The games are on sale basicly everywhere. Are they worth getting now after all those patches and campaign releases?

you only need the 3rd game now, you don't need W1/2 for Immortal Empires anymore.
they also made it easier to buy the specific DLC you want, and you can just pirate the dlc if you own the base game.

They were probably hoping that TWWH3's release would be good enough to get people to buy the older games just to play immortal empires, instead the campaign for 3 was dog shit which meant anyone starting in 3 was less interested in getting the older games and their DLC. Doesn't help that we are a year in and have only gotten a single DLC so far, even if Chaos Dwarves are supposed to come in April

Once again the dlc team has to fix the main game team's mess just like they did with WH2. Insane that the RoC is such a mess considering how many years this game was in development and now the dlc is coming at glacial pace. Embarrassing.

This is going way back to like 2015, but the initial pitch for WH1 was that it was always intended to be a trilogy right from the very beginning (in fact there was a datamined roster listing factions like Chorfs and Ogres even in WH1), and the whole point was that by the time the third game came out all three games could be combined into a mega campaign as a bonus. Back then CA probably assumed the individual game campaigns were going to be what people played the most of, and the combined map would be more of a hardcore fans only thing that only people who had already played the first and second games would be interested in. Obviously with WH2 we saw ME was immensely more popular than Vortex and that warped the direction of development and then eventually we were left with it being the core feature of WH3 to the point people considered the game to be in early access when we only had RoC. It definitely should've been free back in August to try and regain some goodwill, but who knows if we would have gotten it at all if that youtuber hadn't kicked up a stink about it and got people spamming CA about it.

Game 3 is worth it now that Immortal Empires doesn't rely on Game 1 & 2, and the game goes on sale often enough that getting the other games/dlc cheap won't be that difficult if you find it fund and want more.

I'm just saying from a marketing perspective, if someone clicked on the steam banner for a game on sale, and goes to that game's store page, and sees a large dlc/update coming, it might give that tiny push to buy while the game is on sale, especially when that game had an infamously rough launch and such a buyer might have been waiting for the game to be improved. The exact contents of such a dlc or update are irrelevant.

They're a lot different than the older TW games but fun in their own way. If you like fantasy you will love Warhammer games. The only sort of hate these games get are from traditional total war players who want realistic and historical settings.

The thing to remember about the Warhammer total war games is that races play extremely different from each other. Some races are boring to play while others are fun. My favorite are generally Skaven and Bretonnia. They both have trash cannonfodder infantry but have units that specialize in a niche that makes them fun. For Skaven it's their long wunderwaffe tech and snipers, for Bretonnia it's their Cavalry that steamrolls almost anything.

I haven't found a game yet where managing a large empire is actually interesting. It's either a boring waste of time where you become so powerful that all challenge gets removed and you just pick up provinces one by one at snail pace for next to no reward or you have to micromanage a lot of shit because hardcaps start to frick you over. I usually just give myself a main goal and once i have reached that i stop playing.

CK2 and CK3 are about the only games where it's interesting throughout. You'll never really get to the steamrolling phase because your vassals will frick you from inside. You don't have to micromanage if you delegate shit to your vassals.

The Crusader Kings games are special in the way that you have no actual endgame.
Your character dies at some point and you start a new one set in the same world and often enough things go out of your control and you have to adapt to the new situation. Unlike most strategy games you never feel in charge - You are just a small cog inside a big machine.

Atleast if you play the game like a normal person. If you are a memer or want to break the game its actually very easy to do. You can easily take over the entire world as an immortal horse because paradox are masters when it comes to creating amazing premises only to shit the bed completely.

The cyclical building system artificially slows him down without really being fun. You can still doomstack just like any other faction. It's just more annoying.
Plagues are lame. Most of them have bad effects you'll never use and they don't stack up to the other monogod's crazy strong and fun mechanics.
His roster is bizarrely underwhelming when you consider how small it is. I think the last patch might have made great unclean ones better but I dunno. Plague drones could use a buff and beasts of nurgle being one of your only real anti large tools is rough. Depressingly enough the boring reskins that champions of chaos added are probably some of his best units atm. Especially exalted heroes.

        Anonymous

        >I think the last patch might have made great unclean ones better but I dunno.

It wasn't 'last patch', I think it was like 1.2 or something, before IE even came out, but GUOs are arguably the strongest unit in the game now because through the tech tree they get two free casts of all the Lore of Nurgle spells. Two free Blight Boils (each of which can instantly delete a unit) per GUO is REALLY fricking dumb, two free Fleshy Abundances on a chunky SEM is almost as dumb, and there's still four more spells to go after that.

Tomb Kings are strong (and fairly unique recruitment-wise (at least in the base game, if you're playing SFO every faction sort of behaves like TKs)) but because they rely heavily on chariots and monsters they require a fair bit of micro to perform. If you play on Very Hard instead of Legendary you can just pause the game to issue commands though and bypass a lot of the difficulty in using them.

      Anonymous

Their economy is pretty shit initially and they take a while to get rolling, both to get get your economy going, a few more lords and to build the buildings required to be able to recruit shit that isn't dogshit (but free) chaff. Pretty balanced like the other anon said and can be fun to play, especially if you dig their aesthetic.

I've completed campaigns as all of the pre-TW3 factions—maybe half of them on legendary—except for skaven (and greenskins). I can't stand those rat fricks. Spam sacking to level your lords doesn't work very well anymore, since in 3 experience is based on the size of the fight rather than the victory type. You're way better off just going out and playing the game normally.
Skelly spam meta has been replaced by a meta where you literally just throw your units in to die in droves because of how moronicly strong the raise dead mechanic is in 3, where high vampire corruption is enough to eventually get you many instantly replaceable high tier units.

          Anonymous

Plus, Dead Rise Again is ridiculously overtuned in 3. You basically have to beat every vampire stack twice in a row because if there's more than 0 vampiric corruption in a province they get EVERYTHING back at full health. If it weren't being controlled by a dumb AI that fell for ambushes and got caught inside settlements, it would be literally invincible - all it would have to do is stay close enough that you can reach it without being in range of the second attack. I can believe the Ghorst regen cap thing at launch was because of a bug, but given that Dead Rise Again has stayed this way for seven months now I have to assume it's working as intended. Counts are in my top three most hated factions to fight now. (Skaven and WoC are still slightly above them)

High Elves. Use either Tyrion or Alarielle, Eltharion works too if you're okay spending a few turns getting him back to Ulthuan.

High Elves. Best lord I think is actually Alith Anar. Solely because in addition to High Elves being powerful to begin with, his faction also acts like Skaven/Beastmen in that they can travel in the underway/nether and have a chance to trigger ambushes in normal walking stance.

At the start of the campaign you can choose between playing with each player taking their turn after one aother, or with simultaneous turns. Regardless of what you choose, whenever a player enters the battle screen, everyone else is forced to stop everything they were doing and gets taken to the battle screen as well, each giving their vote as to whether the battle should be fought manually or automatically, along with the option to spectate, take control of any involved AI faction, or join the battle along the player who engaged it as in they get to give you control over any units of their choice.

Multiplayer with stratagy games is always messy because skill levels make a much bigger difference here.
This isn't just one guy being able to shoot better than the other. A good strategy player is aware of all mechanics and plays accordingly while someone more casual or new to the game might simply lack the know how or might even refuse to play in a different way, Back in the days i tried playing AoE II with my buddies and it always ended up being a shitshow cause one guy insisted of treating the game like city builder while others spammed walls mindlessly or simply forgot to research anything. Warhammer has the same issue and the same goes for Paradox mappainters. The games can be really fun but only if everyone is on the same level - otherwise its just frustrating.

I feel like it worked will in CIV4 which is the only CIV games where I tried it.

We did forced 2v4 games or 3-4 player ones and it never really was much of an issue

CIV games kinda work as the progression is fairly straightforward. You can make some pretty dumb decisions but its not like you run into a lot of players who just stagnate.

The problem is the friend here

How do multiplayer campaigns even work?
Feels like it would be a clusterfrick

It's pretty good I'd say, you both play during the same turn and the AI plays when you both clicked End Turn.
When someone starts a battle the other has the option to spectate, help the player or play as the opposing army. If he helps, the player can choose units to give him/take back and they share the army.

    >Free weekend this early
    >On sale this early
You know it's shit. CA is too greedy to offer this kind of deal unless the game is a dumpster fire.

It's a strangely successful dumpster fire though. I am honestly shocked so many people still play it. I'm sure CA disagrees with my standard of "successful" but frick them, they should be honored that even a single person is willing to put up with their abortion on any given day.

Because it's so close to being a perfect globe-spanning sandbox of WH Fantasy that nobody wants this shit to be killed. They're keeping it alive despite all the flaws so we can get Chorfs and one day DoW, Ind, Khuresh etc. At least, that's how I feel about it

I am sure Warhammer 3 is performing somewhat below expectations for them. Otherwise they wouldn't have bent the knee to the playerbase and make IE accessable to all Warhammer III owners by default.

Many players are still sticking to Warhammer 2 and waiting for them to patch Warhammer 3 into a more complete state.

What exactly is missing? I started playing a month ago and everything's been great.

        >Many players
Contrarian copium, 3 has a higher peak and more co-current players (even before the free weekend) than 2. Which is frankly amazing as you normally see player attrition over the course of a series.

so 3 is better than 2 now?

In my opinion the frustration of the bugs and AI outweighs the positives of the new game at the moment. WH2 was far from perfect itself, but holy shit there are moments in 3 that can really piss you off. The last patch broke far more things than it fixed, and there are a lot of things that have yet to be addressed at all.

The major thing holding 3 back is the AI. At times it feels even dumber than it did in 2.

Is there a mod for increased or unlimited winds of magic that is compatible with SFO? Preferably just increased.
