Why the FRICK do Americans feel the need to localize every single fricking name in Pokemon? If a girl is called Tomoko, leave it like that. Don't go around copypasting random English names like fricking CAITLYN.

but then little timmy will want to name his daughter tomoko
kids who played original pokemon are old enough to have kids now, imagine all the tomoko jones running around, that's cultural death
>Tomoko Jones
That name sounds badass.
Sounds like a sequel to Osmosis Jones where Ozzy's host gets a blood transfusion from a Japanese person and ends up teaming up with and marrying a Hakkekkyuu
Nah bro, Ozzy is into those Latina cells.
Frog here.
I had a client named Hinata Dupont, recently.

I do recently feel that all the localized names for the human characters in Pokemon are pretty unnecessary (the Pokemon themselves are more understandable since there's kind of an angle of the name puns giving indications about typing or attack patterns or whatever), but it feels weird to complain about the practice on random trainers whose names you'll forget immediately after the battle instead of the major characters.

IIRC Danbooru has a policy of using the localised Pokémon names, but the original trainer names
almost all major characters have some meaning behind their names too
don't like it? play the game in jap then. The other languages like Spanish also change all the names
THAT'S BECAUSE YOU DO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE YOU STUPID FRICKHEAD
TRANSLATORS JUST GRAB THE FRICKING LOCALIZED ENGLISH NAME AND USE SOMETHING THAT RHYMES WITH IT
STOP TRANSLATING THE FRICKING NAMES YOU FRICKING IDIOTS
have a nice day.
This but ironically
Man I love French so much
RBY : Brock= Pierre
RSE: Steven=Pierre
It was such a dumb idea they had to put he's surname to avoid confusion
How does that even happen
Pierre means stone/rock, so any rock-related dude gets named that
>forgets he is playing a literal children's game
i hope you know a japanese man translated and localized the entirety of gen 4
Maybe he shouldn’t have changed the names
I always thought that there was something a bit strange about DPPt's dialogue. It seemed a bit wordier than the games usually are.
i hate weebs so much
Ok pedo
>HURR IF YOU WANT TO ESCAPE OUR moronATION JUST PLAY IT IN YOUR LANGUAGE
WE. FRICKING. CAN'T!!!!
TRANSLATORS JUST GRAB THE ENGLISH NAME AND CALL IT A DAY
WHY DO YOU HAVE TO RUIN EVERYTHING YOU TOUCH
FRICKING AMERICANS I FRICKING SWEAR
Amamo, Amamo, and Amamo are the same as Japanese.
>AMERICANS AMERICANS AMERICANS
Maybe thirdies shouldn't be so fricking lazy and should translate the source material? Oh wait, you're too stupid. Stay reliant.
Imagine not being a German chad. Cope and seethe, have fun getting cucked by Anglos.
You’re the guy who doesn’t own his own house, aren’t you?
The frick are you talking about? Do you think there is only one German person on this website?
One too many.
Is that why I'm seeing female names for obviously male trainers?
>Getting this furious over something as trivial as npc names that you'd only see once in game then immediately forget about
Take your meds, you unironically have schizophrenia.
every so often i am reminded that i share a board with people like this, and it makes my day that much worse
You lost me, OP. What am I supposed to be angry about?
I prefer the localized names most of the time
Nob was a visionary.
>le japanese name is... le good and superior!
>play the game in japanese? why would i do that?
lol, lmao even
Genuine autism.
Ganker advertisers are making a fortune off people like you
>proceeds to make the same exact thread on Ganker
holy mental illness
That's understandable. The thing that always confused me is when they replace a Japanese name with another Japanese name (they do this often for Black Belts).
Ask someone who's never watched anime how to pronounce these names. They WILL butcher them. As far as translations go names are pretty innocuous. They really don't matter so if course you want to make them not stand out. If every single trainer in the game was named something like Shirona or Rurina it would be incredibly off-putting
Its from a bygone time where parents were worried that kids were getting exposed to Japanese culture and were going to grow up to be socially awkward japanophiles... oh wait...
Can’t comprehend why anyone would care about this unless they were suffering from severe autism
Imagine one of the Black NPC Guys named Mitsurugi...
Are you actually going to really believe that some Random Black Guy's Parents actually named him after a Samurai!?
Maybe, if his Parents was Weebs or Blasians, but normally, no they wouldn't.
Now you see why the names need to be regional.
>Are you actually going to really believe that some Random Black Guy's Parents actually named him after a Samurai!?
Yes I can believe that
Tuber thread?
Tuber? I barely know 'er
Me on the right

It'd be great if they at least used british English. I fricking hate reading dumbass american words for things. As a kid I had no idea what an "inner tube" was but I guessed that's what ameritards call a swim ring. Now the game is full of brown trannies and fat c**ts thanks to americans.
BRIT DETECTED
Why the frick is it called an inner tube?
Because you put air in the tube
Yeah?
You do that for a lot of things but you don't see us calling a ball an inner sphere.
I'm guessing they think it's like a tube inside of a truck tire.
Different hemisphere c**t.
It was fine up until they established that characters that are explicitly from Kanto/Johto/Hoenn/Sinnoh should have Japanese names, which ruins the consistency between early localization and now. Prime example is Kabu in Pokemon Sword, who would definitely not be named that if he wasn't from Hoenn.
if every name in pokemon was chinpei kikiro totoji jiroko choji tojo tsumuji tsumogi tsubaki tsukasa kimiyo tomoyo Junichi shichi michi Kenichi Keiichi kenpachi kentaro I would not be immersed in the game at all as a kid or an adult
