these sort of popularity contests are pointless unless all the judges have properly experienced each of the titles in question.
and even then there is a lot of biases to consider.
recency bias for example.
Take both Star Wars Jedi titles out of that list and it's pretty decent.
What's wrong with Fallen Order? It's a pretty decent Soul Reaver like in my opinion. Animations were kinda ass but the level design was nice and despite looking stupid the combat was alright.
honestly shit list because none of these games are about space. space is a setting to their narratives, space is also an easy setting to gamify. death stranding has more relevance to being a space game than anything on that list. death stranding has you doing inventory management and managing that over long distances - actually dealing with the logistics of space and covering distance. no game on this list actually deals with the difficulties of space or traveling through it.
>Starfield is on that list
I guess Microsoft finally decided to pay IGN for some positive press. Also there are only 2 ''space games'' on that list and both of them are garbage.
Stupid list but at least Starfield is already in it. Which it should.
>actual space game
You don't know what "space game" means, because it doesn't mean anything. That's like saying "medieval game" Is it a RPG ? a RTS ? a space sim ? a survival/crafting game ?
a game with space exploration. where you can control a ship and freely fly in any direction. typically with planets and star systems you have the freedom to go to and explore. a game taking place on alien worlds or involving space ships isn't a space game, it's just a sci-fi game. if it's a linear, hand-crafted campaign experience where the space travel is just cutscenes or glorified cutscenes then it's not a space game.
>>no Half Life 1
Is Half-Life 1 really a space game when you spent 90% of the time fighting on Earth?
I can understand if it's an alien game, but a space game? Nah
>best space games >doesn't even mention the only one with somewhat realistic orbital mechanics
even space invaders is a better space game than these romance visual novels by that metric
dropped me2 during the 'go to these 3-4 locations and gather your allies :)' segment because i'd seen that shit in dragon age already and dropped that game over it too
>Mass Effect 1 and 2
Good games but I wouldn't put ME2 as my number 1 space game of all time >Mass Effect 3
Fuck no it's worse than 2 in every way and worse than ME1 in every way except combat gameplay which was wonky in 1
It's such a big downgrade I wouldn't put it anywhere near a top 10 list
>SW: KOTOR 1&2
Overrated in my opinion but still solid choices for a top ten list >SW Jedi: Survivor & Fallen Order
They're just about average I don't dislike them but I wouldn't count em among the best >SW: Battlefront 2
Good choice to represent Star Wars
BUT what I find odd is that these 5 games are chosen to be in a top 10 space games list which makes Star Wars look really overrepresented while also having only 2 genres among their games. The list would have been more interesting if it included a Jedi Knight game, a Rogue Squadron game or TIE fighter. I'd rank those games above Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel
>Starfield
Mediocre even by Bethesda standards it's the blandest and least inspiring space game I've ever seen. It doesn't offer anything people hope for from a space sim but it also fails at being a typical Bethesda game when it comes to their usual strong points like exploration and having a core gameplay loop around fighting, looting and questing
>No Man's Sky
It's pretty shit even after its redemption arc but I now retroactively like it more because at least it's a more inspired work than Starfield
Honestly pretty bad choices with even the better ones being only low ranking contenders in a real space game top list. The list is also missing a lot of essentials like Elite: Dangerous, EVE, Freelancer, Homeworld, any of the good 40K games, the X series, Wing Commander and so on
>Top 10 space games according to someone who's only played 12 of them and they've all been basically the exact same action/RPG slop where you walk around on planets
X3TC? Everspace? EVE Online? Nexus: TJI? Freelancer? Homeworld? Elite Dangerous?
If walking around and shooting stuff on astral bodies constitutes a space game put fucking Unreal Tournament on there.
Take both Star Wars Jedi titles out of that list and it's pretty decent.
those Star Wars Jedi games are great. they really are Star Wars Souls and Sekiro and they're a lotta fun.
every time I see someone play one of those games it's 2 hours of lightsabers ineffectively slashing against big toads

>Starfield
>Jedi
No
Move Battlefront II and No Man's sky up, and add Endless Space 2, Mario Galaxy 1, and Star Fox 64.
The fact Starfield is even on the list at all is pretty blatant that who ever made this list either had massive bias or was paid off by Bethesda.
What's wrong with Fallen Order? It's a pretty decent Soul Reaver like in my opinion. Animations were kinda ass but the level design was nice and despite looking stupid the combat was alright.

I bet you also liked god of s0i
No, seriously, I wanna know what's wrong with it. Please try to properly explain yourself instead of going "it's goyslop" or "fuck movie games".

No Man's Sky is the only actual space game on that list.

>no space sims
Stupid list but at least Starfield is already in it. Which it should.

>No Freelancer
>No ELITE
>No Star Wars (NES)
What a joke
where
someone make an actual space exploration list please
unironically looks correct to me
>space games
>no 4X games that let you make your own space empire
>no space survival/crafting/engineering games
triple A bias is real
>No TIE Fighter
>No Starcraft
Trash list.

>no metroid
>no shadows of the empire
Shit list
No Freespace, Star/Freelancer. Disappointing but not surprising.
I will never understand the love for ME2. It’s literally an “I’m assembling a team…” simulator without the thing you’re building the team for.
ME1 is so obviously the best entry in that series.
>no 4x
>no Kerbal
normalgayry/10
at least they got the best mass effect right
Homeworld needs to be on any list like this most of these dont even have gameplay in space
>no homeworld
>no eve
>no rogue squadron or x wing
>no deadspace (2008)
>no putt-putt goes to the moon
Pathetic.
