I don't get it, why can't they get into a relationship?

Idols are some sort of modern geishas - they are supposed to be "pure" and idealised, pretty living dolls performing on stage, holding your hand at meetups, smiling and signing photos. When idol sing about finding true love, every single guy watching this is supposed to believe that she is singing about him. Breaking this illusion is like ruining everything to idol fans. Essentially living, 3D waifus.

Fun fact - ever saw that colored sticks at idol performances? When performing in groups, every idol have her own associateed colour and fans are supposed to wave the one representing their favourite idol. Fans that use two or more colours, not having favourite or switching "allegiances" are heavily frowned upon by other fans. They are really "100% serious waifu bussines".

nips had it good as far as criminal organizations go tbh. there will always be people who fall through the cracks so underbellies always exist. better to have people native to the gutter but with propriety in control of it. the problem of course is that crooks will always try to push further since why wouldn't they when they're already breaking laws? nips only fucked up in getting too comfortable with them.

yeah but while that may be more annoying it's easier to stamp them out individually than it is to remove a large parasitic criminal organization that society has left to fester. if you care to anyway. as ever it's lack of vigilance that's the issue. either path can be managed but it has to actually be managed, not just left alone.

Yakuza lost a lot of power in the late 90s/early 00s because the government cracked down on them hard. If you were yakuza you had problems even getting a cellphone, much more an apartment or opening a business.

And they've cracked down even harder since. It used to be that if you're a yakuza, you have to commit a crime to be arrested and go to jail. Now, simply being a member of a yakuza organization is in itself a criminal offense. Yakuza aren't cartels, they aren't stupid enough to start killing cops if the pressure gets put on them because they know it's a battle they ultimately won't win, so their power is getting whittling to nothing.

Parasocialness is not inherently an illness. It‘s a natural process that happens, when you consume or interact with a media personality. It‘s a faulty instinct from our tribal past being triggered. The problem is when you don’t critically examine it and create an environment, where you embrace it and encourage it in others. It‘s like a community for addicted alcoholics. which encourages you to give in to your addiction.

It is a natural reaction that very quickly turns into a mental illness when the person engaging with it is a pathetically desperate coward who lives through escapism, like most mental illnesses are extreme pathological versions of normal reactions to things, most people are mentally ill and the contents of their brain are comparable to a Wii shovelware game.

Financial benefit. In return for taking money from incredibly lonely men willingly to throw excessive amounts of cash at you for being pure, you maintain a level of purity which makes them want to throw money at you.
I'd make the argument that it's actually optimal practice since you aren't devaluing yourself by being an actual whore and you can tap out at any time when you find a partner so you could just make a ton of cash fleecing the tragic demographic then go find a partner as you get a bit older then graduate.

They can, but they'll lose their fans if they do, and if they can't keep an audience the company won't be making any money and they'll have no reason to keep them employed.
They can do whatever they want, piss off whomever, pander to whomever, but others will not be required to comply. They are not entitled to fan support and the adoration of the otakus who keep up the industry. These fans can also spend their money however they want, for whatever reason they see fit.
So if somebody does not meet the requirements to be someone people will idolize, they cannot force the market to comply, as they can't have their cake and eat it too.
This fact sends western roasties and their defenders absolutely seething, because repercussions and accountability are foreign concepts that they think should not apply to them.

The only correct takes. People who can't understand this dynamic or try to change it are absolute retards.

Nowadays It's become more acceptable for idols to have boyfriends, and otaku will still simp for them.

He's a big name actor, so while it's not impossible for him to come back (he already played Rikiya in Y3, of course), it's not too likely unless they decide they want Haruka to take center stage for a whole game again, because it wouldn't be worth bringing him back for a tiny cameo. Gaiden didn't even mention his name despite him supposedly living in the orphanage after 6.

Haruka never cared that much about being an Idol to begin with, she really only started doing it in the first place because Park threatened to get the orphanage shut down if she didn't and only continued to do it after Park's death because she felt obligated to at least go through with Park's Tokyo Dome dream

It's really the perfect example of what happens when teen girls are left unattended. It's the biggest consequence of Kiryu being an idiot and giving into the demands of a total stranger to leave his home and kids behind.

Get the double quickstep upgrade as quick as you can so you can get around the backs of enemies when they block.
If you're on PC, quickstepping is broken without a mod.
But yeah, nothing of importance really happens in 3 other than the fact Kiryu moved to Okinawa and runs an orphanage because the rest of the plot gets retconned in later entries.

He wasn't the true mastermind, Kurosawa was and he was waiting for his opportunity to show he could actually live up to what Kurosawa was leaving him, since even though both he and Morinaga were working with Kurosawa, Morinaga thought Aizawa was a little bitch who'd probably get whooped by Kiryu. Really Aizawa exists as the final boss because Kurosawa was made a sneaky sickly old man, which wouldn't make a cool final boss fight, so they needed someone that represents Kurosawa's plan that isn't Kurosawa himself that'd be able to work as that burly man final boss fight.

the final showdown of yakuza 4 is pure ludo except the police chief boss and even that works thematically

        Anonymous

        That's fine.
I prefer the way he exits stage left compared to how they handle that homosexual in Yakuza 6.

Certain characters aren't meant to rip off their shirt, show they're ripped, and secretly be the strongest fighter in the game.
Katsuragi is a schemer an OG Yakuza type, he knew the game and how to play it. He's not a brawler and shouldn't be standing toe to toe with any of the protagonists, so the fact that he doesn't do that is a GOOD thing.

Yakuza 1 did it right with Jingu as well, making him this coward running away from you the entire fight while his bodyguards fuck you up.
Meanwhile Yakuza 6's final boss was like "Really, this guy is supposed to be strong...?"

          Anonymous

Iwami is intended to be a pretender. He's not a real yakuza and his tattoo is misleading thematically. Even Kiryu openly mocks him which he usually doesn't do cause he at least respects all the other final bosses.

            Anonymous

That's fair, but the guy ends up being an actually strong boss.
I get from a game design perspective you don't want your final boss to go down in 3 hits, but the little homosexual should have been a pushover or not the final boss at all.

You don't even get a boss fight with him before he gets killed either. You go through one of the best long battles in the series with one of the best soundtracks in the series to not have a boss fight. I really thought 4 was redeeming itself in Kiryu's chapters but it dropped the ball at the end.

          Anonymous

I think it's perfectly fitting you never actually fight him because the whole point of Katsuragi's character is he never tries to get his own hands dirty, he always hides behind other people and slinks away to fight another day. So to get unceremoniously killed off in a cutscene the one time he can't get away makes sense.

This, if anything the one that doesn't make sense that you never fight him is Hamazaki. He actually did get his hands dirty throughout 3, he had to in order to keep up the secret that his entire "family" is like 3 people and he uses the Chinese for his muscle

They did Hamazaki dirty. Mofo had one of the better introductions in the game where he terrifies a Chinese chef, eats a duck head, then blows up his restaurant. I was hoping he was a badass but then he got off screened then shows back up and stabs Kiryu with a knife and that's one half of the ending.

It's because by taking down the Snake Flower Triad, you inadvertently destroy the Hamazaki Family without even knowing it. You reduced him to nothing without even knowing he existed, and he just wants to vent.

5 was particularly contrived, I still maintain the scene where Kiryu and friends beat each other up for no reason because the game just forgot to give them any leads to get to the next thread is the stupidest scene in the series RUBBER BULLETS is revealed hours after you see the shooting and doesn't take away from the cinematography of the scene.

People expect Majima and Saejima to have just known the bullets were fake despite the tech being new and both of them having never used a gun before.
Or they expect Saejima to stick around and inspect the bodies to make sure they're dead even though the police are surely already on the way.
The rubber bullets twist really suffers from "well if I was there" syndrome

Rubber bullets is dumb because they're still lethal at the range Saejima was shooting some of them from. Also it kills his character, at least to me. Him being an actual killer trying to make amends and do right is better than what it turned out to be.

It's a franchise where people tank 5 cutscene bullets and can still fight. The actual realistic lethality of guns can be handwaved at least a little bit.

It's not rule of cool, it's that RGG is not a hard-boiled realistic crime drama. It's a hypermasculine soap opera meant to string your interest and attention along in order to wind up at a wishy washy message about the Japanese legal system or the police or Alzheimers or bullying. It's also a fujo series, and anyone who says otherwise is deluding themselves.

Most people who meme on the rubber bullets never played the game, they're kids who saw memes online and ran with it.
The rubber bullets still are retarded when used later in the scene with Arai and Munakata, but I don't even care that much about that.

But the infamous 18-hit Taiga scene is ridiculed for rubber bullets when It's actually a good scene and plot point, especially because, as someone else mentioned, in the games own plot, the conspiracy is ridiculed by Munakata who immediately saw through Katsuragi's sloppy scheme and blackmailed him for life off of it.

This. Katsuragi doesn't want to fucking die and he needs his boss to not die as well, but he needs to be there at the hit and he needs to take a bullet for the boss, but it'd be real inconvenient if he died in the process. And I don't want to hear anything about, "but it was a stupid plan" because I don't know if you actually paid attention, the plan is seen as stupid within the context of the story, as in, Katsuragi and Sugiuchi's plan was bad because they were dumb and inexperienced people with more ambition than common sense. The story doesn't try to paint it as some 2000iq 4d chess mastermind plan, if saejima failed or munakata decided to investigate the case further like a good cop would have then it would've completely failed. The truth was covered up by years of corruption. You could argue it's a bit iffy how Saejima didn't know what was going on but he was young and loyal to a fault and it's explained that the rubber bullets weren't even used publicly so how the fuck would he know that they weren't real bullets and has never shot someone before. I think you can hand wave the problem because it IS stupid to create a plan where a man knocks out a room of 18 men by himself BUT it's shown within the story itself that the plan IS stupid. When Sugiuchi hands in his police report to Munakata he doesn't buy it and points out how retarded his report is, which is a complete surprise to Sugiuchi. So their plan was retarded but they got extremely lucky with how Saejima pulled off his part and how Munakata dug into the corruption rather than trying to take Sugiuchi down. It's a dumb plan in-universe that works because it succeeds due to dumb luck, not because it was a good plan.

            You laugh and do the
            >it's SUPPOSED to be retarded!
But think about every twist in this series so far and tell me it's not on some level intentional, like a cheesy musical chord in soap opera moments.

The only type of person I could imagine Haruka's minigame appeals to is someone who likes rhythm games but has barely played them. I'd think that anyone who's half decent would FC the braindead charts on a sightread, then be bored the other 15 times it forces you to play the same chart.

I liked that she died the fucking instant she was 0.00001% nice (by buying absurdly expensive clothes to show off despite being too cheap to pay people proprerly)
It was then instantly forgotten because of the trash heap new guys chapter is, where every single person in his town was a secret yakuza confidant whos lives revolved around him
Easily the worst writing in the series universally, every characters story is bad

I never got the idol haruka shit because she's unironically like a 7-8/10. Pretty, but no more so and often less so than random NPC's on the street. She's not very likeable as a person since 5 goes out of its way to make her unlikeable (she was likeable when she was like 13). She's not particularly good at singing, dancing, talking to people, selling her brand, anything, yet she gets treat like she's a major name by random people in the game almost instantly

      >She's not very likeable as a person since 5 goes out of its way to make her unlikeable
She literally spends most of the jobs appearing on TV shows and actively helping people. The public facing Haruka is absolutely likeable as a person.
      >She's not particularly good at singing, dancing
That's why Ogita and Christian were training her like mad, and she was determined to keep it up. Hell, it's why Ogita was fired: Because he couldn't get her up to the standards Park expected of him.
      >talking to people
She does. Again, the jobs and main story show she is very good at confronting people in addition to connecting with people.
      >selling her brand
Did you miss the 40+ jobs she has to do that are entirely about doing that? She goes on TV talk shows regularly and is the #1 upcoming star they bring on after the first one if I remember right, she does tons of handshake events, she does tons of dance events, and she solves random problems and meets with fans during substories.

She was so good at selling her brand that people in 6 are still supporting her despite her going full retard with a little girl being so obsessed about it it genuinely bothers her mother because she thinks Haruka is a bad influence on the girl. Hell, her songs were so popular they were in all the karaoke bars at the time.

          >She spends most of the game getting paid to act nice
Except off-stage Haruka acts the exact same as on-stage, she's just exhausted from the training Ogita/Christian put her through.
          >She got an innocent man fired by being shit at her job
Dude, Ogita did a poor job. Haruka was putting herself to the grindstone for months. As soon as Christian enters the picture and Park dies Haruka makes significant progress in everything.
          >How is she such a big star already?
Because the intro to Haruka's part is something like 6 months? A year? It's a long time for her to establish herself, she has money behind her, Park has connections to get her more time on screen, etc.

No, I'd say its one of the worst in the series. The leveling system is incredibly tedious, almost all combo endings are functionally identical, enemies spam super-armor but also weapons are everywhere and bypass this so you can just choose whether fights are RNG to stun or stunlock to death basically every time, the super mode is broken carpel tunnel syndrome

      Both Kiwamis make this mistake.
Kiwami 2 was too lazy to even put North Pink Street back into the game because in 6 that's where Little Asia is, which leads to obvious continuity error for that era of Kamurocho.
Kiwami 1 is better about it than 6 (Largely because not as much needs to be changed thanks to 0 already doing most of the effort of turning back the clock) but Kiwami 1 still has the issue of all your generic mooks on the street reusing Yakuza 0 assets, which means you're running into leather jacket homosexuals in 2005 rather than guys in hoodies with gold chains like the color gang enemies.

The laziness of the Kiwami games is why I prefer to just play the originals.

You need some kind of motivation to jump into a 10 game series because for some people it feels daunting knowing there's so many games to play. Most people don't understand it. The entire concept was that any regular girl off the street could make it given the will and a push in the right direction. A lot of westerners fail to grasp the concept for some reason, even the ones who are considered to be hardcore weebs.

The solution is extremely simple. Here it is: Make it life Final Fantasy, every game is new characters, new plot, new map. You keep the overall mechanics and themathic of making it about Japanese crime melodrama. That's it, fixed. You can have similar stories without being dragged down by the ridiculous task of keeping 10 games across 20 years making sense.

Yakuza isn't an open world game. Its tight city districts is way better than massive maps. Most of the games added new cities too.

Unfortunately they threw the compact size thing out the window with Yokohama being the size of all their previous cities put together and have only half the content of Kamurocho and apparently Hawaii is going to be 3x bigger than Yokohama.

1 is obviously the original so Kamurocho was brand new
2 adds 2 new cities (1 was removed in Kiwami)
                3 adds a new city
Kenzan takes place in an entirely different time with multiple different cities
                4 expands Kamurocho a ton
5 adds 3 new cities and other small locations too
Ishin takes place in an entirely different time with a different city
0 completely remakes 2 of the main cities for the 80s time period
                6 adds a new city
7 adds a new city bigger than all the others combined
Lost Judgment added a massive expansion with the school
                Gaiden adds new areas
8 adds a new city bigger than all the others combined
Just because they reuse one of the locations over and over again doesn't make it bad. It's neat to see it evolve and it's central to the plot.

They're budget games. The fact that anyone considers them more than budget games is astonishing. Senran Kagura reuses like half of its maps. Kamen Rider Battride War literally reuses 80% of its content between each game and very minorly improved on player movesets each time.

Picture related was what Japanese sales were like, and 0 only got big in the west around when 6 was coming out in Japan ending on FotNS's first two weeks of sales.

They've only just recently said they started wanting 2-3 million sales which is why we've started seeing stuff like Yokohama and Hawaii being so big, and 8 getting so much stuff and marketing surrounding it. Even then there is zero chance this is anything higher than an A budget series.

Retard. I literally told him to take breaks in-between. I know exactly what he's going through because I went through it myself. You need some kind of motivation to jump into a 10 game series because for some people it feels daunting knowing there's so many games to play. "Just play when you feel like it" isn't as easy for everyone as it sounds.

yeah I got a bad case of burnout trying to go through them back-to-back, I never ended up finishing them. my brother though enjoyed watching me play what I managed to play and then he picked up where I left off, kinda weird but I ended up being essentially being the fag who enjoys something without experiencing it myself.

I did play Judgment recently though. It was ok.

I played 0 first, but 4 is my favorite. I tried replaying 0 for a Legend run and it's just such a slog compared to 4 (and 3 for that matter).
4 has really good story pacing (I don't care that the plot makes no sense, it's cool and fun) and the multiple character thing works a lot better than it does in 5 or 0 because they're all in the same city and cross paths constantly.

    >game expects me to feel sorry for her when she dies because she was nice to Haruka once
It's really funny that every interaction with Mirei is her being a complete and utter bitch but then they tried to shoehorn a mother/daughter relationship between her and Haruka at the last second to try and make her likeable. It's like they realized everyone would cheer for her death if they didn't try to give her some redeemable trait and they couldn't have people hating her since her death is a driving point behind the plot and Haruka's motivation.

The only game you can accuse being lazy with the world map is LJ.
There's no need for the world map to be that big when 80% of the story take place in the school or outside the city. They should've made a new district around the size of Kineicho from y5.

They easily could've just used Kamurocho and had you take a taxi to the school. I hate that Yokohama was used in Lost Judgment. The fact you can take the taxi straight to the school even seems to point to it being the original idea.
It's so pointless and adding the skateboard mechanic helps, but still they had to justify moving so much from Kamurocho to Yokohama just to give it stuff to do. (Why did every major NPC move to Yokohama between the two games?)

        Anonymous

Because they still need you to be able to visit the school's neighbourhood. Kamurocho and Sotenbori are entertainment districts, so Ijincho is their only option if they don't wanna make a new town.

          >so Ijincho is their only option if they don't wanna make a new town.
Then they should've just used part of it.
Yokohama is way too big and empty and only makes sense in 7 because they needed a way to have difficulty zones. It was designed for the JRPG gameplay.

Should've used Nagasugai instead. Obviously they would've had to remake if for the Dragon Engine, but it's like a mini Yokohama, so they could just reuse most assets and put the school across one of the bridges. Comfy and much smaller, while still having all the space they need for the out of school stuff.

It's literary GTA: Japan but people cope with the fact that the series does not have as many features and gameplay mechanics as GTA (due to time, budget and talent) hence why "it's not identical to GTA", which misses the entire point of similarities.
Everything in GTA has seamless flow since the 3rd game, you don't need a loading screen into a mini-game to ride a car, you don't need to wait 5 seconds for the combat engine to load your random encounter, you don't need to load into a secluded area to do some shitty parkour mini-game like in LJ. Things just happen seamlessly in GTA because it was mostly designed and programmed by competent people instead of mush brain overworked japs that had to make hacky add-ons for your character to fucking jump and grab a ledge after 20 annual sequels.

I still don't understand how it's GTA. In GTA you have the freedom to play with the world. Yakuza is a story and minigame focused game. It's not open world, it doesn't have driving (outside of a minigame in 5), it doesn't allow you to fuck with random pedestrians or do anything to the world around you. It's not a crime sandbox like GTA.

If you're not in either 7 or LJ (Whichever one requires actually playing games) just go to Youtube, type in "<Game name> challenge 1 shogi" and repeat it five times. You're done with shogi. On the game that requires it for 100% just download Shogidokoro with SpearShogi and have the AI play against itself, or grab a mobile shogi app and have it play against that. The mobile app is usually faster.

And yet despite that, I still feel bad for him when he dies because of how he dies, giving his own life pointlessly to protect the woman he never stopped loving. Someone he knows still holds hate for him and he accepts that hatred because he knows he fucked up, he believes he deserves what happened, and he vowed he would not fail as a father like he did as a husband. That for all his scumbaggery there was one truly noble thing about him still in there.

    >Haruka fucking quits halfway through the set and runs away
Park must be spinning in her grave.

Plus like Park, part of what kills her career is getting knocked up as a teenager by a yakuza.

Park was 100% planning to kill herself once Haruka performed at the Tokyo Dome

      >People take Yakuza 4 too seriously.
      This
      >From the getgo you just know they only abided the rule of cool.
      But not this.

How many people here figured out Yuta was the father right away for no other reason than the fact that he was the only handsome person in the group?

I figured it out because he's voiced by the same actor as Rikiya and he's basically Rikiya 2.0, and this means that Kiryu basically gets to have Rikiya as a son

Considering how much Kiryu says he loves the orphanage and the kids and how he conviniently always as an excuse to bail out, youd think he's melanin enriched individual.

Remember Ganker, baseball is the most important and sacred sport in the universe.
Shame that minigame in 6 is so unfun to play compared to 5's batting cages.

the best part of 6 was getting into fights inside restaurants and stores

This. The best thing the Dragon Engine did was have seamless interiors.

It's a shame there's very few fights that will start indoors, you have to throw their ass through the window or run in and get them to follow you to have a fight in there

Yeah. Even 3 and 4 had that near the MEN stores even if it was a scripted thing.
I did like jumping out the window of the detective agency in Judgment instead of taking the elevator.

The best part of 6 is throwing people in combat (when it works).

        Anonymous

It usually does work, it's just that as much as people overuse the work, 6's combat is the definition of clunky, even more than 3's.
