Best bioware game. Starwars gays will cry about this though.

I had a whole head canon of what this game was based off my own imagination and I wanted it to bad. This was back in the ways I was like 14 and would buy games based off cover art having absolutely no idea what the game was or the gameplay. I saw the box art once and I had a whole head canon of what the game was probably like based off nothing. To this day never seen gameplay or screenshots and I dont want to

Good for the time, probably didn't age well.
Unironically didn't succeed due to racism.
Far more interesting premise than Dragon Age, but Asian-themed games don't have the mass appeal of generic medieval fantasy tripe.

moronic post, i played the shit out of jade empire and loved it but the ~10 hours or so I played of dragon age absolutely mogged JE

        >t. samegay

It was chinese KotOR. Also the combat was super cheeseable. I remember light combo and flip over opponent made you a god for 90% of the gameplay.
It's alright, but nothing special. Get it if you wanna scratch that mid 2000 bioware itch.

Elden Ring is super cheesable, does that make it bad?
        >play any class with a starting bleed weapon
        >go to Caelid
        >kill sleeping dragon for 40 levels worth of runes and breath spell that chunks most bosses in the game for 50%+ of their health

          >Elden Ring is super cheesable, does that make it bad?
It doesn't do it any favors. Also the JE cheese is in another league, Imagine that in ER you could just r1 and then roll and repeat this action, and that you'd never have to time it, and you'd be completely invincible. Choosing light attacks is like that.
If something like that is not important to you, enjoy yourself. I played JE, and enjoyed it in spite of the overpowered strat.

I couldn't do Dragon Age. The whole "This ain't your daddy's D&D game!" vibe or Origins felt so lame. Jade Empire at least feels like a fun adventure. Dragon Age is "Hmmm... Do I want to spend 3 hours miserable in the mage's tower or 3 hours miserable in the caves?" DA:O was also the first big taste of the scummy EA day 1 DLC packs that made you incredibly OP.

      >Asian-themed games don't have the mass appeal of generic medieval fantasy tripe.
This was definitely true back then. Still true of Chinese-themed games, which don't benefit from the rise in mainstream anime.
I remember liking Jade Empire, but I didn't love it like I did Knights of the Old Republic, and i dislike all other Star Wars media.

Pretty good. Would have been better if it was written by a more competent group. With it coming along after KOTOR they figured they could just do that but the light/dark side bullshit doesn't work outside of George Lucas's moronic black and white setting. You can have a prolonged talk about the philosophy of both paths super early in the game and Closed Fist was about people becoming stronger by overcoming adversity but in gameplay it translates to just being nazi dracula who eats babies. Also fricking ridiculous steam still sells it when the game doesn't really even work unless you bust your ass to get it going.

I loved it when I was younger, but I was also the kind of kid who only got one game a year (used) and would play it over and over and over again. The combat is pretty straightforward about just dumping buckets of damage onto the enemy before they can react, but messing around with the different styles is pretty neat. Companions feel interesting and have personalities to them, even if they are kind of useless in combat. Artstyle and setting are fun and unique. The morality meter is an ok idea, but still devolves into being either a saint or a baby-eater. Perhaps it would have been a better idea to make actions independent of moral alignment, but how you JUSTIFY them is what gives you points. Final act is great.

A lot of the individual elements are half-done, but I think as a package it still works.

    Ending complaint:
I wish the game had pointed out a little more ambiguity with how killing the Water Dragon will basically doom the Jade Empire to a huge famine and drought. They've been on borrowed time since they strung her up, but at the end you still see a bunch of citizens cheering for you even though you've been a wanted criminal the entire game and are about to destroy the empire.

It's rough around the edges and suffers from Bioware's general inability to make an interesting morality system, but overall it has a unique setting and frickloads of good ideas.

These days a hidden gem, if you have an autistic teenage nephew or whatever, this is something to bond over since he's probably played everything from the last decade already.
When it came out it was supposed to be the next-gen CRPG (and in the sense that ARPGs eventually took over the RPG market, I suppose they weren't too far off.) Everyone played it but it was panned for having shallow systems design and the combat being easy to exploit / button spam, as well as the simplistic morality system. Don't ask how Mass Effect ended up executing on the formula to success mere years later or how Dark Souls has the same issues and gets away with it every time.
For everything in it that's aged poorly (games seemed bigger when I was younger and the standard was lower,) there's some kind of beauty in playing it. You can see the direction CRPGs might have taken if EA hadn't stepped in and Dragon Age hadn't captured easy fujoshi money.
Instead all we get is Open World Medieval Ubisoft Game: Code rEAd, Baldur's Gate Nostalgiabait, and Soulsborne after Soulsborne.

Didn't Jade Warrior predict Social Justice Warriors for people who aggressively followed the Path of the Open Palm?
