LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO
ONE OF THE MOST CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED JRPGs IS FINALLY COMING OUT OFFICIALLY IN THE WEST
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1668520/The_Legend_of_Heroes_Trails_to_Azure/
SO FUCKING HYPED LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
LITERALLY WAITED A DECADE FOR THIS LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO ITS FUCKING COMING LADS
Just finished replaying the geofront release of the game, but I'm still picking this up and starting it so I can recommend kino on the steam reviews.
This. Also getting it. Need to wash away the atrocities that are CS3 and 4.
Why yes I'm also excited OP
>one of the most critically acclaimed JRPGs
>the final twist is literally "god rewrote reality so the main character wins because he didn't become best friends with 2 people before"
Lol.
kea isnt god and that was literally set up in the prologue of zero
>plot twist was so good they recycled it for two other games
>two
Bro.. You don't want to know about Kuro 2.
Time rewinds in Kuro 2 weren't a plot twist it was an advertised game mechanic. But yeah the characters literally know they can rewind time in that game and the stakes have never been lower. Also like half the game is just fighting your mind controlled teammates and then undoing the whole chapter with a rewind.
Pretty much
Wow. Great game. Bet Falcom wish they could rewind and not make Kuro at all. Or start over again with the same budget.
My favorite moment is the one where Shizuna finds a bomb and doesn't tell anyone just so she can try dying to a bomb once, knowing it'll just get rewound.
>series criticized for having no stakes and no consequences
>makes game where they fuck around and just rewind time
kek can't make this shit up.
In most cases, it's "bad guy just wipes the party out without even a battle"... But in Chapter 2 there's a part where the party literally dies like 3 times before they get a fight right.
Sorry, Chapter 1
>no stakes
Um sweaty, Loewe and that mayor from Cold Steel died you now?
Falcom and their mind control / brainwashing thing as plot. It happened in Liberl, Crossbell, Erebonia, and now Calvard. Boring.
>Kuro 2 weren't a plot twist
Yeah the first one happens like three minutes into the game.
Oh, so this is addressed in the next game?
Thank fucking god that inconsistency bothered me to no end in Zero. Starting in media res but still avoiding "spoilers" seemed like incredibly lazy writing.
i love zero and ive replayed it like 5 times but ive only played azure once
It's one of the most poorly written games in the whole series lol. You are hit with a bunch of retarded twists at the end.
I miss when I was playing this series and was in the trio of SC -> Third -> Zero. Those were fucking peak. It was all downhill afterwards
its only the final dungeon that sucks the rest of the game is good
Garbage taste.
It's been out for years bro
Very good game, I've heard some people had issues with the ending, and I personally had some issue with the extended ending sequence, but this game like the other Trails arc ending games is awesome and hype story telling.
Also, any news on Nayuta english release?
>Class IV
I feel like I should know about this series but just like Neptunia, that ship has sailed six or seven years ago and all I can do is stare at a distance as more games come out and I become more and more estranged to it.
I know so little about it that for a time I thought it was some Tales knock-off based on the Trails naming convention alone.
It's a waste of time so count yourself lucky.
>that ship has sailed six or seven years ago
this, but also for senran kagura
This, but also for Disgaea and the weird spinoff on the PSP.
Play Sky 1 - 3, Zero and Azure, then drop the series. Literally don't have to touch the other games. They're shit.
Play CS for Altina.
Here's the thing. The first Trails in the Sky is a generic 2000s shounen anime game that got good until the very last chapter and ended with a great plot-twist. People could easily dismiss the anime part since this game didn't came out worldwide until 2011 (seven years after the original release), everyone was hooked up with the plot twist, battle system, characters, npc having unique dialogue and the worldbuilding/lore. There was big hype for the sequel, Sky SC. People were saying it was the best game of all the time and what not. Then, after a big drama around the localization, it was finally released after four years and turns out the sequel didn't got good until Chapter 6 (around 40 hours in), everything before was pure and unadultered filler where you basically had to revist every place from the orginal game, and after that you had another filler chapter. Despite that, everything else made up for all that filler.
The third game was mostly lore dripping and setup for the following games. The next two games never were released worldwide until a fan translation (also with a lot of drama around it) from few years ago, but at least the split made sense this time, the first game was good and the sequel also had filler but not as the same level as Sky SC. Which brings us to the clusterfuck that the Cold Steel series was. Five fucking games, two ended up in cliffhangers and the respective sequels were nothing but the most loathsome 100 hours of pointless filler and fanservice in the history of rpgs.
tl;dr: only the first five games are good, the series has dramatically declined in quality and fans still keep up with because they want to see how the series ends after almost twenty years
Which Trails of game should I do first? Never played in my life.
The latest one obviously
None. Go play a good game anon.
cold steel. the old games are meh.
hope my favorite track comes back
You get this instead.
great track though
oh fuck, can't wait to hear this in game. and Randy has a gun now?
He gets an S-Craft with the rifle later.
Fuck that's so cool, Randy is one of the coolest characters in the series. Let's fucking go.
Ys is the superior franchise.
Call me when X is out.
Why is there always a seething ysfag every time theres a Trails thread lol.
Because there's always a seething Trailsfag in Ys threads.
Fair's fair.
Wouldn't know cause I don't give a shit about ys and dont read their threads.
tfw halfway through trails ao and want to play azure but don't want to play through cold steel that bad since I hate the protag
then skip CS, who cares
Well, I do, I like the world and characters, and I'd like to play CS lol. I'll just probably put it off a while.
is wazy a boy or a girl?
yes
A dude, retard.
Ah yes, the Trails game where it all started going to shit. And you gays are gonna pay 50$ for a port translated by a chudlover who killed himself with water "enhancers"
Yes gigahchad.jpg
Funny how you act like you hate the games but you know every obscure bit of drama and niche meme about them. You should be more honest with yourself.
He's a /fg/ schizo
He might be a schizo but the translations of both NISA and Geofront are rancid, putrid dogshit.
>you can't say they're shit without playing them !!
>y-you played them ? w-well why did you play them if you don't like it lol
You're the one who's mentally ill for liking this pile of shit.
>muh boogeyman
Never went there.
But I'll happily shit on it in every single Ganker thread I come across about a Trails game starting from Ao since they're garbage except cs1.
Ok schizo and you will still buy the next game and play it to 100%
>translated by
who cares
Cold Steel was Falcom deciding they weren't attracting any new fans anymore, so they were going to drag the sunk cost lorefags through the rusty nails aka multiple games designed intentionally to just be filler.
They didn't even stay true to the idea they'd let Rean choose his waifu, since instead Rean becomes the harem king and everyone is his waifu. Even the men. Ha ha...
*not Lavi, she hates it.
and it work. It saved the series
cope, seethe. Rean won
>Saved anything
>Dumbed the series down so hard and kept Falcom from capping off and actually making anything else that might have been good
Hopefully Kuro's under performance will finally be the pin this night mare needs to end already.
I still have to finish Zero.
Based based! Thankyuu anon, I'm going to grab it here https://store.epicgames.com/xx/p/the-legend-of-heroes-trails-to-azure
>epic
Kys retard
Calm your tits gabe.
Is this going to be another thread full of retards saying how much they hate this series and that it suck while having played the whole franchise.
I love me some self-hating ironic weebs tards!
That's pretty mighty hard projection
Every trails thread on Ganker is literally people crying about how much the games suck and yet these morons know every little thing about the franchise and community and random translators.
Pure fucking mental illness
They already have a discord and a general where they have been doing this all day for years, non stop. But they still feel the need to go to other sites and other boards and argue with themselves about the same shit over and over. There was a trails thread yesterday that looks like it was copypasted by a bot word for word. It's like it's some kind of weird ritual they have to do on a regular basis.
>There are people who still haven't played Ao
lol
lmao, even
Fucking spoilers
I sincerely hope they will not "adapt for modern audience" mariabell final dress. That was so hot and im still mad she don't have it in steel 4.
>implying NISA are doing any work that couldn't be done in notepad
It looks stupid as fuck and it's not like she doesn't show boobs in cold steel.
Its censored cause everybody still have their costumes untouched and only her has it changed. I don't care how much boobs one shows, I just don't like censored stuff. Also she doesn't show shit on steel.
I'm still waiting for the fucking Vita geofront translation release as it features a few stuff and I've played all games on the Vita, but they take so much their time, it's bullshit.
Todd MacLaine
cursed
I'm only getting into this series when i have some sort of chronological order to play it in so i can follow it.
The games are released in chronological order except for Ao and CS1 taking place around the same time
I'd suggest Crossbell first
I meant Sky and then Crossbell oops
Correct order involves you swapping between several games after certain chapters. Here's the correct way to play:
Trails in the Sky 1 through 3. (First two games take place over a year, there's a six month timeskip before 3 begins, and a one year timeskip after 3 before the next arc where things get fucky)
Start by playing Zero, complete the game up until the end of chapter 2. When it asks you if you want to save before starting chapter 3, close the game and start up Cold Steel 1.
Play only the "prologue" of Cold Steel then swap back. Carry on like this:
Zero chapter 3.
Cold Steel chapter 1.
Zero chapter 4.
Zero finale.
Cold Steel chapters 2, 3 and 4.
Azure prologue and chapter 1.
Cold Steel chapter 5 (only half the chapter, stop when you leave the first town)
Azure chapter 2.
Cold Steel chapter 5, second half.
Azure chapter 3.
Cold Steel chapter 6.
Azure chapter 4.
Cold Steel finale.
Azure's "fragment" chapter.
Cold Steel 2 prologue.
Azure's finale up until the invalidity declaration
Cold Steel 2: Act 1
Azure until Arianrhod battle
CS 2 until Albarea arrested
Azure until Mystic Core
CS 2 complete Act 2
Azure final dungeon
Cold Steel 2 final dungeon
Finish Cold Steel 2
Then there's a big timeskip before Cold Steel 3, important stuff happens, watch the anime to find out what! Cold Steel 4 is pretty much a direct sequel, then Reverie which isn't out yet and in five years time they'll translate Kuro if we're lucky and there's another timeskip before that but don't worry Fie is still flat as a pancake.
This is the only correct way to play.
>being this autistic
the absolute state of kisekeks, but surprisingly this isn't even the worse of them. there are clowns currently playing kuro 2 with a literal google translate patch.
It's pretty fun for a replay at least, it's interesting to see how things play out beat for beat.
There's a moment where Lloyd and Rean are within shouting distance of each other early on but they don't meet for like another year.
Play the game as they released it and you will be fine.
this is completely autistic and retarded.
>this is completely autistic and retarded.
Have fun getting whichever game you play second getting spoiled by the first then.
Azure reveals some major twists in Cold Steel and vice versa. If you don't play the chronologically the first time you're ruining the plot for yourself.
>Azure reveals some major twists in Cold Steel
Because those werent major twists in cs to begin with but a recap. It's like mgs1 spoils content from mgs3.
I don't know, they made some questionable times regarding spoilers and the timeline. Most of all I just wonder what the fucking point of Cold Steel 3's intro flash forward is for when it does absolutely nothing but spoil the involvement of certain characters in the story.
It would have been much more interesting if you could have just naturally witnessed this play out in the first half of the game but they just spoil it... because... they could?
>fucking point of Cold Steel 3's intro flash forward
Japanese do that in a lot of jrpg. It's not even a spoiler, they just wanted to (bad) introduce the new class. I can agree it's a dumb decision but not a spoiler cause you meet all of them right after the "tutorial". I mean where is the spoiler? Your fight with arianhord? You know it's on the menu and you are on the third game, about fucking damn time it happened i daresay.
I'm more annoyed about the fact that Gaius whereabouts is meant to be a mystery for the first half of the game, but the intro ruins it.
You are factually right but it wasnt this much, gaiusreally lost weight after the skies. I didn't cared too much about him in steels.
I just don't know what the scene added to make it worth spoiling anything.
Not a fan of CS1's cold open for the same reason either though. At least that's already spoiled if you played Ao first though.
>CS1's cold open
It went out a shitton after AO. If you played that (as a fan of the series) you already knew, if for some reason you started with cs you needed the context. If you played cs1 with the intention of playing AO after well you fucked up.
Yeah unless you played the games in the fantastic western release order of:
1, 2, 6, 3, 7, 8, 9, 4, 5, 10
Infact i waited to play steel 1, i played skies when all of 3 were released, used the i dont remember who fanpatch fror crossbell, then bought the cs at the release. Even if i have already played crossbel i waited anyway to have azure released too before buying them on steam.
They are retards, this is really unquestionable.
>You're a retard unless you do a thorough background check on any newly released JRPG and intimately acquaint yourself with its development
Unless you were calling Falcom retards for their choice of partners in which case I'd agree.
>unless you do a thorough background check on any newly released JRPG and intimately acquaint yourself with its development
I honestly do that with all japanese game i intend to buy. I did it for the ys, the dqs, star oceacs etc even the neps games. I know my enemy and i play with his rules.
>Falcom retards for their choice of partners
Yes of course i intended that.
It's a perfectly fine order, but I'd suggest this.
where does Kuro fit in this?
Considering NISA's "What is Kuro no Kiseki?" -tweet I'd say they have no clue.
>3, 7
CS2 released in the west about 6 months before the 3rd
nayutabros...
I know about the cold steel "integrations", don't like but i can live with that. Have they censored anything else on the first game? Cause i still have to buy it, i was waiting for both to come out.
>lgbt shit
Trash
Is this better than persona? those games were kinda disappointing
Where the fuck is Kuro
There's no way any of these games are good when they make so many of them
how do I start with trails series?
ofc not with trails in the sky, I tried but when I saw SPEED UP BATTLE I gave up. its like
>we know this battle is shit and animation are too long!
fuck this!
I dropped the series after CS3 because I had enough of Rean and all the bs.
How's kuro? I already got it patched, not sure if I want to start it though.
it's a return to form if you liked Sky but it doesn't hit the same if you didn't complete Rean's 5 game journey
I don't care about the story, I've given up on that long ago. I'll just play it ironically. Is it fun?
it's a bit of a mixed bag
it has no minigames like fishing or cards so it's just NPC autism and story/side quests
but the battle system is nice, you can freely move around during your turn, it has positionals to hit and dual moves with other party members so it feels much more dynamic
it reintroduces Sky's orbment lines with certain quartz combinations giving you different skills which makes for really good build variety
I also enjoyed how the story stops being so wholesome and introduces a darker tone
Cheers, I'll give it a try.
This is the one series I have come to despise solely due to its horrifically awful fanbase. You disgusting pieces of shit actually ruined Trails for me.
come to the general on /vg/ we'll right their wrongs
/fg/ is shit tho, a few schizos ruined it
didn't ask
Only the Trails fanbase could go so far as to sexualize a child r*pe victim.
This is one of the few series that I'm perfectly content to enjoy on my own and don't really feel a need to discuss anything. I just search the archive for info or peek in Ganker threads to see if there's some rogue newfag who needs help. It is funny how much vitriol there is compared to the overall heartwarming tone of the series though.
just ignore /fg/ or any containment chamber from /vg/ and you should be fine
Blame these cum-slurping gays for exposing a horde of Redditors to the series.
>ruined Trails for me.
That was the goal retard. They don't play the games, they just want to ruin it for everyone else who does. They literally admit this. Don't let activist trannies get into your head.
Does anything ever happen in these games?
Played all of Cold Steel 1 and nothing happened until the end then when I started 2 they undid that happening.
>when I started 2 they undid that happening.
Huh?
The entirety of 2 is dealing with the fallout of 1's ending.
I mean I didn't get far but it seems like even in war time is still has the same insanely slow gameplay and and story loop pacing as the first one.
The games have used literally the exact same pacing loop since the beginning yes. That never changes. It's the same in Sky. It's the same in Cold Steel 4.
yeah every chapter has a hype conclusion and cold steel 1 had 7 of them
if you can't enjoy the moment to moment structure Kiseki is not for you go play Tales instead
That was probally suppose to be an insult but I like those games so I guess it's good advice, for me when I play a 40 hour Tales game it feels like I had a big adventure but when I play a 40 hour Trails game it feels like I played the prologue to a big adventure that never comes.
True, I wish it was Xillia 2 being ported to Steam in a few days and not fucking Ao.
man, I'd love to play xillia 2 again at a higher fps. ludger is still my favorite tales mc for his gameplay
>introduced to an entire new cast of people from students to teachers to villagers
>began the intricate journey of a troubled protagonist with many mysteries
>got to bond with an entire class worth of party members and their personal issues
>explored a whole new region and got to see all the cultures and different settings
>got exposed to the intricacies of the country and its politics, traditions and folklore
>had a developing arc plot on top of that
>had an overarching series wide plot on top of that
>it's just the first game of a 5 games arc of a 20 games long series
yeah stick with your small brain franchise, you get to kill God 40h into the game it's so hype
Seething
hit a nerve, did I?
Haha that's our Trails gatekeeper
can you fuck off to /fg/ schizo
trailsfanboys are so obnoxious
Look at this retard trying to shill this garbage series like some JRPG opus magnum writing
tell me where I lied, fuck face
I'm busy playing Kuro
This reminds me I need to get back on my playthrough of Trails in the Sky FC modded to add in all the Evo material and upgrades.
Reminder that if you used turbo in sky you didn't beat the game.
A sacrifice I'm willing to make for the sake of my sanity.
reminder I did and believing you can gatekeep trails game is laughably pathetic
I'll gatekeep as much as possible so that I can keep people like
away from the series
imagine caring about plot
>NISA
Nah.
Elie is boring.
She was my least liked in Zero for this reason, hope she gets a bit better in Azure. She's just a nice girl trying to do her best or something, pretty bland.
Is Rean the worlds greatest fictional character?
Yes, surely cookie cutter Gary Stu is the best protagonist ever made.
too many hahas, he gets a 7.8
name 10 characters that have the same deep level of progression and character building that Rean has
I'll wait
I really do love Kiseki so much bros. It's been about 2 years now since I was knee deep in the series and I still think about all the great moments every day. I even exhausted every bit of NPC dialogue (even in Crossbell) and read every book and did every side quest and don't regret a second.
It's not in the picture but I even played through Kuro 2 using a dictionary, text capturer, and extremely limited Japanese over the course of 300 hours.
Make fun of the series, it's pacing, Rean, whatever else, but this series hit a sweet spot for me and at some point while playing through I realized "this is my dream JRPG series" and I don't think I'll ever find anything else like it.
>Playing the inferior version 9 years later
Only trannies hate the chad Rean.
all falcom games are shovelware
