Simple as
You gotta take care of that cardboard more.
>Left 4 Dead
>game is about 4 people left for dead
DUDE
Who's Dead? Why were they left for him?
where do these devs come up with all this 4d chess stuff man...
Who actually didn't see this coming?
Me, actually.
Me because Ganker spoiled me.
Me. I didn't C this coming. The event at Garrelia really provided a really good alibi for him.
The name was actually botched by Xseed. The actual name is "Sen no KIseki", which directly translated would be something closer to "Trails in the Flash" or "Trails of Flashing Light" which is a reference to the way that light reflects off a sword.
Xsneed, being the talentless hacks they are and we now realize always were, put the emphasis on the concept of the sword itself, but as we get farther into the series we learn about Rean's swordsmanship style, the 7th form of the Eight Leaves One Blade Style known as "Void" or "The Light that Illuminates the Void", and as prophesized by Rean's swordsmanship instructer Master Ka-Fai, Rean himself eventually becomes "the flash that illuminates" the world in its darkest hour.
Thus the name "Sen no Kiseki" is a direct reference to Rean himself, making the title "Trails of the Flash" a direct reference to Rean's journey to become the light that illuminates the darkness.
Trails of the Flash is also a direct contrast to the next sub-series "Kuro no Kiseki" or "Trails of Black/Trails of Darkness".
So you see, the point is that Xseed is completely incompetent and should never be allowed to touch a video game again.
>Trails in the Flash
Sounds awful.
I don't care. It's not my job to come up with localized titles. I'm just saying it like it is. They horribly botched the name of the game, robbed all meaning from it. and made it make no sense. They're bad at their jobs and shouldn't be allowed near a video game ever again.
Cold Steel is a good job. Matches Trails in the Sky.
A literal translation is "Light of Miracle" right? That's even worse.
It's not a good job. They explained the name and concept of light reflecting off a sword when they announced the sub-series originally. They just interpreted in a way that emphasized the wrong part of it completely.
Trails of ______ Steel is fine.
Pick any word. Forged, Radiant.
Trails of Radiant Steel is probably your best title, but localizers probably looked at 'Sky' in the Liberl trilogy and made a cross "pun" on the mode of transport.
Cold steel refers to blades.
Yes but they probably did think Train in parallel to Skyship from Sky right? Isn't the first thing you see in the opening a train?
That's probably the joke in both regions, as Sen means both a sudden flash and "to carry/wield," like a blade in a warriors hand or freight on a train.
But the point is the primary meaning in all regions is the glint of metal as it cuts through the air, metaphorically symbolizing the spark of war and metal over man. There's plenty to criticize CS on, but the title is find.
It's not fine.
If you were in charge of it, we would have gotten >HERO STORY: MIRACLE OF SWORD FLASH IN THE GLINT
>made by Farucom
The Miracle of Cold Steel would be a pretty good title tbh.
Something like Radiant Steel misses the tone of the first two games. Cold Steel fits it better.
No, it really doesn't. Stop pushing that meme title.
It doesn't translate into speakable English.
You're the kind of person who thinks Ace Attorney should have been called Turnabout Courtroom.
The phrase "Cold Steel" has a different connotation and completely changes the tone of the title. Its supposed to be something bright and brilliant. Its a bad title because it doesn't invoke the intended meaning.
Anon, do you know what cold steel does?
Especially when it's moving fast and is leaving a trail?
I'll give you a guess.
The JP title is "Light (Implication: Metal)". The EN title is "Metal (Implication: Light)". The meaning has not changed, just the presentation based on the language.
cold steel just has the connotation of mall ninja katanas

Coldsteel.com
that's crs. cold steel is the table of crap next to the beef jerky at the gun show.
The series should be Miracle instead of Trails, yes. The titles focus on the miracle connotation far more than the forged path connotation.
The trails of cold steel would be the flash as the blade is drawn. IE, literally the thing the title is talking about. You're so focused on a 1:1 replacement for the word that you ignored the context.
as usual, 1:1 gays miss the forest for the trees
American localizers fricking something up? Unheard of!
I agree that translation is beyond awful but in this case the title is not wrong.
You guys need to pay attention to the Kanjis.
Kiseki can mean more than one thing.
Kondo himself admitted "Trails of Cold Steel" was good if not better name than "Sen no Kiseki"
>trails in the sky 1
>you mostly walk
>trails in the sky 3
>no sky
>Trails in the Park
This Steam dude put it well.
>The theme of the Erebonian arc is not mech warfare. It runs far deeper than that. The mech warfare that you do see or participate in is only the surface of a much deeper theme, something that you, as someone who is supposed to be playing through CS3, should be well aware of. For that matter, Cold Steel arguably captures the deeper theme in a far more relevant way since it can cover so many of the different symbols that permeate the game. The railways, the tanks, the organizations and people that incorporate steel into their names and titles. And then the Steel itself in CS3/4.
Is VALIMAR a spoiler?
Train that move on rails?!
Damn I want to play
