People were already getting annoyed by the drip-feed rate of new content and moronic balance changes to appease shitters on Reddit and the Blizzard forums, but then they started jumping ship en masse to PUBG around the time of the game's first anniversary event. Then what playerbase they had left gradually started moving on after they started fricking with the game balance more and more thanks to ActiBlizz pivoting towards going after exportsbux.

Blizzard prioritized E-sports, I don't mean they prioritized balance over fun because even when it was relatively balanced they still made moronic changes just so they could artificially create new meta for each season.

Bad management of the game's meta. Instead of balancing weak characters to create a flat set of comps that included the entire roster in one way or another, they allowed themselves to become metaslaves and the game got boring. New characters were introduced too often and either made it into the current meta or weren't played. CC spam sucked from the beginning and nipping the problem in the bud immediately instead of waiting for it to spread was idiotic. The promise of PvE was never delivered on even seasonal events proved it was possible if they just put some fricking dev time into it.

Making 5-10 minute PVE events that we need to wait a year for isn't worth it. It's better to commit to a full system for a long term PVE thing instead of these mini games. The cinematics are nice and all but it was clear by 2018 that it wasn't going to hold players otherwise. Hopefully they can add something that has some fricking substance but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Everything else is a skill issue. They'll complain about every meta and balance change regardless how balanced it is or not. The reality is that the average gamer sucks at video games and don't have the patience to put time or commitment for getting better. Think of every other shooter out there. It needs to have some chore for them to do or non-pvp content to keep players engaged. It's the same with fighting games, rts games, mobas etc. anything relatively competitive. It just needs to have a constant flow of content outside of the normal game. They were too slow to go about it and now they're struggling to get up on their feet with these staggered releases and "early access" crap.

Anyone else who thinks some controversial thing like selling to China or having gay shit or monetization is the reason is kidding to themselves. Look how many people jumped onto Diablo despite the 2 years of complaining about monetization and all the other controversies the company has been through.

Games as a Service is Scam.

Well, a one time payment and getting extra stuff free for years is a solid deal for a P2P game. Most games don't update for free unless it comes with a DLC that requires payment. Used to be paid expansions. F2P with paid content is bordering a scam depending how much is locked behind payment or grind. I can't wait to see how outraged players will get when they see the cost for PVE.

Same problem as Pokemon GO and MapleStory 2: New updates just don't come fast enough as the demand... demands. And when they finally do, it leaves a sense of "huh, I wish this had come the previous patch, before I got burned out".

In OW's case, they tried too hard to make a game into a strict role meta that just didn't have enough characters (And new ones rarely came). We should've seen this from the start when they removed the ability to have more of one of the same character in a team.

    They fricked up ranked.
There's a whole tons of people who have mentioned this repeatedly. Only after season 2 did they address some issues..but it's been mentioned that it will take much longer to fix the rest of it because they designed the whole thing around 7 wins to change ranks.
    And then they found out.
Most higher ranked players don't play enough matches to get to the proper rank they are supposed to be in. So they degrade before they even finish.

I've been trying comp for the last week and I'm baffled at the balance. I'm just guessing the comp playerbase is so small, that they can't afford to balance them well anymore.

I'm by no means a pro OW player, but the matches I fight in are always one-sided.

        >be in comp lobby

Low MMR is just like that. My rank decayed down a lot since I didn't play for a long time until OW2 came out and I would demolish any low MMR lobby no matter what I was playing which would also result in my team having better stats since you only need to do 1 damage to get counted for an elimination participation.

Blizzard didn't add enough to keep the game alive. They focused more on skins/lootbox which burned out the playerbase. Made several buffs and nerfs that were controversial and added limited custom games late in lifespan. Overwatch 2 was a cash grab and a downgrade from Overwatch 1 and delayed the features people were excited for. Overwatch only remains in people minds due to the porn.

i think its the healers and also partially the tanks. look at it this way: they fricked it up so bad, they made a role so undesirable that it created the healbawds phenomenon. nobody wants to do it unless they are bullied into it, and that ended up getting popular with sexually submissive freaks making it weird. imagine fricking up game design that bad.

compare healing in overwatch to the common comparison, tf2. one has 12v12 as the common way to play it, and sometimes you can win without even having a medic because there are still healthpacks, engineers, and alternate healing loadouts like bb or mad milk. or if you have one medic, that could be a huge factor and an uber at the right time could decide the game, despite being only 1 player out of 12 on a team. in ow, you originally have 6 players, and 1 third of them are healers, which tend to be even more boring than medic because you dont even have things like random crits, many are just healbots with massively reduced damage that will die about 95% of the time against any other class played competently, making it FRICKING BORING. nobody likes an fps designed that way ever. and they made it worse in 5v5

in casual tf2, a medic isnt needed, but is massively appreciated when they are there. in ow, 2 medics are required to be playing great at all times, and if one is afking in spawn, you might as well do it too because the game is over. this makes everybody fricking miserable and hate the people that do play this boring but necessary class

Battle royales were slowly growing, then Fortnite decided it was what its dead on arrival zombie game needed and became the first big F2P BR widely available on PC and consoles, and then people remembered that it was fun to play a shooter where you could fricking shoot things instead of being in a war with your teammates over picking tank/healing or playing the actually fun game(and god help you you better pick the actually viable characters).
Then COD stopped fricking around with future shit and reminded everyone why it's been the best selling game of the year every year since the 7th gen started, minus when Rockstar bothers to release a game.
Then later the hero shooter concept was revisited with R6S, Apex and later Valorant, both of which place way more value on fundamental FPS ability rather than the numbers game, and surprise, people actually fricking play them.
And you're not penalized for liking a character in these games because your ability to shoot other homosexuals is more important than managing cooldowns and blasting away at shields, so your favorite skin you unlocked for a COD operator is always usable, not rotting away because they're not meta.
    Why go back to Overwatch?

And the whole multimedia promise fell flat quickly, with Blizzard's usual nonsense and its lead writer uncommitted to doing anything besides asspain about the fanbase more interested in shipping Mercy with Pharah rather than his self-insert.
League, Valorant, Apex were all more than happy to move into that space. Look at how many different LoL spinoffs have been put into play, from soft alternate brand stuff like their kpop or magical girl costumes to the RPG to the vaunted Arcane. Valorant and Apex crank out cinematics and other stuff at a rate that makes Blizzard's dev speed seem even more glacial.

Overwatch had no meaningful competition in its first year. Every year since its launch, a new shooter stakes a place in the market.
Again, why even bother with Overwatch?

One thing people don't seem to mention very often is that they fricked up the merchandising end of things pretty badly. In that first year when the game was really big, you could get maybe a t-shirt or some stationary. They waited until the game was on a serious decline until they brought out toys, tie-in comics, plushies etc etc. Stuff that would've flown off the shelves had it been released a year prior filled up junk bins and discount sections because no one cared by that point.

Bro nobody cares there's been a lesbian in every COD since MW19 and that's fricking Call of Duty, Valkyrie is eating Loba's ass every night in Apex and Valorant just had its own lesbian kiss publicity stunt a few months ago.
None of those games are struggling. If the game is still playable and it isn't a full on Sony pride parade float, sane people will not mind gay characters.

Or even warp it, going off how many really run around with the free LGBT emblems/banners in Warzone just for the sake of spicing up those killcams.
