can i get a quick rundown on the different versions of the turok canon? i know the comic has changed hands a few times. my understanding is that when the 90s games came out, acclaim owned the IP?
No, they were owned by Valiant. Acclaim then based their game off the Valiant comics and then Acclaim bought out Valiant and started publishing their own Turok comics in-line with the video game releases, which is why you had them directly referencing the video games after 1996.

Always knew this (thanks Official N64 Magazine!) but never had access to the comics nor actually cared enough to seek them out.
Either way, you can really tell from the first two games that there's supposed to be A LOT going on in the background, but its never properly fleshed out, which is a shame, but I guess that was beyond the scope of the dev team.

I remember getting this game with my brother the day it came out in 1997. We were blown away after playing FPS shooters like Doom until that point. We knew it was special, and to this day I still say it's one of the most underrated and one of the most influential and groundbreaking FPS ever.
Like Doom it still holds up today and is a lot of fun.
