Video games as technology

Can video games be technology? Are there any video games doing cool shit like supposedly pic related or is it all a joke, has a game ever impressed you?

As of late I have such a strong distaste for videogames and for the people who play them.

It is a place where people go to die. I fricking HATE videogames.

I'm surprised how stagnant game tech is. If you take outdoor action games as an example, they still suffer terrible LOD and pop in issues. Any sort of scope or zoom optics break the game, for example a player hides in some tall grass on the top of a hill, another player with an 8x scope looks at the player and sees no grass and the player appears to be hovering over a hill made of 4 polygons rather than being hidden.

What do you expect when they stick to tech for 6-8 years that was low-mid end at the time of release? If we're talking about CPUs then it's well below low end at the time of release, mobile phone processors were more powerful 2-3 years later.

you can thank consoles for that, specs wise games have to work on amd fx with radeon 7850 equivalent pc so no wonder the games have stagnated, there's only so much you can do with optimization and code magic

      Yes. Zachtronics games, nandgame.

Why are speaking for Ganker if you aren't even browsing it.

Well, Crysis was a bit of a tech demo wrapped in a game package

If you looking for advanced tech not seen anywhere else in such a degree, try BeamNG.drive

technology can be used in games
games themselves aren't technology, other than t tech demos (see: unreal, quake, ashes of the singularity, etc)
