Yeah perfect timed hits/perfect timed blocks are REALLY fucking hard.
Most people can get the normal timed hits/blocks but the perfects are a son of a bitch
Is the Super Suit still going to be 100 jumps in a row?
Probably, I've never gotten it legit, always using saved states and that is still a bitch and a half. The first 50 are dooable with practice, after that you might as well just have a RNG machine hooked up for 1/100000 chance of getting it every time you talk to the dog for how hard those jumps get.
The fact it changes speed/rhythm is total bullshit. I'm just surprised it was something so hard in a game that is really easy even for kids/people new to RPGs.
I don't think I could regularly get to 50, I usually fucked up halfway to that because it'd swap around.
Most of the issue was that the game had bad frame data. So you could have the game fail to render the frame you needed to press Y on and you just auto fail no matter when you press Y. If it could keep a consistent 30 frames, it wouldn't have been an issue, but being at 29 frames most of the time meant that every few jumps, a crucial frame was skipped. I'm betting that the remake will take that into account if it can't keep a solid 60 frames or whatever they are shooting for. The timing will likely be seperate from the frame being rendered.

That must be what messed me up then. I remember getting everyone I knew to try and do it and nobody could. I don't even know where I learned of it, since I didn't even have internet in the 90s.

I've managed to regularly get it legit, but it requires me to go into zen mode and not blink or move my eyes at all the entire time. By the time I'm finished my vision is a narrow circle with white surrounding it. I can also only do it on a few specific enemies at a specific experience level because I don't count the jumps and know how much damage 100 jumps does on those enemies.
I didn't know about that mechanic.
If Nintendo made a point of showcasing this in the Direct though, they're probably going to make the window much easier to hit.
it sounded like it had to be perfectly timed. I bet that's the catch -- it has to be spot on. The Mario and Luigi games had that as a gimmick, esp Superstar Saga, so why not here?
Honestly, it really is that bad. As boring as Origami King was, at least it had the most captivating story since SPM. Most people don't even play the games for the story, they just play them for the fun turn-based action combat.
Bowser and Mallow's niche was early available crowd control vs Mario and Geno's movesets and Peach being the last character, so unless they get proportional buffs they literally lost the one thing they had going for them.
I mean, the thing Bowser has going for him is being fucking Bowser, I would never not have him on my party after getting him. I would use him if he dealt 1 damage with every attack.
Remake lets you rematch bosses (w/ no Machine Made clones). The Punchinello and Booster battles you saw in this trailer are their new postgame versions. Yes, this means Punchinello survived being flattened, then blown up by the King Bob-Omb he summoned after you beat him.
Now, imagine if we got a postgame superboss as well.
We knew he survived because of the Credits, he went on to make toys for the Children of Moleville. Still, this rematch looks sick, 202 from a hit that wasn't blocked is absolutely dangerous. Croco stealing all of your high level items and then using them against you would be pretty fun. Would mean you want to challenge him when you have no items. Just imagine him using Rock Candy after Rock Candy, or the Bah Bell, a Kero Cola for a full heal on his whole team. Not cool.
Likely one superboss Croco and Belome. I think they'd act as upgraded versions of their prior battles. Croco would be able to heal himself with mushrooms and steal your items, while Belome might be a two-phase battle that'd be similiar to his story battles.
I doubt we will get new skills, but changing stats around would make sense. Changing how skills work would certainly be good though. >Poison changed from 10% to flat damage per turn >Fear changed to not use Magic Defense for chance of infliction >Crusher uses Bowsers Magic stat, but does physical damage and pierces 50% of physical defense.
I'm not sure if you guys have been checking the jp website but psychopath now shows meaningful info besides hp values and funny dialogue
Sweet, now we can know if an enemy is immune to Poison or Fear now. Also if they can be turned into a Sheep with the Bah bell.
Mallow's electric attack was good for crown control, but if timed hits attack everyone, that sucks for him. I guess he's still useful as a healer until Peach.
Not when you have good timing and three characters that can all do this splash damage for free every round.
It might even be superior for speedrunning since its just the quick normal attack animation instead of having to watch skill/spell animations, and that's how you know its busted.
My first thought to this was >they better increase enemy and boss difficulty or give a higher difficulty option to compensate
Of course you know they wont, and it's not exactly the hardest game in the first place.
Game was always easy, fag
That you were a dumb 10 year old when you played it and got blasted because you didn't know how to play or what items did is another thing.
>Bowser
Poison and Fear were based on an enemies Magic Defense. So late game, they were worthless. Poison also only did like 20 damage per turn, because it was percentage based on HP and most things didn't have big HP values. An easy fix would be to simply make the poison inflicted on your different from the poison you can inflict. So it's 10% of HP per turn against you, while it can be 35% against enemies or a flat damage value instead, maybe. Fear being a percentage chance to be inflicted regardless of Magic Defense would also be good, since most enemies deal physical damage and cutting their damage in half would mean that you would remove some of the heavy hitters from one shotting you and might make Bowser king in the Post game rematches. >Mallow
Not enough elemental weakness to make him worthwhile and not enough of the enemies that he does effect have HP enough to survive regular attacks. He would have his niche of hitting big waves, but Geno does that better even if his FP cost is high for Geno Blast. Mallow could be good if more enemies had magic attacks and you needed a magic tank before you got Peach, but once you have her and the Lazy Shell, it's over.
>Not enough elemental weakness to make him worthwhile and not enough of the enemies that he does effect have HP enough to survive regular attacks
The other half of it is there's a decent number of enemies with high physical defense but not magic defense, but it also isn't element specific so Mario or Geno could rip through them just as effectively.
>his whole point is pure physical offense once it starts to matter
Geno out damages him in that regard while actually having worthwhile specials and geno boost alone is better than bowser as a character.
How old were you when you learned healing items were useless when you could just get Pick-Me-Ups?
I was 5 (played it on release pretty much) but it took me a few months.
I never understood in which frame you're supposed to press the button for the perfect ones. I could only do regular timed hits.
There's no practice mode like in M&L to highlight them.
Well, that's why they have the exclamation mark in this game. It remains until you do a perfect timed hit for the weapon you are using or against the enemy animation for the block. So you should have plenty of practice time for it.
they turned it into a Tattle.
so OCDfags and completionists will be forced to use mallow to collect.
honestly, i get it. they want people to use mallow more.
still don't see a point in using Bowser though. no physical AoE, his magic is low so his spells are shit. his magical defense is shit and most enemy AoE is magic. you can swap him for melee only bosses i guess, but that's about it, and Geno Boost probably does a better job anyway
>still don't see a point in using Bowser though.
That assumes he is going to be like his SNES version though. They may simply boost his Magic and Magic Defense stats in this one, or change things around on the equipment, or even give him some of the best Limit Breaks as well.
>Make base game easier, but give us a Post game that is ball breaking hard
I'm for it. More games need to do this shit. The point of the start of the game is to teach good use of the mechanics. RPGs were never particularly hard anyway for their random encounters, they were supposed to be resource hogs and they can still easily do that with the few enemies that have high agility and one shot mechanics. Being able to take out groups with perfect timed hits changes fairly little.
How is Mallow more worthless?
From the damage threshold the AoE generated is like 10% of the normal attack damage, so you will still require a sweeper for normal mobs.
At least mallow is useful until later game. Nimbus cloud heal for Croco, AoE early game when there's none, etc.
Bowser though? Most AoE, if not ALL, is magic based, and he has no magical defense.
Not a surprise. I'm betting that the Piranha Plants won't be walking, even though we know they have stubby legs in their pots because of Petty and other games.
>The power of the third dimension is that power of legend. The power said to far surpass the fluctuations of evil. >Love, friendship, joy…. The power of hope for peace…. It appears this strength is too much for me. >Kukuku…. Now I will vanish…. to that land…. >until I someday gain the power of the third dimension and the fluctuations visit yet-unknown lands..
Calling it now, Culex's first battle will be his original sprite and his second battle will be a brand-new 3D model.
They'll make the first Culex fight his original sprite, then make his second battle use a HD2D version with animations. Or maybe even get his master in on the mix.
They'll make the first Culex fight his original sprite, then make his second battle use a HD2D version with animations. Or maybe even get his master in on the mix.
If Culex gets his original 2D sprite, based.
If Culex gets a new hand-drawn illustration based on Kurashima Kazuhiro's original design, ridiculously based.
If Culex's rematch is where he gains the power of 3D, ludicrously based.
If Culex's rematch is where he gains the power of 3D and they use Fierce Battle from FFVI as the music, unfathomably based.
Well guys, with the knowledge of there being post game re-fights and we know that Culex vowed to return to fight Mario again. Do you think they will keep him a Sprite for the first fight, but make him 3d for the second?
Hopefully they fix his previous localization as well

I bet they will, but will keep his name Culex, even though it makes no sense. He's Crystaller because he uses the Crystals.

Culex might actually be a really out-of-the-way reference to Golbez. >"Golbeza" is a mistransliteration of Golubaeser (also known as Golubac Fly), as Golubaeser and Golbez(a) are written the same way in katakana (ゴルベーザ) >Culex or the typical mosquitos are a genus of mosquitoes

Crystaller is a really dumb name >I USE A SWORD >MY NAME >IS SWORDSTER
Hopefully they fix his previous localization as well
Oh god, I've been wondering that. A post-game/refight Culex sounds great, but I'm worried because he is technically a bonus boss and also a "final boss".
I mean I get keeping him kinda secret by only showing the "for those in the know" part of Monstro Town in the trailer.
Hope they don't limit it to only major bosses.
Because yeah, having his original sprite and then - maybe not 3D model - but like a Octopath Traveler/Artwork sprite refight would be cool.

Imagine >Culex rematch >Culex and the Crystals as usual >Culex now immune until you kill off the Crystals >All but one randomly selected Crystal is also immune >Beating down one crystal makes another one targetable >So long as a Crystal is on the field, Culex gets a second move which restores his FP >When all crystals are beaten up, thus letting you damage Culex, Culex enters a second phase that gives him a stronger moveset >Also changes the music to the Four Fiends music instead of the normal FFIV battle theme.

Could be possible, but I think the one they'd go with is probably the Pixel Remaster one:
I am hoping that they tweak the action command timing presses so they are more coherent with the visual cues. It's so annoying how the press is sometimes during the animation, sometimes when it connects, sometimes when it ends or even 2 seconds later. I want it to be more consistent like in the other Mario RPG games.
On Japanese X I saw a vid that you can select the old music if you want. I don't speak moonrunes so I don't know if there was an option to change this timed hit bullshit.
Equip the feather on geno and you can get a first strike against him, or work pants and feather on toadstool and then cast sleep on him and he wont run away.
>they made Bowser and Mallow even more worthless
How? I always use them a lot, Bowser is a physical monster and a shitload of enemies are weak to Mallow's magic and Thunderbolt never stops being an excellent AoE move.
They ruined the main battle theme.
Listen to this awesome percussion. And how bassy everything sounds on the fucking SNES!
Now listen to the remake.
Almost zero percussion. And it sounds all synthy. Like it was played on a child's keyboard. https://youtu.be/rfYfuAOKTxA?t=490
analyzing the gameplay skits/videos we barely have, it seems the game will make sure to have every enemy have elemental weaknesses. This is probably a way to buff Mallow to be more useful/notable in its meta, along with the Tattle mechanic of psychopath.
It's possible that Bowser's attacks will also be elemental, meaning he can take advantage of a different set of elemental weaknesses.
(On top of just straight up general balance buffing.)

>timed hits in SMRPG remake now damage all enemies >they made Bowser and Mallow even more worthless
Mallow was always worthless.
Though I would assume (hope?) that they increased enemy HP to compensate for this
but yeah Mario+Geno+Peach is gonna completely mog every other party comp, even moreso than it already did
Mario RPG was never that difficult to begin with. I can understand if you're a kid, and it's your first RPG game. But as an adult with some experience under you belt, you shouldn't have any difficulty at all. As long as you do the basic RPG things, like update your equipment, and don't skip battles, then you can breeze through the game.
You don't even need Peach in your party. Anyone who says Peach is a good party member, is still a shitter who relies on heals. As an adult, you shouldn't even be in a position where you need to heal much. A few mushrooms is all you need to get by. Maybe a kerokerocola for emergency situations.
Because you never have to worry about dying, the optimal party for the game is just the one that's most efficient at killing. And that's Mario - Mallow - Geno. Because Mallow's thunder AoE special is a low cost attack that softens all opponents on the field. Even killing especially weak enemies in a single strike. And then Mario and Geno only has to play cleanup.
Geno boost for bosses, and you wreck them. Plus Geno is pretty strong both physically and with specials. So he's just all around great for offense.
I'm so sick of people relying on healers, like that's the only way to play RPGs. Fucking get good losers, lmao.
its so excessively vindictive towards healers in RPGs, I just don't understand why. almost as if RPG's are competitive??? like using a healer means you aren't good enough? its just using the resources you're given.
Well for 1, if you've been online for any length of time, then you've likely seen these topics before, where people debate which character is best. In that debate, there is something of a competition. We're trying to determine who is best, and the most rational argument will win.(or the most emotional in many cases)
2, I've been watching a lot of twitch these last 5 years. And I've personally witness dozens of players verbally state out loud "I need a healer", as if it's a given. As if it's a requirement. If a healer was merely a resource given to you, then why do so many people feel obligated to use them? It's because they *fear* what would happen if they didn't use the healer. That fear comes from playing like a retard, and finding yourself in really bad situations where you HP is constantly low, or you're dying too fast. So you use healers to compensate for your bad playing.

wouldn't a game like that - where you taking undo damage is entirely avoidable and is always the player's fault - have no healer character in the first place? its to my understanding that healers are typically present for when damage is unavoidable and you need a healer to help balance out your battle strategies. sure, items can cut it pretty well, but theres always the chance of the person about to use one getting KO'd, or the item used to barely help at all because of the enemy's damage output effectively negating it. thats where a healer comes in handy with their often ability to heal all, heal full, heal status, and revive, and even allows for alternate choices out of battle by choosing to use your gold for weapons, armor and spells instead of on items. though that in turn introduces the aspect of "what if the healer dies? what now?" its a fine balance to strike in my opinion.

>wouldn't a game like that - where you taking undo damage is entirely avoidable and is always the player's fault - have no healer character in the first place?
Kind of a silly question, when you're inside of a thread about a game, where a healer is not necessary. And yet, one is included. 2, if you count Mallow.
>thats where a healer comes in handy with their often ability to heal all, heal full, heal status, and revive
An easy RPG like Super Mario RPG, gives you items that do all of those things at a reasonable cost. You don't need to purchase that many items throughout the game. I just replayed Mario RPG like a year or two ago, and I bought like 3 of each item.(If I didn't already find them on the field) I didn't use many of the items I bought for the duration of the playthrough. So replenishing supplies rarely happened.
Thus, not much money was spent on items, and I was able to purchase all the new gear I wanted. I'll admit, the meta-game did help a little bit. Like knowing the trick to leveling up. So I maxing out my stats. And knowing how to get the big shells, so I was maximizing attack and defense. Without those, I would probably need to use a few more items. But not so much that using a healer would be better.
There will probably be smithy gang rematches too, you'll fight upgraded V2 versions of them in the factory. There are already clones of them you fight as normal encounters in the final area in the base game, it would make sense to find optional upgraded versions there too.
Considering rematch Booster Loco Express is hitting the damage cap against the entire party, and not one party member like it was in his initial optional battle they probably are going to require a bit more thinking to conquer.
>complaining about difficulty in a turn based rpg
the only "challenge" in turn based combat is giving enemies big numbers to force you to grind so you do the same shit you've been doing but with big enough numbers to pass
Luigi would probably get some of mario's later jump specials as his own, and a focus on jumping as that seems to be his "thing" in modern rpgs.
Yoshi would probably get eat (To eat enemies like when you use cookie) and other rogue-ish skills, I feel like he would be a rogue archetype, yoshi flutter kick would be an easy ability, mash Y to shit out hits, etc.
Wouldn't mind Luigi be half-Mario, half-unique. Maybe even be able to equip most, if not all equipment and accessories that Mario can equip as well. Luigi wasn't very developed back then, so yeah. Keeping it simple would be best. And I can see that on Yoshi, or maybe be like an expert all-or-nothing character for egg throws and eating. Succeed on the action command (releasing button when reticle is on enemy for egg toss or when tongue hits enemy for tongue) to deal heavy damage or turn enemy into an item respectively.
My only real complaint is that they don't depict your equipment and weapons on the character models. The gear has had renders and designs since the original, and they appeared in the strategy guides. That's like the first change I'd want in a remake. Come on.
This is my favorite game of all time but I really can’t find much of a reason to buy this. Wow I can fight the same bosses again..I guess the 3 person super moves you can do are sorta neat but the novelty will wear off pretty fast
Maybe now I can finally get someone to draw my ENF version of the scene in Marrymore where Mario and Bowser accidentally barge into Peach and send her wedding accessories flying. My dirty little mind imagined an alternative where they sent all of her clothes flying off with them. Tried a few times to get it realized, but drawthreads are going through hell in recent years.
based.
You might want to just get it commissioned though, or you'll end up mocked as a repeat requester after some garbage gay draws a stick figure and says your request is done.
Said this in the TTYD thread the mods nuked for some reason after I fell asleep. What exactly is their definition of "post game"? I find it hard to believe any dev is capable of a Earthbound or even TTYD style epilogue considering how lazy devs are these days.
Post means after
it is quite literally a strict definition.
But, they only said "postgame" in text, the voiceover in both EN and JP said "after you beat the bosses, you can revisit them for another match". So, I'm willing to bet there's something extra to reach culex (or whatever may have replaced him, if they did) that you need to beat the bosses for.
Don't expect an epilogue, that's never really been the mario rpg thing.
Mallow was always worthless.
Well shit retard if you knew how to read you'd see that OP says "more" worthless. Implying that he already knows Mallow is worthless. You worthless cunt

Weird decision in general
i never used peach when i beat the game.
healers are for pussies that can't kill shit fast enough
>retard who never gave peach Geno's attacks
lmaoing @urlife
Even if they did its a weird choice and makes the paper mario games seem inconsistent with SMRPG.
It's not like it was an especially hard game to begin with, maybe they just want minor encounters to go faster?
Christ.
There's a reason no one liked Paper Mario 3DS. The battles are the whole point of the game you retard.
>the whole point of mario RPGs is the combat
Honestly, it really is that bad. As boring as Origami King was, at least it had the most captivating story since SPM. Most people don't even play the games for the story, they just play them for the fun turn-based action combat.

*locks an arm into yours*
AND AS WOULD I
And so would I, to be fair.
Luckily, he's still plenty usable in the original, and will be even more usable here.
If they changed that, is it not fair to assume they rebalanced some of the other characters to be better?
Maybe new skills or stats.
yes
i expect rebalances to be a certainty
>tfw Bowser still has 4 measly skills and most of them are still based on his terrible magic stat
Most likely there's going to be some rebalancing of all the characters.
Especially since we know there's postgame boss rematches to be excited about.
Even before the Shell, as soon as Peach gets her multi-heal, you've practically already won the game.
what do you mean post game boss rematches? i know the factory lines were always a thing, but what exactly are you talking about?
You can rematch bosses post Smithy in the remake

In the culex rematch you'll fight not-Cecil and his party who came looking for culex
Will Not-Kain betray Not-Cecil in the middle of the boss battle.
FF4 is full of funny memes
I doubt we will get new skills, but changing stats around would make sense. Changing how skills work would certainly be good though.

Sweet, now we can know if an enemy is immune to Poison or Fear now. Also if they can be turned into a Sheep with the Bah bell.
>THEYRE MAKING THE GAME TOO EASY
>*puts lazy shell on peach*
Technically, you only get that after the 6th star at the earliest.
no, you can get it right after clearing nimbus, which is before the volcano that holds the 6th star. but yes, that is pretty late game.
Peach's stat growth and Mario's offensive output is still crazy even before the Lazy Shells.
Yes.
It does make her heals suck though, you can go from getting a full heal out of group therapy to maybe half or less.
The real difficulty of this game was always 100 super jumps in a row
Smrpg was never hard.
lol
SMRPG is one of the hardest games I've ever played. Welcome news.
You don't play many games then.
Mallow was never worthless, the issue is that peach and genonare busted.
This actually buffs Bowser.
Mallow's electric attack was good for crown control, but if timed hits attack everyone, that sucks for him. I guess he's still useful as a healer until Peach.
Magic will still be useful because the splash damage does reduced damage to the other enemies.
Not when you have good timing and three characters that can all do this splash damage for free every round.
It might even be superior for speedrunning since its just the quick normal attack animation instead of having to watch skill/spell animations, and that's how you know its busted.
I could get it if they made certain specials have splash but adding it to normal attacks for free is nuts unless the timing is crazy strict
My first thought to this was
>they better increase enemy and boss difficulty or give a higher difficulty option to compensate
Of course you know they wont, and it's not exactly the hardest game in the first place.
They won't.
Because they'll pile all that difficulty into the boss rematches. Possibly Culex rematch as well.
Game was always easy, fag
That you were a dumb 10 year old when you played it and got blasted because you didn't know how to play or what items did is another thing.
yes, we know, you don't comprehend that most rpgs have a difficulty slider and you set it to low because you grinded
only way Mallow can redeem himself is if weaknesses matter more now
What would your reaction be if, in the postgame, we get the Dark Mage of Wanda as an even harder superboss?
Is the dialog the same or updated?
Anon, Bowser joined a few maps after Punchinello killed himself.
You can redo fights but its harder.
I assume Booster too. I don't think I remember seeing on the train off track.
Both of those are postgame scenes, according to the trailer.
Those are new scenes for the boss rechallenges.
Unless you're implying Nintendo pulled Ted Woolsey away from Microsoft just for this.
That's the dialogue for the rematches
You get Bowser after you beat Punchinello
New scenes
Was ROB always in there? I don't remember that. Nice they're keeping the references tho, top notch shit
yeah, you can vaguely see rob behind peach.
What is the car? From Stunt Race FX?
It's barely noticeable since it's all pixelated and messy, but those little gray pixel is meant to be him
Not sure why he has a white faceplate, unless that's how it was in the original game, despite some of the usual Mario enemies use modern designs
Not sure honestly, even famicomrobot had a black/bare face. Maybe just a design choice since they had limited pixels to work with I guess.
It's more noticeable after the peach doll is removed.
>Bowser
>worthless
how?
>Mallow
because you can hack Shock on Peach, which will probably be patched out for the remake. So he's at least usable now.
The other half of it is there's a decent number of enemies with high physical defense but not magic defense, but it also isn't element specific so Mario or Geno could rip through them just as effectively.
>bowser as tank
meh. his whole point is pure physical offense once it starts to matter.
>his whole point is pure physical offense once it starts to matter
Geno out damages him in that regard while actually having worthwhile specials and geno boost alone is better than bowser as a character.
Game lets you use the original SNES OST
https://twitter.com/SuperMarioOOC85/status/1702358038680605034
I'll care when they allow you to switch to an old-style interface.
And switch to the SNES graphics
In fact, just port the SNES version
I wonder what mode select means, or what "skip battle plans" means.
Does it just play itself if you turn it off.
The game is easy, and hopefully there is an option to turn it off.
How old were you when you learned healing items were useless when you could just get Pick-Me-Ups?
I was 5 (played it on release pretty much) but it took me a few months.
I would never buy healing items, just use whatever was in the dungeon. And use flower tabs to restore FP when needed
I would stock like 75% of my inventory with PickMeUps back in the day. They were cheap as fuck and healed full hp to anyone downed.
Exactly. Any other form of healing was useless outside of mass healing with peach.
The 100 Super Jumps Challenge will be quite a fun time
I'm not sure if you guys have been checking the jp website but psychopath now shows meaningful info besides hp values and funny dialogue
My bad I think this is actually a bestiary but I wonder if psychopath will show this info too?
Expected but welcomed addition
that's not Psychopath though, that looks like a beastiary. The options on the bottom say
>Go back
>What are you thinking (get the Psychopath dialog)
>Move
>Icon (somethingBower)
they turned it into a Tattle.
so OCDfags and completionists will be forced to use mallow to collect.
honestly, i get it. they want people to use mallow more.
still don't see a point in using Bowser though. no physical AoE, his magic is low so his spells are shit. his magical defense is shit and most enemy AoE is magic. you can swap him for melee only bosses i guess, but that's about it, and Geno Boost probably does a better job anyway
>still don't see a point in using Bowser though.
That assumes he is going to be like his SNES version though. They may simply boost his Magic and Magic Defense stats in this one, or change things around on the equipment, or even give him some of the best Limit Breaks as well.
I love bestiarys, I love foregoing the first turn of every battle to use the game's tattle equivalent, it makes me happy.
Where is that from? The webpage i found is this https://www.nintendo.co.jp/switch/a8lua/
>Making babbies first JRPG even easier
>Make base game easier, but give us a Post game that is ball breaking hard
I'm for it. More games need to do this shit. The point of the start of the game is to teach good use of the mechanics. RPGs were never particularly hard anyway for their random encounters, they were supposed to be resource hogs and they can still easily do that with the few enemies that have high agility and one shot mechanics. Being able to take out groups with perfect timed hits changes fairly little.
Fucking retard making games easier is never the right move have a nice day
wasn't too hyped, but the super strong post-game boss re-matches have me excited now
How is Mallow more worthless?
From the damage threshold the AoE generated is like 10% of the normal attack damage, so you will still require a sweeper for normal mobs.
At least mallow is useful until later game. Nimbus cloud heal for Croco, AoE early game when there's none, etc.
Bowser though? Most AoE, if not ALL, is magic based, and he has no magical defense.
Modern Thwomps
Not a surprise. I'm betting that the Piranha Plants won't be walking, even though we know they have stubby legs in their pots because of Petty and other games.
The entire monster town will be cut
We've seen that they haven't though, it was in the trailer.
>"Golbeza" is a mistransliteration of Golubaeser (also known as Golubac Fly), as Golubaeser and Golbez(a) are written the same way in katakana (ゴルベーザ)
>Culex or the typical mosquitos are a genus of mosquitoes
Crystaller is a really dumb name
>I USE A SWORD
>MY NAME
>IS SWORDSTER
That is literally Mack's Japanese name.
Swordster is a pretty badass name.
Imagine
>Culex rematch
>Culex and the Crystals as usual
>Culex now immune until you kill off the Crystals
>All but one randomly selected Crystal is also immune
>Beating down one crystal makes another one targetable
>So long as a Crystal is on the field, Culex gets a second move which restores his FP
>When all crystals are beaten up, thus letting you damage Culex, Culex enters a second phase that gives him a stronger moveset
>Also changes the music to the Four Fiends music instead of the normal FFIV battle theme.
>>Also changes the music to the Four Fiends music instead of the normal FFIV battle theme.
Speaking of the FFIV battle theme, can you imagine how it's going to sound now? What if it's like the FFXIV version?
It's gonna be Big Band styled. Honestly, not even mad. The more variants, the better.
Could be possible, but I think the one they'd go with is probably the Pixel Remaster one:
I’d love for Zeromus Theme instead
?si=Eem3YWxQA-jjvVRm
>Captcha: S0YY0
I'm glad to see we're getting Culex back, hope they'll also have the casino or a converted but still playable version of it
I wonder if they messed with stat growths. I kinda wanna try some shitty builds like physical Mallow and Spec Bowser
Terrapins and they show that they're Koopas when they fall over. I still don't like that they changed the unknown enemy statue to them
Wasn't the original statue the Hammer Bros?
Maybe early Terrapin designs
I am hoping that they tweak the action command timing presses so they are more coherent with the visual cues. It's so annoying how the press is sometimes during the animation, sometimes when it connects, sometimes when it ends or even 2 seconds later. I want it to be more consistent like in the other Mario RPG games.
Will neosquid survive the mandate
or is that too soulful for nu-nintendo
It's going to be called Mouth and you will like it. All mistakes from the original will be rubbed out.
Anything is possible.
At best maybe some kind of reference to it but its so obscure not likely.
On Japanese X I saw a vid that you can select the old music if you want. I don't speak moonrunes so I don't know if there was an option to change this timed hit bullshit.
I don't think I ever ended up beating this little fuck
Equip the feather on geno and you can get a first strike against him, or work pants and feather on toadstool and then cast sleep on him and he wont run away.
Fuck I gotta play FF5 again, it's really underrated
>they made Bowser and Mallow even more worthless
You can use the SNES soundtrack toggable on the menu.
shame you can't customize it so it's choice of preference, but yeah. OG sounds better.
analyzing the gameplay skits/videos we barely have, it seems the game will make sure to have every enemy have elemental weaknesses. This is probably a way to buff Mallow to be more useful/notable in its meta, along with the Tattle mechanic of psychopath.
Still don't see how Bowser can be buffed though.
It's possible that Bowser's attacks will also be elemental, meaning he can take advantage of a different set of elemental weaknesses.
(On top of just straight up general balance buffing.)
I don't understand this sentiment, for a single-player RPG its such a weird take to have.
What's weird about it?
its so excessively vindictive towards healers in RPGs, I just don't understand why. almost as if RPG's are competitive??? like using a healer means you aren't good enough? its just using the resources you're given.
I hope we can at least toggle the old UI, new one is soulless despite everything else
TRIPLE TECHS JUST LIKE CHRONO TRIGGER
what post game? the hell are you talking about?
smrpg had post game?
No, but the remake does.
oh ok
monster village is technically a post game. jinx, 99 jumps, treasure chests, and culex.
gimme frog coins
So which bosses would have rematches? I hope we can also re battle Valentina, the squid in the sunken ship and the clown brothers from Booster Tower
>Chef Torte finishes baking a new Bundt.
>Jump on it to trigger a rematch.
>Now has the chef involved, buffing and healing the cake as you fight it.
>Ze cake is moving again!
I wonder if star hill will have a boss, supposedly it did and was a larger level in the original but it was cut.
MON DIEU! Vill he also have, ze PAN OF PAIN?
Likely many if not all of the non-Smithy Gang boss characters.
There will probably be smithy gang rematches too, you'll fight upgraded V2 versions of them in the factory. There are already clones of them you fight as normal encounters in the final area in the base game, it would make sense to find optional upgraded versions there too.
An Axem Ranger rematch would be pretty kino
A Boss Rush in the factory would be cool, especially if they are mkII versions with one or two new attacks and different weaknesses.
If they're doing one for Booster when he was originally an optional boss for REALLY sucking at a minigame, I imagine most of them will get rematches.
The only cope I have left is that "maybe the boss rematches will actually be tough"
Considering rematch Booster Loco Express is hitting the damage cap against the entire party, and not one party member like it was in his initial optional battle they probably are going to require a bit more thinking to conquer.
Booster having a 9999 damage party wipe attack does imply they will be at least some fuckery.
>complaining about difficulty in a turn based rpg
the only "challenge" in turn based combat is giving enemies big numbers to force you to grind so you do the same shit you've been doing but with big enough numbers to pass
>having to do the 100 consecutive super jump challenge for the super suit without save states
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Speaking of, I have a feeling they'll make some changes to equipment stats.
I've always wondered, if you manage to do the 100 jumps before encountering that npc, does he automatically give you the super suite?
Yes.
It'll be easier in some ways since they give you better indicators for timed hits now
It'll be easier as there is an audio bit to help you with it
I wonder if they'll keep the timing as fucked up hard. The random fluctuation for every jump after a certain point was just rude.
Bowsers only attack could be a move where he punches Mario in the face and I would STILL use him on my team.
I loved using him with that item that makes you throw Mario as a weapon
Bowser's only attack could be a move where he starts masturbating in Mario's face and I would ALWAYS use him on my team
That sounds more like a recovery move than an attack to me.
how many of these obscure secrets will survive the remake?
Only one that matters is Peach's xxx
NotWarioTM
I love Booster more than Wario
i'd buy an amiibo of booster
it'll never happen though
Here’s your Super Wario RPG bro
Probably had playtesters whining about shit like bundt.
What did he see, Ganker?
Peach's underpants
Just them, floating in the air.
If Luigi and Yoshi were SMRPG playables, what special attacks do you think they'd have?
I'm willing to consider it if I find an artist I think would knock it out of the park.
Im still using Bowser anyway. Besides, the game practically needs the handicap.
>Bowser
>worthless
wasn't the point of mallow in mack's fight that mack's goons had high physical defense but low ass magic defense?
