Why the FRICK do Americans feel the need to localize every single fricking name in Pokemon? If a girl is called Tomoko, leave it like that. Don't go around copypasting random English names like fricking CAITLYN.

Sounds like a sequel to Osmosis Jones where Ozzy's host gets a blood transfusion from a Japanese person and ends up teaming up with and marrying a Hakkekkyuu

I do recently feel that all the localized names for the human characters in Pokemon are pretty unnecessary (the Pokemon themselves are more understandable since there's kind of an angle of the name puns giving indications about typing or attack patterns or whatever), but it feels weird to complain about the practice on random trainers whose names you'll forget immediately after the battle instead of the major characters.

IIRC Danbooru has a policy of using the localised Pokémon names, but the original trainer names

That's understandable. The thing that always confused me is when they replace a Japanese name with another Japanese name (they do this often for Black Belts).

Ask someone who's never watched anime how to pronounce these names. They WILL butcher them. As far as translations go names are pretty innocuous. They really don't matter so if course you want to make them not stand out. If every single trainer in the game was named something like Shirona or Rurina it would be incredibly off-putting

Imagine one of the Black NPC Guys named Mitsurugi...
Are you actually going to really believe that some Random Black Guy's Parents actually named him after a Samurai!?
Maybe, if his Parents was Weebs or Blasians, but normally, no they wouldn't.

Now you see why the names need to be regional.

It'd be great if they at least used british English. I fricking hate reading dumbass american words for things. As a kid I had no idea what an "inner tube" was but I guessed that's what ameritards call a swim ring. Now the game is full of brown trannies and fat c**ts thanks to americans.

It was fine up until they established that characters that are explicitly from Kanto/Johto/Hoenn/Sinnoh should have Japanese names, which ruins the consistency between early localization and now. Prime example is Kabu in Pokemon Sword, who would definitely not be named that if he wasn't from Hoenn.
