So, what's the deal with this? It's apparently out next month, and I've seen zero hype and even little marketing around it. They claim it's by the developers of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, but it doesn't have anything to do with Team Ninja. Looks like it's actually the dev behind Valkyrie Elysium? I'm itching for a new action game, but this looks a bit janky, though, and it's a $60 game. Anyone know anything, or is it basically dross that's being shipped for a tax write-off or something?

It's really overcast and cold here today.
Same, but that makes it pretty comfy when you get to stay inside
This a meme or something?
What's the weather like for you today, OP?
I might get some icecream simply because I find it funny to eat some when it's freezing otuside
it looks mildly crappy but in a way that appeals to me a lot honestly. has those PS2 B game vibes
Yeah, one of the features on the Xbox store page says this, which I thought was funny because I'm like "Is that a way of trying to excuse the jank?"
I kind of feel like it's just gonna end up on Game Pass at some point, so I might just wait it out.
oh yeah, definitely not one to jump on at full price
>pic
kek, feels like a bit of both
im just glad to see oatmeal cookie is making games still
He's not on this one. He's busy with his NFT scamgame
Was it by Itagaki
It looks good. It could have been a masterpiece game if it had a better looking protag. The main heroine has weird eyes and lips.
Yeah, not a fan of the ugly protag. Not as bad as Aloy or anything, but they could have gone for a cute girl at least.
It's by the Devil's Third team and by the looks of all the footage, they learned absolutely nothing from that game's failure.
This. Looked up some gameplay a couple weeks ago and its literally just a repackaged Devil's Third, minus Itagaki. When I saw the dev playing use a console command to kill some shielded enemies that were filtering him, I knew this game was not going to be good.
The original Team Ninja split into two when Oatmeal Cookie Itagaki left.
Some followed him. These are the people that went on to make games of varying quality like Devil's Third (shit), the Samurai Jack Battle Through Time game (good) and Valkyrie Elysium (meh).
Some remained. These are the people that went on to make the more modern TN games like Nioh, Stranger of Paradise and Wo Long.
The ones that followed Itagaki are the people that are making Wanted: Dead (though Itagaki isn't involved with this dev team anymore). I'm hopeful that it'll be fun. I don't expect it to be the most polished game ever, but I expect depth to maintain my attention for a while.
Thanks for the rundown, Anon. I was behind the times on all that happening. That probably explains why DOA went to shit a little?
Anyway, I'm fine with jank and mid-tier stuff. I enjoyed Wet, for example. I guess I'm just skeptical about the price.
As long as WD is at least as good as SJ:BTT, then I'm happy.
Not my video, but a showcase on how fun the combat can be
Besides, I'm always up for supporting AA games. The recent Evil West for example was a solid experience that gave me about 30 hours of fun. Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin from a few years back ended up being a game so fun that I spent 70 hours playing it.
When it comes to the DOA situation, I have no idea. The DOA developers have always been a sub-division within Team Ninja that AFAIK consist mostly of different people than the ones that made Ninja Gaiden and Nioh and all the big action/adventure titles.
Finally, in terms of jank, I've always felt it unfair to stereotype AA games as jankfests when AAA games are often way more buggier and require months of patching and polishing before they become an acceptable state. I'm not saying you're saying this, but it's a sentiment I see very often in AA game discussions.
>They claim it's by the developers of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden
Jesus and they came up with that MC design? They need to wind the clock back.
Most Team Ninja devs remained at Tecmo. A bunch of bootlickers followed Itagaki and this and Devils Thurd was the result
The people at Team Ninja who design attractive female characters never left.
And here is their most recent attractive female character.
I like it conceptually. Not many games actually bother with a semblance of gun-kata (or just close range firearms combined with melee), and the game is so fricking shameless in how serious it's taking itself that it's kind of endearing. It could be absolutely fricking garbage if the combat and enemies don't flow well, but I like what I've seen so far, so here's hoping.
