not him, but work in finance, a lot of banks/funds will close investments that have a negative unrealized over one that has a positive one if they suspect a market downturn. If you sell your positive investments, you owe tax plus still have exposure to the downturn through your negative investments. If you sell the negative investments instead, you gain a similar level of market exposure but at least are able to save the tax deduction on the already negative investment. Understanding Finance is like a bellcurve, morons have no idea how it works but reach the right conclusions because ultimately everyone working in Finance is autistic about trying to maximize everything.

"It's worth mentioning that during the play tests, the split between Alexios and Kassandra was roughly 50/50. Phillips even believed the final numbers would showcase a bit more favoritism toward Kassandra when Assassin's Creed Odyssey fully launched, but it was actually quite the opposite."
"As it stands, the player usage stats indicate that the player divide between the two protagonists is "two-third Alexios" and "one-third Kassandra." Considering that Kassandra is the canon protagonist, one can definitely understand Phillips' surprise."

That French guy probably single-handedly saved the game from a commercial disaster.

More so that the team lead being interviewed was reluctant to talk about it for painfully obvious reasons.
It also goes to show just how bad it is when a suit - marketing no less - is the one who kept it treading water. Of course they made damned sure to push Kassandra as the canon choice in the next game.

The ESG scam is running out of gas, as more and more companies and states are realizing ESG mutual funds are bad investments. The money is running out and especially with impending economic turmoil, most investors are going to be pivoting away from ESG and back towards profitability. The fact that the entertainment industry cannot survive without popular products also means that ESG peddlers like BlackRock are going to have less and less influence.

ESG has been a huge midwit trap. It's all a glorified pump-and-dump scheme. Basically these ESG-touting investment firms trick these companies into thinking that ESG checks are a form of continuous longterm welfare to let them bypass their customers' collective disinterest in their purposely unappealing products. Shoehorning insincere real-world sociopolitics (almost always left-leaning) serves to broaden investment appeal in the shortterm, only to rugpull those not in on the scheme when the product does not perform to the company's standards.

      >Ubisoft is becoming a three trick pony and consolidating around Tom Clancy, Far Cry, and Assassin's Creed.

They've been mishandling there Tom Clancy IP for the last decade. Ghost Recon wildlands is practical a Far Cry game. I don't know why they make everything open world it eat up so much more time and resources. They jumped on the season pass model Rainbow Six siege, no campaign only pvp. competitive multiplayer are a trap, keeping a player over years is next to impossible. For every fortnite or COD there dozen RE:verse and Splinter cell is dead.
Hitman has been fairly successful in the last few installments, you'd think Ubisoft would have been clamouring copy the open sandbox levels with multiple objective and ways to complete them.

I remember being really, really excited in high school to go over to a friends house that just got the lastest Assassin's Creed.
We both played for about 30 minutes, maybe an hour because of the JRPG/cutscene start, and then just put it down.
Bland, annoying, no player agency, "cool" actions without anything cool happening. For instance, it sounds badass that you're an assassin that has to listen in on conversations to track down someone and then ultimately do the job. What actually happens is literally mmo-tier gameplay though.
So, to answer you question, there hasn't ever been a good Assassin's Creed because I seriously doubt they improved upon this formula.

Good. They stopped trying years ago. All their games are exactly the same every year, just identical reskinned open world tedium. They killer Assassin's Creed with the dogshit RPG mechanics and terrible, floaty Witcher ripoff combat. Far Cry had been exactly the same game every time for over a decade now. They ruined Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. They keep dumping money down the drain trying to make battle royale games no one wants because they are comically late to that party. Just let this failed company die, it's what they deserve for flooding the industry with useless diversity hires and refusing to spend any money or effort on improving their franchises.

They have $2 billion in cash & equivalents on their balance sheet. $1.5 billion after they pay their upcoming debt maturity.

They will be around for a while that is certain. In terms of trying to fix profitability that has downtrended recently, they just need to double down on core franchises, and keep doing licensing deals like the Avatar game, since they essentially get free marketing.

Constantly trying to make hits is how you get wrecked as a video game developer. Activision-Blizzard for example has been farming the same franchises for 20+ years. They haven't had a new franchise since 2016 (Overwatch). Just focus on what works and explore new formats rather than trying to make new franchises from scratch.

You can always just acquire new franchises by M&A and scale them up like Tencent, Activision-Blizzard, Microsoft do. It's a proven model.

Ubisoft is to blame for the leftist infestation of the video game industry, so frick them and good riddance. The Montreal game dev clique is where 90%+ of the Twitter screencaps that get spammed here as outrage threads come from, and there's only a Montreal game development scene because Ubisoft opened Ubisoft Montreal, and then helped other studios get set up there as well to turn it into Canada's "tech hotspot". The development teams that made Gotham Knights and nu Saints Row are also in Montreal. If those companies all die out, the trannies and diversity hires will basically be out of the industry with no one left to keep hiring them.

Also most these people are not locals and moved here, the americans are by far the worst. People think montreal is some leftist paradise when that is far far far from the truth. Quebec has always been national socialist the nordic model plus national pride/culture/max racism. If you're in a union you can scream at someone calling them a subhuman sand Black person terrorist speak french or leave etc etc with no repercussions. We're also slowly going back to singleplayer games with an emphasis on narration and storyline.
The most surprising is that this conclusion was reached first by EA, who did a complete 180 in the recent years by going from "nowadays players only want multiplayer features, lootboxes and cosmetic DLCs" to "actually gamers are craving for singleplayer only games like in the good old times".
I believe they said that after Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released and sold better than they ever expected. EA was skeptical a fully single player star wars game would be popular, and the game ended up selling faster than all their other games in the recent years.

EA can afford to do that because they have the ultimate money printer in FIFA. They realised they don't have to make every game FIFA, they just have to keep farming FIFA and make good games for the rest. Also the flop that was Anthem hit them hard.

I used to love a lot of Ubisoft's games. Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Prince of Persia, Far Cry. But you're exactly right. They turned every single one of their games into the exact same, homogenized, boring garbage. I can't stomach the thought of buying or playing another one of their games at this point because I have already played it before. They are all functionally the same.

There is no magic anymore, and they have no clue what to do with their IPs. AC has become a bloated open world game that people burn out before even finishing half of it. Far Cry's been recycling the formula from 3. Splinter Cell doesn't know how to be a stealth game that gets mainstream, so it always leans into loud stealth like Conviction, Double Agent and Blacklist.

Good, they ruined open world games with their unoriginal and braindead mechanics. There's a reason why everyone talks about a game having "Ubisoft towers" as a bad thing. I haven't played an Ubisoft game since Ass Creed Origins, and I got so bored in that game I could only stomach 6 hours of it.

The thought of spending another minute playing a game like Assassin's Creed Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla or Far Cry 3/4/5/6 genuinely makes me feel nauseous. They stopped innovating and making interesting games about 8 years ago. The last good games they released were Black Flag, Rainbow Six Siege, Steep, and ANNO 1800.

I can actually pinpoint the moment I realized all of their games were built off the same exact same framework when I noticed that Steep and The Division shared a lot of the same outfits/customization options and animations. There was specifically a backpack that was identical in both games that moved the same exact way when the character moved. And it's only gotten worse since then.

      >Tencent buyout when?
Never a french media company has been trying to hostile take over the company for almost a decade they own like 15-20% of the shares

The reason why ubisoft no longer takes risks or makes fun games is because of said company if stock prices fall these dudes buy shares slowly gaining more ownership and power being able to force wtv homosexualree and cringe into development
If they gain complete ownership of the company they are going to gut it for profit selling off every studio but the main 3 and sell off IPs for an insane profit its rather sad and odd i'd be cool if the quebec government step in and went hey so the company might be from france but our funding and workforce is what built this company so frick off no you cant kill a massive quebec company that built an empire while as always you frickers were lazy and corrupt taking all the profits and glory would be even funnier if somehow they nationalized the company it would unironically be for the best

I hate how every single time there was something in a game that worked they just copied it to everything else.
Assassin's Creed, The Division, Ghost Recon, Far Cry are all the same fricking game but with a different coat of paint these days.
Siege has its own niche, same with For Honor.
Beyond that they're just starting and cancelling like a million BR games that all fail because they have no idea what they're doing.
They're trying to bring back Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia but those have failure written all over them.

And I also blame ubisoft for the absolute fricking shit standard they've seemingly set for open world games that most AAA devs seem to copy. It's like a fricking list: X enemy camps, Y enemy strongholds, Z number collectables that all play out the same way.
For all the shit people (myself included) give Bethesda at least with Skyrim or Oblivion I can see a dungeon location and name on an online map and there's a decent chance I'll remember the general layout for it, what made it unique. You could put a gun to my head and ask me to do the same with Ubisoft's games and I'd tell you to stop wasting your time and shoot me.

Ubisoft is the best example of a company where creativity goes to die.

Because they spend a ton on diversity hire salaries and useless studios.
Their net income is something like €50 million. Every year they risk their existence so they locked themselves in this cycle of yearly copypasted goyslop to keep themselves afloat.
Ubisoft Montreal alone has over 4000 employees.

20 000 employees, about a quarter in Canada alone.

Electronic Arts has barely 10 000 employees and generally makes $1 to 5 billion in net revenues.
Square Enix has about 5000 employees and makes around $200 million in net revenues
Activision Blizzard, about as many as EA (10k) and something like $3 to 4 billion in net revenues

Ubisoft is pozzed, plagued by diversity hires, that need to have studios everywhere on the planet while not selling a lot of games to begin with. They put themselves in that position.

      >It’s honestly astonishing. It’s true, web3, crypto, the blockchain and NFTs are not dead as a concept despite recent declines, but in terms of their integration in video games, it’s been nothing short of disaster after disaster. Anything even tangentially related to NFTs from traditional publishers has been roasted so hard it’s made these companies feel like they’ve touched hot stoves. In the wider NFT game space, we saw the utter collapse of the game that was held up as a paragon of the potential of web3 gaming, Axie Infinity. Square Enix is living in a fantasy world where none of this seems to have happened, and believes it’s definitely a great idea to throw lots of money down this hole while selling off studios like Eidos and Crystal Dynamics which made actual video games.

SE will, unfortunately, not go under because they are a massive publisher that deals with anime, manga, LNs, movies, etc. They might eventually decide making more FFs isn't profitable, but they won't just go under. I'm not sure what else Ubisoft has other than games.

Im not saying square didnt make any mistakes, but it is obvious how the people responsible for managing those branches was different than the ones dealing with IPs like FF and KH. This is why they constantly put money in those tomb raider games and had unrealistic expectations because it was a western ip
And there is reports how even the own managers of eidos were terrible and didnt communicate shit with their own employees

People knew to stay far the frick away from the studio due to the moronation like yeah tomb raider an IP from the 90's that no one cares about is totally going to sell 35 million copies on 7 platforms

Not as a company, but they'll likely reduce their video game activity by a lot. They sold 3 of their main studios last summer.

Yes that's why they got laughed at. Their most valuable IP is assassin's creed and looking at how well Ghost of Tsushima did without the IP brand literally anyone can make a historical open world game and get just as much sales without any issues.
