VT 1 and 2 had one thing dark tide doesn’t - progression.
Even if 1 had RNG gear, once you had it, that was it, you could switch between any class with impugnity.
Even if it took longer to level up in 2 than it did in 1, you could still pick a new weapon and roll with it at any time

        The hamster wheel in Dt just takes the piss. To get something decent you have to either;
        1) wait for the shop to give you an item you want, hope it’s got good stats, then upgrade it and hope you continue to get good stats. You can only do this once every hour, and 9/10 you’ll find jack shit that’s worth it
        2) hope the mission reward gives you something good (it won’t)
        3) go on the mission hamster wheel (which, given the mission selector, isn’t even a guarantee) to afford a weapon that refreshes every day, which again probably won’t even be good
Now sure, you can just do malice, which can be done with a broken chair leg and harsh language, or take a gamble you won’t get kicked from heresy or above, but who the frick wants to do that?

LMAO classic Fatshark. When WoM dropped for Vermintide 2, they released to the public the shitty beta instead of the final product and then went on vacation. This. I enjoyed Vermintide 2, but they fricked up massively. I wasn't going to buy this Darktide until they released a stable, flawless version that felt finished and fleshed out.

I actually enjoyed Vermintide 2 on release. It was a buggy mess, but I liked the campaign, the different weapons and the crafting. Also, it ran smooth on my pc. Of course I expected Darktide to be messy on release, but it came worse in all aspects and incomplete too.

VT2 was messing and really frustrating at times but I still remember it mostly with fond feelings.

It helps that in VT2, you could use almost whatever weapon you felt like (since the 1h axe and both 2h sword variants were shit on legend) and craft it easily, so even with one levelled character, you could have plenty of play variety.
There’s also the fact that VT2 was a hell of a lot more forgiving at launch, given the lack of ranged attackers outside specials, meaning that clan asstabber could be countered by being paranoid with blocking, and a ninja patrol, while difficult, could be handled.
To contrast, even a few ranged units popping in can yank your stamina and some health and there’s jack shit you can do about it, and a reaper/gunner teleporting behind you at a bad time means you’re probably fricked.

There are some jobs you literally cannot trust to pajeets. Simply because pajeets are moronic and some standards are too high.
I work in compliance, in a sector that is very closely monitored by the government, any issues that occur or malpractice gets us hit by huge fines. You simply cannot trust these sorts of tasks to pajeets.
In general, most companies that neccesitate having IT or a call centre are moving back away from pajeets/abroad work because while its cheaper, the work they provide is absolutely horrendous and has unironically caused some companies to fail because issues a competent IT team in the area can fix become issues that lose entire weeks of work.

Weapon upgrading is endgame. Functionally, It was in vt1 anyway.

          >People are calling the game unfinished with one bit of craft left
Thats you falling for Fatshark changing the goalposts until "its just crafting lol". We are still missing proper weapon customisation (which is likely never coming), classes having actual skill trees that arent near meaningless or obvious (or broken in the case of zealot lmao). Subclasses in general are just straight up missing.
Youre correct that a single patch cant possibly fix everything that is clearly missing from the game though.

Other then occasional story drops I don't see what we're missing other then whatever the frick flash missions are supposed to be.
Did they promise more missions or something?

            Anonymous

            >Did they promise more missions or something?
Its difficult here. Because they technically delivered on their promise of 14 missions. But the issue is that theres 4/5 maps and combined with the way mission select works, you can genuinely have game sessions where you have to play the same map over and over (with slight changes in the route you take like some roads being blocked or going backwards)
Outside of the stuff I mentioned previously. The game would feel a lot better if the weapons were a bit more balanced, and you could choose their perks/blessings so you could change it up a bit on damnation, and there were more maps and you could select which ones to do properly instead of the fricking stupid map screen.
Modifiers could also be much better implemented, and its hilarious they are so broken that we are stuck with dogs for weeks and weeks when its by far the worst modifier.
Outside of that, enemy spawning is broken, will appear on top of you, and some areas cause infinite looping for 4 elites spawning, trapping you in the area, and then because you couldnt move on, they spawn again and come again. Enemies make no sense difficulty wise. The most difficult enemy in the game by far is a dozen autorifle weilding scrubs more than 10 metres away, as they run away and refuse to melee.

I won't think you're not getting subclasses this time around, they're going to release premium classes from the get go like in vt2

I got a good 100 hours out of it. Its a real shame because the core gameplay and feel is actually really good (I was not expecting gunplay to be as good as it is, especially from a franchise where ranged weapons took a huge backseat to melee in VT). But its clear a ton of stuff is 10 steps back from Vermintide 2 and seemingly for no reason.
The game is pretty, and has a solid core, but there is nothing else there. Its like a building made of paper on a foundation of concrete. It doesnt make any sense.

Couple that with updates being so slow, and core mechanics still not being implemented and its just dissapointing. Havent opened the game in over a week now. Ideally in a couple of years there will be enough maps and new skills on characters to have a better gameplay loop. But right now if you "play for the gameplay" within a single 3 hour play session you'll have played the same map 10 times

What other industry can constanly release broken products without consequences?

Literaly none. Movie and Music industries -the two closets that can be compared- release shitty products, but fully finished. Any other sector would have to do callbacks, returns and refunds instantly to avoid getting sued to oblivion.

Every major comoany has a legal team that would literally jump at the chance to shut down a lawsuit by technicality or simply stating that people got what they paid for.

Combat and visuals are great, but everything else is pure aids. Gear acquisition is barely possible with you relying on online casino type of shop and "crafting". Completely forget about certain weapons and traits, as they can literally never show up for you. I've occasionally looked and can find certain weapons for three+ weeks now. Buy this game only heavily discounted, and prepare to be disappointend.

"Mixed" on its own is terrible optics for outsiders browsing the store. And their old player base is familiar with their BS and went back to VT2.

They're left with 40k diehards willing to play shit video games, which isn't insignificant but they're about to get pulled by that Rogue Trader RPG with Eldar waifus. Unless their first patch is a major overhaul player retention will be sub 5k in no time.

the two weeks of "early access" for pre-ordering was a red flag so fricking big you could see it from the ISS. they already delayed Darktide once and it's been in dev for 2 years minimum, that I know of. the launch of the game was a blatant con job, full stop. it's unreal to give away so much "early access", which they used to buy free positive reviews and make a ton of money really fast before fricking off. they've perfected the pump and dump scheme and were given all the opportunities to maximize on it (the 40k license, for instance).

This, plus their moronic dev team structure. Tww2 on release was competent but nothing special, mostly elevated by qol improvements from tww1 which was a fricking travesty on launch and never got much post Launch support.

It's pretty clear from the tutorial campaign they had much more in depth stuff originally planned but either bit off more than they could chew or had the rug pulled from them, probably both.

          Jesus Christ

It's pretty momentous, shame no one but autists on a Korean yodeling forum will notice but it's actually a good jab. Fricking Tim "Lost" Buckley hits you with a sharp and concise and fair jab. That's like losing to glass jaw Joe in punch out. That's like being a reporter and being unable to make the cup head tutorial jump. You have truly hit the bottom of "fricking goofed".

It sailed past peoples notice but they outright admitted a lot of shit got rehashed at the last fricking minute right before launch. If I had to guess, customizations and monetization all underwent huge changes in the last 6-9 months of development and it ate all the time that would've gone into polish. At the very least they admitted they gutted the entire crafting system which is why we didn't even have the anemic options we do now on release.

I got my ogryn to 30 and sunk ~60 hrs into the game. As far as I'm concerned I'm done with it, it's over, I haven't loaded it since last year. Without new content there's no point. I had my money's worth and I refuse to drop duckets on the skins despite being sorely tempted due to how awful the default ogryn cloths and unlocks are.

This is all well and good for me because I got my money worth but I can't imagine it's what fatsharks intended business model was with the $40 launch or the cash shop

They aimed at Warframe/destiny with a Warhammer coat. An MMO that feeds the whales new skins every couple of days, but how it turned out, the game is a total failure of colossal magnitude. It's a live service game without the service. There is probably no other way around it, and they won't get back the masses, let alone the warhammer whales. Who ever is gone from the game now won't come back later. They shafted the entire player base with how the game works, and even after the masses left, they won't be able to hold the die-hard fans of the tide combat. All goodwill is burned. Check back for the next wave of outrage when they ask money for their new class in a month or two. If they even release anything prior to the console release, which will also bomb.
I'd even go so far to say that owning MTX in this game is a mark of shame.

You haven't heard the stories of whales getting chased out of lobbies because of the skins they bought? Its like Fallout 76 all over again where they gave you the equivalent of a israelitestar for being a good little boy in paying the subscription fee. I'm more surprised that Brapshark hasn't started permabanning anyone caught harassing their good little piggies because the last thing you want is the freeloaders hurting the bottom line.

Anyone else feel like the ogryn is underpowered? Like he's not unusable, I can consistently beat damnation with him. However, you spend so long just juggling enemies left and right with your melee before they die. Using anything but the cleaver? PoxBlack folk take like 3 smacks each to kill. And if you're losing the cleaver all the armored elites take forever to kill. And his poor accuracy is just so fricking annoying when it comes to using the ripper/stubber. Meanwhile if I'm playing my vet I can kill two mutants with a single mag of my lazgun before they can close the gap while my Ogryn needs to land every single shot of his ripper gun to kill one at close range, and the slow fire rate means the mutant gets to juggle someone at least once.

Did they ever even fix the slot system? Originally the whole reason wall scooting worked was that rats tried to fit into one of several slots encircling the player while the rest wait their turn or try to get you with a running stab. Right away in VT2 I remember a jsat stream demonstrating that slots were fricked and mobs would just default to hyperstacking 20 deep in your face all swinging so you get blasted blocking a constant stream of incoming hits. It was fricking silly. And my recollection was that the meta kept in the direction of just constant knockdown to keep the horde from even swinging at you.

all the material Abnett wrote gets thrown out the window
Can you tell me more about that?

        Anonymous

Like I said I’m just guessing, but having established characters is the only reason to hire on someone like Abnett, since the character creation voices all have very bland conversations and backstories and the main backdrop is so generic that both could easily have been done in house then checked by GW.
It only makes sense to have a writer on board if they’ve got something for them to write, and the excepts they wrote for each character class sound to me like an artefact of pre made characters.
Now granted it could be that they also had/still have some sort of structured main campaign planned, but that just raises further questions.

      Anonymous

I bet the part we get to see in game was just the introductory chapter to a big RPG style plot.
Every proper Dark Heresy campaign needs a reason the characters become Inquisitorial agents.
It even has all the plot points that could have been awesome if fleshed out, making the player second guess himself when he's forced to do fricked up and straight up heretical shit for a senior acolyte or something.
Then that execution scene would actually feel meaningful in some way, maybe even have a negative outcome if you didn't cover your ass.

The "story" as it is now ends with your character receiving an inquisitorial rosette, which would make him a pretty big shot all things considered. So I'm sure there's supposed to (or was supposed to) be something planned for a continuation.

I certainly have hopes for a very specific scenario but it'll most likely never ever happen.

          Anonymous

Of course, but what we've seen so far just hints at new levels and a new enemy faction.
We have no clue where the story will go concerning the characters.
For all we know they just scrapped it all and decided to keep it at a status quo to keep us playing the same levels forever.

I got a brand new PC so performance isn't an issue for me. I do feel like I got the setting I wanted and enjoyed my climb to level 30. The weaponplay is fun and everything feels right. But I do think we needed more at launch since I saw things from beta that I couldn't wait to try that aren't in the game like the darkness modifier that make torches really important on your gun.

I'll probably try leveling another character to 10 atleast before putting it down but there isn't much insentive to grind if the good cosmetics are cash shop and I got a good legendary gun and sword combo and have no insentive to get the worse guns of same quality

it is fun, that’s why people are so vehement over it. they want to play it without the constant crashes and shit optimisation.

this is how you know a developer has hit rock bottom and is clawing against the ground to go even deeper: community managers privately insulting customers. genuinely feel bad for anyone who has given money to these people.

beta game plays great minus some disconnects it gets fix game plays great again.
Launch happens shit hits the wall disconnects happen again for a short while basically whole teams get disconnect reconnect have to wait for everyone to get back some get redisconnected sitting at end of level waiting for everyone finally people give up and leave one person down.
dark maps are fun but falls under no one wanting to play them cause they don't bring a flashlight attached.
demonhost would be fun if pugs were not completely moronic
some of the class weapons straight up suck and personally want more selection of weapons.
i went from playing it every day to not even looking at it for almost a month now
