are standards for wRPGs really that much lower?
in ffxv if you tap attack instead of holding the button you preform different moves some anon linked a video talking about it in a previous thread
>hold O
do people really use type a controls? I use type b, having attack on square makes way more sense
I had attack on R2 when I played XV because Holding O made my thumb hurt after a while.
>in ffxv if you tap attack instead of holding the button you preform different moves
none of which were needed, not to mention the tutorial tells you to Hold O for attacking
the best magic in torment are the buffs though
>cloudkill
mc should always be a fighter, he can pretty easily get 25 str and wrecks everything, esp with grandmastery in axes
>mc should always be a fighter
>PS:T
Low IQ
You are the low IQ, putting a few of your starting stat points into str makes the game a joke and you can easily get enough wis/int for all the dialogues you want.
Grandmastery+25 str wrecks the game and only costs like 9 stat points... its a no brainer.
Game is already a joke without needing additional STR
removing 20-30 minutes of tedium over the course of an entire playthrough is worth a lot
also it makes tno feel like a badass instead of a wuss that relies entirely on his gith manservant
Combat is the main draw of wrpgs, wrpgs are actually about the role playing because they're actually rpgs
People praise Torment for the reactivity in terms of player choices, not the godawful combat.
Much like people praise FF for the graphics and not the godawful gameplay that has been a constant throughout the entire series, the bar isn't lower, it's just measuring different things.
>reactivity of choices
>only choice that matters in the story is whether trias lives or dies which has no bearing on anything else
Does FFXV have anything as challenging as that sewer dungeon in PS:T?
That's a problem with the industry, not that specific game.
Neither game has anything challenging, the health mechanics forbid it. I think XV had one optional cave thing that prohibited items
>I think XV had one optional cave thing that prohibited items
That's all I was asking.
>I've never heard of that game on the bottom
>the bar isn't lower, it's just measuring different things.
Choices/reactivity is what rpgs do well, so that's why PS:T is more esteemed than FFXV, other genres have better graphics than the latter.
I dunno I've never heard of that game on the bottom but FFXV was especially soul crushing because it was like the 3rd strike or final nail in the coffin for the biggest JRPG series on earth. It was basically the confirmation that it was just over for FF.
>comparing Ps:T to some gay, generic jrpg
absolute state of this board. next time go complain that Ps:T doesn't have e-girls.
>Ps:T doesn't have e-girls
Literally unplayable 0/10
You are a jarpig moron who should be shot, but you are right that cRPGs have incredibly low standards. Only a handful of them are any good what so ever
PS:T is a 3/10 video game but a 7/10 cRPG because the products which its being compared to are also shit.
The only good cRPGs (8/10 and more) are Fallout 1, Baldur's Gate 1 and maybe 2, Pillars of Eternity 1 (haven't played the 2) and some modules for NWN
The rest are just far too flawed to be called good video games which is why the standard is so low.
We are just so used to eating shit in the cRPG industry that we actually consider stuff like PS:T to be good. It is sad indeed. Still better than ANYTHING ever released in japan in history of mankind, tho.
I might've forgotten some games here, it also depends on what you consider to be a cRPG but my point still stands
The standard is low, for sure. Jarpig is right in that regard. A game with build complexity of Pathfinder, adventure of Baldur's Gate, encounter design of ToEE, writing and reactivity of Arcanum would actually be a proper fricking video game. Something to show for. But we are nowhere near that and as you know, beggars can't be choosers.
