, why is this a problem? are you just upset that they haven't made a second one?
if you bought one, it still fucking works

What is up with the panel?
Two suppliers (Samsung and BOE) already confirmed by the code base, this isn't speculation, it's confirmed.

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/gamescope/blob/05407167cd843ddb59f71d3209d7f8751e526ae5/src/drm.cpp#L906
Basically it's a 3DS situation where some units are going to have a superior display and it's a dice roll when buying whether you get the shit one or not.
>this isn't speculation, it's confirmed
the only thing that is confirmed is that there are two different panels, nothing more
we don't know if one is drastically worse or not
we don't know if both will actually ship on retail devices - one could have been for prototyping
if you're worried about it, just wait a few weeks and see what happens, no need for hysterics
Anon, two different manufacturers with two different production facilities can't produce like panels even from the same spec. And where difference exists, one panel is guaranteed to be inferior. "They won't be on retail units" is just cope and you know it. Name a single historical precedent for this. It's never happened. But what frequently happens is panel lotos
you may well be right
i was not trying to argue that it won't happen, only that we don't know
to pretend that we do know is dramatic and speculative
as i said, if you were considering buying and this concerns you, just wait a few weeks to see what happens
since when is being reasonable the same as coping?
as i understand it, they had to make board changes to accomodate the oled panel, so that would not have been possible -- same reason that you will not be able to buy the oled panel component and swap it on your lcd model
There was a lot of space saved with the OLED panel (so some sort of adapter for the new ribbon cable and board is theoretically possible) but the percent of people that would perform it on the OG is miniscule due to the complexity of removing the old screen.
I have never had a handheld console in my life.
I've actually never had a console at all in my life, I'm pure PC.
So I don't have any thoughts about it.
I mean, it kind of is a PC and a handheld too so I suppose you could try it in the future.
It is a pure PC.
>>no threads on Ganker
have a nice day you fucking retard.
We already had 92384234832 threads about it, which die in a few hours, unlike Ganker where threads last 2 weeks, retard.
Waiting for /ourking/ ecker to get one.
Is it free? No? Skip

Steam Controller was due to patent lawsuit. Steam Link app is still supported as well as Valve Index.

It's not even out yet.

Delta vs Huayang fan all over again
Two suppliers: Samsung and BOE (see all of the issues with BOE OLED screens on iPhones)
OLED is a meme
Should've just been a user-serviceable screen replacement a separate hardware refresh.

you're right, so not impossible but simply impractical
Buy an ad
>Never gave a shit about it on 3DS
>never gave a shit about it on Vita
>Never gave a shit about it on switch
Why would i give a shit about it now?
i am looking forward to the reduced fan noise more than the panel
I think I'm going to buy it to emulate switch games
same
what are the chances it'll be sold out immediately?
I'm addicted to oled and HDR. I'll probably get one. 90hz and the bigger battery sound great.
