Just searched that google and lead me to pic related. Damn I need to play these games.
Lel nice pic
Super Goypatch Wolf is such a homosexual.
Hi Pat
whats the lore between Pat and Eyepatch
Pat asked Eyepatch to come frick Paige while he watches while they were together at a con. Eyepatch says no wtf is this cuckshit? and this makes Pat the big mad. He tries to attack Eyepatch with his two year old body and gets gently pushed which makes him fall down. Lawsuit ensues.
He's a midwit, but his old videos were decent, I guess. He peaked with his video of japanese wrestling. But his reddit humor has become unbearable for years now.
His videos are ok. But his mic quality is fricking unacceptable.
who listens to a guy who puts a voice that's on verge of crying to pretend he's really insightful when in reality he's a moron? i tried to watch his bleach video and i stopped when he claimed the team went to save rukia is like kids entering adults world because there are rules they don't understand. oh right, because that's what most people watched bleach were thinking during that arc and not because they invested in rukia character and want to see the gang succeed in rescuing her from her unjustly execution.
Holy fricking cringe, I thought people were just memeing but he's a legit cuck? I'll frick Paige in front of Pat if he wants though lol
No clue what the essay types said as I can't be arsed to read/watch those, but for my money ($100+ to the kickstarter) it is a bad game. Having not played 1 & 2 in like 15 years, I'd played the demasters right before 3 released. 1 & 2 were fun. 3 was not. Mandatory grinding, mandatory gambling, Ryo getting hard-nerfed, the towns/world somehow felt smaller, Shenhua's awful redesign and va change, and pretty bad pacing on the lead up to the end made it a real stinker.
Pretty much my feelings on it as well. It's like we threw away any character progress from 1&2 so we could start over in 3. A single thug stonewalls us for so fricking long as we try to learn a -SINGLE- attack that somehow is going to change this fight in our favor. You jump into so many hoops to learn who has the attack, getting them to teach you the attack, and then at last training to make use of the attack....and it sucks. It's a fricking useless action in the real combat half of the game, and what's worse the story itself just goes "Well, you learned it now you just win". Like holy fricking shit all of this is like 80% of the games runtime too, with the last bit just casing down the big bad in his temple for him to fricking slap you and run away like this was just a bad monday or something. We obtain a shitty attack, we solve nothing plot wise, and the real threat runs off and we're left having to search for him...again. This entire thing is horrible as a starting point, a middle, or an ending. Yet the game wants to pat you on the back going "Don't worry, just wait for the NEXT ONE!". Yeah, Shenmue 1 drags with the sailors, but you're doing and gaining -so much- doing that segment along the way. You also have a legit showdown with some rather notable henchmen who boarder on slightly superpowered and fair fine. Shenmue 2 might drag with the gambling but again there's a lot more going on subplot wise that gives you new attacks, new info leads, and is moving things along so once you do have enough money the final feels well earned and more directly set up then just dropping in randomly that we could have do at any fricking time.
There's direct pacing and slow and steady build up in 1&2 that 3 just forgoes because it thinks busywork is what people REALLY want instead of logical plot progression.
It doesn't make any sense because the plot progression should've picked up when it didn't in 3 especially given the external circumstances. Maybe Suzuki had the outline of 3 to be like this in mind when he could get big budgets to build games and he could've added even more. But the fact he had to resort to Kickstarter should've been a sign to him to actually scale back his original plan and speed the plot up because even if he couldn't finish it, it should've been a way to at least entice people to play it and get to the point where Suzuki doesn't need to beg for money and can get funding from publishers for a forth entry. Right now, looking at things, we'll never get another entry which is a shame but perhaps for the better given how 3 went and how a forth entry probably can't be funded by Kickstarter anymore given how many people feel like they got burned.
>Mandatory grinding, mandatory gambling
Except that was exclusively a problem in Shenmue 1 and 2 and it doesn't apply to 3 because it had difficulty mode to skip any gameplay interactivity to gain exp or money. That essay video is just one exaggeration of him only doing one single gambling mini-game (and pretending it's the only source of income) when there's dozen different sources of money to make in s3. It's as if some gay claimed the only way to move past that mahjong bet in yakuza 2 is to grind money on random street fights for 3 hours on end which isn't the truth and there are multiple ways to approach this road block.
How did he waste his life? By being a Shenmue fan?
Yes
>REEE i wasted my time waiting for this game that wasn't good and didn't end the series
>How did he waste his life? By being a Shenmue fan?
unironically yes, that is what he's saying
I dont get it. It's not like he spent all that sitting around waiting for Shenmue 3. It just happened to come out while he was doing other stuff.
If he worked on the game I'd understand, but this doesn't make sense.
Youtube reviewers are morons.
No he did, he didn't get an education or a job or a gf or nothing, just waited for Shenmue 3 all his life instead
I'd be pissed too
>thing you’ve always wanted continued gets new entry
>it’s a literal turd on a plate and will never get any sequel or closure
Hurrrr durr but you didn’t achually waste your life. Why do you guys act like this? I don’t like video essay gays but why be dense morons on purpose?
Not being able to understand jokes is a sign of autism.
It wasnt funny though
There's no real joke.
Imagine waiting your whole life for a game that was never supposed to come out. Lmaooing. I gave up when the next Shenmue game after 2 was supposed to be some Chinese MMO thing.
>t. autist that doesn't understand what hyperbole is
Worse.
Shenmue was never good to begin with and Sega never could have competed with the big N.
It's a movie game hated by people who like movie games
for some reason fat girls in simplistic styles is very erotic to me
This is dishonest because it isn't even in style, it would be something moronic like 3 simple shapes at best, not even resembling the human body.
I hate this joke. good luck trying to make something hot in-style of this shit.
>target breasts sister bikini sexual harassment kids
?
Isn't this the moron who claimed the the worst arc in Baki was his favorite while it also happened to be the current one airing and told people to actually not read Baki?
He also likes Edgerunners, frick him.
Edgerunners is good though?
>Indian shill detected
>Samegay accusing anyone of perfidy
pefidy? more like SIRFIDDY I NEED MONIES
>SIRS PLEASE
>RUN EDGE IS GOOD PLEASE SIR
Not to v contranarians who haven't watched it
Are you this insufferable irl? No wonder you have no friends
Gonna rewatch edgerunners today to spite you
>Life is so pitiful he can easily dedicate 5 hours to rewatching an anime he's already seen to spite some random homosexual on the internet
If you want to stick it to that Anon just go outside
>having free time to spend on things you enjoy is pitiful
And you have nothing better to do than consume something you've already consumed out of spite?
>Make people wait 20 fricking years to finally fight Lan Di after having to make a Kickstarter because Sega fricking refused to give you another chance at a sequel
>Make his bossfight just be hitting autoblocks for 20 seconds and the game ends on another fricking cliffhanger
Yeah it's shit
At least we got a anime...
He needs to just accept that there aren’t enough fans to make this work. Finish the dumb story and let everyone, including himself, move on.
The fact that he didn't wrap up the story with 3 when he had the chance is straight up insane to me.
he really overestimated the game
The anime was honestly kinda fun to watch.
>caring about story in video games
Filtered. Go read a book, the medium clearly isn't for you.
I don't know about anyone else but I actually went into 3 assuming this wasn't going to be the end and that the story would continue but when you spend the entire fricking game learning one fricking move and it's useless against Lan Di in the end then what the frick was the point? Left real sour taste in my mouth.
>I don't know about anyone else but I actually went into 3 assuming this wasn't going to be the end
This. Anyone who has done five seconds of reading about Shenmue knows it's supposed to have likesomething stupid like 17 chapters and each game is 3-6 chapters of the story. if you really thought the third game was gonna let you fight lan di, go home and have a happy ever after not noticing nozomi then you're as moronic as ryo is.
Literally nothing happened in the story though. It did not progress at all.
It's one thing if a story is long because there's just so much happening in it, and another completely if it's just wasting its fricking time like Shenmue 3.
Most fans issues wasn't that they didn't get the epic Lan Di fight conclusion (although maybe should have considering how shaky Shenmue 4's development seems to be) but rather they were hoping for the story to progress a bit.
Instead the game ends the same way it starts with not much being progressed story wise.
You mentioned how Shenmue is meant to be 17 chapters, and that each game is meant to be 3-6 chapters? If that was the case, Shenmue 3's end point would be around chapter 9 at a minimum. So You'd be at roughly the halfway point of the narritave. Now with that in mind how does it feel knowing you've reached the mid point of a story and there has been no worthwile progression. And that's a minimum approach, if each game was 6 chapters, we'd be at chapter 18...
Almost everything he described in that video is correct. That gambling shit is so contrived and just exists to roadblock you hard.
Ganker - e-"celebs" general
Did we ever find out what happened between him and Pat?
Pat ruined yet another "professional/business" relationship?
Color me surprised.
Probably got lightly ribbed and sperged out
I only know that it involved Paige, Pat trying to physically fight him and later getting a lawyer involved
Did anything happen? He's still collabing with Woolie which I don't think he'd do if there was any beef with Pat, as evidenced by Matt and Liam never associating with Woolie now.
Woolie went to Ireland and met up with eyepatch wolf (including being a guest on his podcast) yet didn't mention him at all on the podcast with Pat. He also recently attended a con with Eyepatch wolf and didn't mention him on the podcast. I'm not sure if someone happened or if Pat generally being an unlikeable c**t destroyed another friendship
I'd say that I listen to Eyepatch Wolf's podcast. They've mentioned, Woolie, Matt and even Liam. They never acknowledge Pat.
He never played GTA 3. If he did, he might have realized why Shenmue is forgotten.
I havn't thought of this sperg since REmak2 released. What have I missed since?
It was no worse than the first 2. The problem is hardly anyone played them, they were just excited based on pure hype, then 3 comes out and it was mediocre just like the others, and they all felt embarrassed.
>It was no worse than the first 2
It absolutely was. It fricked up the combat system, and has the worst, most fumbled narrative out of the 3
And this...is why...gaywolf...is...a wienersucker...
>leads a troony witch hunt because some christians used one of his videos in a fair-use documentary on why anime is bad
>has a spregout over a prebuilt pc and his own incompetence in fixing it, which he got to keep for free in the end
>is likely a homosexual and is "good friends" with hbomberguy
>furgay
scum, literal scum.
Super Eyepatch is a genuine troglodyte.
Yes, the game was bad. Every single aspect of it was significantly worse than 1&2. I get they didn't have the same budget and so maybe the graphics and scope were going to be worse, but that's no excuse for the story not advancing the plot forward at all and the combat being designed around button mashing.
And then a big strong man
I played Shenmue 1 and 2 back when they were brand spanking new. Very fun games then and still very fun when I replayed them via the remasters. I didn't waste my life waiting for Shenmue 3+, I'd written the saga off as dead somewhere around 2011. Only thing I lost was some chump change backing the third one.
They should have kept same art style/graphics as 1 and 2 for 3. 3 has generic anime graphics. The voice acting is also worse and so is the gameplay. Basically everything in 1 and 2 was superior despite being 20 years older.
Has he stopped his fricking annoying speaking style yet
>annoying speaking style
That's exactly why I haven't watched his content in years. He and that other gay, thorhighheels, are unbearable in their breathy, grating, sound-like-you're-dying type of speaking. JUST CATCH SOME AIR YOU FRICKS.
thorhighheels not only is unbearable to listen to but he doesn't even provide funny/insightful commentary
I really liked Shemue 1, it was super comfy. Are the sequels any good? I know its a bit of a meme but I didn't like the forklift bits.
Most people love 2 and think it's better than 1. Personally I didn't like it for the reasons stated in
. I think Shenmue is a whole package and the setting is a very important part of it. So yanking you out of it to throw you into a setting you have no real connection to with characters you have no real connection to and will be abandoning shortly anyway failed to grab me the way the first game did.
I'm not really interested in the story and Ryo as a character is as interesting as a block of wood but I think his awkward, autistic personality worked in the first game because, again, the familiar setting and the calm pacing. Shenmue II is basically a Hollywood action movie in comparison and I don't like it.
I feel the same way. Shenmue II peaked an hour into the game when you could really feel the 'fish out of the water' aspect of the story but the game forgets about cool simple details that could've built up Ryo's journey like the language barrier or the true desperation you'd feel if you were to have all your money/resources stolen and 10 hours later you're fighting in underground arenas and traversing wooden beams in 15th floor buildings and fighting a tranvestite with a chainsaw and it feels like the groundness of the first game just jumped out the fricking window
That guy likes chainsaw man, you tell me
How good was the anime?
It’s not that bad but also fully understandable why anyone would dislike it that much in the grand scheme of things.
I really believe that had shenmue 3 come out a few years after 2 it would have killed the franchise then and there.
It’s just okay at best, rushes through the plot of 1 and 2 and season 2 got canceled so we never got to see 3 animated alongside potentially continuing the story via anime
>play game for 100+ hours
>"it sucks!"
literally me with nioh 2 and strive and risk of rain 2
played for 250 hours+ in each of them and uninstalled
I have finished the first two games like 20 times. Not even joking.
3 was a big delusion for me too. It lacked the soul of 1 ans 2.
Yeah its a filler episode but a lot of 1 and 2 were filler so I think people were just looking at the older games with rose colored glasses but LITERALLY nothing happens to forward the story at all in 3 and it took 20 years to come out so understandable
no, it just wasn't as good as they said it was.
It's worse
One of the worst video essayists on the platform. He has literally one gimmick
Just read this while getting breathier and breathier after each sentence:
"This game...is good. It is....really....really good. But maybe...just maybe...it's not. Consider the fact that the gameplay here...MIGHT JUST BE...something, else, entirely. And you will see that this game....isn't very good at all."
It's weird, because he has the self awareness that his speaking style is completely moronic but he still does it
there's no reason for a new shenmue game to ever be made after the yakuza series kicked off. Sad to see 3 ended up the way it did since I loved 1 and thought 2 was decent.
Shenmue was a "cinematic" game before every Sony game tried to be cinematic.
Now imagine that but ontop of it, the movie it wants to tell is really fricking boring.
The essay's largest flaw is despite momentary self-awerness he still tries to worm his way in justifying and excusing that Shenmue 1 and 2 also aren't shit.
>Shenmue 1 and 2 also aren't shit.
because they aren't
I've never played a shenmue game and I always wanted to play a Jackie Chan movie from the 80s. Should I give it a chance?
If you want that play Sleeping Dogs.
Shenmue is about relaxing in a slow town, as the kids say, it's a real vibe.
Do NOT play with the hideous english dub, play with the proper japanese and take it seriously
Too many ironicgays play the english and don't care about the game
>as the kids say, it's a real vibe.
kids don't say that at all, only millenials that still act like teenagers in their late 30s
Play Sleeping Dogs or Yakuza instead
Shenmue is 65% walking around a Japanese village not doing much besides laughing at the hilariously bad English dubbing, 20% trying to practice the combat mechanics and then 15% on actually using the combat in the game proper to expand the story foward so you can continue walking around not doing much.
his videos on anime horror and the personas people make of themselves online, specifically citing perfect blue, and the simpsons analysis were dead on, as well as his video on ff15.
any other good videos of his? because most of them look boring af
The wrestling ones are decent. entertaining even.
i liked the one about fake martial arts and charlatans
shenmue has always been shit and so has supertroonywolf
>Was it really as bad as all the video essayists said it was?
It is substantially worse than 1 and 2. I don't remember the details anymore since I played it a long time ago, but other than the obvious (combat system) one detail really stuck with me: there are no playable slot machines anymore. Not even in the gambling DLC. This is very weird to me because slot machines are simple as frick to design and code, literally takes like a single workday from one guy. And they just didn't bother. That's the attitude that makes me dislike 3: not putting in the details that would have been easy to put.
Yes, but Shenmue II sucks too. The first one is the only good one and it's because of the slow paced gameplay combined with a good setting that's fleshed out and familiar to Ryo, thus offering a way for the player to connect to and get absorbed in it. This is completely absent in both the second and especially third games.
Shemue as a series is total dogshit and I can't fathom why anyone even enjoys it. Plus Super Eyepatch Wolf is a c**t.
>I can't fathom why anyone even enjoys it.
Dreamcastgays desperately trying to justify their dead in the water console.
When Shenmue 1 came out it was legitimately something new and fresh and really kind of cool. Technologically impressive too. There just wasn't anything else like it at the time.
Nowadays... let's say it's an acquired taste.
It's significantly worse than 1 and 2 but it isn't terrible, I still had a comfier time than the average Ubisoft open world. I have even less hope for the 4 that's supposedly confirmed, based on the creator saying he wants to make it for people who haven't played the series before
Yeah its awful, also hate how the guy apologized to bleachkeks, that manga is and always will be trash.
It's a game that should've been released like 20 years ago, back then it would've been fine. The design is out of date.

Unironically filtered by old school gameplay style.
Same reason zoomers complain about Sonic Adventure.
If you want to play Yakuza, go play Yakuza.
>Unironically filtered by old school gameplay style.
Explain why people like Shenmue 1 and 2 then.
Inovative realism for the time, exploration, good story and characters.
But the gameplay was always just a Virtua Fighter-lite with tank controls.
No. Explain why the exact same people like Shenmue 1 and 2 and hate 3. And don't you dare try to pin it on nostalgia, it is not that.
finding the little birds in the second area was heckin' fun but the fighting system was so shit its unreal
>you need to train boring training shit to beat the enemy
Nah it's great. Also he is lying about wasting his life. Lives of people who makes those vids or watches them have no value. He can't waste his life no matter what he does.
>that whole 1/4 of shenmue 2 just walking through the forest and shit talking to shenhua and learning about the world
>all throw away by shenhua turning into some fat roasted up bawd
awful, i fricking hate the voice actor for shenhua
Mother 3 broke me.
I'd buck break you too.
I don't know, but I will say that when a sequel takes a long time to come out, it usually leads to high expectations it'll never live up to, no matter its quality.
Half-Life 3 could be a legit 10/10, but unless it can print money and make your waifu real it'll feel like a disappointment to most of the hardcore fans who have been waiting since HL2 came out.
After the initial shock games are normally remembered like they actually are. Hitman fans were skeptical of the new games after Absolution was horrible, it had been a decade since Blood Money and the new game was releasing episodically: everything pointed to it being a disaster. And now the new Hitman trilogy is seen as some of the best stealth games of its generation and a fan favorite revival of the franchise.
Point being, Shenmue is niche as it is; if III scratched the real Shenmue itch its fans would defend it as good even with the high expectations. A big problem with Shenmue III is that it doesn't feel like Shenmue, see the combat system
Shenmue is only good for the leap in graphics and its technical ability. They need to make shenmue cheap as frick and not boring as frick. Why they thought emulating everything about the original games was the way to go is beyond anyone.
The Eyepatch guy explained it perfectly.
The game was designed to waste as much of your time as possible.
The whole "I better go to bed" system where you had your mandatory weird convo with Shenhua that ultimately went nowhere. You don't ever get to kiss or frick her despite living with her.
The shitty "stamina" system where you lose health if you run and must buy a bunch of food to keep it up. Otherwise, you have to walk everywhere slowly.
The villagers had nothing interesting to say.
The "big guy" bosses where you must go learn a move to beat him but to learn that move, you need to raise some insane amount of money and play annoying minigames.
The moves you learn to defeat the random big guys are nearly identical and can only be done in that qte cutscene. They were desperately trying to recreate the final boss fight in Shenmue 2.
At least in Shenmue 2, you learn the counter-elbow assault early and can use it in any fight. It takes special timing to maximize damage, so nobody uses it. Then in the final battle with don niu, you get an epic QTE where you break his ribs with it as Lan Di is watching from above in his Helicopter.
I pray RGG takes Shenmue and just remakes the whole thing.
I heard a rumor that 110industries are making Shenmue 4. They're about to release this game "Wanted: Dead" in February.
>You don't ever get to kiss or frick her despite living with her.
she's supposed to be like 15 years old, despite the AWFUL character model and voice acting
>she's supposed to be like 15 years old
Jesus christ. They should have at least retconned her age in S3 so that Ryo can romance her or something.
Now just seems weirder that he's an 18-year-old guy being brought to the home of a 15-year-old and just living with her.
Plus at the end of 3 she just continues along with him and Ren who I'm pretty sure is like 20.
it's jarring playing 2 then 3, since in 2 she seems like a young girl, but in 3 she sounds and looks like a mid20s woman
I see
It was quite forgettable, but 2 was already really bad, boring, insanely padded and empty, so I really don't know what the deal is with Shenmue fans. First one was comfy and worked precisely because it was so small and local.
I would love a full remake of Shenmue 1 with lots of QoL changes and shit. It's still a good story, I love talking to Nozomi about my daily problems, or Tom, I think it would be great.
I like 1 more than 2. I still like 2, but my main complaint about 2 is that it abandoned some of the more simulation-ey aspects that made 1 special. Also the part time job in 2 is dumb and gay. However, I can't deny that 2 has a better climax and resolution. That final disc, despite being just a walk through the forest with Shenhua, felt really rewarding and deserved.
If you don't.... support trans rights..... please...... kill..... yourself.
this but unironically and expressed in a single breath instead of seven
It's pretty dull. It is the lamest kung fu story of all time, but occasionally a nice slice-of-life sim.

That guy *pause and sigh out of frustration*
is so fricking gay *start speaking really softly and pause again*
it's unbelievable *slowly end the sentence with a sad tone*
is this just outdated yakuza?
i heard this guy wants to make 15 games out of this story and took 20 years to do the 3rd one.
>wants to make 15 games
It was 15 **chapters**, and each game is like 2-4 chapters. So probably around 5-7 games in total.
ok thanks. still we will all be dead at that pace. when i heard that i decided to never touch these games.
yakuza certainly takes inspiration from shenmue but no, they're completely different games
actually now that I think of it, the more recent yakuza games do have a greater resemblance to shenmue than 1-4
Take a look at Judgment and Lost Judgment, they're basically what Shenmue could've and should've been.
I might play 'em at some point
definitely more interested in those than 7 or 8
The Yakuza games don't focus on immersion like Shenmue. Plus Judgment has its fair share of repetitive shit like the tailing and kei-hin gang invasions.
It's such a dumb little thing, but I do greatly appreciate Shenmue letting you pick up random stuff and having Ryo commentate on everything.
Another perfect example of why you need to keep your creatives on a leash.
What will finish first?
>The Shenmue Saga
>The Oddworld Quintology.
I'm sure they'll try and fail to make another Oddworld game again in a decade or two.
I don't see anybody funding any more Shenmue games unless the hack agrees to relinquish creative control.
I heard the new one wasn't so good but barely see anyone talk about it
Yeah I was kinda surprised by how quiet the reception was. I imagine it was one of those games that was so mediocre that there just wasn't much to say about it. The Oddworld fanbase on Ganker is probably pretty small anyway. Hell, I only ever played Stranger's Wrath.
No.
It's about the same as 2. Not as good as 1.
No videogame is likely as terrible as clickbait video essayists say
Shenmue was never good.
No but it wasnt good
Videogame essays or so fricking stupid
Imagine studying the work of someone else, but instead of scientific topics its fricking videogames. Like a fart connoiseur
And these videos are like 4 hours of it
I never watch any of these things so I can only imagine how they manage to get so much mileage out of them.
Like I could do a video essay on why I think Shadow the Hedgehog is a masterclass in bad game design but I dunno how I'd stretch that to so much as an hour without a criminal amount of padding.
I'd rather read than watch if I can help it, since I can read faster than listening to some YouTuber talk.
I liked the part where he went on about the combat, it really reminded me of just how many games will try to pass skill-less grinding as "content" then people will pretend they are any better or more complex than a 80s dragon quest game just because the graphics may or may not pass as triple A presentation on screenshots and it has *VOICE ACTING* on it. It really represents what went wrong with the medium in a few minutes and just for that I liked the video.
Shenmue 2 is a game with a lot of problems with its pacing & content in the middle portion, but man the final couple hours of that game are some of my fondest and most memorable gaming experiences.
yu suzuki was like the carmack of the eastern gaming world
what happend??
>what happend??
yu suzuki was like the carmack of the eastern gaming world
Unlike Carmak who plays some video games, Yu Suzuki admitted that he never plays video games.
if he did, he will instantly realize how boring his games have become.
Lol Yu Suzuki plays games, and knows about it
He's not hardcore about it, but the genesis of Shenmue was playing old computer RPG like Ultimata

from an 1up interview
"JM: What's your favorite game at the moment?
YS: [Nintendo's] Tomodachi Collection. It's such a good game. I also think Dobutsu no Mori [Animal Crossing] is a really good game. "
I saw someone play through the game and it honestly seemed like the funnest shenmue it just had a gay non-existent ending.
