They were pissed Zenimax is costing so much money and taking decades to finish games that everyone hates. The Board probably asked when the next fallout game was and they probably said 10 years away. Wouldn't you clean house?

It's funny, halo used to be their flagship franchise, and then 343 ran it into the ground, and now they were hoping bethesda games would be their big thing, and the first one of those released was extremely poorly received.
And like you said, the fallout show is very successful, but because of the way bethesda planned a new fallout game isn't coming out for ages. Just a massive fail across the board.

should have had a respectable good track history studio working on a spin off to have dropped the month after the show launched.

Exactly, 10 years and all we have gotten is 76 and starfield both lazily made games. Starfield has like 5 small ass cities and planets have like 4 different types of bases on them across 1000s of planets. It honestly felt like it was made in under 3. A group of modders could/have done more in shorter time spans.

Starfield seems like the vast majority of the work went into asset creation, similar to other high budget games released in the last decade. The actual game play is extremely basic, and there's no real level design to sweat over balancing, so it's mostly just about churning out tons of visual assets, including models and animations, for all the key story parts.

            Anonymous

That's the case for all Bethesda games, the amount of content (items, places, quests, characters, etc) take up the vast majority of dev time, not gameplay systems

              Anonymous

It's not just Bethesda, feels like it's the norm for AAA games, especially open world games. They probably finish developing the basic combat systems in a month and then spend years building assets. Cyberpunk 2077's combat feels so run of the mill and tied to extremely basic perks that have been reworked twice since the game released, but Night city is filled with a staggering amount of assets that is clearly what they spent years doing.

Starfield isn't that buggy. Not by Bethesda standards anyway. And it ran pretty well, load times especially were the fastest they've ever managed at release. The problems with that game is the design, not technical issues.

I have a theory that they wanted to make it seamless, and worked a lot on improving load times until they were capable of that, but just couldn't quite make it work and they had to split everything up behind loading screens.

Barely, they literally only exist because the CE armor in the shop saved their asses, they actually said that in a stream, and the game is being handled by a skeleton crew, i unironically think it will be another 3 years before another Halo

        >i unironically think it will be another 3 years before another Halo
See this is what I mean. They're allowed to keep making Halo. Why? Why hasn't Microsoft taken the IP away from them?

Whether we like it or not Halo 4 and 5 sold well despite the horrible reviews, and it's clear that Infinite's shop is making a ton of money (i refuse to believe that even half of players with shop armor use MS rewards), it's genuine hell being a Halo fan

we like it or not Halo 4 and 5 sold well despite the horrible reviews
Didn't their online populations die off quickly though? That was always what made Halo have such a lasting impact. The multiplayer. It was clearly the only part of Halo's success that Microsoft cared about, hence why they were eager to shift Halo players into a true live service model game.

              >Didn't their online populations die off quickly though?
Don't want to sound like a jackass, but that doesn't negate the fact that they sold "well" (at least that's what they said back in the day), it just means that the people that bought them got tired of them and moved on

                Anonymous

Selling well is good for games that are mainly single player, but games that prominently feature online multiplayer, especially with microtransactions, are determined to be successful by their multiplayer numbers.

After Skyrim, microsofty did whathever they could to sabotage his work to devaluate it so they could buy it resulting in fallout 76 and fallout 4. Once they bought it at the cheapest possible price they put him to work for Starvefield and Todd did that shit of a game to ruin Bethesda, now Microsofty's property.

Obsidian has made 2-3 games under Microsoft and is releasing like another 2 within the next 2 years. Tango made and released one game that was critically acclaimed but a financial failure due to Microsoft's own decision.

I'm under the impression that Microsoft is just wealthy, incredibly stupid, and refuses to take blame for anything they do wrong.
