VITA II

Would you buy a PS Vita 2? the first one was actually good but just had a rough launch.

PS Vita 2 would do everything the Nintendon't and Steam Deck cant handle.

PS Vita 2 would literally just be a worse Steam Deck with paid online
    >b-b-b-but muh sony soul!
No such thing. Wake me up once a new Ape Escape game that isn't a low effort remaster or port gets announced

Mobile gaming killed handhelds, any new portable thing needs to be a dockable hybrid thing like the Switch or Deck

Not really. Mobile gaming only popular in a poor countries or moba addicted people.
Even gachas are not really popular anymore.

Sure, but where would they get game exclusives? Without them it would be a dead console.

Deck isn't a hybrid, though. It's a handheld with video out. You even have to buy the dock separately.
"Hybrid" implies it gets something more from being docked than just an external screen.

    1) there isn't anything the deck can't handle
    2) frick consoles, that ship sailed. the market is saturated, walled gardens are annoying
    3) what REALLY needs to happen is a new xperia play phone. this way i can just install the retroarch apk on it, and have my saves synch between my phone, deck and desktop

the vita had a lot of media capabilities lack, like a browser, music, videos and social apps
even without cfw it felt like having a smartphone when they were still rare and expensive, plus with much better games than those on phones at the time

The Vita could have survived if it had a SIM card and could do phone calls. And if Sony could have had two bundles for the PS4 launch. A standard PS4/PSVita bundle, and a PS4/PSVita bundle that had both Killzone Shadow Fall and Killzone Mercenary.

the same can be said about the psp before it. the problem is a new device would have to either go all in with constantly updating apps like a phone or go minimal like the switch, in which case the brand would have to carry it alone

The PSP has lots of the same shit way back in 2005. Man that thing was way ahead of its time (like the ngage but actually good)

Sony had this thing but nobody bought it because Sony has a bad habit of making solid phones and not advertising them or partnering with local carriers (at least in the US)

        And nobody bought it

No? Why the frick would I ever support American Sony, they're the ones who killed the Vita in the first place, just give me a Deck revision with a d-pad that doesn't suck wiener and hall effect sticks and I'm set.

      Anonymous

The Deck's standard sticks are fine. Are the hall things that much better?

        Anonymous

Hall sticks are much more durable than the standard potentiometers.

the Steam Deck has the best dpad currently on the market.
unlike the one on the 8bitdo pro, you can actually keep on pressing a direction and slightly move towards a different one without unwittingly creating a diagonal input

        >the steam deck has the best dpad currently on the market.
Utterly fricking delusional, it's generic chinese membrane garbage you can find in the same cheap controllers you complain about, a far cry from actually good d-pad's, especially the Vita's d-pad which is a disc style pad with microswitches, the best and highest possible quality when it comes to d-pads.

i said on the market. the vita isn't currently on the market.
the deck has the best dpad that is currently being sold outside of old used shit on ebay

            Anonymous

You're clueless idiot, no membrane shit is best in anything, any high quality controller with microswitches completely demolishes the Deck's shitty d-pad, it's not even better than a Dual Sense's d-pad when it comes to basic ergonomic design, and first party controllers are all entry level shit, my Raion's D-pad run laps around the Deck's d-pad, same with lower budget controllers that use disc shaped pads with membrane, the Deck's D-pad is trash, barely better than shit like Retrobit or 8bitdo's cheap junk.

The last piece of Sony hardware I owned was a Vita, I'm sorry for you that you're that much of a shit eater that you have to invoke some corporate boogeyman to pretend the Deck's pad isn't fricking trash, the deck's a wonderful piece of hardware but the shitty pad and the sticks are indefensible.

the dpad is the best thing about the deck.

                Anonymous

The best thing about the Deck is that it's a mini pc with linux at a great price ratio for its hardware's capabilities, everything else kinda blows, it's fricking gigantic, unwieldly, the display is mediocre, the face buttons are chink tier and it has a single usb port for some goddamn reason, in the most awkward possible position too.
If Valve manages to not drop it like every other piece of hardware they made including their godawful controller it has the potential to become magnificent but we're not there yet, I'd still buy it over any other alternative though, especially when the only direct competition for that price range is the Switch, which is worse than a mattel toy when it comes to build quality.
If they are smart, they will push modularity in a possible hardware revision since the current switch model is already kinda built around it given how the PCB is designed, a modular switch where you can replace and change single parts like sticks, pads and other internals without needing to fidget as much as you currently need to would be a massive breakthrough for the industry as a whole.

360 is the besd controller after wiimote+nunchuck and then mouse+keyboard. Dpads are useless.

dpads are mandatory for 2d platforming, fighting games, rhythm games and a bajillion other genres
the only thing the 360 is good at is halo, and even that is debatable
