I've been playing sword art online fatal bullet. extreme mode upping the enemy count in dungeons is getting kind of annoying when you die very quickly if they actually decide to attack at the same time. Also I hate facsimiles so much.

yes, third person shooter RPG. It's fun, though a little bit too much cutscene for my tastes.

No, the same with the entire franchise.
TriAce only has a handful of good games: play VP1, VP2 with discretion, you may not like this one, Resonance of Fate and FF XIII-3, believe it or not this one was outsourced to them.

      >No, the same with the entire franchise.
Why not? Also I like the 2D-HD JRPGs that have come out recently, and I'm looking for comfy adventuring, i.e. a good atmosphere and with good music. Wouldn't SO:STR be up my alley?

In that case play SO4 and that's it.

No, I recommend playing Star Ocean 4 The Last Hope, starting Edge Maverick. It's the best game in the series.

I raid on a WoW BC server and I play Guild Wars casually. I've been playing Death Must Die lately, a fun little Survivor game that's in EA and needs more content. I started Songs of Conquest yesterday. I'm not sure if I'll stick with it. I am two missions in, and the dialogue is painfully generic while the combat isn't exactly what I'm looking for.

I have played both Death Must Die and Songs of Conquest. For the former it can be somewhat satisfying but I think it's a bit too random and imbalanced, hinders variety a bit. For Songs of Conquest I played only a bit of it but honestly quite like it. I can see skirmishes being fun when you want some light strategy.

Yep. I feel I'm reliant on acquiring high-tier blessings, or the ability to upgrade them (and quickly, at that) while balancing the low acquisition of weaker-tier abilities and hoping I get what I want/need instead of constant new Novice blessings I don't care for. Bummed that you only get 36 talent points. I greatly like the writing with the characters, of all things. Nixi is the best.
For Songs, I like the concept of moving around the map to find buffs and take over old spots to build new buildings/etc. I'd like to find something more like Hero's Hour, where I can recruit people/an army and watch them fight it out. Basically a similar autobattler like HH but not as difficult, and easier for people like me.

They both basically have the same story with different age ratings, right down to being inspired by Graham. Alfyn dealing with the ethics of healing was pretty cool

it sort of was but I would have wanted more gravitas to it honestly, even having a big, important character like a king or something, him being a tyrant and Alfyn wondering if he should save him etc

That ain't easy to do in unspecific threads like this - I played none of your stuff and can't give any (You)s, and you probably haven't played my shit either. But let's try.

Yesterday finally finished Unfinished Business - expansion for the first Tomb Raider. It was pretty good, but so damn long and hard that I got burned out towards the end, probably should've taken a break after the main story. Before that I really enjoyed OG Resident Evil, so now about to start Dino Crisis - reading the manual right now like I always do for the older games.

Other than that, glad I successfully returned to Fallout 2 - dropped it like a year and a half ago and couldn't get back into since then. Every time I tried I realized that I don't remember a shit, don't know what I was going to do, what build I was going to make etc. Now I still don't remember everything, but at least kind of progressing.

Playing as one handed revolver cowboy, ran out of magnum ammo in Redding fighting rats and wanamingos, now can't even finish "clear the mine" quest. Can't even start the work for sheriff because of the low level, so I guess I'll have to travel to either Vault City or New Reno niw

Yes. I'm usually not good with RPGs, so it was probably the first one I managed to finish. Then I started the sequel too soon and got bored quickly.

Did you find some mechanics to be bullshit? Like how variable damage can be or how quickly you can get killed sometimes.
Or did you eventually reach the godlike point with your character/party?

            Anonymous

I think the game is too depended on crits. Like you can't just build into consistently decent damage every shot - it's always either the entire enemy's health if got a crit or barely anything if you didn't, so crit perks are always way more useful than damage perks. That kinda encourages save scumming, because often you can beat anyone if you just reload each turn untill you land a good hit, but also can die too easily if the enemy got lucky.
Also, I don't like how crucial some stats are. For example you can't really make up for low agility with good strength or anything - if you were going blind and happen to not invest enough points in this stat - you're just crippled for the entire game.

            >Or did you eventually reach the godlike point with your character/party?
IIRC I kinda reached the point when I could deal with anything. I remember proceeding through the military base and methodically killing big guys no problem. I was fed up with companions in the first game tho - frickers constantly blocking your way, killing each other etc. For that reason I don't even bother with them in Fallout 2.

this is why I haven't gone through Fallout 1 yet honestly, and not sure whether or not I will eventually
it just seems to be so inconsistent that it almost nullifies the concept of stats and equipment, because at the end of the day you'd be better off rolling a dice than ensuring your character has what it takes to carry on

                Anonymous

I try to at least limit my save scumming - for example I don't save mid-combat so I can't roll for the wanted outcome every turn. I would restart battles that went too bad for me, but I still need good weapon, armor and health items to survive.
Fallout 1 is pretty short, so I think you should try get to the end and then decide if you want to play Fallout 2.

I've seen a lot of stuff about 1 where for example within the same battle, you or enemies can inflict, say, 20 DMG or less and then suddenly you can see that shoot up to 120 and that blows my mind
which is a shame because the writing looks like it can be good fun in quite a few instances

                Anonymous

Yeah, I picked it mostly for the writing and setting. Fantasy usually doesn't seem appealing to me (except for Zelda and maybe Harry Potter) so I was looking for a non-fantasy RPG.

Playing trough Trails into Reverie and I feel like this game is doing everything possible to shit on Crossbell, both in gameplay and plot.

Let's compare the Act 2 end bosses on each route:
Rean - just some dudes who hijacked an airship
Rufus - A guy claiming to be "The Emperor" who felt like he walked out of Saint Seiya and got wrecked like a chump
    Lloyd - MOTHERFRICKING McBURN

are the different games more similar than they are different, are they too samey, at there some that are complete shit

the problem with the series is that it has been going on for so long that the older games will eel outdated after playing the modern ones.

Not to mention the timeline but the general idea is to play:
            the Sky games first
then the Crossbell games (aka Zero and Azure)
            then the Cold Steel games
then the two Daybreak games (not out yet in English)
finally Kai, when it comes out

            >are the different games more similar than they are different
gameplay wise, they are pretty close to the same across the entire series, the big difference is the Quartz (Magic) system gets tweaked from the Sky games to the Crossbell games, and then tweaked again to Coldsteel

varies from game to game. Hell, some characterization changes between games/series.

Especially with people associated with the evil Illumantai like society. One minute you are fighting to the death but then later you are having a casual conversation with them. Then you are fighting to the death in a later entry before eating Ice Cream with them in swimsuits

personally, i recommend skipping the first trilogy
the xp system has severe diminishing returns to prevent overleveling
the result is that every battle feels like a slog and you have to constantly eat food from a huge menu list
I keep getting bored and then coming back later to try to finish the first game and never can so it killed the whole series for me
