Is the game actually good now, or is it just better optimized.
Because flying around to different coloured planets to collect different coloured rocks in other to get to more different coloured planets got pretty boring after a few hours.

      Anonymous

they keep adding more shit to a game that is still boring to play. I don't know how they do it.

        Anonymous

They keep adding stuff but they don't care if that stuff works together

Entire classes of gameplay are obsolete by this point because other parts of the game do it better

      >fly around to different coloured planets

but uhhh you have AI fleets in space, a multiplayer hub, bigger randomly generated space stations, alien language learning
but not once did they ever think of addressing the garbage base gameplay

      Anonymous

They went all in on the multiplayer base building. The core gameplay is still terrible, but it doesn't matter as the game has become yet another chat room.

      Moose

It's got the exact same issues it had at launch but with more grinding. They fixed some stuff and focused more on base building, but at the end of the day it's flying around the same looking planets, seeing the same randomly generated objects to get basic materials out of, maybe scanning some fauna (Which now spawn so you can scan all of them without running around for hours), and seeing the same five or six setpiece locations that are identical on every planet and almost never worth visting as you explore. The only new biome (The ocean one) is garbage because there's nothing interesting in the water to see and there's only like three exclusive item types in it. The vehicle system is almost entirely pointless because sprinting, then doing a melee attack and jetpacking still gets you more momentum than most Exocrafts.

You can respect the work and effort they put into to polish it this much but at the end of the day it's boring, you've seen basically the entire game as soon as you take off and land on another planet, and no matter how much they fix the core is rotten. I 100% it at launch, then I 100% it on permadeath when NEXT came out, and then I tried it for like two hours a few months back for a Playstation Stars reward and I still stand by these statements. Like, between NEXT and the update maybe three months ago almost nothing has changed outside of the UI, they added in some sort of settlement system which means more grinding to do boring stuff, they added in gyro support which works great though jankily, and they fixed the Terrain Manipulator.

People will argue with this, but it holds a certain autism akin to playing minecraft. No "real" endgame objective and more of a "make your own adventure" kind of game. The grind really isn't anywhere near as bad as it used to be either, unless you're trying to mass
If that doesn't sound appealing then you won't like it.

It's necessary if you want to unlock a lot of the stuff you can build, or if you want to follow the weird stories each character has. That also means you have to get into farming autism and refining autism. I know they made refining faster but still.

They made money when game launched
30 employees on a salary isn't that massive for a software company, in fact its shocking good for a company that maintains such a player count on steam
It goes on sale and people have bought the game over time
When they released the game on PS4 and Steam first they got a nice sizable amount of money
Then they released the game on Xbox devices
          Then for the Switch
It sells outside of sale periods as well.

They built wide, not tall, if you get my meaning.
It's just more random side shit that keeps you busy for a little bit longer, but ultimately nothing about the game is any more deep than it was at launch. It's the same experience it always was, and that experience gets stale fairly quick.
I'll admit it took me about 30 hours last playthrough though. I was left with a bad taste about it all though. Unsatisfied even despite the time it took from me.

it's a shitty indie game that has been mutated into an extremely shallow massive multiplayer game but fails at having an interesting base game to keep you hooked. It's like they keep polishing the outside and adding what they think a multiplayer game should have without taking a step back and thinking if all these systems even go together in the first place.
