Probably not. Starting with FE6 it’s almost been a completely new group of people working on the games ever since Kaga left. By Awakening there was already a divide between old guard and the young blood over making the series into a sci-fi game. Now it seems it’s mostly young blood that have only ever worked on Paper Mario and Warioware so they probably genuinely don’t even give a shit about the series anymore which is why they hired KT to work on 3Hs

I did get Engage because it had good graphics and animations, there were character designs that I liked, and the mechanics seemed like fun. Also it didn't have multiple routes.

Just beat it today. It's a fun game but the hub world can be worse than FE3H's monastery. I really didn't like the designs and thought I would get over it but that didn't really happen. Characters themselves are okay I guess, I never really got attached to anyone except Panette but that's cause she turned into my strongest character. OST was pretty forgettable, Story felt like it was for kids.
I'll probably boot it back up for the 4th wave dlc but after that I most likely won't touch it again.
It was a game that was doomed by being released after 3 Houses. 3H brought new people in who thought Fire Emblem is a serious story (even if 3H has a shit story) and that we were passed jacking it to Marth and the old games. The only references to the old games in 3H is the amiibo music and the 3 regalia which you might not even see in your playthrough.
With Engage we go back to what new fans were not interested in and what a lot of older fans are sick of. Also people aren’t interested in a game focused on getting people into a series when the previous game already did that while being more interesting to the normal person.

I have played ZTD, and while it is mostly bad, at least it's humorous. I can play that game and laugh at the absurdity of the plot reveals, character motivations, and turn of events. I don't get that at all in Conquest. If I feel like replaying that game(which I don't very often), I would skip the cutscenes 100% of the time without hesitation. The only humorous thing I can even think of is the subtitles captioning Garon in the cutscenes, those were rather chuckleworthy.

Azura shows you an orb that literally shows that Garon is a goopy monster guy but it conveniently breaks afterwards and that means we have to CONQUER AN ENTIRE NATION UNDER THE GUISE OF SAID MONSTER TO GET HIM TO SIT ON A THRONE THAT WILL MAKE EVERYONE ELSE SEE HE'S A GOOPY MONSTER. This is the dumbest shit you could possibly come up with, and you have to play three games to get their entire story. It's atrocious, anon, way worse than ZTD.
You could say the same thing about Delta who is so obviously evil they had to hide him from the player and have no one question where he went during the coin flip and have Mira and Eric never refer to Sean by his name until after Delta is revealed because otherwise everyone involved would look even more retarded than they are. I’d say it’s even worse than Garon since Fates doesn’t hide the fact that Garon is evil, the player knows this within the first 3 chapters, but if the player were to see Delta that would ruin the entire plot since you would be waiting for everyone to address the elephant in the room. Sigma and Phi spend the entire previous game training to stop the outbreak of Radical-6 and knew that the site was going to be dangerous and Akane knew because of her access to the morphogenetic field, yet their entire strategy was to just go in and see what happens. Even in the flashback of Diana and Phi together in the test site doesn’t have Phi on high alert, she’s just waiting. Having to conquer Hoshido to get Garon to sit on the chair is dumb, yes, but it at least makes sense in the story because Xander is still Garon’s bitch and the chair was established the moment it was introduced to be magical.

I thought the gameplay was stellar and the characters were good. I liked the ones I used, and the ones I didnt use I'll probably grow to like after using them in a replay. The designed and visuals were great all around. I disliked that the characters didnt have 2D portraits at all, but the models looked really good. Somehow the 3D models in engage look better than the 2D art in 3H. The story was very straightforward FE with some twits and turns as usual, a good celebration of the series. The music was great with some tracks being amazing. The final map was a combination of all the good things I listed and didn't miss a single beat.
Once you open the casualization doors, it's hard to close them, but at least this game wasnt balanced around the time crystal. They really should have disabled it on maddening.
The characters are good, the problem is that most of the earlier characters you get are among the weaker ones with samey supports, and game reviewers only reviewed up until chapter 10 when you haven't had the chance to see many, if any, A supports. Brodiagang aside from Amber are all great for one.
I feel like I played a different game when reading this to be honest. I found break to be tedious and made me believe I had to play more defensive but the game doesn’t like that as it will swarm you if you try. The smash weapons were overall garbage on majority of the characters. Found the first few chapters boring and the last few some of my least favorite in the series with the final boss being absolute garbage. Didn’t really care for any of the characters other than Mauvier but by the time he joins I just want the game to end.
For character designs I don’t think the artist work translated well to majority of the characters and I’m reminded how I like how the previous characters looked constantly with the emblems.
Music was forgettable with only two tracks that I wanted to know what they were called.
The UI also is probably the worst in the series in a good while and it’s because of the retarded idea that they can get the FEH audience who has no interest in actually playing the games.
This is the best UI FE has ever had on a single screen game. Being able to see combat related stats on the map without having to press any buttons is a miracle. But it's obviously hard to appreciate these things if someone's playing on baby mode

The overall game direction is in a much better state than it was in 3H with no retarded route split and maps going back to being unique, fun and challenging. If the game had a good story you wouldn't see nearly as many people bitching about the it since retards have been conditioned into thinking 3H had good writing. The designs are whatever but the 3D modelling and animation work is top tier. They're overdesigned; too much detail, too much color, too modern in fashion sensibilities, for the setting. It's a clear product of an artist not fit for medieval-esque fantasy. There's no restraint. And before you pull a "gotcha," yeah 3H also looked too modern at times in a different way.

The way 3H does it is fucking boring. They never go far enough with how a uniform is supposed to be someone's specific version, you get shit like Bernadetta having a hood at most, and you wouldn't even notice it if you didn't look at her backside because she never puts it up. Like that's basically the only thing I can think of right now because they do so little with the "every character has a special uniform" concept. Literally any Persona game does it way better.

The use of color is too much in that the artist deliberately avoids contrasting colors and instead uses them in ways that clash. This can be deliberate, but also reflects a very modern subculture. Characters have outfits and accessories that look absolutely ridiculous in a setting about warfare. They look like pop idols or clowns because a lot of the fashion mirrors that of jesters. I say or because there's no consistency. Many characters don't look like they belong in the same setting. It's really the modern design sensibilites that get me though, wavering between e-boita and pop idol, as I previously mentioned. It's just not good worldbuilding unless it's established somehow why this is how characters dress in a world of sword and spear warfare. Ultimately, while some of this has happened in the past, usually it's limited to a character or two.

It doesn't top Conquest, but the gameplay genuinely is really good. Maddening is a solid, but fair challenge, and the replay value is pretty great with all the ring options.

It’s GBA gameplay but busy menu work for a press X to awesome mechanic that gives pair up bonuses and a super kill attack gauge. Also it has a fake weapon triangle that prevents counterattacks for the turn. Everything they did to balance these features are dogshit and annoying like bosses having multiple health bars and endless swarms of enemies
