Special Edition has turbo and Vergil. The one to play.
vergil is boring as all frick in 3, i'm literally S ranking every mission doing nothing just spamming swords and mashing triangle and weapon swap
The special edition is the dumbed down western version. The original is 10x harder. Dark souls level hard.
Original is "harder" because normal was just hard mode. Everything else continues on the same. Worst thing SE did was have the Gold/Yellow mode options.

the original jap version had what we call normal as normal while the original western 3 had hard as normal
I remember there was a cheat code on PS2 that unlocks all difficulties and costumes.
enemies start to actually acknowledge your existence on very hard, that's when the game gets good

The standalone pc version is hot ass, If you're a graphical purist and the fricky hd collection textures bother you just emulate the PS2 version
