Trauma Center

This is medical KINO!! You really don't think it would be that good, but it really fricking is. It's also hard as frick.

I'm really enjoying Second Opinion on Wii right now, which from what I understand it a remake of the DS games. How do the native Wii games compare? How are they on DS?

Second Opinion has a different final chapter from the DS game. You should play both, they're both good. The DS games pretty much play the same way, but with touch controls.
The rest of the Wii games are original. Trauma Team has more varied gameplay, including forensics.
I regret that Atlus completely abandoned the series after DS/Wii. It was fun with a lot of potential.

So is it worth playing the DS games and Second Opinion since they're the same? Or should I play the first two on DS then jump to the Wii games?

It's worth playing both imo. The final chapter is different on DS and Wii and you get to see how they refine the gameplay in the next games.
Have fun, it's a great series.

        >So is it worth playing the DS games and Second Opinion since they're the same
Second Opinion is only a remake of Under the Knife 1
Under the Knife 2 might as well be a remake of New Blood, since it rips 90% of its operations directly out of that game

Oh shit NB has couch co-op?

yeah, that's the whole point of having 2 main characters

I miss the art style of the original. it wasn't great, but it didn't feel as generic as the persona art it got later

      Anonymous

Yeah, art kinda just looks like Doi's D-list reruns.
But the original was extremely generic in its own way - arguably more so because it was just straight bargain bin manga instead of one specific artist being kinda lazy with designs, couldn't keep it consistent to save their life and was also super cheap with portrait state and bg counts.
New Blood is probably the art peak for Trauma, because at least Doi experiments with palettes to keep it fresh and the hyper-warm look lends to great bgs. That motion comic shit in Trauma Team looked so bad.

yeah I suppose that's true, it was just How 2 Draw Manga. but there was a certain charm to it

(You) are both heavily autistic. The art and designs in Second Opinion and especially Trauma Team look great. New Blood is the only one that looks ugly and boring as shit with a disgusting brown color palette everywhere

Fun games. I remember the one on Wii had that nutty final chapter where you're fighting the virus with a laser.

new blood is pretty much the same. people b***hed about fighting the magical alien viruses so there's not as much of that. it's still there but you do a lot more doctor stuff
trauma team is completely different. there's 6 doctors with different specialties. the first responder and surgeon are similar to the old games. there's also like a forensic detective and a girl who shoves a camera up people's butthole.
play them all, and under the knife 2 on ds

No, even with the DS ones you really want at least a tablet pen. Emulating Trauma Team was a nightmare, every goddamn key on the keyboard ended up mapped to a specific motion. Get a dolphin bar or don't bother IMO.

        >Get a dolphin bar or don't bother IMO.
Oops, meant to specify the DS games. I think Dolphin supports the Switch controllers as proper Wii remotes so I'd probably use that for the Wii games. But thanks for the second opinion.

        >dolphin bar
is there a new version of that? I bought one ages ago, but dolphin added some new bt feature that's supposed to be faster/more accurate/whatever called bt passthrough, and I specifically remember them saying the dolphinbar didn't support that. I've never really noticed any problems just using mine normally, but maybe I'm missing something

I still use this old ass mayaflash bar, does support passthrough - passthrough is mainly just so wiimote audio doesn't sound like a speaker thrown in a tumbledryer.

            Anonymous

looks like the first revision of the dolphinbar works with passthrough, but has the problem with the leds burning out, but the second revision that fixed the led problem can't do passthrough. but then they also made a special firmware that a guy posted on the dolphin forums that allows you to use passthrough on the second revision anyway? very weird situation all around https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-dolphinbar-and-bluetooth-passthrough

I'll go against the grain and say second opinion and new blood work extremely nicely with a mouse + any controller in your left hand for the left analog stick to select tools. you'll have to map moving the wiimote and nunchuk forward to a button to use the defibrillator, but that's not a big deal. trauma team is a different story
also mouse makes the games easier, but they're difficult games so that's not a big deal either

Under the Knife 2 is my absolute favorite DS game and while I like the DS games more than the Wii games since the Wiimote doesn't give you the same precision as a (resistive) touch screen, they're alright too. Play NB if you want more of SO (with optional couch co-op) and play TT if you want something that isn't constant surgery but in the same setting.
Atlus missed their chance to make Under the Knife 3DS and I'll never let it go. A capacitive touch screen wouldn't work as well, either.

trauma team does as well iirc. I remember mostly just using a younger sibling as a stabilizer bot

      >play TT if you want something that isn't constant surgery but in the same setting.
Trauma Team's problem is that most of the alternate playstyles in it just aren't that fun. Especially the bone doc's, jesus christ, but butt-probing isn't far behind.
Brown Chie's patient juggling is really the only thing that stands up to regular Trauma gameplay, and it really just is regular Trauma gameplay but simpler.

I did like the Diagnostician bits, though, wish there was more of that.

I think both systems have their merits. ds allows for extreme precision and you can move around really fast (partially because ds screens are small, but still), whereas the wii is less precise but being able to switch tools instantly using your other hand is really nice, no dual stylus wielding required

Nunchuck alone makes Wii the better version. I hate switching on DS and for some reason the pointer on the wiimote just feels better for almost everything
