Trying to get a copy of JP Pokemon Crystal to work on JP Pokemon Stadium 2 with a Transfer Pak but it seems it doesn't recognize it. Gives me a bunch of question marks and unrecognized ID. The game file is new with a LVL5 Cyndiquil.

Anyone know what's up or can translate the text?

Are you sure the internal clock battery in Crystal is still working? Might be because that's dead

I jus replaced the save battery and the game seems to save and load just fine now.

...on my Game Boy Color that is. The Transfer Pak doesn't recognize it though.

Maybe you need to have received the Pokedex.

      This IIRC
That's the case for all of the games, it's unusable in Stadium until you get your Pokedex and do the professor's initial fetch quest IIRC, it's been forever

No wait, that couldn't be right or else you can't start a new game, it's all the other stadium features that shouldn't work until then
Otherwise it's probably the transfer pack being a fragile b***h again. It was a b***h to work with back then, I can't even imagine now
Be sure the cart is cleaned, so is the transfer pak, yadda yadda. Put your transfer pak on a second controller in any slot and let it sit somewhere you won't touch it
But otherwise if it was a connection issue the game would just outright stop normally, so I dunno, but the damn thing is a fragile piece of shit and emulating the whole thing is probably superior at this point because of that

That is not stadium 2, not the gen 2 one, I think japan has 3 stadiums, you got the wrong one

You're correct, the first two JP games were combined into the western release of Stadium. The 3rd release in Japan is western Stadium 2; Pokémon Stadium Gold and Silver.

      Ah that explains it thanks.

So I'd need Pokemon Stadium 2 Gold & Silver instead of regular Stadium 2 to transfer Crystal or any Gen 2 game file.

why are you playing japanese pokemon if you cant read japanese.

attention, when you unplug your gameboy cartridge, that weird stadium pack you plug into your controller, and your controller, turn off the power.

I have a ton of Japanese stuff I imported a while ago and wanted to test the Transfer Pak and all the features you get from it without having to buy the more expensive American versions of the games which I don't have.

I think it's just called Pokemon Stadium Gold and Silver with no numeral. Also download Google Translate on your phone and it will overlay english text to whatever you point your camera at. It's actually reasonably useable for menus, etc.

I will now hijack this thread to complain about the japanese versions of pokemon crystal

    >battle tower tied to the mobile game service that has long since ended so you cant even access it anymore
    >daycare man wont give you an egg like in the english version because it got distributed though the mobile service
    its not fair

I'd imagine the main reason to complain about the japanese version of any pokemon game is that you have to play it with weird pokemon names. unless you're one of those weirdos who calls them by their asian names

That is a huge bummer don't get me wrong, but why not just play the english release?

I dont play japanese games in english anymore so my japanese doesnt deteriorate. I do own both the english version and japanese version though so it doesnt really matter.
