Not him, but if the firings are way more likely to be meritocratic just because the company has to earn money to survive. And if they aren't, the whole thing will fall apart. It's a win-win scenario for the players, really.

that's a very good question, continuing the food analogy, there are no good chefs, because good chefs are working as alchemists, potion makers, and the like (or coding in better paying companies which are not making vidya, but other software for other companies, if we get out of the food analogy)

A more accurate analogy: I haven't visited the restaurant in over a decade because investors told them to stop serving meat and now they only serve insect-based foods. I gradually forgot that the restaurant even exists but today as I was walking down the street I saw it was on fire, and all I thought to myself was "good riddance".

Nah, we still have until 2030. That is when the globalists want to reset the global economy. Implement shit like digital cash and surveillance states. You can see it happening in very liberal areas already. Every street corner has cameras. I don't doubt that they have similar tech to china's face recognition system and documenting movements. Idiot. The appeal of working out of Tier 1 cities is access to premiere employee talent. Your odds of attracting people to grow your company decrease dramatically when you move to some shitty flyover state.
Also when crunch time rolls around, the ability for an employee to get their favorite pho or shawarma delivered at 1am can be the motivational boost that pulls a project across the finish line. Again, impossible to do in nowheresville.

Talent will always coalesce in the most desirable spots. This was true before capitalism, where cities like Vienna or Paris were the places to be.
America is too big to make everywhere desirable. It won't work. You're better off accepting that most of the country will always be six-lane roads lined with fast food chains and beer stores. That's our equivalent of pre-industrial farming towns where nothing happened.
If you want to be someone and make something out of your life, you need to live in the select few spots to do that. It's easy to sit back and hate on San Francisco, but if you're not there, chances are you'll cap out your career at 1/10th of what you could be making over there.
So enjoy never booking the best restaurants, touring Europe or Asia, flying first class, or driving anything better than a 2006 Civic. Some of us have something to prove though.
