>I was dead tired. I just wanted it to be over. It was all my fault. I'd had this dark place in my head for so long. Sometimes I'd forget the pain was there. Like it was the way you were supposed to feel. >I was not in a dark place. I was the dark place, the source of it all, the vessel. Me and the writer, we were the same.
I agree, Casey would have made way more sense for the dual protagonist pick than Saga given his pseudo relationship with Alan. Saga added nothing to this fucking game.
Door breeding a super child with the andersons is relatively interesting idea

Even if that was the case, which I personally disagree with, that doesn't make her character interesting or fun to listen to or play as. She has the charisma of a wet blanket. Her character sucked.

She seems like a real character instead of a meme so its fine

I mean compared to all the other female characters, she's pretty much a normal protagonist. She's married, loves her husband and her daughter. She cares about her Partner and even felt bad when he was out there and hurt, she doesn't tell anyone to stfu because she's a strong independent black woman and she has no dyed hair or fucks someone else while being away from her family. This used to be the standard but nowadays, women have to be these unlikeable dykes. Jesse was also good, sure, her ingame model was off but she was a nice character

I didn't particularly like her but I also didn't dislike her so it's hard to get mad about it. The game kind of fell flat emotionally with her daughter imo.

Considering Alan was trapped in the dark place for 13 years trying to write his escape, I'm not surprised he's weakened. Not everyone can be Dale Cooper.
I've gotten kinda bored of the game.
I'm not really following the story. Yes, the dark place. Alan Wake is in it. Scratch is his dark place copy that made it out of there, Alan Wake is still trapped. But it's all so boring. Fighting the same type enemies. The sudden jumpscare loud noise cuts.
Then the black chick, I'm in watery and that looks nice but I gotta run all around to find some cunt to talk to, then go to another person to talk to, then I explore around more trying to find little shitbits of shit to pick up.
Meanwhile, I gotta press M key to check my map if I missed some obscured shit.
It's boring. It looks nice, but it's pretty fucking boring.
Her mind place was garbage. Unlike Alan's it overstays its welcome and all it's really good for is the profiling, which often just feels really fuckin stupid like when she needs to find out about something specific, so she does the psychic profiling, doesn't get the answer, then you have to just click a new card which is basically just the answer she already asked 1-2 more times until she finally gets it.
I felt the same way after Cynthia. Alan's portions get better later on. The gameplay never does but some of the silly stiff Remedy pulls off is worth trudging through the game.
why doesn't this game have any kino instrumentals? like Max Payne menu theme, or Silent hill promise (reprise): https://youtu.be/ZwLvcaDMhU8?si=nxXKppdpKgqaEbso
or fuck it, even the first game: https://youtu.be/nI24_67SDn4?si=sEYIKrCvA5zEuBtt
wtf man, the vocalist music is high qual, but I need some hard instrumental shit
The tone of this game is entirely different from the first, only does it become similar to the first for a brief part near the end. I feel like the music fits the tone they're going for with this one perfectly. At times, I'm reminded of Dean Hurley's work for Twin Peaks The Return.
this game destroyed any ounce of positivity from the first game, cute old granny with lamp, gone, cute floating big daddy gone and it doesnt even have cute autistic quirky characters like death stranding to carry it, overall a very negative and depressing game I cannot recommend.
"your friends will meet him when you are gone" well ok but the game doesnt do anything with that phrase because all of alan's friends are not in the game, so it doesnt matter there are no stakes no reason to open all the boxes and drop 20 hours in the game cause strong black female shoot alan no matter what you do no choice no player agency.
I take it that it shows how the world at large has been corrupted by the Dark Presence in the intervening 13 years.
The first one was like an homage to Twin Peaks seasons 1 and 2, and Stephen King stuff (not always successful, but that's what it attempted).
>it doesnt even have cute autistic quirky characters
You take that back
I know who this is!
best character in the game

that was a little disappointing but the reveal was sick
The forced Mind Space section was fucking awful. I also hate how the profiles are cool and well acted, but then she has to explain what they just said like I'm 5.
They should have put more money into the final hour of the game as far as cinematics go, it felt like some real fucking corner cutting having to spend so much time in Saga's mindspace to get exposition delivered. Felt cheap.
For a game as cinematic as this they should have gone big on that final hour, made the presentation good, do interesting things with the cutscenes, that final cutscene in the game is so basic and bland looking, the game has many cutscenes that looked good so I don't know why the ending feels so rushed and lazy.
Actually I think the entire mind place concept was a set-up for that one sequence and they planned it from the start. It's basically the same idea as Control's ending when Jesse is infested with the Hiss but manages to overcome it but from a completely internal POV
>Actually I think the entire mind place concept was a set-up for that one sequence and they planned it from the start.
Which is why I could only imagine a midwit would say it should have been a cutscene instead...in a FUCKING VIDEOGAME FOR GODSAKE. Sometimes I wonder if the average person is legitimately braindead in general. So many retards here complain about homogenization and the industry being creatively void. Then Alan Wake 2 creatively uses the mind place both as a form of storytelling and gameplay/interactivity. It's literally a perfect synthesis of video and game, narrative and gameplay. It's unironic genius use of the unique aspects of the medium that doesn't solely lean on one side or the other.
Things like this just confirm to me that I should ignore 90% of criticisms about this game, because if you're so stupid that you missed this, or couldn't at the very least respect and appreciate it, then you don't deserve to comment on the game (I'd go as far as to say on games in general but I'll be reserved). I'm not even joking. Retards who can only fit the world into a box to cope with their ignorance will call me a shill. But I don't care at the end of the day since I know my perspective is robust and justified and if the only argument anyone can offer is an adhom (aka a non argument) then they had nothing to offer in the first place.
the game has a lot of cutscenes
the final cutscene in the game looks bland and is forgettable
what part about this is hard to understand? what part about that has to be overly intellectualized and broken down? It's simple, its a cinematic game with a lot of good looking cinematics, yet the FINAL one fails to make any kind of visual impression on you because it feels rushed.
The mind place sequence where Saga's own mind starts going against her is fine in theory, the part that feels like corners being cut is in the excessive amount of profiling, which is literally a cutscene just with less production value behind it. I can respect your autism, anon and I'm glad you love the game, I do too. I however do not see why you're so quick to assume someone is arguing in either bad faith or is a retard because they think a cinematic game could benefit from having more production value put into its final hour.
Fuck sake its pretty simple, anon. In a game with someone as choreographed as "We Sing" or the other numerous cutscenes that are really well executed and look great, why shouldn't the ending leave an impression? Legitimately why would you disagree with that?
This dude is obsessed with just screaming about how everyone who disagrees with him is just low IQ and "didn't get it". You can force feed him facts but he won't listen to you, just ignore his shitty walls of text and don't give him attention, he basically ruins every single thread he's in. I'd argue that he's potentially worse than the shitposters who jump into the threads to talk about how much they hate the game they haven't played then just leave right after.
>This dude is obsessed with just screaming about how everyone who disagrees with him is just low IQ and "didn't get it".
No amount of complaing about it will ever make you any more right. Whining isn't an argument. Just reaching for cope to pet your feelings. Just don't respond next time if you can't handle it kek. Lmao, I don't know why you retards waste your time whining, just to end up saying anything. It's like obviously and blatant you're trying to make yourself feel better about getting dumpstered by doing so, in which case you can just cry to yourself instead of outloud
>the game has a lot of cutscenes >the final cutscene in the game looks bland and is forgettable >what part about this is hard to understand?
Not only is this subjective and arbitrary, but is also fucking retarded and irrelevant. Like the equivalent of crying over a character in a book wearing a blue shirt instead of red. It's not YOUR story. It doesn't matter what you think or want. The way the ending was set up works substantially for what the game wants to go for, because the cutscene isn't supposed to be as substantial as the game part.
>what part about that has to be overly intellectualized and broken down?
If you can't understand it then don't engage. Don't project your ignorance as valid contention. Your lack of understanding is not my problem.
>It's simple, its a cinematic game with a lot of good looking cinematics, yet the FINAL one fails to make any kind of visual impression on you because it feels rushed.
Lol. Already addressed. Keep talking to yourself, I'll wait for you to make an actual meaningful argument that actually engages with reality or anything I said and not just your retarded subjective conception. God, what a retard. So many retards get away with the most baseless contentions on this board because it has no standard or value of discussion. Just get to say worthless shit that never has to hold itself to anything but their self referential delusion.
>The mind place sequence where Saga's own mind starts going against her is fine in theory, the part that feels like corners being cut is in the excessive amount of profiling, which is literally a cutscene just with less production value behind it.
Not really concerned with your "feelings" don't know why you keep presenting them as if they reflect anything. I can only conclude your too stupid and lacking in self awareness to realize how meaningless that is.
I'll wait for you to figure out how your argument is circular. I'll give you a hint: Read up on falsifiability.
>I can respect your autism, anon and I'm glad you love the game, I do too. I however do not see why you're so quick to assume someone is arguing in either bad faith or is a retard because they think a cinematic game could benefit from having more production value put into its final hour.
I don't understand how I'm the autistic one for this? I'm not the one making arguments that I don't like a fucking cutscene or mechanic because my FEELINGS tell me it's not right wtf. I can understand that the type of cinematic they were going for at that moment was meant to be more subdued or reserved, particularly to give substance to the mind place mechanic and how that synthesizes videogames and storytelling in a unique and almost literal manner.
>Fuck sake its pretty simple, anon. In a game with someone as choreographed as "We Sing" or the other numerous cutscenes that are really well executed and look great, why shouldn't the ending leave an impression? Legitimately why would you disagree with that?
What the fuck do you mean? The ending DID leave an impression with the final fights, and final profiling. THAT IS SUBSTANTIAL. Games shouldn't use cutscenes as crutches. Only to visually present something that would be awkward reflecting with gameplay. I don't get it. What is the problem? I'm calling you retarded and bad faith, because you're making one of the most baseless and benign complaints. It comes across as the retards constantly in Alan Wake 2 threads, who will lie and twist facts about the game to make "criticisms" that seem valid, but are so like worthless that it doesn't mean anything.
I feel like I already said this in already thread, but it's like the equivalent of how a bully criticizes a nerd, verses how a teacher might. A bully is criticizing without reasoning, purely emotionally based. He doesn't make an argument, a case. He arbitrary dubs intelligence as bad, interest in Sci fi as bad. His clothing style as bad. Because he simply doesn't like it.
Facts lmao the game is fucking genius and the twist is so far above people’s heads. The fact is that Alan is the dark presence. All the elements surrounding it originate from him. The entire story is a con release the dark presence now. Alan was lured into the subconscious darkness in the first game and now is merged with it. He can’t escape without releasing it first. He created the dark presence with his writers block because of Alice bringing him to the Lake. It’s not a loop, it’s all a spiral. Alan Wake is his own feud ex machina. The entire story is solved. The biggest mystery right now is if saga is a real person and her daughter was killed by her negligence l, or killed by wake writing her death, or saga is a fictional character that exists in a localized reality similar to what we see with Casey.
It obviously didn't and the game makes it pretty fucking obvious. >the ending needs to be dark >someone has to pay the price >it's not a loop, it's a spiral >Alice tells him he's not done and has more stuff to do >alan wakes up alone, again, in the dark place

I really like that the ending is even still debatable. I know everybody hates the ending for not being direct and conclusive. But I feel that's why we all got into the series in the first place. Because the game posed interesting questions and circumstances that would beget further questions and inquiry (from fans). The series was obviously never supposed to end at 2. Infact I'm pretty sure even from the first game we knew there were 3 books. Man this game is so good. There's no way Alan Wake 3 can up the ante no?

No not really. I was interested in the game because Remedy still had goodwill from when they made Max Payne so I had try it out. I stuck around because the setting was fun and the reality shifting metanarrative was a decent enough gimmick.
This ending just exists to nickle and dime me for DLC.

Depends on if in AW3 they find a way to sever the Dark Place from Earth forever so it can't influence reality conceptually anymore.
And Alan can find Alice and be together again in a different world.

Right?
I thought the Dark Presence is pretty much a force of nature that's always existed at the location of the lake. Wake's arrival in 2010 just sent things into overdrive.
*sigh* were still getting falseflag baiting posts. should I bother responding to them? I've already made so many arguments regarding this game that have never been countered that I already largely know I'm right before I even make the argument but...I wonder if I should anyway, since some of the superficial criticisms are new and therefore uniquely stupid.
I love the game but I got a real bad feeling it isn't selling well and they won't get to make AW3 and they'll have to half-ass a conclusion to the story in Control 3
Every youtuber is talking about the game.
More so than with Spider Man 2 or Robocop.
I think it's probably doing well.
I don't need an Alan Wake 3 though. I really like Alan Wake 2 but a lot of what I like about it is returning to a place I haven't seen in a decade.
If AW3 does happen, I don't want it to be any time soon.
I kind of want Alan Wake 3 to be set in the 60s and for us to play as Tom Zane the Poet. Which of course we find out is just a film, but we also know that he was a poet in one "reality" or another.
Blurring the lines between Alan and Tom even further, you can both claim that they are and aren't the same person right now and neither would be false. Which is why you can explore a prequel story without it necessarily even being a prequel story.
>Every youtuber is talking about the game. >More so than with Spider Man 2 or Robocop. >I think it's probably doing well.
lmao no. you obviously haven't seen the general views for those videos, and you're also forgetting the dozens of games that user to get "talked about" alot that barely sold shit. Dark Souls when it was just 1 Is an infamous example of thus phenomenon. Bloodborne too maybe, except Alan Wake 2 can't draw in the egomaniacs that need to prove themselves by beating le hard game or "solving" le subtle story by reading le item descriptions...oooh!
It's weird that anyone is talking about the game at all. On console it looks worse than a PS3 game, and on PC you need a 4090 and the willingness to use EGS just to play it.
why are people on Ganker so stupid? do I seriously have to explain the difference in storytelling between Alan Wake 2 and Dark Souls? Holy fuck. lmao. overrun with retards.
shit was kino. was so caught off guard by the fact that they actually showed you the whole movie they were alluding to at the end of that run. i stayed and watched the whole thing. bizarre as fuck but i mean that's what arthouse bullshit is supposed to be i guess.
>instead of teaming up with the cult for the big finale you team up with the FBC
I don't like how heavily tied into the main plot the crossover universe shit got. I'm fine with references, I'm fine with them being there on location but to be so heavily tied into the story was kind of lame.
The cult gets consumed by the darkness, becoming Taken, and are effectively defunct after one of the brothers gets obliterated by Scratch. I was blown away when its revealed they're on your side, but you blow through a bunch of them until the Scratch reveal
>I was blown away when its revealed they're on your side
You have to be retarded to not have seen it coming when the cult stashes make it obvious. None of these posts of yours seem genuine.
Ilmo will return in AW3.
Anyway, sort of a missed opportunity not having him come in with the remaining rallied cultists at the end to help deal with the Taken.
A lot of the game is genuinely funny
And genuinely scary (especially the first night in cauldron lake)
It was nice to play a game that actually made me feel things other than pure contempt.
The opposite. AW1 Zane was a real person who wrote himself out of reality to try and fix his mistake, but the Dark Presence fills in plot holes, and persisted with the visage of Barbara Jagger.
In AW 2 Scratch wrote himself into being Zane (since he doesn't really exist anymore) to masquerade as less antagonistic person to Alan, and used Alan to write Initiation and edit Return. It's why Zane in 2 is a movie director and not a Poet. Scratch "scratched out" the original Zane and wrote himself in as a new character, Thomas Seine, to fill in the plot hole. Seine is a play on words that alludes to the "fishing" theme that the Dark Presence has in rare instances across the two games, where it would cast a net to catch the prey in its waters, like Alan and the original Zane, to then use.
Yes. But he was sort of a warm, protective and helpful figure of light in the first game and its DLCs.
His characterization in this one is... a bit different
Im afraid the mandy may character was racist against russians and finns the wholesome family friendly gamers of Ganker can no longer morally support the game
So is this game taking place during control cause they say the oldest house is still in the dark? Also loved the game but they really should have just done one campaign with wake going full schizo mode in the dark place and get even more wild with the settings
I found sagas campaign so dull in comparison. The detective board just is a unfun gimmick that doesn’t add much. Still enjoyed overall but i’m glad I saved Wakes chapters for last.
So is the oldest house just still a shit show and no one bothered to check or did another world ending apocalypse happen in there? I’m rusty on how Control ended
Their best gear couldn't contain Scratch, so either he's too strong for them or the FBC are shitters parading around as a highly competent government agency.
>or the FBC are shitters parading around as a highly competent government agency.
Havent finished Control and its been so long, but doesnt the game basically tell you this? I vividly remember the dude forced to stare at the Fridge because no one was around to relieve his shift
We won't know until Lake House DLC releases, or we just won't know in general until Control 2 or Condor.

The biggest mystery right now is if saga is a real person and her daughter was killed by her negligence l, or killed by wake writing her death, or saga is a fictional character that exists in a localized reality similar to what we see with Casey.
I'd say the Dark Presence was always there. In every game so far Alan specifically says he can't created something out of nothing, and it's been the one rule that they've yet to break.
God, this game is fucking awesome. I was thrown off when Zane was introduced as a film auteur instead of a poet, thanks for clearing that up
In Control there's a recording of Jesse where she talks about a poem she enjoyed, and the line from it is "Beyond the Shadow you settle for, there is a miracle illuminated", she tells her therapist that it's by Thomas Zane. The Therapist tells her that she looked the poet up out of curiosity, but there is only a little-known European film maker by that name. Jesse says no, that's impossible.
Later on in Control Dr. Darling reaches the conclusion that Parautilitarians like Jesse and Wake are effectively immune to the direct influence of one another and heavily resistant to resonance life forms like the Hiss or the Dark Presence. So Jesse remembers reality as it was previous to Scratch's changing of Zane. In AW2 Cynthia Weaver also says, in her journal, that Tom was never a film maker, he was a director, and all the film making crap in the basement wasn't there before.
Furthermore, in American Nightmare, Scratch creatures snuff films to leave for Alan, and over the course of the loops realizes that he's arrived at his own artistic medium: Film, and that's why the ending takes place at a drive-in theater, he's effectively created some film that might allow the Dark Presence to escape. In AW2 that seems like it might be Yoton Yo/Nightless Night.
Both Alan Wake games and control take place around the time they were released.
It's why in control's DLC you see Alan still discussing his escape with Zane, and at the end he writes in an alert message which warns of something happening at cauldron lake several years in the future, to make sure his escape is bound to happen.
Shittiest game ever. I'm running Control at native 1440p no AA and no DLSS, sure it looks like blurshit due to the crappy Remedy engine but I'm really having fun running around empty hallways spamming my aim assisted service weapon. Anal Swab 2 ran so bad and looked so irredeemably bad I had to quit it just teeth minutes in. Seriously blurry and ugly looking game, no sharpness to it. Even TLOU 1 ported to PC looks and runs better ffs
a bit sad that the the guy who kept clowning you by calling you every other authors name he could think of in the first game went out like this. he was kind of a funny asshole the way he dogged you in the first game.
It wasn't even completely his fault, he got mindfucked by nightmares, just like his partner and alan did at the start of the first game. And ultimately, him acting like an asshole was part of the script.
The most insane comments about aw2: >sweet baby inc >naggers in a game = no buy, except every other AAA game has them >the game itself is racist >movie game because devs need to be banned from making narrative experience focuses titles >game is unoptimized because did you not see that recommended specs chart, and no I wont look at bechmarks made by reviewers >game looks bad because rt is a feature and I own a 1070
I have and again I don't see what's impressive about when you could get the same effect with reflections
The RT to me seems to solve my long standing issues with corner lights / shadows technically not being there if you aren't directly looking at it. But I don't think it's worth the performance cost. I'm pretty sure there are better ways to mimic it and not have to take a huge his to framerate.
The revelation that this was just Scratch exploiting Saga's insecurities and anxieties and exaggerating them made me laugh out loud. All the crying over something so juvenile is pathetic.
She's not anti white retard. She's a victim of her race. Black people are racist as fuck, some subconsciously. That's what bubbled to the surface. It wasn't her consciously being racist. Most human beings have subconscious biases.
She's not anti white retard. She's a victim of her race. Black people are racist as fuck, some subconsciously. That's what bubbled to the surface. It wasn't her consciously being racist. Most human beings have subconscious biases.
I'm not far from it, I think. It's the chapter following the glownaggers arrival aka FBC abduction of Alan and taking over the case from Saga and Casey
Lmao it actually is this fucker, the autist who actually types out sighs when people disagree with him. about why the game isn't a perfect 10000/10000 masterpiece.
It's one of my top 3, maybe top 2. I think pic related edges it out. But yeah this dude is fucking annoying.
It could have been my favorite if not for saga's dogshit VA and her poorly implemented mind place. Really, Saga dragged the entire experience down for me. I hated her actress and I ended up reaching a point where I got sick of hearing her voice. hearing her groan when doing puzzles and mind place stuff just got really aggravating. And she did a terrible job at keeping her accent, she kept dropping the Americanization of English every time she spoke.
I loved all of Alan's stuff, but I couldn't stand saga by the end of it.
I thought Jesse was alright, though definitely on the bland side. But I didn't dislike her like I disliked Saga. I seriously got sick of her by the end of the game.
Yes, more shitty multiverse stuff. The guy is the same actor as the MC from Quantum Break, and he talks about having dreams where he's other people in other places, one of them likely being the world of Quantum Break.
Is there a lore reason for OG Sheriff Breaker just disappearing?
She went to work for the FBI or something is what I read on the wikia but it's so unsatisfying.
Probably just a reference to Twin Peaks season 3 and the Sheriff from the original run being gone for whatever reason, and a family member of his taking over.
Tim says that he moved to Bright Falls to investigate Door, and while he was there the OG Breaker "went off to join the Feds", with the implication being that she left to join the FBC, not the FBI. After she left he got voted in as Sheriff.
>Alan Wake 1 >Whole game is about saving Alice, but Alan stays in the Dark Place >Alan Wake 2 >Alice can't move on and decides to jump into the lake and return to the Dark Place. >Fast forward 10 years, Alan Wake 3 >Everybody is jumping and accepting the Bad Place (Dark/Black erased from language at that point)
Just finished this after 25 hours. Solid 8/10, not 'perfect' but it was good for the most part. The combat was simple but enjoyable for me and the sound design was top notch. Alan was nice and the game looks great. Saga was garbage though. Her sections were the worst part of the game. Her levels were too wide and empty a lot of the time, which made trekking through them seem too slow. Alan's was taller and not as wide which made everything flow a lot better. And I'm never going to defend her race-bending because it's fucking stupid and felt like a meaningless change by the end of the abrupt story finish.
There is a 4 year gap between control and AW2. Bare minimum it would be 8 years from now by that logic before AW3 comes out if they are working on Control next. Remember it took over a year just to put the AWE dlc in Control.
Beat it a few hours ago, also got this funny glitch in Saga Chapter 6 I think, this Mirrored shouldnt be following me through the town but was. I avoided her until I got to Estevez and had to kill her. Really good game. Im playing Alan Wake 1 now for old times sake.
>get to play as alan at the very end of the game in the real world >really dark, barely any ammo, enemies can kill in two shots >cauldron lake goes from a 6/10 to a 10/10 instantly
Remedy fucked up by not just making him the only playable character.
board is so retarded. why is it that even when people who like the game talk about it, they speak so shallowly about it? like how many games, seriously, can you think of when somebody is saying "wow, i liked this game haha, let me go on to list how much i hate listening to the nagger woman [insert some generic criticism about mind place, or combat, or something tangentially related to Saga again, but more subtle so you dont seem racist] everything about these threads feel so superficial except for the shadow "WAKE" memes.
I guess nobody is self aware of this though because they're either in on it. Or real fact that nobody actually cares about this game, and shitposter or not. 90% of people can barely even name why they like the game. I fucking know I'm right too because nobody will argue against it. I just wanted to lay it out so my thoughts have been actualized by putting it out there and I can look at it my own assertion from an outside observer's perspective. All I know is that I'm on to something.
say they dont like the game
STOP DOING THAT
say they like the game
YOURE DOING IT WRONG
Yes? Are you not aware of the concept of nuance, of what I'm trying to imply? Wait...is this why Ganker is so stupid and shit at discussion? The concept of nuance is GENUINELY so Alien to them that they can't actually engage with proposed discussion in depth...is this also why they call anybody that types up more than 5 sentences "autistic" and unironically do Twitter tier "I'm not reading all that lmao! I'm generic" memes? That's why you guys can only adhom and chatted behind people's backs like highschool girls...it's all a front, a posturing to hide the fact you're too stupid to engage...
It's all starting to come together... Ganker is just unfortunately too dumb and lacks the self awareness to address that reasonably. Wow. That's sad and unfortunate for discussion havers.
board is so retarded. why is it that even when people who like the game talk about it, they speak so shallowly about it? like how many games, seriously, can you think of when somebody is saying "wow, i liked this game haha, let me go on to list how much i hate listening to the nagger woman [insert some generic criticism about mind place, or combat, or something tangentially related to Saga again, but more subtle so you dont seem racist] everything about these threads feel so superficial except for the shadow "WAKE" memes.
All I know is that I'm on to something.
thank you for confirming my observations to be right. the fact that this response was even remotely displayed with zero pushback from anyone else is proof enough that this thread truly is compromised, else if anybody truly cared about discussion in here. shallow adhom retorts would be lambasted as antithetical to discussion.
good. hated this mfer. only thing he contributed was his writer's name gimmick.
honestly, the more I look back, the more I realize how bad all these side characters are and how little the actually contribute to the narrative other than maybe Barry simply because he was along for the ride often. Like I'm just now realizing how irrelevant almost every random side character was. I don't know why people are suddenly pretending like characters such as Nightingale, or the sheriff lady, or whoever the fuck, should have been back. I kind of understand Rose being back, just because she admittedly got kinda deep into the shenanigans, and her obsession with Alan ties her to him could result in new plot threads. But everyone else? Yeah. Nah. Even Barry, I'm sorry, he was fun, but there's no way he could contribute anything to the plot. He's not that fundemental. And before somebody says "but muh goofy character!!!" There's already a bunch of goofy shit in the story still, and the old gods were able to both be goofy and relevant, so Barry is just a shit character. Simple.
I don't even hate Barry. I liked him and his dumb Christmas lights, but people acting like AW2 is worse without him or doesn't make sense to mention him are the equivalent of Children that got mad because some kid in class didn't want to hear them ramble about a dream they had for 10 minutes straight.
but they did mention him in 2. he's actually constantly talking to alice after alan disappeared. checking in often, and also protecting the rights to his whole legacy behind the scenes so they don't shit up anything he wrote beside the casey flicks i think
This, + he built the Asgard nursing home, hired Rose there, and if you talk to Pat Mayne long enough during deerfest, there's a secret reveal that Barry is DLC
its a bit of a shame they cant mocap his face doing the lines for better lipsync, also he has to dub the lines in live action too so they cant shoot at his face speaking much
I hate so much that this game has no good instrumental track like Silent Hill 2 Promise (reprise) https://youtu.be/ZwLvcaDMhU8?si=nxXKppdpKgqaEbso
If it just did. I'd be able to allow Alan Wake 2 to be my GOTY soundtrack. But fuck man. I just can't vibe with too much lyrical songs, unless they're my HIGHLY specific taste, no matter how good they are (and they're honestly probably the best original tracks in modern vidya. the night springs ost is an especially banger song https://youtu.be/x2fhn8EmIqQ?si=yGCOOLf-Yy9GjtAb)
i know that's what scratch is in 2 but it makes no sense with how it's portrayed in the other games. i think mr. scratch and scratch are 2 different things
explain the difference between scratches portrayals. zane in 1 even directly says it isn't alan

Because Alan specifically tells you what happened in this game right at the end. He was slowly infested by the dark presence throughout the 13 years he was there. And when he got out he brought it with him. This is made even more obvious when the FBC documents interrogating him has him specifically mention scratch trying to consume him. He specifically states that scratch was never chasing him, he was always right there eating away at the inside so he could control his body and mind.

it's either a straight up retcon or something else is going on. zane tells alan that scratch is not him when asked directly. scratch himself in american nightmare refers to the dark presence as something seperate from him

It's canon. Alan was dumb enough to write his escape as Night Springs episode.

NTA but >everyone gives a response >it's literally the equivalent of "because it just is"
are you retards forgetting that he hugged Alice and everything? It's obviously not Canon like the whole game was, aka essentially a random spurious tech demo to test what else they could do with the Alan Wake formula. Literally none of the explanations make sense beyond "It just is because it is" at that point "canon" might aswell not mean anything because the story isn't even coherent in the first place.

wait, wasn't that ending of american nightmare literally the projector at the drive in just showing a memory of when Alan and Alice were actually happy? Why couldn't it be the dark place itself just fucking with Alan just to drive him deeper into despair when it yanks the rug out and it turns out to not be real? I don't see why it would be such a leap for it to be something to that effect.

the way mr. scratch was explained in 1 was like handwaved so fast and i thought it was implied that scratch was out in the real world wearing his face while real alan was in the lake. i thought that was the whole point of him wearing his face, he was gonna go out and be a homosexual rockstar and ruin his image while he was gone or some shit. all scratch did in 1 was give a little shit eating grin and then pass by. they never went into detail who the fuck he was or what his deal was at all

The combat in American Nightmare is actually pretty fun compared to 1 and 2
Might give it another quick run through today since it's only like 2-3 hours long
I'm in the rain, trickling down
I'm the sickness of this town
I'm the ants inside your walls
The quiet knocking on your door
It's not your story to write
Scratch out your words in the night
When the writer is in doubt
My turn to come out
I want to know what the notes/drawings mean when they allude to the bottom of cauldron lake being dull of 'machines'. A small sketch shows machinery down there too.
I think Alan successfully defeated Mr. Scratch in American Nightmare. Then he tried to reuse the idea in Return in order to give the Dark Presence a physical manifestation he could defeat, but it didnt go quite as planned.
makes the most sense to me so far. why does zane act so much like scratch now though? even down to the THEY TOLD ME I'M A PSYCHO song playing during his party scene with alan
Maybe the original Mr. Scratch is indeed Zane and it was supposed to be his way to escape, but it didnt work.
He returns and you in turn will be locked in the room.
My interpretation is that the funky suave psycho Mr Scratch was defeated in Nightmare, but the Dark Presence sometimes wears Alan's face anyway in the Dark Place so Alan refers to it as Scratch just for convenience's sake, and in this sense that funny Scratch was only an ego that got erased
You haven't seen the other threads. The shitposters just get bored of these threads because they always end up being so slow. They're not gone, they'll always be here and come back. On the matter of this: >I mean, its so unnecessary?
beyond the fact that 90% of human interaction and socialization is "unnecessary" you mistake any of these people for rational. It's just a collection of genuinely mentally ill people obsessively ruining discussion and fun for everyone else. Who knows why.
Its like every element of it is spammed to insane levels. >game releases recommended specs : billion posts about how unoptimized it is, how shit looking it is, or how studios should forget about RT and focus on physics or AI instead of so shit pc's could run it while in reality its pretty good looking, pretty well optimized title thats standard generational leap in requirements that match the new console gen >aw2 doesnt come on disc : billion posts complaining about it despite like 90% of sales being digital on consoles and pc gamers havent used discs for the past 15 years >game is funded by epic so its egs exclusive on pc : billion posts about how impossible it is to use epic game store despite it being just like any other launcher. Fuck epic for funding games #steamchadforlyfe. 30% of all pc sales revenue and most profits have to go directly to gabens bank account or riot >saga anderson is played by a half black actor and her parents are a white swedish mom and a supernatural black guy in game : death to all naggers race war now. Like okay thats reasonable. >game is narrative focused : all games ever made should be gameplay focused or IM GOING TO GET BORED. Also no I wont eat my Adderall it tastes funny.
Journos jerked it off too much. People pirated it. Turns out it was just okay. Anons got bored. Moved on, slop like this doesn't even deserve the effort.
Saga getting Blackfied and complaining about whites at the end of the game. That was it, though it was stupid. And nothing implies they're gone for good.
Jesus this game is so convoluted. What's all this time travel shit with parallel dimensions? Why is Alan Wake simultaneously Mr Scratch, old Scratch and Aslam Zane? What's with gods like Ahti and Odin and Thor just lying around doing nothing? They should have done something like Mr Wednesday here.
I'm using a 3060ti dood
no rtx, medium graphics native 1440p
Funny, people said Control ran like shit. Also AW2 uses better rendering techniques and has software level raytracing on at all times.
Ah forced rtx effects even if rtx itself is off? That'd explain the performance hit. I deliberately put off playing control when it came out because I wanted the smooth stutter free experience, I guess I'll pick up Alan Wake 2 when rtx 5000 comes out.
that's because lance was supposed to play warlin door. it's fairly obvious when in the credits the have a send off for him. makes no sense to include that if he weren't involved in the project on some level.
ANONS HELP
IS THE GLOW APE ANNOYING OR ENDEARING AND DO I HAVE TO PLAY AS HER MORE THAN OURGUY ALAN??????????
I need to know if I should waste my medium earned dollars. I fuckin loved Alan Wake and have maximum comfy memories of playing it as a lad. That atmosphere was delicious
She's a shit character, and you play as her around 50% of the time. If you hate the idea of having to play as her, don't bother. Alan was great but she's seriously bad.
The worst I can say about her is that she's very bland. Her gameplay sections are great, the mind place is a neat gimmick, but she has no real bite and every character surrounding her is more interesting than her.
Anyone saying that she's utter shit clearly had their mind set before the game even came out.
>Anyone saying that she's utter shit clearly had their mind set before the game even came out.
This is what I was hoping was the case. I'm fine with bland as long as she doesn't vomit soi and KWEEN shit on me. It's the most I can hope for in western vidya now
it's 50/50 gameplay wise and she's also of scandanavian decent and her gimpa is one of the old gods of asgard and she communicated telepathically with them, so she's a mixed race baby with thor powers
I played you for 3 minutes, ya big gay baby
If Remedy doesn't use Max's voice actor for his face model in the remakes, then they're also big gay babies
Does it not make zoomers feel weak to adopt Black language? It's just shameful.
You're gonna be old one day and feel worse than the guys who were saying shit like Daddy-O and SMOKIN' when they were young.
Just finished. A bit disappointed by the ending. They said they would release at least two more paid DLC's.
Enjoyed it quite a lot overall. So many memorable sections... the elderly home, coffee world, the hotel, the cinema. That one particular boss where you had to run through the water from stepping stone to stepping stone was fucking scary.
The only part I did not like was that they hid the weapon upgrade parts in really obscure places. The weapon upgrades are quite strong, so I felt forced to scour every fucking inch of the map, which felt more like a chore sometimes.
Was able to play this on an RTX 4090 and a 4K monitor with everything cranked up to the max. Best looking game to date, especially the Dark Place. The game got quite a lot more enjoyable once I switched from controller to m+k, too.
Since Sam Lake said in that interview that he relies on the wiki for continuity I've been seeding the wiki with minor bullshit details in the hopes that some of it will make it into the DLC kek
Just beat it for the 2nd time
The whole last section with Alan after Scratch leaves his body is great and while short, the best part of the game. It even has the classic music from the first game
sometimes it can be spooky and has some jumpscares but generally it's not full on horror. If you havent' played the first one and Control watch this to get up to speed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzocqRZzyoI
>people surprised/disappointed the game didn't have a conclusive ending when both games are clearly influenced by Twin Peaks and the works of David Lynch, which also have mysteries that are never solved
It’s quite murky to me. He enters the dark place and goes into Bright Falls which is a dark place version of it, then he goes to the real writers room at the top floor of the nursing home, this is also how saga and Casey get to him.
So they’re all stuck in the dark place? Or is it an overlap?
It’s the dark place. That’s a key detail and a sacrifice Alan makes, when you play him in cauldron lake he is free, he’s back in the real world but then makes the decision to go back in to stop scratch
>Control takes place in 2019 >AW 2 takes place in 2023 >The Oldest House is STILL dark/not communicating with the outside world
What in the fuck has been going on in there for 4 years
My face when I open an alan wake 2 thread on Ganker and theres a 21 year old fat redditor virgin posting massive whiny paragraphs about how nobody else "gets" the braindead AAA mass market walking sim TPS slop like he does
There are references small references, like reusing one of the games songs. It's basically a spin off. But it has great character development for Mr. Scratch.
There are references small references, like reusing one of the games songs. It's basically a spin off. But it has great character development for Mr. Scratch.
Scratch is the darkness itself. Alan stops Scratch from invading the real world and taking his place in AN, just because Alan only destroys his physical form and he's not perma dead doesn't mean anything. Cope.
So did they originally intend to have Max Payne as Casey, but couldn't because they don't have the rights anymore? It would make sense the Remedy-verse context.
Yes. Already discussed in this thread. Max Payne and Quantum Break are IPs Remedy does not own, but they found loopholes or snuck in references to those games all the same.
I haven't played a ton yet, but I get the distinct impression the character of Scratch won't be in it much. Which is disappointing, as that guy hard carried American Nightnare for me.
Oh nice! I figures he was being set up as one of those backseat driver antagonists: always heard about but never seen. I've got even more to look forward too then.
All that's really missing then is Barry.
Sam unironically did the thing to Alan Wake that people speculated would happen to Dale Cooper
The doppelganger possessing the original's body instead of having a body of its own. Many people thought Cooper's doppelganger would be in control of his body.
I'm gonna guess the real reason for Zane being turned from a poet to a finnish film director is so Ilkka Villi could actually have a vocal role, plus make James McCaffrey play one less part so retards don't confuse Zane with Casey.
Also, while I love Ilkka visually as Alan, kind of wish Matthew Porretta just played the character entirely.
I did the chapter with Zane's movie but in order to progress I need to play as Saga. Last chapter I "played" as her was the one where youi get to control Alan for a moment before he gets abducted by the FBC. How long does the game go on for?
Hmm...no.
The things that we remember from the past are the good things that survived.
There was a lot of trash, just like now.
Just because something's new doesn't mean it's good.
It needs to go through the process of being something good to be remembered.
Its interesting how they always compare it to SH2 specifically. Not SH1 or SH3 SH5, always strictly to the game that has a remake in the making and a bunch of people are waiting for it.
Just finished it. Sitting in disbelief that I played a new Alan Wake. Hell, I'm in disbelief that Poe had her first song released in 23 years and it was in Alan Wake 2.
The real horror of this game is to see the armies of shills and bots, all working from the same one page script, making the same threads over and over again. It's like communicating with the possessed ones, who got touched by the darkness, echoing the same lines, controlled by some dark puppet master. It kinda fits the games atmosphere to be honest.
Best part of the game horror wise was the Cynthia Weaver part. Some of it felt right out of Evil Dead. Goddamn I wish that Evil Dead game wasn't online trash.
Can't help but feel like the taken were a downgrade in this game, well at least in the real world. They didn't really feel threatening, just annoying. Also, Saga had way too much resources available. My inventory and stash were basically always full. The charms also were annoying. They all took up 15 slots
>no bear taken
It was teased in the first game, and seeing the wolf made me think there'd be a variety of animal taken. I actually missed the bird taken, though they'd probably be insufferable in this game.
Yes, I know, I mean all together they'd take up 15 slots. I ended up having 12 in my inventory. The free life ones were useless except for bosses because dying isn't that big of a deal in this game.
I also want to add, I think Alan's campaign got amount of resources available to Alan correct. Saga's campaign just feels like easy mode because of all of the loot. I really feel like Remedy should rebalance it or over a harder mode with less resources. Also have charms stored in their own section. There's 15 for fuck sake and you can't discard them.
Was anyone else annoyed by the Taken in the Dark Place? I could not tell which ones were 'fake' shadows and which ones would attack you. Unless you wasted a flashlight charge to find out.
Yeah, they were annoying. I think their AI is too aggressive sometimes. There was one time in the subway where I was stuck in the safe room because they were camping the door. When I reloaded my save, they disappeared.
What the fuck were they thinking with this game. It plays like a worse version of a remake RE game or Evil Within. AW1 got repetitive but felt at least fun throughout. No crow swarms, no random objects being posseted flying at you. With all the improvements to lighting tech there's really no creative use of light to kill the taken. In fact the whole light and dark thing story wise is basically not important anymore since they are just walking around in daylight in Sagas parts.
>what were they thinking
They were thinking the narrative dictates the tone. Alan Wake was trapped 13 years in the dark place. He is fucked up. This is no longer a Stephen King novel. This is True Detective. This is Twin Peaks. An action game with this tone wouldn't be appropriate, survival horror definitely was.
>bbbut Evil Within is a survival horror game!!!!
It honestly isn't and is just an action game masquerading as a survival horror game.
ALAN WAKE, THE WRITER…
it's payne!
So was that scene teasing Max Payne 4 or was it just a draft they had for Max Payne sequels?
Who’s Max Payne? This is Detective Alex Casey, investigating a murder…
Bros I am literally Alex Casey frfr
that was one of the better parts of the game
What about Death Rally?
Should've been the mc, would be way more entertaining. Especially if he narrated his sections like Payne.
Her character sucked.
idk my standards for good black people writing are pretty low
The game kind of fell flat emotionally with her daughter imo.
>the nigress is not only a telepath but also a planeswalker
And I thought Jesse Fayden was busted
It's so obvious they're going to power creep Alice too and continue to nerf Alan
How was Alan nerfed at all?
When you click space bar instead of a perfect dodge he simple moves a bit to the side
Not the mc, hell he could rewrite Alex casey and chose a nigress
Alice is cute
>continue to nerf alan
what the fuck are you talking about?
>power nerf
Considering Alan was trapped in the dark place for 13 years trying to write his escape, I'm not surprised he's weakened. Not everyone can be Dale Cooper.
FUUUUUCK HE LOOKS JUST LIKE HIM JACKET AND ALL
That’s the point. He’s Max Payne in all but name
They don't have the rights to the Max Payne IP anymore.
>he doesn't know
Im betting they used these scenes to pitch the max payne remakes to rockstar and they will reuse these new york assets in it
it was foreshadowing a later scene
I'm guessing that the 1/2 Remakes are both going to use the Sam Lake model? I liked how he appears in 2
He should only do the constipated face during bullet time. Wake 2 proves he doesn't need to mug for the character anymore.
I wonder if they will be ballsy enough to keep the comic panel cutscenes, I feel like they would filter a lot of people nowadays
The faces are prolly gonna be swappable. It'd be a huge misstep to not have all 3.
I really dig how fucking nuts he looks during this scene
audio desync issues fixed yet?
Running it on an SSD is what fixed it for me.
Do people still use HDD for vidya?
I have been (big mistake)
I'm on an SSD and it's fucked.
But enough about Silent Hill 2
Very funny anon SH is 20 years old now AW2 is a contemporary game and has no right to be this boring
I gotta say I'm not a fan of Saga's mind place. Feel like it slows things down EVEN more while not offering very much.
Its jsut looking at ugly plack beople
Her mind place was garbage. Unlike Alan's it overstays its welcome and all it's really good for is the profiling, which often just feels really fuckin stupid like when she needs to find out about something specific, so she does the psychic profiling, doesn't get the answer, then you have to just click a new card which is basically just the answer she already asked 1-2 more times until she finally gets it.
Her mind place got tiresome after a while.
I liked Alan's abilities a lot better. Changing the scenes and using the light to change the landscape.
Yeah that was kinda cool. Saga's board seemed unnecessary.
Just power through it.
I felt the same way after Cynthia. Alan's portions get better later on. The gameplay never does but some of the silly stiff Remedy pulls off is worth trudging through the game.
that champion of light song pretty much cemented that white people in games have no concept of rhythm
literally me
me and the boys
looking for BEANZ!!!!
It's Wake! whack him!
I'm tired
why doesn't this game have any kino instrumentals? like Max Payne menu theme, or Silent hill promise (reprise): https://youtu.be/ZwLvcaDMhU8?si=nxXKppdpKgqaEbso
or fuck it, even the first game: https://youtu.be/nI24_67SDn4?si=sEYIKrCvA5zEuBtt
wtf man, the vocalist music is high qual, but I need some hard instrumental shit
It's like with Control, idk why petri alanko does this
Alan Wake 1 was special and I will forever cherish it
The tone of this game is entirely different from the first, only does it become similar to the first for a brief part near the end.
"your friends will meet him when you are gone" well ok but the game doesnt do anything with that phrase because all of alan's friends are not in the game, so it doesnt matter there are no stakes no reason to open all the boxes and drop 20 hours in the game cause strong black female shoot alan no matter what you do no choice no player agency.
>it doesnt even have cute autistic quirky characters
You take that back
I know who this is!
What are you talking about? The game constantly shifts between quirky and serious.
Isn't that right Ilmo?
I might be autistic because I didn't even realize both brothers are played by the same guy.
It's harder to tell with the game models. I didn't realize it until like the 2nd to last commercial.
I take it that it shows how the world at large has been corrupted by the Dark Presence in the intervening 13 years.
The first one was like an homage to Twin Peaks seasons 1 and 2, and Stephen King stuff (not always successful, but that's what it attempted).
Yet another Twin Peaks s3 parallel.
>no Barry
>no Driving
>no different type of flashlight
>minimap showing items and the corridors you have to walk through
soulless garbage
I've been watching! I've been waiting in the shadows
I can fix her.
best character in the game
that was a little disappointing but the reveal was sick
If this post ends in 7 Logan is canonically dead.
yeee
nice fuck that little shit
The forced Mind Space section was fucking awful. I also hate how the profiles are cool and well acted, but then she has to explain what they just said like I'm 5.
It’s not a loop, it’s a…______
PAIN IN THE BUTT
I hope we don't have to wait 13 years to see Sheriff Tim(e) Breaker meet up with Jesse.
But I don't care at the end of the day since I know my perspective is robust and justified and if the only argument anyone can offer is an adhom (aka a non argument) then they had nothing to offer in the first place.
adieu
The Alan Wake schizo posts again
Ignore the autist. The retard contributes nothig to the thread.
the game has a lot of cutscenes
the final cutscene in the game looks bland and is forgettable
what part about this is hard to understand? what part about that has to be overly intellectualized and broken down?
It's like obviously and blatant you're trying to make yourself feel better about getting dumpstered by doing so, in which case you can just cry to yourself instead of outloud
>the game has a lot of cutscenes
>the final cutscene in the game looks bland and is forgettable
>what part about this is hard to understand?
Because he simply doesn't like it.
>and gameplay/interactivity
ahahahahaha
I hope the Bullet of Light worked
It obviously didn't and the game makes it pretty fucking obvious.
>the ending needs to be dark
>someone has to pay the price
>it's not a loop, it's a spiral
>Alice tells him he's not done and has more stuff to do
>alan wakes up alone, again, in the dark place
I thought Alice popping up at the very end made it clear the bullet worked
It did something but it didn't just magically make everything go back to normal. Alan, and a bunch of other people, are now trapped in the dark place.
Why have sequels if the the last or final game will be the same Save Alice/Get out of the Dark Place as it was from the fucking first game? Books have progression and important events, repetition is for comic books.
well that IS still alan's goal. and the game makes it clear that alice has been nudging alan along from within the dark place.
>Alan wakes up again, alone in the dark place
I don’t have the webm, but the new game+ ending got leaked, and it shows that Alan wakes up a few seconds after Saga shoots him, and that Alan, Saga, and Casey are still together in Alan’s writer room
is it new game+ or leaked dlc shit? nothing is clear.
The dataminer anon explicitly said it was NG+ ending IIRC
so newgame+ is dlc? fuuuuuuuuck all that shit. i guess i should keep the game installed a bit longer
>see Alice take her life because of Scratch's torment
>Alan distraught because he thinks Alice believed it was Alan the whole time
>turns out it was him the whole time
Right?
I thought the Dark Presence is pretty much a force of nature that's always existed at the location of the lake. Wake's arrival in 2010 just sent things into overdrive.
The entire concert and Scratch containment felt horribly undercooked too tbh.
The concert was rad but yeah the Scratch fight was a wet fart, had the basic Taken moveset youve been dodging since minute 10
It doesn’t sit right with me that Alan has no emotional reaction when he finds out that Alice killed herself
He does, just in the cutscene.
Yup should have a fucking breakdown
*sigh* were still getting falseflag baiting posts. should I bother responding to them? I've already made so many arguments regarding this game that have never been countered that I already largely know I'm right before I even make the argument but...I wonder if I should anyway, since some of the superficial criticisms are new and therefore uniquely stupid.
SAM LAKE FUCKING WON
Ha ha so funby le game face that noone even knows about unless theyre 30 to 40 years old ha ha epic meme friend!
Bloodborne too maybe, except Alan Wake 2 can't draw in the egomaniacs that need to prove themselves by beating le hard game or "solving" le subtle story by reading le item descriptions...oooh!
>suddenly starts ranting about bloodborne and dark souls
You have brain problems anon. See a doctor.
It's weird that anyone is talking about the game at all. On console it looks worse than a PS3 game, and on PC you need a 4090 and the willingness to use EGS just to play it.
>"solving" le subtle story by reading le item descriptions
???
This is exactly what you do in the game, lol
why are people on Ganker so stupid? do I seriously have to explain the difference in storytelling between Alan Wake 2 and Dark Souls? Holy fuck. lmao. overrun with retards.
The only one that's actually talking about this is DF and they're paid by Nvidia to shill anything that makes people want to upgrade their GPUs.
AW2 has horrid engagement metrics so far across the board.
Fuck it's already been over a week and they STILL haven't gloated about their sales.
wake me up inside. I can't wake up!
Nightless Night chads how we feeling
Confused. Like I did the entire game.
Sam Lake’s acting wasn’t that bad when he was actually speaking Finnish
shit was kino. was so caught off guard by the fact that they actually showed you the whole movie they were alluding to at the end of that run. i stayed and watched the whole thing. bizarre as fuck but i mean that's what arthouse bullshit is supposed to be i guess.
ABSOLUTE KINO
KINO
ITS SO CATCHY
I miss these niggas like you wouldn't believe
>instead of teaming up with the cult for the big finale you team up with the FBC
I don't like how heavily tied into the main plot the crossover universe shit got. I'm fine with references, I'm fine with them being there on location but to be so heavily tied into the story was kind of lame.
The cult gets consumed by the darkness, becoming Taken, and are effectively defunct after one of the brothers gets obliterated by Scratch. I was blown away when its revealed they're on your side, but you blow through a bunch of them until the Scratch reveal
>I was blown away when its revealed they're on your side
You have to be retarded to not have seen it coming when the cult stashes make it obvious. None of these posts of yours seem genuine.
>the Deer Fest commercial
Feels Fucking Bad
Ilmo will return in AW3.
Anyway, sort of a missed opportunity not having him come in with the remaining rallied cultists at the end to help deal with the Taken.
>commercials are genuinely funny
how DID they do it, Gankerros?
A lot of the game is genuinely funny
And genuinely scary (especially the first night in cauldron lake)
It was nice to play a game that actually made me feel things other than pure contempt.
I had to look these guys up afterwards, they were amazinf
Ragnar?
yes, Peter frsnzen plays ilmo amd jaakko
i should've played the first game again, im so fucking lost
was zane in the first game?
>was zane in the first game?
yes
Yes, Thomas Zane was only seen in the diving suit in the dream sequences
He's more of a mystical figure than the David Bowie-esq weirdo he is in 2.
But the Thomas Zane in 1 is a fictional creation of the Thomas Zane in AW2
how do we know anything happened
God, this game is fucking awesome. I was thrown off when Zane was introduced as a film auteur instead of a poet, thanks for clearing that up
Completely different representation. They may as well have made Zane in AW2 another character.
He was the diver, basically an avatar of light at that time.
Nah. I found playing too much of Alan's campaign got exhausting and I'm glad I had the chance to switch back to the real world.
I found sagas campaign so dull in comparison. The detective board just is a unfun gimmick that doesn’t add much. Still enjoyed overall but i’m glad I saved Wakes chapters for last.
you can just ignore the detective board most of the time btw
I know but seems like a wasted opportunity
no, Control takes place in 2019 when it was released and AW2 in 2023
So is the oldest house just still a shit show and no one bothered to check or did another world ending apocalypse happen in there? I’m rusty on how Control ended
Their best gear couldn't contain Scratch, so either he's too strong for them or the FBC are shitters parading around as a highly competent government agency.
>or the FBC are shitters parading around as a highly competent government agency.
Havent finished Control and its been so long, but doesnt the game basically tell you this? I vividly remember the dude forced to stare at the Fridge because no one was around to relieve his shift
We won't know until Lake House DLC releases, or we just won't know in general until Control 2 or Condor.
I'd say the Dark Presence was always there. In every game so far Alan specifically says he can't created something out of nothing, and it's been the one rule that they've yet to break.
Do you see the black bitch pussy? If no I'm not playing this game
No but you do see ick on eck's hairy penis which looks fine ngl
I have a thing for dicks just like that one, especially love all the pubic hair.
if he was alive, I'd suck that thing.
Poor Nightingale deserved better
a bit sad that the the guy who kept clowning you by calling you every other authors name he could think of in the first game went out like this. he was kind of a funny asshole the way he dogged you in the first game.
It wasn't even completely his fault, he got mindfucked by nightmares, just like his partner and alan did at the start of the first game. And ultimately, him acting like an asshole was part of the script.
Remedy too busy with Sweetbaby to design good looking visuals without RTX crutch or baked in TAA
this place is so unbelievably mentally ill.
Holy shit
The most insane comments about aw2:
>sweet baby inc
>naggers in a game = no buy, except every other AAA game has them
>the game itself is racist
>movie game because devs need to be banned from making narrative experience focuses titles
>game is unoptimized because did you not see that recommended specs chart, and no I wont look at bechmarks made by reviewers
>game looks bad because rt is a feature and I own a 1070
>no classic Alan costume as an unlockable
shame
Rose loves her Alan shrines.
I own a 4070 card and even then to me ray tracing is a gimmick for the time like physx was on the older cards
Try enabling rt and move around different areas
it looks clearly much better, tho you might want to turn some settings down and keep rt options at low
I have and again I don't see what's impressive about when you could get the same effect with reflections
The RT to me seems to solve my long standing issues with corner lights / shadows technically not being there if you aren't directly looking at it. But I don't think it's worth the performance cost. I'm pretty sure there are better ways to mimic it and not have to take a huge his to framerate.
>the game itself is racist
yes
The revelation that this was just Scratch exploiting Saga's insecurities and anxieties and exaggerating them made me laugh out loud. All the crying over something so juvenile is pathetic.
>Saga's insecurities and anxieties
So she's an anti-white racist?
No, Other Saga was you brainlet.
So basically she's an anti-white racist?
She's not anti white retard. She's a victim of her race. Black people are racist as fuck, some subconsciously. That's what bubbled to the surface. It wasn't her consciously being racist. Most human beings have subconscious biases.
>evil twin is racist, that makes good twin racist too!
where do you find the alan sketches in-game?
valhalla nursing home
I'm not far from it, I think. It's the chapter following the glownaggers arrival aka FBC abduction of Alan and taking over the case from Saga and Casey
Rose's Wake shrine in the first floor of the nursing home.
They're good at making games with comfy autumnal settings. Alan Wake 2 and Quantum Break.
What's your favorite Alex Casey quote from AW2?
>“I tried to turn to the camera, break the 4th wall, but I didn’t know where to look.”
>0 driving sections
>not even a Forza tie in
shit game
ALAN WAKE
Im surprised Sam Lake didnt just play everyone in the game even alan considering he likes to jack off and ejaculate into his own mouth .
my main issue kek
I liked Sam being in the game.
Of course you did Sam, you love your stupid fucking meme face
Lmao it actually is this fucker, the autist who actually types out sighs when people disagree with him. about why the game isn't a perfect 10000/10000 masterpiece.
It's like talking to a brickwall. The game could be one of your goty contenders and if you don't 100% fellate it he'll still sperg out.
Same problem with Jesse. Sam Lake is shit at female main characters.
I thought Jesse was alright, though definitely on the bland side. But I didn't dislike her like I disliked Saga. I seriously got sick of her by the end of the game.
If Jesse had her own Mind Place you'd hate her just as much too. Remedy should just stick to dudes.
Well thankfully that didn't happen, so I didn't. And Courtney Hope is a much better actress and VA than whoever the fuck Remedy got for Saga in AW2.
She has no character. She's just so bland. And she only exists to reiterate what happened in the first game
Is there a lore reason for the new Sheriff Breaker having the same face as Quantum Break's protag
Yes, more shitty multiverse stuff. The guy is the same actor as the MC from Quantum Break, and he talks about having dreams where he's other people in other places, one of them likely being the world of Quantum Break.
He's an alternate version of Jack Joyce. Tim Breaker is an obvious allusion to Time Breaker.
I genuinely think she got replaced so they could use her last name as a pun for the Quantum Break actor
see
Silent Wake 2
I get why people don't like it but I thought it fit aesthetically with the game
Add unnecessary tool tips and EGS achievement notification and it would be golden.
...
>game forcing me to do algebra
It's a high school dropout filter
No, it's the "hasn't needed to do math in over a decade" filter.
why do Alan's eyes look more greenish in the pic you posted? I thought he had bright blue ones
just do the math lol what are you a woman
Ive no idea how so I had to guess a number and see what the result was and slowly get to the answer
>B1 is 736
>B2 is 496
>B3 is 368
Am I right, bros?
My calculation was to do
>1600 - 128 / 2 / 2 + 128.
Can someone explain why the FBI backup didn't arrive? Casey calls them in the beginning.
I forgot about that, but I guess it got intercepted by the FBC because they show up shortly after words.
You know what we must do, Jaakko
>Alan Wake 1
>Whole game is about saving Alice, but Alan stays in the Dark Place
>Alan Wake 2
>Alice can't move on and decides to jump into the lake and return to the Dark Place.
>Fast forward 10 years, Alan Wake 3
>Everybody is jumping and accepting the Bad Place (Dark/Black erased from language at that point)
>haha, in order to beat the dark presence we all need to go to the dark place
He won.
Mr Scratch's theme is so fucking edgy I love it. it sounds like a rap battle song.
Also did Mr Scratch die in the end of 2? I couldn't tell.
No, he raped Audrey and threw up creamed corn, but he's alright
no. when alan/scratch went into the containment unit, it sperged out and broke the whole thing, escaping
nah he shat himself out of casey and jumped into alan's head. that's when they shot him with the light bringer
Alan created Scratch himself. Alan is Scratch. Everything Scratch does was written by Alan.
But Alan still calls Scratch Scratch when he possesses Casey
That's how the story goes.
I bet that once Alan finishes writing he starts being an actor for the story.
Mr. Scratch died in American Nightmare, this time it was dark presence ass probing Alan.
So Alan Wake is the history of how everything is his fault???
Reminds me of Mortal Kombat with Raiden
Just finished this after 25 hours. Solid 8/10, not 'perfect' but it was good for the most part. The combat was simple but enjoyable for me and the sound design was top notch. Alan was nice and the game looks great. Saga was garbage though. Her sections were the worst part of the game. Her levels were too wide and empty a lot of the time, which made trekking through them seem too slow. Alan's was taller and not as wide which made everything flow a lot better. And I'm never going to defend her race-bending because it's fucking stupid and felt like a meaningless change by the end of the abrupt story finish.
What the fuck is Ahti?
t. Only played a couple hours of Control
He's a janitor, down to the deepest and oldest meanings of the words. That's all we know.
THATS ALL WE KNOW RICK
Can't play the game for more than 1 hour at the time.
It's so boring.
Can you imagine these people sitting down in school and learning math or something without constantly taking out their phone
I hope AW2 was a success, that way maybe we don't have to wait 10+ years for the next one. If it wasn't, I don't think we'll ever get another one.
You're gonna wait at the very minimum 5 years because of control 2 and their side games.
I'm fine with waiting 5 years for Alan Wake 3.
As long as Control 2 has more lore and tie-ins to Alan's story.
It definitely will, seeing as the second dlc we're getting is basically a Control 2 teaser.
The second AW2 DLC is called The Lake House (or something like that) and its pretty much confirmed to be a Control related DLC
I was reading it's supposed to take place in the cauldron lake lodge from alan wake 1
should be kino
There is a 4 year gap between control and AW2. Bare minimum it would be 8 years from now by that logic before AW3 comes out if they are working on Control next. Remember it took over a year just to put the AWE dlc in Control.
Beat it a few hours ago, also got this funny glitch in Saga Chapter 6 I think, this Mirrored shouldnt be following me through the town but was. I avoided her until I got to Estevez and had to kill her. Really good game. Im playing Alan Wake 1 now for old times sake.
These enemies actually creeped me out a bit More than anything else did in the game, for sure.
Yeah they gave me huge Silent Hill 4 vibes, kind of wish there were more of them in the game though, or at least more varieties of weird Taken
Well yeah. It was the only interesting enemy in the game where Remedy actually tried.
>get to play as alan at the very end of the game in the real world
>really dark, barely any ammo, enemies can kill in two shots
>cauldron lake goes from a 6/10 to a 10/10 instantly
Remedy fucked up by not just making him the only playable character.
The first time you're in Cauldron Lake (as Saga) is like that too. Really spooky. I wish they could've kept that atmosphere going the entire game.
not to mention:
>no map access
>original song from the first game kicks back in
it was so nice, if so fucking short.
I GOT IT MULLIGAN
Alan is so sexy.
We're getting substantial DLC next year anons. We won't have to wait that long.
board is so retarded. why is it that even when people who like the game talk about it, they speak so shallowly about it? like how many games, seriously, can you think of when somebody is saying "wow, i liked this game haha, let me go on to list how much i hate listening to the nagger woman [insert some generic criticism about mind place, or combat, or something tangentially related to Saga again, but more subtle so you dont seem racist] everything about these threads feel so superficial except for the shadow "WAKE" memes.
All I know is that I'm on to something.
>people say they dont like the game
>WAAAAHHHH STOP DOING THAT
>people say they like the game
>WAAAAHHHH YOURE DOING IT WRONG
Unironically. Take your meds.
say they dont like the game
Wow. That's sad and unfortunate for discussion havers.
unironically seek help
thank you for confirming my observations to be right. the fact that this response was even remotely displayed with zero pushback from anyone else is proof enough that this thread truly is compromised, else if anybody truly cared about discussion in here. shallow adhom retorts would be lambasted as antithetical to discussion.
>NO YOU CAN'T DISLIKE THE GAME, I LIKED IT
>YOU CAN'T SAY YOU LIKED IT EITHER BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T LIKE IT LIKE I DID
Yeah, take your meds.
Poor guy never had a chance
Did he get fatter in the Dark Place?
All the "old" Taken from 2010 are bloated with water like drown victims at sea.
good. hated this mfer. only thing he contributed was his writer's name gimmick.
honestly, the more I look back, the more I realize how bad all these side characters are and how little the actually contribute to the narrative other than maybe Barry simply because he was along for the ride often.
How much did Remedy pay the actors?
They had to learn to sign and dance
Alan's actor can't even speak English
So he has to pretend to sing in a language he can't speak
Ilkka Villi speaks English just fine, but he has an accent.
Alan looks so rough and down bad here. It's actually kinda sad to see from his Alan Wake 1, look of perpetually looking annoyed and angry...to this.
To be fair, this was immediately after getting riddled with bullets by Saga
its a bit of a shame they cant mocap his face doing the lines for better lipsync, also he has to dub the lines in live action too so they cant shoot at his face speaking much
Reminder the new game plus ending was leaked.

That’s racist
it's not a lake, a sea, a loop or a spiral
its a CLIFFHANGER DLC

So why was Zane rewritten into movie director again? Did Alan do that? Because some people still remember him as a poet.
nu zane is mr. scratch
Nah. Mr. Scratch is Alan who gave up from far part of the spiral.
i know that's what scratch is in 2 but it makes no sense with how it's portrayed in the other games. i think mr. scratch and scratch are 2 different things
>I think mr scratch and scratch are different
?????
explain the difference between scratches portrayals. zane in 1 even directly says it isn't alan
Because Alan specifically tells you what happened in this game right at the end. He was slowly infested by the dark presence throughout the 13 years he was there. And when he got out he brought it with him. This is made even more obvious when the FBC documents interrogating him has him specifically mention scratch trying to consume him. He specifically states that scratch was never chasing him, he was always right there eating away at the inside so he could control his body and mind.
it's either a straight up retcon or something else is going on. zane tells alan that scratch is not him when asked directly. scratch himself in american nightmare refers to the dark presence as something seperate from him
>scratch himself in american nightmare refers to the dark presence as something seperate from him
American Nightmare is not Canon no matter how many of you pretend it is.
It's canon. Alan was dumb enough to write his escape as Night Springs episode.
he's been dealing with inhuman horrors beyond human comprehension for over a decade, give him a break
>American Nightmare ends with Alan successfully escaping
>For no reason he’s trapped again in Alan Wake 2
Because it's Night Springs episode aka Twilight Zone.
That means nothing to me. He still escaped.
NTA but
>everyone gives a response
>it's literally the equivalent of "because it just is"
are you retards forgetting that he hugged Alice and everything? It's obviously not Canon like the whole game was, aka essentially a random spurious tech demo to test what else they could do with the Alan Wake formula. Literally none of the explanations make sense beyond "It just is because it is" at that point "canon" might aswell not mean anything because the story isn't even coherent in the first place.
well considering we know alice is back in the dark place now, them having a moment together inside it makes even more sense
I almost laughed at this. (actually I just did while typing this)
>we know alice is back in the dark place now, them having a moment together inside it makes even more sense
are you retarded? does the concept of "order of events" elude you?
are YOU retarded? since when did order of events mean fucking anything inside the dark place? did you even play the game?
>are YOU retarded? since when did order of events mean fucking anything inside the dark place? did you even play the game?
substantiate that right now or have a nice day. I could not imagine genuinely being this fucking retarded holy shit.
>future use of clicker brings alan out of the dark place in the past
>alan and saga interact through overlaps at differing points in time
>didn't respond after this
lmao. i know you're here still coward.
I'll dumpster you in another thread loser once I'm done the game. I guarantee you're wrong and retarded. There's your response. Desperate whore.
>hasn't even finished the game
jesus christ almighty
wait, wasn't that ending of american nightmare literally the projector at the drive in just showing a memory of when Alan and Alice were actually happy? Why couldn't it be the dark place itself just fucking with Alan just to drive him deeper into despair when it yanks the rug out and it turns out to not be real? I don't see why it would be such a leap for it to be something to that effect.
Retard
sam lake himself said that it ended up being a failed escape attempt, and that there were probably numerous such attempts in the years he was trapped there
listen to the ending narration of american nightmare
>Are these actual events, or merely a dream? A memory? Or a glimpse of what is to come? One thing is certain: this scene takes place in another time and another place. Far, far away from Night Springs
>it's either a straight up retcon
If that's what it was, it wouldn't be the first retcon in universe.
the way mr. scratch was explained in 1 was like handwaved so fast and i thought it was implied that scratch was out in the real world wearing his face while real alan was in the lake. i thought that was the whole point of him wearing his face, he was gonna go out and be a homosexual rockstar and ruin his image while he was gone or some shit. all scratch did in 1 was give a little shit eating grin and then pass by. they never went into detail who the fuck he was or what his deal was at all
Play American nightmare. Yes, it's canon.
i mean i guess i have to, even if just for shits. i think i got it for free on egs years ago.
The combat in American Nightmare is actually pretty fun compared to 1 and 2

so is the dark presence/the shadow the most dangerous entity in the RCU universe if it got out?
I want to know what the notes/drawings mean when they allude to the bottom of cauldron lake being dull of 'machines'. A small sketch shows machinery down there too.
At least Alan is part of a trio now in the dark place. He’s got a block of wood and a happy Max Payne to keep him company
So now that the dust has settled what actually prompted the weeks long shitposting about alan wake 2
I mean, its so unnecessary?
>So now that the dust has settled
You haven't seen the other threads. The shitposters just get bored of these threads because they always end up being so slow. They're not gone, they'll always be here and come back. On the matter of this:
>I mean, its so unnecessary?
beyond the fact that 90% of human interaction and socialization is "unnecessary" you mistake any of these people for rational. It's just a collection of genuinely mentally ill people obsessively ruining discussion and fun for everyone else. Who knows why.
Its like every element of it is spammed to insane levels.
>game releases recommended specs : billion posts about how unoptimized it is, how shit looking it is, or how studios should forget about RT and focus on physics or AI instead of so shit pc's could run it while in reality its pretty good looking, pretty well optimized title thats standard generational leap in requirements that match the new console gen
>aw2 doesnt come on disc : billion posts complaining about it despite like 90% of sales being digital on consoles and pc gamers havent used discs for the past 15 years
>game is funded by epic so its egs exclusive on pc : billion posts about how impossible it is to use epic game store despite it being just like any other launcher. Fuck epic for funding games #steamchadforlyfe. 30% of all pc sales revenue and most profits have to go directly to gabens bank account or riot
>saga anderson is played by a half black actor and her parents are a white swedish mom and a supernatural black guy in game : death to all naggers race war now. Like okay thats reasonable.
>game is narrative focused : all games ever made should be gameplay focused or IM GOING TO GET BORED. Also no I wont eat my Adderall it tastes funny.
you new here anon? ever single new release is like this and has been since 2016, and to a lesser extent 2011
I mean they called RoboCop a "woke cinematic trash". What did you expect?
NTA but they do kinda play off Scratch and AW being white rage making them the same person but also two separate entities at the same time.
pathetic, kys shill
>They're not gone, they'll always be here and come back.
So the shitposters are just like the dark presence, leaking into the threads. Kino.
>So the shitposters are just like the dark presence, leaking into the threads. Kino.
fiction manifesting reality...or is it reality manifesting fiction? woah...
Journos jerked it off too much. People pirated it. Turns out it was just okay. Anons got bored. Moved on, slop like this doesn't even deserve the effort.
Last worthwhile AAA game was bg3 that released 2 months earlier. what else are they gonna talk about
Saga getting Blackfied and complaining about whites at the end of the game. That was it, though it was stupid. And nothing implies they're gone for good.
Remedy cannot make good games
I thought Jesse had been created by Alan to save him, weird that she doesn't even appears.
she briefly tries to communicate at one point. also he didn't create her, just manipulated her story to make her aware of his plight
Jesus this game is so convoluted. What's all this time travel shit with parallel dimensions? Why is Alan Wake simultaneously Mr Scratch, old Scratch and Aslam Zane? What's with gods like Ahti and Odin and Thor just lying around doing nothing? They should have done something like Mr Wednesday here.
you're spiraling anon
Why does control look ok and run great but alarm wake up 2 buzz harder runs like shit and looks ass too?
Dude
buy a new gpu
I'm using a 3060ti dood
no rtx, medium graphics native 1440p
Ah forced rtx effects even if rtx itself is off? That'd explain the performance hit. I deliberately put off playing control when it came out because I wanted the smooth stutter free experience, I guess I'll pick up Alan Wake 2 when rtx 5000 comes out.
>3000 series comes out
>instead of a 3080 he buys 3060 ti
I dont think 50xx series if gonna help you
Funny, people said Control ran like shit. Also AW2 uses better rendering techniques and has software level raytracing on at all times.
does the end of time in quantum break just being pure darkness have a connection to the dark place?
No because they don't own the rights to QB. If they did they would probably do that, though.
Martin Hatch =/= Warlin Door, also Tim Breaker has dreams of being other people (his actor is the main character in Quantum Break).
>Martin Hatch =/= Warlin Door
Could have fooled me. The way Door acts, he's got identical inflections and mannerisms to Lance Reddick.
Wait, I'm retarded. I meant ==, it's heavily implied they're the same person.
>Lance Reddick
Now I'm sad
At least Mensah is still alive.
that's because lance was supposed to play warlin door. it's fairly obvious when in the credits the have a send off for him. makes no sense to include that if he weren't involved in the project on some level.
FUCK
The worst I can say about her is that she's very bland. Her gameplay sections are great, the mind place is a neat gimmick, but she has no real bite and every character surrounding her is more interesting than her.
Anyone saying that she's utter shit clearly had their mind set before the game even came out.
>Anyone saying that she's utter shit clearly had their mind set before the game even came out.
This is what I was hoping was the case. I'm fine with bland as long as she doesn't vomit soi and KWEEN shit on me. It's the most I can hope for in western vidya now
Saga is just kind of bland
I like the story surrounding her but as a character on her own she's just kind of meh.
I never find her annoying though.
Its boring
it's 50/50 gameplay wise and she's also of scandanavian decent and her gimpa is one of the old gods of asgard and she communicated telepathically with them, so she's a mixed race baby with thor powers
alan wake is like the oldest game i have in my steam library that ive never played
You're like the oldest anon in this thread, ya big gay homosexual
no u. and i take that back, apparently i played it for atleast 90 minutes, sometime before august 15th 2013
I played you for 3 minutes, ya big gay baby
If Remedy doesn't use Max's voice actor for his face model in the remakes, then they're also big gay babies
only 3? they should call you playquick
They call my dick $icknasty and they call this thread ded
you should probably see a doctor about that. thats not good.
You're not good, ya fat peckered turkey

when is the next fotm game out?
next month duh
I moved on, and I'm glad I did
Just finished.
Since Sam Lake said in that interview that he relies on the wiki for continuity I've been seeding the wiki with minor bullshit details in the hopes that some of it will make it into the DLC kek
link the interview
timestamped
nice, keep doing God's work anon. It will make the sequel more trippy
based kek
I hope some details make it into DLCs/Alan Wake 3
Try to put Sega sanderson as Xehanort pls
Just beat it for the 2nd time
The whole last section with Alan after Scratch leaves his body is great and while short, the best part of the game. It even has the classic music from the first game
They are going all out with the remedy-verse
How scary is this game? I’m not into horror at all but the story looks interesting as fuck
not very, spoopyness is more like a theme rather than an actual emotion the devs desperately try to make the player feel
sometimes it can be spooky and has some jumpscares but generally it's not full on horror.
How come shooting Alan with a bullet of light in the real world sends him to the shadow realm?
He is still in the shadow realm when shot in the head
It’s quite murky to me. He enters the dark place and goes into Bright Falls which is a dark place version of it, then he goes to the real writers room at the top floor of the nursing home, this is also how saga and Casey get to him.
So they’re all stuck in the dark place? Or is it an overlap?
they walked through the door of the nursing home and ended up back in the dark place
Bright Falls isn't a Dark Place version, it's just reality but twisted by Scratch
It’s the dark place. That’s a key detail and a sacrifice Alan makes, when you play him in cauldron lake he is free, he’s back in the real world but then makes the decision to go back in to stop scratch
Its all a drug sequence of max payne the whole shit after loosing mona
SLEEP
ALAN SLEEP
What did Ganker think of the musical part ? I just finished the chapter and thought it was kino
SOVL overload, fucking great, constantly teetering on the verge of being cringe which made it even better.
the end of the RCU will be a dance number with all the main characters dancing the darkness away
Alan Wake 3 will just be 8 1/2 the game
They prob spent more time thinking about how to implements sams dumb musical act idea into the game more than any other part.
>ywn live in a comfy trailer park in small town america

Wake up, Samurai.
Hey, you. You're finally awake.
Link, wake up.
I would like to bring Alice Wake to the sauna to show her my pipeli if you catch my drift.
Beyond the shadow you settle for, there is a miracle illuminated...
What's the best part of Alan's campaign and why is it the hotel?
>Control takes place in 2019
>AW 2 takes place in 2023
>The Oldest House is STILL dark/not communicating with the outside world
What in the fuck has been going on in there for 4 years
Koskela commercials were legit funny. Anyone else thought so?
see
A couple jokes here and there fell flat for me, but I still found them all entertaining. Hoping Jaakko gets written back.
My face when I open an alan wake 2 thread on Ganker and theres a 21 year old fat redditor virgin posting massive whiny paragraphs about how nobody else "gets" the braindead AAA mass market walking sim TPS slop like he does
>It's not a loop;
>it's a spiral
Made me do a onions face he did it again
what's the quote gonna be in alan wake 3?
Its not AAA slop
Its AA slop
AA at best
So at what point AAA start? 200mil budget?
With current studios, 100+ million USD seems about right.
Im sure with the incredible success of aw2 remedy will get that for control 2 from some publisher
OK, but should I play AN before 2?
The campaign of American Nightmare is only 3 hours long, so do it or don't.
Not canon
But is it referred to in 2 in any way, or omitted entirely?
>alan wearing his american nightmare outfit
>balance slays the demon song in control and here
>barry getting the old gods to do a final tour
I see, thanks
There are references small references, like reusing one of the games songs. It's basically a spin off. But it has great character development for Mr. Scratch.
Then mr scratch shouldnt be in alan woke he is dead in american nightmare
Mr. Scratch is just a mask the dark presence wears. I don't think you can kill the dark presence. I think you can either just trap it or slow it down.
Max Payne and Quantum Break are IPs Remedy does not own, but they found loopholes or snuck in references to those games all the same.
the absolute state of Max Payne
More like remedy but yes
I haven't played a ton yet, but I get the distinct impression the character of Scratch won't be in it much. Which is disappointing, as that guy hard carried American Nightnare for me.
at least he's got a slapping new theme song
He's in it a lot. He's the main antagonist.
Oh nice! I figures he was being set up as one of those backseat driver antagonists: always heard about but never seen. I've got even more to look forward too then.
All that's really missing then is Barry.
>All that's really missing then is Barry.
not sure if he makes a physical appearance in-game but he does write a few e-mails to Alice
Anal Gape thread? My shitters gaping I fart and theres no noise
powerful
Sam unironically did the thing to Alan Wake that people speculated would happen to Dale Cooper
The doppelganger possessing the original's body instead of having a body of its own. Many people thought Cooper's doppelganger would be in control of his body.
>SHOW ME THE CHAMPION OF LIGHT
>I'LL SHOW YOU THE HERALD OF DARKNESS
I like the game more and more as I play it. It has genuine charm
Right? I felt like i were dancing with them at this part.
what in the fuck did nightingale do to deserve such a fate?
Alan wake is an asshole and wrote bunch of innocent people into a horror story where darkness corrupts them
He compared Alan to the notorious racist HP Lovecraft
Being an annoyance in 1 name dropping random famous writer to alan
I'm gonna guess the real reason for Zane being turned from a poet to a finnish film director is so Ilkka Villi could actually have a vocal role, plus make James McCaffrey play one less part so retards don't confuse Zane with Casey.
Also, while I love Ilkka visually as Alan, kind of wish Matthew Porretta just played the character entirely.
it was so weird seeing ilkka speak without mathews voice. they just go together so naturally
I did the chapter with Zane's movie but in order to progress I need to play as Saga. Last chapter I "played" as her was the one where youi get to control Alan for a moment before he gets abducted by the FBC. How long does the game go on for?
Not too much
Is there a way to replay certain chapters after you finish the game?
I didn't realize until later, but some of the taken in NY have Alan's face.
They use his voice, too.
OLD GOOD NEW BAD
NEW GOOD OLD BAD?
NEW GOOD OLD GOOD
enjoy things for fucks sake
Hmm...no.
The things that we remember from the past are the good things that survived.
There was a lot of trash, just like now.
Just because something's new doesn't mean it's good.
It needs to go through the process of being something good to be remembered.
just enjoy that things that you like, no matter if they are new or old. Is that such a hard concept to grasp?
You're missing the point but that's understandable.
BAD GOOD OLD NEW
NEW POO IN ME SHOE
It's not member berries when the game is a meta and about Remedy as a studio. Sam Lake shows up as himself and is almost killed by Alan.

quantum break was good
There was maybe 10minutes of actual gunplay, then just walking.
That 10 min of combat is their best tho
It was good. Its just a shame they sprinkled so little of it around the tv show and walking bits.
Do you think Sam Lake has a plan or is just making it up as he goes along?
Its interesting how they always compare it to SH2 specifically. Not SH1 or SH3 SH5, always strictly to the game that has a remake in the making and a bunch of people are waiting for it.
SH2 made by bloober hahahaha 65 metascore incoming
SH2 Remake is going to be good and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.
Just as good as The Medium?
Nah. The Medium was bad. But SH2? It's gonna be good. I can feel it.
why did saga and casey always drink coffee in sync?
There is a fat chance Casey is not real.
will there be any mods down the line? Control has a few nice ones
Control had mods? Can I have a QRD?
>Can I have a QRD?
there were a few "unlock X item" and the better RTX mod as well
Just finished it. Sitting in disbelief that I played a new Alan Wake. Hell, I'm in disbelief that Poe had her first song released in 23 years and it was in Alan Wake 2.
The Poe song is great too. Definitely my favorite chapter song
I wish Poe and Daniel had been in Alan Wake 2.
Would've made it feel like a complete experience.
The part where you had to run through the water from safepoint to safepoint was unironically the scariest part of the game for me
It was a watered down (heh) version of that Amnesia Dark Descent puzzle.
That part has been ripped off by other games as well. I'm pretty sure Half Life 2 has a section like that as well
the night section in Cauldron Lake right after nightingale was the spookiest part for me
Can't help but feel like the taken were a downgrade in this game, well at least in the real world. They didn't really feel threatening, just annoying. Also, Saga had way too much resources available. My inventory and stash were basically always full. The charms also were annoying. They all took up 15 slots
>no chainsaw taken
;-;
>no bear taken
It was teased in the first game, and seeing the wolf made me think there'd be a variety of animal taken. I actually missed the bird taken, though they'd probably be insufferable in this game.
Anon, you have to put the charms in their designated slots in order to work, which are limited to a total of 3 charms
How do you guys feel about the game using a ton of live action video for everything from cutscenes to random characters in the game?
I used to hate this kind of thing but in game visuals are so good now that the disconnect isn't as jarring as it once was.
I've always loved it to be honest. I have a soft spot for fmv point and click adventure games like Harvester and Phantasmagoria 1 and 2.
Was anyone else annoyed by the Taken in the Dark Place? I could not tell which ones were 'fake' shadows and which ones would attack you. Unless you wasted a flashlight charge to find out.
Nah but I played the entire game like a survival horror game. i.e. running past encounters unless absolutely necessary
> In fact the whole light and dark thing story wise is basically not important anymore since they are just walking around in daylight in Sagas parts.
Not really. Like it might be day time but it's during overcast days or deep in the woods where they're not being hit by direct light.
Logic wasn't really a priority with this game.
>what were they thinking
They were thinking the narrative dictates the tone. Alan Wake was trapped 13 years in the dark place. He is fucked up. This is no longer a Stephen King novel. This is True Detective. This is Twin Peaks. An action game with this tone wouldn't be appropriate, survival horror definitely was.
>bbbut Evil Within is a survival horror game!!!!
It honestly isn't and is just an action game masquerading as a survival horror game.
