You've got it backwards. The base game was really good, as was the original DLC. But this pass has been very mediocre. The difference in quality and attention to detail is night and day. I would have preferred the Switch version only got 4-8 tracks on par with the Wii U ones over all the amateur level ones they shoveled out.

Given how the average of the BCP courses are better, I find that hard to believe, especially when it means not even needing to pay when you only play online.
Even when most of them are visual garbage, the only ones I hate playing on are Tokyo Blur and Sky-High Sundae from being nothingburgers with the odd drift, which is like how I feel about Mario Circuit and Toad's Turnpike anyway.
Also, the '1 item' thing in Wii U has always been its own special flavor of garbage for a decade strong and you're a homosexual for defending that.

the original 48 have higher highs, but a fair few lower lows than the newer ones on average (though with the earlier cities like Tokyo and London as I said earlier, it's pretty close). Even when the originals are (relatively) a Tour de Force visually for little ol Bing Bing, I'd still prefer Rock Rock Mountain and Mario Circuit 3 of all things compared to shit like Cloudtop Cruise and Sunshine Airport.

Nostalgia from.. playing a game in the current year and then directly comparing it to another one that he also plays? I play Wii far more often than 8 myself. If you play a game actively it isn't nostalgia. Nostalgia is when you haven't played a game in years and still hold the exact same opinion of it you did when you were a child without having revisited it since.

I know that's not what nostalgia is defined in the dictionary as, yes. But nostalgia isn't powerful enough to shape your opinion of a game if you continue to play it more frequently than other entries. Otherwise they wouldn't keep playing it. They'd just play the better game after a while. Handwaving any preference for any game that isn't the latest entry away as "nostalgia" is a reddit tier opinion.

The only thing that saved 7 was the Retro selection because they picked great stages, but now 8 has a good chunk of them plus most of the best ones from 7, so there's not much reason to go back to it

          Anonymous

7 had a handful of good original tracks but damn the retros mogged almost all of them so hard it is almost comical looking back. I like when Nintendo takes risks with the rosters, the problem with 7s is just that it was way too fucking small. 16 characters in 2011 is ridiculous. DS had 12 in 2005 on much weaker hardware. I like that it made Walufags seethe though. The sole redeeming quality of it.

7's tracks are abhorrent and I can't even figure out exactly.

I've never hated a course before based on Aesthetics alone. There's also Rock Rock Mountain's random ass giant hill with boost pads which feels like something out of a Wii custom track.

For me I've always felt like 7's tracks have good ideas but the execution of them is just so underwhelming and often not as fun when actually used in practice. Like 7 Bowser's Castle.

            >holy shit, you literally glide into the castle bro
            >bro you drive underwater with lava being shot up somehow
            >you ride on a wooden spinning platform just like in ds to get into the underwater section!!!
            >branching paths!!!
            >giant lava waterfalls!!!
I don't even dislike 7 BC but when compared to other BCs it's just so... meh. Wario's Shipyard, Rosalina's Ice World, Music Park, Neo Bowser City all fit this description too IMO, it feels widespread throughout the game for some reason. Even Shy Guy Bazaar and Pihrana Plant Pipeline underperform their themes a bit, just kinda style over substance I feel.

To be fair thats true in every game, less so in 8 i would say.
In Wii, because there were no coins and Triple bananas were so common AND you could hold 2 items, anything short of a blue shell and you were fine. Hell in Wii dodging blue shells was the easiest thing too.

        Anonymous

I'd honestly say being in first is more dangerous in Wii than it is in 8. Cause in Wii the blue shells are brutal, you lose a shit ton of time because it flings you up into the air and there is a higher rate of blues in Wii than in 8. Plus in 8, if you weren't holding your item you keep it. Unlike in Wii where your item is lost no matter what you do which leaves you open to being comboed. Blue shell + Red Shell in MKW is a solid 10 second timeloss and it's not a very uncommon occurrence. Can literally sink your race if you had just gotten into first and weren't that far removed from everyone else. 8 also has coins which give you speed boosts which literally make it so you drive faster than everyone else, people in the pack can't just pick up 10 coins and hog them because they're usually having to deal with items and as such you can get gigantic leads in 8 a lot more easily.

        >act as if you actually won.
I did win. Didn't you see the results? I finished the race first.
You could do it too if you wanted.

You're the kind of retard who complained that N64 Rainbow Road wasn't a 6 minute long guardrailed straightaway where the only variation in gameplay was what item you got.

Jesus Christ the MKwii fags in this thread are as bad as Meleefags.
Both Wii and 8 are stellar games.

    Short answer: no. Personal answer,
    >yet another MK where single player content= cups/time trial/online exclusively
    >kart stats balancing is still ass and favors tryhards going for that one asset course to be better than any other combination, a problem for the mainline series ever since MKDS
    >Dual item slot removes a great deal of driving/item management you'd run on regular 8's single item system, flat lining any residue of skill required to play besides driving
    >Battle modes, for how many there are, only allow Timed matches on every single battle mode in local multiplayer, you can't even have the classic Elimination mode without the timer here
    >Overall track quality diluition from 8 due to the Tour tracks, with some of the most egregious layout simplifications from returning courses getting ported over from Tour (see GBA Sky Garden)
    >the one thing from Tour everyone wished to be ported over (the giant characters/alt costumes pool) was halfassed, with a lot of costume alts getting skipped and a few pilots like the Bob-Omb King and Kamek not coming out at all
We're near the end of 2023 and I still can't believe I have more fun by playing Sonic ASR Transformed or the CTR remake over this game. A shame, considering how the content ported over from base 8 is as gorgeous as ever and 200cc plays better here than on Wii U to me.

I just hope they put in a Random Track Select with the final update, similar to Smash with its Stage Select. I love having a nice 48 track GP with my bros, but I'd like to disable the ones I don't like.
