It’s not like the genre is dead. We’re just getting older and become desensitized to pretty much most of the scary stuff

i don't know why Ganker is so anal about those videos, they are just a neat distraction mostly forgotten nowadays, making a decent horror media is pretty hard nowadays when everyone is so numb and used to the horrors of everiday, im gonna sound like a baiting redditor but rick and morty explained it perfectly.

Mostly how puts it. Fans of the horror genre like to jerk themselves off over how not scared they are by horror games. So who in their right mind would try to make a scary game for people that just aren't scared by anything? It's far more sensible to just make "stressful" games.

My issue is mostly that they're never just packaged well and complete, they're always an "ongoing story" that drags on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on until everything is explained so meticulously there's 0 mystery and it's impossible to be scared by anything but jumpscares.

I fricking hate it when these people try to make fictional news broadcast but with texts and shitty footages that always chime in-between. And they are always devoid voice acting to make it believable. The problem is laziness and unoriginality, these hacks always plagiarize each other's homework to get views.

The core concept is genuinely frightening (vaguely supernatural, actively malicious doppelgangers where the main advice you are given is "If you see someone who looks exactly like you, or someone who doesn't look quite right, run like hell because they will stop at nothing to get rid of you").
It's just that the execution is botched as frick and every extra bit of 'lore' the series adds to that core concept somehow makes it less frightening rather than more frightening.

        Anonymous

It's because when you expand upon or explain ANYTHING, it becomes less scary. It's just sort of how our minds work, the more info we have the less terrifying something is going to be, doesn't matter what.
The reason all these fricking spooky youtube series take these 2-3 year long breaks is because they're hoping you forget.

  20. 3 weeks ago

i think horror should be about unnerving and creeping you out, with a jumpscare here or there to relieve the tension built up throughout playing. the issue is that most new horror games are just too derivative, and devs can't come up with good ideas for something scary. making something scary is a personal thing, it requires you to have had unique experiences that can shape the monsters or places you're making, and the thing most zoomers can talk about is depression and isolation. look at lovecraft, guy was so shut in and afraid of the outside world he made it into a fricked up world with old gods existing in space, or that beksinski guy whose dreams were so fricked up they made him paint like that, you just can't get the same artistic output from zoomers or even millenials
tl;dr need more fricked up traumatized people to do horror

Good horror games need to limit player options, have enemies outclass the player, and harshly punish death.
This is all now considered "bad game design" and any game that did this would be called a "relic from the past".

The stories are a mix of shitty versions of skinwalker stories via the slightly edited photos that and loss of body control you see in a lot of them, cursed/lost media shit in the way you'd see in shitty creepypastas a decade ago, and the fact that they're so dependent on the collective that empty spaces scare them, so it makes sense that them and millennials would be moronic enough to be scared by them

Its interesting seeing how analog horror tries to one-up itself in terms of how fricked everything is. I remember the Vita Carnis series, the most interesting thing was the implication that the body snatching monsters were just as clueless about the weirdest stuff out there as the humans were. A scary, mysterious world is what draws people in, but mascot horror bandwagoners think this means they can get away with replacing that with shipping and flashing spooky pictures in your face.

      >Vita Carnis

HSH is a really good game, doesnt try to jumpscare you ever, its just a fun little what if of "imagine fairy tale creatures could infest your house". I just wish it was a bit longer and wasnt as expensive. I couldnt justify not refunding it after beating it in just under 3 hours
