      Its this

Chess also has prestige and is an old game, hence being good at a "solved" game gives credence to being the best.

Video games are niche because they are short lived, get updates etc. Not a true level playing field, it incentivizes rote memorization of incredibly specific mechanics that give autists an advantage.
chess is clean and there's very little subterfuge, so in a contest of minds the truly great will have an obvious advantage

Chess is all about memorizing patterns and strategies not 200IQ plays like people think, there's only a set amount of ways a match can go and probably only AI can find strange or before unseen ways to play beating even the best chess players in the process because they don't know how to react to that strategy yet. Not at all that different from video games.

        >Chess is all about memorizing patterns and strategies

That's the thing, Chess wasn't like that 20 years ago... even 10 years ago chess was completely different. Memorizing patterns and strategies was a fools errand because computers were not nearly as strong as the top players a real GM (not chinese or indian) were able to figure out positions and moves way better than a computer.

Chess used to be a 200IQ game.

It still is. Memorizing patterns is a very large part of chess, but the difference between the top players is not just memorizing patterns. Midgame and especially endgame positions are not possible to memorize, and combined with time constraints actual chess/thinking ability is a large factor in determining who wins between top players. I don't know where you shits get these ideas from, youtube I guess?

The game will eventually move to Fischer chess and Capablanca chess once people realize they don't want to see 10 indian kids playing against each other and the old guard stops playing.

It's always was fun to see old players play better and more accurate engine approved moves than current chess players in the capablanca format.

His mentor was notorious for cheating himself and having cheating students.
He lied about cheating when streaming, but was found to basically have cheated on every match chess site match he streamed "for content and views".
So while there was no hard evidence for him cheating in that match, the following investigations uncovered all his historical cheatings and him lying about it.

Chess suffers from the need to maintain a sort of "regal" image. Kind of like people who play classical instruments/music have to do the same thing but in reality they could very well be getting BTFO by some gay in his bedroom punching LED buttons in terms of raw artistic output, creativity, skill, and complexity. Of course the "image" of classical music would never and could never acknowledge that truth.

The reason video game "sports" will never be respected is because they are inherently ephemeral and commoditized. They have no lasting cultural staying power. They are made obsolete as soon as another game comes out. There is a total lack of permanence.
A normal person cannot look at a video game as anything more than someone mastering a worthless and temporary corporate product because that's what it is.
Chess is also a game, also exists for entertainment, but it is old enough to have inherent pedigree that can be expected to last, and it is not, in principle, an owned product. Nobody owns chess as a concept.
Even the most respected esports are just products. When someone watches a chess game, they are not thinking about how it's brought to you by the moneygrubbers at Riot Games: Meanwhile, League of Legends is inherently a corporate owned phenomenon. To be a good chess player you can just play chess, and, if you desire to do so, represent your nation. To be a good League of Legends player you're inherently just a consumer consuming a product with more skill than most other consumers. You are an underpaid corporate marketing employee at best and inherently will not gain respect as an individual for that reason.
I don't particularly care about chess, but a chess player is just a chess player. No more, no less.
A League of Legends player is a League of Legends player in addition to being a laughable consumerist cuck.
