    Overcomplicated hardware
    Poor timing in every way
Wrong documentation for developers until halfway through
    Company infighting

    Yup, it's Sega time

You can thank Sega for starting the console wars with their "Sega does what Nintendon't'" ad campaign. Sega always marketed their consoles as the "cool" choice, and autists like Chris-Chan who don't know what cool is took it as gospel.

Shit console destroyed by PSX and even the N64.

Only in regions where it got deliberately sabotaged, it shitstomped the N64 in Japan and for good reason

Anon, I know you have a nintendo vendetta or whatever so you exaggerate shit on purpose, but while the Saturn sold marginally better than the N64, N64 sold more software overall.
I love both consoles, best 2D and 3D games of 5th gen respectively.

more than 50% of games are JP-only.
would have been a raging success if it hadn't been the case.
also it bombed because it was rushed out with no games at launch, overpriced, and the 32X had left a sour taste in everyone's mouth (devs, players, retailers)

Saturn had an attach rate of 16-17%, N64 was 6-7%, but that's understandable when N64 barely has any games lmao

Not percents wtf, 16-17 games per Saturn owner and 6-7 per N64 owner

There's something nice about consoles with curated catalogs. Not saying N64 doesn't have shovelware but it has a nice selection even if you hate it on a passionate way.
I dunno systems with 200/300 games like N64 and Master System are still good systems, no consolewarring can change that.

      OH YEEEEAH.
All those JARPigs, visual novels, and hentai games we didn't get would've made it fly off store shelves and body the playstation. Never mind that support for the system collapsed over night in Japan after ff7 came out.

Yep you're right anon, not bringing over most of the Saturn's biggest games was a great idea

the cd drive never worked right and emulating it is a pain. in retrospect saturn was the filler era. the better arcade games ended up on naomi/dreamcast. the better console games ended up on playstation/nintendo.

    Black version inferior

Was a success in Japan because it had games. A huge amount of those games not released outside of japan

cool console killed by the pettiness of sega of america and their moronic believe of keeping the mega drive alive by adding tumors to it.

My dad bought one to play HotD and Daytona, both were shit ports. But we also discovered the Panzer Dragoon trilogy so it will always be a special console to me

Panzer Dragoon is fricking incredible and those are the games that singlehandedly made the Saturn worth it in my eyes.

I wish Sega would release arcade perfect ports of the Model 2 and 3 games already. Saturn Last Bronx is a fricking travesty compared to the arcade original.

a small but memorable chapter in my gaming career. special to me, like the other anon said. it was my introduction to 3d games. I played tomb raider and die hard trilogy on it. pic related was my first corridor shooter. there were also some demos and that's it I think. still put hundreds of hours in this handful of discs.

my dad was a writer for a video game mag at the time so we had every console and promo copies of every game
frickin hated this thing, its catalogue was mostly comprised of complete shovelware like mr bones or arcade ports, i think sega rally and worldwide soccer 97' were the only good games
    controller was complete dogturd too
people think the Dreamcast killed sega in the console market but it was them learning nothing from the failure of this piece of shit

It was a piece of shit when it was released and time hasn't improved things. At the time, everyone went for the PlayStation and I do mean everyone; none of my mates bought the Saturn and it pretty much killed off Sega in the minds of the buying public. I bought a Dreamcast and was derided for doing so even though at the time it was a powerhouse. Sega became the Lada of games console makers.

It was a success in Japan, but it got really fricked over elsewhere.
    >came out only 6 months after the 32X
    >releasing the console 4 months early at only select retailers, thus pissing off the ones that didn't get it, and having no games for it at the time
    >selling at $399 vs PS1's $299
    >focusing on 3D games even though the system wasn't really built for it
    >hardly any must-have titles for it, unlike PS1 and N64
    >the first American controller was fricking shit
Sega was just full of incompetent execs in the mid 90s onward.

It's funny how Sega disappeared from the face of the earth after the Mega Drive. At the time I didn't even know that the Saturn existed, I read about it online in the mid 00s. Every kid had a PlayStation, a few had a N64, literally nobody had even heard of the Saturn.
