While Ephraim is an infinitely better character I think it's pretty debatable that he's the main character over Eirika. The initial story doesn't have him playable and he's only an optional main character for the second two thirds or so while Eirika is playable through the entire thing.
Eliwood and Hector should have been a trio with Lyn like Three Houses. Ephraim and Eirika duo.
