TLOU 2

The 3 days you play with Abby just offer you great setpiece after another, and Day 2 is surely the highlight for me. The ascent at the beginning, and the descend that accompanies it afterwards easily has the most frightening, disgusting and thrilling parts that can be found in both games, and does the infected horror the best. I also love just how much detail is paid to the locations you visit, the level design and visual detail put into it is great and it does suck most of you are immature and media illiterate so you dunked on it because they killed Joel WAAAAAH. I'm glad they did because I got Abby parts and they're kino, ngl! 🙂

Ellie's three days are thematically more sound, resonate better because of previous connections made and her journey is one tinged with sorrow, grief and self.imposed wounds, I liked them more when talking about the narrative, the thematic reasoning behind it and the somber silence and mood that it has. You also get to be a female Rambo as soon as you get your bow, that weapon is so fricking good, especially with explosive arrows. But in terms of pure adrenaline, Abby's parts really go to great lengths and you realize just how apart their worlds are.

Can't wait to play its NG+ mode, beat it on hard and it was not as easy as I thought it would be considering the first game was a breeze. Hopefully Grounded + isn't that much harder in comparison!

They are, but when playing Abby, you run into a lot of them and I fricking hate them the most. The rest I can handle, but Stalkers are just a pain in the ass for me because they're harder to manage, spot and track as they crawl around and the swarm you.

The only annoying thing about them is the tracking part, but I usally arrowed them or took them out first with a molotov and destroyed the rest of the group, so I never really had much difficulties with them.

TLOU 2 as just 'Abby's Game' is actually pretty good. I dont think the whole duel-protagonist bait and switch worked as good as Naughty Dog hoped it would have which is ironically the same thing that happened to MGS2 and to a lesser extent Halo 2.

gamers want edto play as the heroine not a loose b***h borderline insane character like Abby.

Haven't played Halo 2, replayed MGS 2 last year after playing it the year before for the first time and thought that game pulled it the best for sure. However, the switch works to a degree, but the execution isn't perfect. I liked what they did with the sequel, it took a lot more risks than its predecessor, surprised me in a lot of ways and was a lot more original, too. It's not one of the greatest games ever and certainly didn't deserve all the 9s and 10s, but it's a pretty good game a lot of effort went into and I really enjoyed playing through the entirety of its 20+ hours of run time.

Kill their handler first with the bow, and they stand around confused for a couple of seconds, gives you enough time to kill them

That was actually my least favorite part because I had just upgraded 2 weapons on Ellie and then I don’t get to use them. I was just trying to rush through and get back to playing a game and not a literal movie with zero player interaction or choice. Still a decent tragedy I would say I like tlou2 but the first game was better in every way

      The gameplay wasn't.

it beats out on pacing alone. because part 2 has some of the worst pacing next to most UC4.

          Anonymous

Pacing is narration, not gameplay. 2 has better build up in its setpieces and also features more challenges, variety in encounters and surprises compared to 1.

The gunplay and exploration was better but It wasn’t enough of an upgrade to justify the fart smelling extreme misery porn that tainted the whole game.

The game isn't misery porn, that's a faulty characterization if there ever was one.

            >Pacing is narration, not gameplay
it can also be tied into gameplay. i.e. walk and talk segments that interrupt the action orientated gameplay in the action game. which TLOU2 ramps up excessively much like UC4. to the point where they copied the large open spaces filled with nothing except points of interest like Madagascar in UC4. it's pretty big issue for TLOU2, and it really pads out the experience.

              Anonymous

Not really. You have a lot of encounters that are spaced well because they're balanced by all the places you can explore for either ammo/crafting materials, to find notes expanding the world or chill in search of collectibles while the characters interact with one another and have one of their little moments. I never felt bothered by this game's pacing.

                Anonymous

I'm lying, the ending portion of going through the slavers' camp is fricking annoying and only serves the purpose of Abby getting starved out so Ellie can beat her 1v1 in a handicap match. But the boat scene and the final scene at the house was pretty good and fitting.

                Anonymous

i dont think they're spaced well when my APM and general game interactivity becomes almost lethargic in comparison with the game's combat segments.
                >they're balanced by all the places you can explore for either ammo/crafting materials, to find notes expanding the world or chill in search of collectibles while the characters interact with one another and have one of their little moments.
one thing I notice is that they actually intertwined the exploration and collecting with possible combat segments with infected and survivors in a large open area in Capitol Hill in Day 1 of Seattle.

and they never do that again, the rest of the game is exploring the most obvious sidepath for materials separate from combat situations. that's fricking lame.

                Anonymous

It doesn't get that lame, but you never get the openess of entering Seattle with Ellie and Dina so I understand that complaint. I was actually surprised when I was at a weapon's bench and an enemy patrol creeped up on me and killed me. That was fun.

Story tried way too hard to be shocking and deep.

Don't underestimate the audience, we can tell when you're just a hack relying on cheap tricks.
However the designers for the hotel descent and the hospital made some of the greatest levels I've seen in vidya. If they focused 10x more on those well constructed prolonged infected horror segments, I would do a full playthrough every year.

Last of Us 2 is not deep. Barely anyone replays the game to reflect on its storytelling or execution of themes. All it has is its opening shock segment and the protag twist. Sorry if the truth upsets you.

There's no hope for mankind surviving. The damage is done, society has collapsed. All that's left is a bunch of tribes at war with one another.

I just wish their stories were a bit more intertwined, like finding Ellie as Abby and watching her fricking kill everyone, maybe have a quick fight on day 2 and getting separated for some reason, the whole of Abbys 3 days the closest we get of her acknowledging Ellies presence in the city is when she fights Tommy and even then she brushes it off inmediately

VERY much, shotguns and rifles are pretty much almost insta-kill, the enemies have practically aim-bot, are a lot more aggresive and they can see you from fricking miles away without you even noticing (the sound which alerts you when you are being seen dissapears in this mode), Clickers are a lot more perceptive and faster, and resources are scarce as frick, etc
