some abhorrent moments in gaming are best left in the past
your pic very rel
Cope
this. MMOs were literally never good
you smell like a console homosexual
nah, just the problem is like 99% of people who 'played' them only played casualshit like WoW
you can play those games anytime you want anon
I'm 32 and a broke NEET now. At least playing WoW as a teen gave me hope
lol gave you hope for what
Hope for a future where things would be better. Too bad everything is worse now
just get a job bro
Eat shit gay
Whining on an anime imageboard will surely help your situation.
im doing pretty good, whats your problem?
I'm 5'5, 200 lbs and balding. Also am a 33 year old virgin
so what?
I thought being broke would be a bigger problem for you.
Why is modern Ganker so fricking hostile to basically it's own kind and their pastimes?
Well, not only that because it's always fun to laugh at losers but you get my point.
I really wonder it's like to be an outcast zoomer. It's like even /d/-tier porn is occupied by normalgays.
Abject schizophrenia is my last bastion
>I really wonder it's like to be an outcast zoomer
Oh boy, I couldn't imagine. Even niche hobbies are overrun with normie homosexualry.
Your best bet is hang out on IRC and on smaller websites (or smaller Ganker boards) if you truly want to escape the ironic normie corporate hell net. I've personally had much success with that (not a "zoomer" though I know a few who have all done the same) As for local accommodations, there are always local chatrooms and meetups for nerds and for niche hobbies.
>local meetups for nerds and for niche hobbies
These always have a few females who go there to seek attention and nothing of note happens, it's not even worth going.
Meeting new people is always worth the trouble, anon.
There's always a few "outcasts" per village. The chatroom thing is more of a city thing though, yes.
>Meeting new people is always worth the trouble, anon.
I disagree I'm at the point in life where I'm done pretending to care about what ever bullshit you're talking about or what you are interested in. Though maybe that comes from never really having what I could call a friend in 32 years.
>I disagree I'm at the point in life where I'm done pretending to care about what ever bullshit you're talking about or what you are interested in
If you don't give any shits about what anyone says, then why are you in this thread arguing with me?
It's just as massive, it's simply also flooded with billions of normies now. If you want to make an argument about having to sift through gigabytes of garbage to find anything, then go right ahead, but don't talk if you don't know what you're talking about.
>normies
also arguing semantics is brain dead tier
>it’s just as massive
just read the image homosexual
>just read the image homosexual
And read my post again, you dumb motherfricker. Normies will always stick to their google facebook youtube meta and they represent the majority. That being said, The Internet STILL extends as far as you can type. If you don't know this it's because you're one of those failed normies, as robots would say.
oh no i understand it your just an early zoomer
>These always have a few females who go there to seek attention and nothing of note happens, it's not even worth going.
>seek attention
I can spot a millennial when I see one
>there are always local chatrooms and meetups for nerds and for niche hobbies.
In a major city, I doubt they aren't overrun with some normalgay trying to make a name for themselves are they try to find the next niche to exploit for social media gain.
there was a time reddit wasnt a cuckden
The fat balding man on the left would be made fun of by zoomers. There is no honesty in their kind.
I don't even know how to make friends anymore. I'm in my early 30s and would like to find a group of fat nerds so we could play Diablo or MTG or anything. I feel like normies only care about popular games because twitch tells them to play those
>I don't even know how to make friends anymore
>I'm in my early 30s
You don't.
I just started asking people if they want to hang out at my LGS when I go for.magic drafts . Frick it if it looks weird.
It's hard because in your 30s people start having kids and they're too young to be left alone.
Judging by the filename, this picture was posted on May 31st 2012. This makes this picture at least 10 years old.
anonymity affords total, often cruel, honesty
Because it's normie-wannabes now or failed normies coming here. There are few old school video gaming enthusiasts left. Also, people behave differently in different threads, most likely.
This is how i picture people that still frequent TF2 or New Vegas. Playing to recapture some of that 'magic' from 10 years ago
I'm going to help you avoid any angry TF2 players by posting this unrelated picture. They're going to ignore your truth and wait until someone makes a SFM version of this picture before they'll actually look at it and read it, then eventually double back to your post.
TF2 still holds up and is still active. I play it once on a while because mechanics wise it is still a good game. Haven't played New Vegas in a long time but I prefer Classic Fallout.
are u neet though?
What u think
tf2 and new vegas are timeless games that new people are constantly getting into for the first time. im honestly impressed you picked 2 of the worst possible examples to make your point
Playing WoW literally ruined your life.
Who gives an frick, just lean hard back into early-mid 2000s gaming NEETdom. It’s way more fun that way.
It doesn't work, it's never as fun as it used to be. All you can do is hope for something new that's good (unlikely)
I still like games and I've had moments in my early 30s now where I've enjoyed them as much as I'm sure I did when I was a kid, but it's really not the same without the carefree, no worries life you had when you were young.
Gaming feels like an escape from my shit life now rather than just what I like to do after coming home from school.
>NEET
>it's really not the same without the carefree, no worries life
you have no worries and no obligations if you're a NEET moron
I'm not a NEET though.
That's not true unless you live on neetbux and know that they will keep flowing indefinitely.
you neet homosexuals are as bad as trannies with your incessant coping lifestyle of indulging in unattainable, ultimately unsatisfying fantasies. its fricking pathetic
They're literal parasites.
>At least playing WoW as a teen gave me hope
>getting hope from a shitty mmo
But nobody wants to play them with me. Everyone I know who plays video games is only interested in modern garbage.
there are still us out there who like to play for nostalgia. You just have to find the right communities to join so you can play during their scheduled times. Get into Discord and learn how to use it. Dont be a Boomer
>Get into Discord and learn how to use it. Dont be a Boomer
have a nice day groomer troony
great reply, totally not boring and reductive at all.
>groomcord
Dilate
I used to browse a lot of old forums and play with random bros via log me in hamachi or if the game itself had functioning servers. Good times. Now for the most part I play with people from Ganker, /vg/, and some irl buddies and strangers on a few discord servers. It's hard to find a really good server, but once in a while you get lucky. I met a few guys in the us military who were super autistic and into barotrauma, and I had some fun playing with em a couple times-- turns out if you're a polite and fairly competent team member, people will add you on steam and invite you to shit. I know discord gets a ton of crap from ppl here, and I've had my fair share of shitty discord experiences, meeting literal pedos, groomers, and all sorts of other shitty people, but if you look hard enough youcan find some real stellar fellers.
>I met a few guys in the us military who were super autistic and into barotrauma
lucky bastard
Back when I played more often, I would just hop into random servers and use the same name every time-- actually got a bit of a reputation during those months because ppl knew I wasn't going to grief. Met a lot of recurring players and a handful of hosts who were testing out their own custom subs. It was a great time, and I really need to get back into the game some day. Last time I played we had a bunch of dudes crouching up and down, swinging their flashlights everywhere while the captain was throat singing, heh.
In retrospect I should've stuck with that autist military barotrauma group and played more with em, but I've always had more fun being alone and just popping in random situations to see how I can help. Plus I think the host joined the marines or something, I forget, so he also disappeared. It was cool while it lasted.
Nice.
>It was cool while it lasted.
same. Used to play with some IRL friends, it went from random sandbox missions to our best attempts at playing campaign once the griefer idiot got kicked out. We even started making our own mods custom enemies and weapons, and one day for no reason we stopped playing
Implying it's only about the games.
Implying you can play the games for the first time again.
Implying you can go through the skill-acquiring process again.
Implying you can still enjoy the notion that you are playing games on the cutting edge of technology and are part of something bigger than yourself.
Agreed anon
This
Super Nintendo, Saturn, PS1 all have tons of good games I've never played before. They never went away, you just stopped playing them
Fun times were had, but I don't want to go back.
same
that console equipment on the rack is nice. guy knew what he was doing
It’s Asmongold
>those greasy hair
yikes
Asmons parents really fricked up, why buy your teenager that much soda?
Is that really him?
yes it is
Why don't people use trash cans?
You have to get out of the chair to get to the trash can.
This is the guy that claimed he grew up "poor as dirt" btw
Frickin' grifter
Being poor in first world countries isn't like in your third world countries.
You are a complete moron
lmao says the one that says that someone isn't poor because he has a pc
>moron only sees a pc screen because he's furiously trying to make an argument
come back when you are not blind.
>internet
>mmo subscription
>magazine piles that cost 5 dollars per issue
>every video game console known to man
>parents own a house
kys moron
I grew up poor and I had a similar setup, except the consoles.
Even poor people can afford to buy a thing or two for their children, especially for christmas or their birthday.
You don't know what poor is
>my dad only made 50k a year ;(( i was so poor
I grew up with a jobless single mother. A second hand PC is cheap, an Internet connection is cheap as well.
do you think when he was sitting in this picture, he knew he'd still be sitting in the same spot playing WoW 20 years later
was never good
and look where it led you.
Based EB110 haver, he probably fricked every woman in the world.
Clarissa explains my wenis
SOVL
She's my friends 3rd cousin. I could have had a chance.
I can HEAR Hexic. Soul.
Reminds me of circa 1999-2002. My friend had a beach house down the shore on the bay and we'd be invited over for a weekend for a few years. I'd load up the N64 and Gamecube and in the evenings after a swim we'd all congregate boys and girls in the family room to play Smash, Mario Party, Goldeneye together with bowls of Cheetos, M&Ms. The girls smelled like chlorine (there was a pool too), and wore the cutest shit and it was just fresh young teen innocence.
>THEY RUINED METROID JERRY
If you give me a high quality source for this (episode number and timestamp) I can make the webm not shit
>jacked off to Melissa Joan Hart for the first time in 20 years
And they say you can never go back again.
Didn't even realise her figure was amazing
I dream of Melissa Joan heart frick you
Thicc.
The image is stretched horizontally.
The only way she could be improved is if she starred in fundamental christian movies.
That feel. There was nothing wrong with this UI, Fricking gay avatar update made it horrible.
The UI update was the exact moment the gaming industry was set on the current path its currently on
>November 19th, 2008
This checks out honestly.
sovl
don't forget the cool shit like gamer zones and rep. 360 had so much soul, and xbox one and x/s feel so corporate. it's sad.
>what are you waiting for?
for you to open up XBL registrations for my shithole of a country, dickheads
I hate that I can’t use this on any 360 anymore
As a poor kid growing up but still had access to consoles and internet. Demos, rentals, and vidya kiosks were my fricking drug.
Yeah, remember getting that gamecube on my 10th birthday that had a windwaker demo on all these legend of zelda games and playing that like crazy until getting it for christmas. Being a poor kid sucked but now i can get a game if i aant it but i dont feel the same way about it or any hobby i have now. No hobby fills my interest as much as it did pre 2018. I think the last games i put in mad hours into were monster hunter world and persona 5.
motherfricker
Never liked these because they were always touched by Hispanic kids.
there are still server owners for early-2000's games that still literally live like that- except now they've got kids and are nearing 40. It's a mindfrick talking to them via voicechat and how their mindset hasn't changed; its like they're still that same nerdy kid with that same desktop setup. The other day I had to describe what new PC hardware was like now with mechanical keyboards and such and this dude was still using his 2003 Logitech set.
I have a $10 keyboard from like 2008. Don't call LED lights PC hardware. It's a gullible moron thing; marketing.
>The other day I had to describe what new PC hardware was like now with mechanical keyboards and such
i was using mechanical keyboards before you were born you little shit
do buckling spring keyboards count as mechanical keyboards?
I have one too. My grandma gave it to me. She went to college sometime in the early seventies and learned COBOL and Fortran back then. She ran her own CPA business in my hometown for most of her life with the model M keyboard that she ended up handing down to me. Thanks for reading my blog.
Your grandma is a cool old lady anon. Good story
What kind of camera was this captured with? Or was it edited in photoshop or something? It has a very distinct feel I can't quite put my finger on. Like Alien Isolation shadows, grain and color palette.
>dwarf hunter
soul
Hunter was so fricking fun back then.
for me it was dorf warrior and paladin, had a friend who rolled hunter because of the cinematic
i just wanted to have a beard and hit things and maybe heal them (and paladins from wc2 and 3 were my favorite units)
is it actually comfortable to be seated in a corner like that?
It was a different time
imo corner desks are more comfortable because you want your arm rests to be at desk height anyways but when your arm rests are at desk height you are very limited in how far you can scoot under the desk with your chair. with a proper corner desk you would basically avoid having arm rests in the first place and scoot so deep under the desk that the desk itself becomes your arm rest. you want the desk to literally touch your abdomen/chest. thats the most comfortable you can possibly sit, at least imh(humble)o.
but try fitting a corner desk in your rooms if its simply not suited for it. i really want one but i cant put it anywhere so ill have to settle for a standard desk
thank you very much for the explanation
Plain ass lays? Really?
Nope, the world is ruined. You can never have that experience again because video games got ruined by normalgays, just like everything else.
Lays used to taste better. Food in general used to be of a higher quality.
I still play Guild Wars (pre-Searing only).
WoW is one of the biggest reasons gaming went to shit
Idk if WoW is the reason every rpg that comes out feel like absolute shit I think you're just moronic.
i go back every single night when i play all the games i never played when i was growing up. there are literally thousands of them. i will never run out of things to play and i will never give a single cent to the AAA zog industry that has completely sucked all fun and creativity out of my hobby.
based and same, I have everything up to PS2 emulator
Me, but PS1. The PS2 was the start of the end.
it is, but theres still some gems. just like these days a good game may be created seemingly on accident
dont let displays stop you from enjoying games and stories
Based. I only play games released before 2010
That's really unfortunate, you're robbing yourself of a lot of really good stuff by arbitrarily choosing a date like this.
Might I suggest using other criteria?
I also play mostly emulated games from the 5th and 6th gen, but there's still plenty of great stuff coming out. Last week I had an absolute blast playing NieR replicant
Exactly.
There's a lifetime of old PC Games, and another lifetime of old console games.
If everyone played old shit instead of playing every new game, the industry would magically change and we'd have a golden age.
When I see people old enough to know better (read: over the age of 25) posting about how "there are no good games coming out anymore" I just have to baka my head. Those are the words of someone who likes buying video games more than playing them.
Those two things aren't opposed to one another. I play old games all the time. That doesn't stop me from having an opinion on the trash that's coming out now.
Fair enough, but I hope you get what I mean. I have to imagine some people wringing their hands about the lack of new game releases have backlogs they could play.
We're all genre limited more than anything else. I just don't like a good chunk of either catalog.
Sure, but who cares? Is one of them here? Find me one and I'll agree with you, but until then you're just criticizing people you have imagined up in your head.
True, and that is one of my least favorite kinds of posts to read online so I apologize.
That's what I'm unironically doing right now.
everyone that agreed with me is based.
im off to continue playing through lunar 2
This chick is cute and has a big ass.
what's her name
Sabrina. She is a witch.
Melissa joan "Drug addict" hart.
Breonna Taylor
Yep this was my childhood more or less.
t. 35 year old
frick I miss the 90s so much
Very similar to my childhood setup. I should ask mom if the still has my spaceship lamp thingy stored away somewhere in the house.
>even has that stupid light up thing on top of the TV
Jesus Christ, it's like someone took a picture of my house from two and a half decades ago.
I want that N64 game holder
Worst thing about getting older and Vidya is seeing the industry and companies regress where gameplay and new ideas don't matter anymore and instead it's about graphics and mediocre "le deep" writing in "games" that take away more and more control from the player. Also all this "gamer" marketing garbage.
>Also all this "gamer" marketing garbage.
A thread last night pointed out that changing the language used on forums would create two parallel demographics. Just calling a certain genre of games "walk and talks" incites ire among casuals. The word "game" is too loaded at this point and we need a new paradigm.
Nobody called themselves a "gamer" when I was a kid, teen, and young adult and absolutely nobody called it "gaming". When I stated hearing those terms I was also hearing the CEOs call customers "consumers" (especially that fake homosexual Reggie) and the devs were now calling people "gamers" instead of players. When every E3, every big AAA pile of shit had to be called "an epic experience".
They created an identity, which is a very powerful tool. That's why I'd rather redefine in healthier terms and pinpoint exactly what people like and don't like. The problem is it can't be pretentious, ludo enjoyer makes for some dank memes but misses the mark. Just separating games from experiences and identifying the tropes would go a long way towards killing all the propaganda, but board culture is banned because it alienates ad revenue...I mean newbies and phoneposters.
>Nobody called themselves a "gamer" when I was a kid, teen, and young adult and absolutely nobody called it "gaming".
I hate that shit
hearing anyone use the words "gamer" and "gaming" makes my guts twist
no video game ever had a "thank you for gaming" message in the credits
it really feels like some post-ironic shit
>"Yeah I do some gaming in my spare time"
These the are people that only play the flavor of the month or watch streaming exclusively.
Well, you're sure as hell not a playa.
I'm not a playa, I just crush a lot.
same with this "gamer" shit
i dont want to be associated with that word at all, i play PC games for fun
the only ones ironically using that are some people calling others "what a gamer" in my wow-classic guild
I recently got an O'Reilly book about vidya AI from 2004, and in the intro chapter it was being really optimistic about the future of vidya AI, speculating that machine learning (I think it used a different term for it but basically that idea) would be used to fine tune AI for each player to make games be more enjoyable, but in the years since the book was written I've only really seen that in Amiibos in Smash. Feels like video game AI has just been getting worse over the years, especially from my /vst/-centric POV.
>Nobody called themselves a "gamer" when I was a kid
I remember seeing the term in the late 2000's, but mainly to describe either players in the MLG or hardcore gamers in the old sense of the term. Then the "casual gamer" became a thing (I still remember the spread in EGM about it with the pic of old grannies playing Wii games) and from then on everyone was a gamer.
this is why Ganker is pedo central
everyone here has arrested development
you missed your chance at teen pussy forever
speak for your own projecting self, brainlet. I rode the wave and I got what I needed at the time.
same. I could never afford all the PS2 games I wanted all at the same time- so now I just emulate what I can on this PC. I really should get a converter box and get a modded PS2 and play it on an old CRT for the maximum feels.
>you missed your chance at teen pussy forever
18-19 is legal. 16-17 is also completely legal in most states if you aren't a teacher.
Sex is overrated. I don't know why lefties make such a huge deal out of it. It's not that hard to get and it's not fulfilling at all when you do get it.
Because people who don't have it view it as some sort of life affirming miracle, like if they just stick their penis into a vegana once suddenly everything will become better.
So leftists are projecting?
Sex is perfectly fine, but I prefer the cuddling and talking about random shit afterwards.
>this is why Ganker is pedo central
How and why do people somehow bring in pedophilia in every weird conversation? How does that have anything to do with people missing hte old times? I feel like this is only a zoomer thing they like to weaponize the word pedophilia all the time it's just strange
projection and not being able to accept one's self.
Sorry, no.
It wasn't just the games, it was the specific time period and the community too, as present day classic WoW helped many of us realize.
What makes me sad is that zoomers don't know how bad they have it. The days of playing games because it felt like an adventure in a fantasy world or a fun activity with a community you are familiar with are over. Now we're in the era of the atomized player, hooked into automated matchmaking systems, scared to communicate with other players and studying a mathematically optimized metagame rather than exploring it for themselves.
You can still have fun, but the days of being able to find it around every corner are done and you really have to work for it.
>wow in 2004-2008
>some of the most magical gaming moments of my life, tons of fond memories, long nights staying up just dicking around, had several max level characters, rare achievements, raid gear, guild with a couple server firsts under its belt
>thought it was my favorite game ever at the time
fast forward to wow classic in 2019
>level one (1) character to max level
>do it almost out of a feeling of obligation, game is much worse than I remember
>hardly anyone wants to interact, everyone just sprinting to the finish like the game is a race
>can't be bothered to do many endgame activities, all friends want to is dick around and PK people and I'm just over it, raid scene is optimized to the point that it's not even fun anymore, bosses die in under a minute
>TBC and Wrath come out, friends have all quit by then
>sub for one month to each and struggle to even make it to max level
it's so strange how I once considered it my favorite videogame but now I can't stand to look at it
I finally realize how fricking boring the game actually is and how one-note and shallow its gameplay is
In a similar boat to you. I couldn't even make it to max level in wrath classic. quit after the first month. And this was the expansion I was waiting for since 2019.
Agreed with this.I played classic to 70 and played some of BC and really it ended up just feeling like a chore. Run here, do quest, kill these, collect that. Run here turn in. Repeat.
In classic I had friends and my brother playing with me. I did wrath alone and the fact that I was putting in all this time questing and was barely making a dent from 75 to 74 fricked with me so I quit.
The private server experience is unironically more true to the original minus all the bugs. Classic is a bizarre place with mentally ill people trying to tell you what to do. It's like the patients running the asylum.
what the frick
Last laugh is bis for Unholy DK DPS, it doesn't matter that it has defense and parry on it, it's the highest weapon dps that drops in Naxx/OS/EoE. Same thing with Torch of Holy Fire, it has Mp5 on it so you would assume it's a "healer" weapon but boomkins/spriests/eleshamans also want it because well, it's the highest Spellpower weapon. You can call this min/maxing homosexualry or whatever for not just giving the "tank" weapon to the tanks, but the tanks are minmaxing homosexuals themselves for leaving over not getting a drop.
>hardly anyone wants to interact, everyone just sprinting to the finish like the game is a race
Why is it the internet became significantly less social when extroverted normalgays invaded? I played wow and ragnarok online back in the day, and most people were social and friendly. These days multiplayer games are silent at best, and outright hostile at worst. I don't even have my mic plugged in anymore.
It's not that normalgays invaded the games themselves, it's that normalgays invaded the culture of the games. They brought with them streaming and other types of "content creator" bullshit which inevitably lead to people wanting to be the first to do any sort of thing in a game so they could showcase it to their audience of captive forum posters or stream audience or what have you. Accordingly, everyone now obsesses over doing everything optimally or at least close enough instead of going through these games at their own pace. Conversing with randoms takes away from that.
Finally, someone that understands.
One of my recent experiences with the modern internet is the constant danger of getting backstabbed. I've been on the internets since 2000 and only recently found a new hobby in Doom mapping. I only let two people on the planet playtest my maps before I release them after several months of work, and they are both not interested in mapping itself. I do that because the Doomworld forums are a hive of disgusting troons, backstabbers, morons, attention prostitutes and power-tripping admins that ban on a whim. They will steal your shit and publish it as their own, you can't trust anybody anymore. After doing research it turns out that the website was completely different up until 2015, when lefty politics infested this ancient forum, by 2017 it was pretty much over. It turned from a friendly place with banter that used to make jokewads regularly into a SJW safe space shithole where people get permabanned for not accepting individuals that openly proclaim to cut their dicks off. I made the mistake of cooperating with one other mapper, ONE MAPPER and it almost got me banned off the site.
Sadly, this is everywhere, now. Many of the old forums are dead and move to reddit or discord, whom are control by those homosexuals. Even if those forum are up, they will get taken over by those trannies and sjw. Many of the kids coming into the internet are being taught all the moronic sjw and troony crap, so their number will always keep growing. Its a sad state of affair.
I still frequent a few old forums which consist mostly of two dozen grognards who are still into the hobby, and the odd new zoomer who wants to join. A pattern I've seen is that often, the site admins have long abandoned the website, and so the passionate moderators cannot make changes to anything, which leads to long-standing problems not being adressed, which kills the forum over time. Making a new forum to move into is also a death blow, because it just wouldn't be the same. All this is even without trannies and SJWs shitting up the place, which also happens, especially if the hobby contains females.
I just want to have my comfy old forums back, where you could actually form friendships IRL.
This is sort of why I'm so surprised that people here bother to make OC with no names attached. Aside from literal screencaps of threads and content that's offensive in and of itself (so no normalgay would attach their name to it), there's nothing stopping people from picking it up and claiming it as their own. Which, of course, has already happened with greater frequency back when Ganker was seen as the OC powerhouse of the internet but now that everyone cares so much about their online identity, it's surprising that talented people don't just make Patreons or social media accounts to make money for the same amount of work.
People have been stealing shit ever since that stupid photo of the pear going LOL WUT
The issue is that the Internet became omnipresent and integrated to real life. People used to "go" to the Internet with the express purpose of connecting with each other. But nowadays everybody is always connected at all times. Even when we're at work or at school or at public transport, wherever we are we have connection to the Internet. MMOs as a result have lost much of their appeal. What is the point of playing a game that is all about connecting with people, when everybody is already connected with people at any given time to begin with? It seems people are exhausted by all this social connectedness and rather want more time alone instead.
Smart phones and social media were a mistake, we haven't even seen the full extent of the consequences yet.
>
It didn't really help that the same normies that made fun of people that were playing games were taking over and goes something e-girlSUCHANERD! or I WAS ALWAYS A GAMERS!LOL! And the companies started pandering to them hard.
>It didn't really help that the same normies that made fun of people that were playing games were taking over and goes something e-girlSUCHANERD! or I WAS ALWAYS A GAMERS!LOL! And the companies started pandering to them hard.
You know I used to feel sorry for the (geek) world that zoomers inherited but now I think they deserve it.
You can't go home because it's not there anymore. WoW is not shallow, but it's built around social interactions and 2004-2008 internet culture so the game simply doesn't work in today's environment. You would need to build a game like it from the ground up and have realm resets with world and item discovery randomizers in place to keep that feel in perpetuity from being optimized to hell. Also to frick dataminers.
I don't want to. My childhood was filled with all sorts awful traumatic events. My life as an adult is so much better.
Why are longtime FFXIV players so well-adjusted, attractive, and successful in life compared to longtime WoW players?
That ain’t the question. The question is why are mmo still legal.
A nurse at the pain clinic I go to plays this game, I hadn't played it before (esp because of the subscription fee, I don't ever play MMOs that aren't free in some way) but I was glad to hear that she liked it.
>mr happy
>mizteq
>xeno
>any of those things
Because they are homosexuals.
I think it's like that for most MMORPG players with a paid subscription. They got their shit together most likely with a full time job so they have enough money to sub to these games
Reading these sad-brained nostalgiahomosexual threads always makes me feel better about myself.
Yeah, I like eating shit as well.
I'm trans btw, forgot to mention that before I posted LOL
About what? What do you feel superior of? I’m genuinely curious.
Why do you want to be Peter Pan?
So I can frick tinkerbell
It's not as if I want to return to my childhood, because most of the things I love are before "my time", it's just that I find so much today to be shit.
Even outside of the genres, music just SOUNDS bad. The production is utter ass. Same with the visuals and direction in TV and movies.
Being Peter Pan doesn't mean going back to your childhood. It means never wanting to grow up.
Your childhood in the 90s weren't better than times are now, just because you have attachment to corporate products that were released at that time doesn't mean it was a good time.
>Your childhood in the 90s weren't better than times are now
Nah. Sorry. Things are getting worse and have been so for decades. Sorry, the Whig view of history was a lie.
The 90s were one of the worst time ever. You are like the people saying
>Why is Disney shit now
And not realizing that Disney has always been an evil corporation and they were never something to be nostalgic about.
>The 90s we're one of the worst times ever.
Why. How can you possibly think that.
Stagflation, mediocre job market with entire industries being offshored, crack epidemic, heroin epidemic, 57 channels and nothing on, 28k dialup, paying for porn.
but the video games were good though
sauce an anon up?
>toe ring
she knew what she was doing
none of these things affected me in any way.
sorry you were a broke, unemployed, heroin addicted crackhead who had nothing to do but jerk off
Are you kidding? crime was freefalling in the 90s, the job market was great, and people's purchasing power was higher than it is today, a home cost like 3 years the median wage. Who cares about slow internet? Back then people were social, playing goldeneye with your friends in person was a much better experience than what online gaming has to offer. If you wanted to see a movie you just rented it and watched it with your family. Offshoring happened decades prior.
>57 channels and nothing on, 28k dialup, paying for porn.
Oh no, I could go have a beer with my neighbor or interact with my functional high trust society instead of jacking off while listening to reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond.
It truly was the worst of times.
>functional high trust society
The 90s had the la riots and everyone was afraid of scary mexicans coming to eat them lmao. The only thing that was nice was it had a sweet spot between beat-you boomer parenting and zoomer helicopter parenting
The internet being slow and shitty was a good thing compared to what it's become now.
All of society being plugged in was one of the worst mistakes we've ever made. People were generally happier and friendlier and much less propagandized when the internet was just a niche thing for nerds.
This is absolutely the truth and believing otherwise is putting your head in the sand. We have regressed as animals. We're dumber, more superstitious, more prone to groupthink and lazier than we were in previous eras.
> We're dumber, more superstitious, more prone to groupthink and lazier than we were in previous eras.
We are exactly as we have always been just in different packaging
capitalists complaining about workers not wanting to slave their lives away in shit jobs for shit pay doesn't really have a lot to do with what i was talking about
It has everything to do with it. Every generation thinks the world is going to end, every generation thinks the up and coming things are the worse, every generation thinks that damn new tech has ruined everyone. The irony is, everything is going in the same 120 year loop it always goes in, but with a different coat of paint.
bruh
This is absolute bullshit. Everything invented before my birth is against the natural order of things, including agriculture. It only got worse since then, and it will never stop.
it's meant to describe idiots. if you feel like you're above that then congratulate yourself at having a wider perspective
Hello Steven Pinker
Back then:
>Damn kids and their rock and roll.
Now:
>Damn kids becoming transsexual drag queens and getting groomed into frickdolls and eventually killing themselves.
History just repeat.
it's just the elites prepping us
you're either a wienersleeve or using a wienersleeve
Their equivalent probably were hippies and them fricking each other so much that we're still feeling the repercussions in STDs to this day
Every generation thinks that because the world consistently gets worse and never better, and this is a trend that hasn't changed for centuries. People only think there were ever any good times because they never knew anything better than the shit that was left for them to inherit, which they will inevitably make worse for their descendants.
>capitalists complaining about workers not wanting to slave their lives away in shit jobs for shit pay doesn't really have a lot to do with what i was talking about
socialism is the dumbest religious cult in the entire world
typical profit margins are around 5-10%
That's all the capitalist takes from you.
TAXES are more than that, yet you support those.
moron.
>typical profit margins are around 5-10%
a capitalist would never be ok with that small of a margin. It is at least 2x, so you're at best paid 50% of what you are worth and that's the minority who can get that far with their skills.
>a capitalist would never be ok with that small of a margin.
It's not up to him, brainlet.
> so you're at best paid 50% of what you are worth
HAHAHA leftists ACTUALLY live in a fantasy world.
I'm not wrong.
https://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~adamodar/New_Home_Page/datafile/margin.html
>An NYU report on U.S. margins revealed the average net profit margin is 7.71% across different industries. But that doesn’t mean your ideal profit margin will align with this number.
>As a rule of thumb, 5% is a low margin, 10% is a healthy margin, and 20% is a high margin. But a one-size-fits-all approach isn’t the best way to set goals for your business profitability.
said the homosexual posting pepe memes
>57 channels and nothing on
more like 5 channels
cable didnt become even remotely affordable until after the millennium, and even then cable still only had 20 channels (5 of them news, 5 of them sports)
Anon the police became more militarized over drugs in the early 90s. They wasted billions on anti-drug programs while allowing said drugs over in troves
The more things change the more they stay the same.
Crime was so much worse back then, America was a legitimately dangerous place from the 70s-90s. The economy was in the process of going down the toilet, NAFTA fricked American industry, etc. Corporations have always been cramming garbage down your throat, it just looked like a better time because you were a child then and didn’t have to deal with the real world yet. 2000s kids feel the same way about the 2000s and 2010s kids are going to feel the same way about the 2010s.
>The economy was in the process of going down the toilet
That's true, but conditions were still far better in the 90s compared to now. The true descension started with the 2008 financial crisis. It's literally only gotten worse since.
>Disney has always been an evil corporation and they were never something to be nostalgic about
For me it's Walt's schizophrenic episodes over Epcot
>yakisoba noodles and rice with an over-easy egg on bread, topped with ketchup
how would you even eat that? a knife and a fork? seems like a big mess
the path we're heading down is no secret anon, we're on a collision coarse for a dystopian corporate future where the air you breathe is taxed. Post 2010 has just been getting worse and worse. But then I guess newer generations won't notice because they've never known anything else, so I can't really blame them for thinking this is normal.
Um, sweetie, the government was tracking your every movement and word said in the 70s as well. Maybe try growing up :^)
you wanna know why things get worse? here i'll just lay it out for you shall i?
a company is created, that company wants to make money, so they start thinking about ways to make money. over years the ways they make money become more efficient and egregious, until eventually the only way they can make more money is to come up with even worse ideas.
do you honestly think the second a company is created they have all these terrible ideas on day one?
the longer a company exists the more new ideas to make money they come up with. this is basic shit anon. the scary part is currently there's no cap to this, there's no end-point to how many new ideas to make money they're going to come up with. this is how and why we're spiraling towards a very shitty future. we peaked at the space race with all the new tech and now we're stagnating and being robbed.
>do you honestly think the second a company is created they have all these terrible ideas on day one?
technically they do occur and usually die shortly after.
Your entire life has been tracked. You should be more worried about being influenced than being tracked.
T. Zoomer
Must suck you missed out on real life anon
Spoken like a zoomer.
>Even outside of the genres, music just SOUNDS bad. The production is utter ass. Same with the visuals and direction in TV and movies
stop consuming top 40 and other charting goyslop and you literally won't have this issue. you have used the internet for decades, you MUST be smart enough to know how to dig a little for gems at this point. i hate this moronic excuse. there's arguably much better shit of literally every medium nowadays, but you are probably too fricking stupid to know how to find it, i guess
couldn't agree more. there's some seriously incredible music that's come out in the last 20 years. some pop music has even been really good.
No anon, but be happy you lived through something like that and didn't get to experience the microtransaction hell children go through today, even though WoW back then might've not been the best example, it was still in infancy regarding these practices.
Videogames is the easiest entry point for marxists. Nope no more going back lmao
Social media was unironically the worst thing to ever happen to our society. You can see a turning point around 2010 when they started exploiting it for social programming.
Especially compared to proto social media like myspace and aggregator sites before the collapse of digg.
20 year olds are already saying this sort of shit about Minecraft, Pewdiepie and how great streamers "used to be"
You are not special.
to be fair, microsoft has killed minecraft.
>We can never go back
What do you mean? There are plenty of 18-34 year old people living with their parents who are unemployed and sit at a computer all day with their long greasy hair and family size bags of chips while wearing a collared shirt playing video games and posting obscenities to the internet.
What happens when you turn 35?
You turn middle aged
Nothing. One of the most autistic NEETs I know is a 42 year old guy. A complete fricking loser who spends his days watching hentai and fapping
A look into Ganker's future
knowing what we know now then no we can't ever go back
>playing a MMO
Why
Up until 2004 MMOs were in their prime.
There pretty much are none left at the original patch level as legal Black folk harass them into closing. DAoC (private) classic had 4000 players up until around 2016.
I wish I got to experience all those old MMOs in their prime, some of my fondest memories were made Anarchy Online
Yes, you wasted your best years on what you tought was the best game ever made, now it's all crumbling down and all that time and effort you put into it was for nothing. Imagine the cope from the people still playing it
wow was babbys first mmo that casualized everything and made it so any 8 year old can find mmos accessible . it killed the genre, ruined it for everyone
tigule's fricking ass ruined everything little israeli rat looking shit deserves his head caved in with a hammer
whats worst of all is that all of Ganker fricking nostalgias over the worst mmo that ruined the genre forever, and pretends it was great. holy frick you dont even know what good is, you're little zoomer shits that grew up on AAA slop made for the lowest common denominator of people to rake in the most cash possible
its why every fricking game is so brain dead and no games require actual skill, you homosexuals worship elden ring the fricking game gives you a check point outside of the boss room and refills your infinite health pots every attempt with no invasions ever
Cope you whiny bitter autist, go fill out spreadsheets
He is right though. WoW did to MMOs what CoD did to FPS
WoW popularized spreadsheet autism you fricking moron
I thought EVE Online was the game that popularized spreadsheet autism. Hell, EVE is KNOWN for spreadsheet autism.
EQ autismos were being spreadsheet gays way before WoW or EVE online existed.
>The man responsible for Overwatch
not gonna lie, Tigole was kinda based before he worked for Blizzard
he had a point. everquest is still my favorite mmo ever but its shitty as hell in some design aspects
the devs catering to them will never not piss me the frick off
almost everyone i played with was pretty casual, yet the devs did everything for the top 5% of players because they b***hed the loudest
I'm too spoiled with modern technology. You'd go back and probably be bored with the slow ass internet.
i just want him back bros...
Don't.
I never played WoW for more than maybe 30 minutes so there's nothing to go back to.
i miss when realms actually had communities
Never truly but we can keep the memories alive in our hearts and minds forever.
I did load up a Classic server last spring through end of summer bc I was doing a ton of WFH and cutovers that required frick all but to be at the computer. It was comfy. Tried 30 mins of the retail WoW and I was like this blows and uninstalled that lol.
I played on this setup for awhile when it originally launched.
Sure we can, just hold on until completely immersive VR combined with AI-generated worlds based on "what is was like back then"
or dont
You will never have anything to look forward to in your life if all you do is look backwards.
How can anyone look forward when they're working more hours and more slave-like than the peasant in the medieval days?
Your work is not your life anon. If anything the past couple of years has shown that employees have the power, not employers.
No, it's not. You just are stuck glued to Ganker all day where everything is doom and gloom.
>employees have the power, not employer
its cute that you still think that.
The pandemic showed that work doesn't have to be your life. It showed that you didn't have to be at the office to get work done. It showed that you don't have to be glued to your monitor 8/9 hours a day to be productive. People who experienced this will not soon let it go.
>It showed that you don't have to be glued to your monitor 8/9 hours a day to be productive.
except those employees are forced back to the office regardless. Try to go solo? Good fricking luck with the recession coming in and many lay off that is currently happening. Doing nothing will not pay for your +1000 monthly rent and food/gas prices skyrocketing.
I live in south America, every single day I go outside everything is horrible and its only getting worse. Economy is ruined, fricking forced mass immigration from shitholes like Haiti and Venezuela, feminists and trannies parading on the streets, violent crime on the rise
Ganker is heaven compared to this hellhole
>when they're working more hours and more slave-like than the peasant in the medieval days?
I hate this historically illiterate meme so fricking much. Anyone who repeats this has NO idea how hard of a live the average medieval peasant had. Sure you had plenty of days “off work” but those days were spent farming your own food, doing backbreaking labor from dark to dark, and dying from things that wouldn’t be more than a minor, easily-treated inconvenience nowadays.
Not him but I only ever say it because of how absurdly angry it makes people.
The western world is doomed. Every year, everything gets worse. This is a fact
Everything good about WoW and MMOs in general was ruined by spreadsheeting metagays and guide sites
this, but how many people in the furure will avoid doing this in other games? I think thats the cycle we asre stuck on we know WAY to much about the games we play.
It's already ruining TCG's for me, everyone just netdecks which ruins those games for me since I can't be creative
Absolutely this.
Every little thing being autistically cataloged in online databases is the real cancer.
Nah, the biggeat killer of MMO's is social media like fb, insta, etc.. The casuals who used to hang around town to chill and chat dissapiered and all thats left is the ultra tryhards. So the Social aspect of mmos died with social media.
MMO is going to have a second golden age tough. Once VR gets better.
>MMO is going to have a second golden age tough. Once VR gets better
Can't wait to become overlord. That's one vr headsets actually become reasonably priced again. The technology to make decent looking MMOs with it is there, it's just accessibility that is an issue I guess.
no mmo player is going to want to stand around in their room and wave their arms around like a moron for a 8 hour gaming session
Thats what I ment by better. That you can actualy use your mind to move the caracter. No one will run and jump in place.
the mmo killer is shit gameplay with modern game design. Most people could bear shit gameplay with the novel idea of an MMO game. As the novelty fade out, only shit gameplay remained, and they filled the gap with more monetization and progression systems, instead of adding what they lacked and improving what made the genre, that is, respectively, better gameplay/combat and more involved social mechanics. Those who use social media are not the same as those who play MMO
>Those who use social media are not the same as those who play MMO
Absolutly trash zoomer take. We wouls literaly run from school to play wow just to do frick all and chat. I had online friends to whom Id talk about random shit in Ogrimmar. I never cared about high lekev gear or raiding other then superficial. And we were the majority of the player base back then. People that played mmos back then sidnt care about maximising stats other then a few tryhars guilds. Most were there to chill, chat and have fun.
I don't know why you people don't play on RP servers. There's still tons of people who are happy to chat all day while playing the game.
I met frickloads of cool people on Classic WoW private servers, Warhammer private servers, Classic-Blizzard, and now I'm meeting lots of cool people on an RP server on Retail WoW.
In my experience it is still easy to meet people in MMOs *if that's specifically what you're trying to do.*
You need to go out of your way to socialize with people in an inorganic way, either by trying to get in to a private chat channel, or striking up conversations with random people sitting in town or questing, or participating in some ingame event where people are socializing.
In the past you would just see someone doing the same thing as you and you'd talk to them, or you'd make a party because you needed someone to help you and you'd talk to them. That's not really the case anymore and it's why these games feel antisocial to so many people now.
Because they are for RP. I enjoyed chating and meeting people. Not to talk to a guy pretending to be a drenai futa...
Wii have shown that its just a gimmick and nintendo went back to just normal controls with switch
Wii showed us that vr is just a gimmick? What are you talking about?
Gimmick. Unless you're actually jack into the system, VR is just a gimmick. Everyone thought Motion control is the future when the Wii got release, but it died down soon enough.
Those are two completely different things. VR is a steadily growing market, it's here to stay.
Wii motion was shit. It was PS Move that made it actually precise. Sony had the tech in 1999 but they decided to perfect it instead of releasing a gimmick. And now motion is a big part of VR which is only growing.
Elysium (WoW private server) was alright in 2016/17 or whenever it was. It's not that clear cut. And I don't think they're really comparable mediums.
>Nah, the biggeat killer of MMO's is social media like fb, insta, etc..
Why is that a bad thing? MMO's are built on socializing. That's why it's an MMORPG.
They were built on nerds socializing
Nerds.. Can't use social media because.. ??
>Why is that a bad thing
I dont get what you are asking.
Its bad because social media killed the social aspect of mmos.
It's a combination of games that were designed around the player not having access to everything is to know about it colliding headfirst with wiki culture and talking with people online no longer being a novelty.
The things that MMOs did well - skinnerboxes, socialization, large explorable worlds - are all now available elsewhere, in games that don't require a monthly subscription, and people are much less interested in talking to a stranger in a game than they were in the past.
The games that have survived do so because they fulfill a specific niche, like FFXIV for example is basically a JRPG/VN inside of a Second Life-tier social ecosystem. People are playing it to make their characters pretty and follow along the story.
Runescape survives because of its dedication to autistic grinds. Everyone playing it loves the slow incremental increase of numbers and the chance for something rare to drop after your 1,000th boss kill.
Meanwhile games like Fortnite and Apex and LoL have taken the PvP side of those games and made them something you can hop into, play for an hour and hop out, and then gacha and modern action RPGs basically all have item and gear upgrade management like an MMO would.
The only thing still unique to MMOs in a gameplay sense is probably raiding, and that seems to be what people are really focused on these days, those who still play MMOs.
that stuff has been available since forever, wowhead even rolled in all the ancient comments from allakhazam and thottbot for your viewing pleasure.
related to it thought i think is that the devs began to expect players to metagame, and started designing and balancing with this in mind.
thottbot didn't have everything
This but every game ever now.
yup. youtube and easy access to info and discussion online ruined a lot of mystery.
mmos just arent fun anymore because 95% of players just copy guides or risk getting bullied/mocked by others doing the same thing following the top 1%.
back when i played daoc in 2002-2005 i could play whatever the frick i wanted and whatever spec i wanted and ALWAYS find people to play with. sure there were "the best of the best" players but most people weren't like that.
now free shard daoc servers are basically meta AIDS, as are most mmos.
>Autistic spreadsheeters try to do non MMOs
>Turns out all their information is wrong or hearsay
It's an inevitability, which is why MMOs shouldn't go on for 5 whole years, let alone 20. The refresh of moving to a new game is the only thing that ever kept it in check in the first place.
No. Afraid not.
what is wrong with you homosexuals. the consoles didn't go away. the games didn't go away. the music didn't go away. you can still watch shows from the 90s. you can still play older games. you actually can go back and it's relatively easy. sorry it sucks that you're an adult now and mommy doesn't look after you any more but it doesnt stop you from consooming all the things you used to consoom.
The nature of online interactions in old MMOs is never going to come back. Even the nature of old MMO content is gone forever. That's what sucks.
I'm not crying over N64 and SNES games because I still play them and they aren't going anywhere. But there are some things that are lost forever.
The magic of those times went away, simple as that. It's not just the games themselves but the whole eras surrounding them.
The problem is games being made now suck and the games back then are no longer produced. Emulation is an imperfect mimic without the original hardware and controller.
As for online games, their servers are kill.
Then make your own server and invite people you moron.
i was playing on a WOW private server for a while, but i stopped when it mentioned needing other players to do dungeons. is this a big focus of the game, becaue the private server isn't exactly busy with people.
It is, either find a guild that might be half dead or you won't see those dungeons, ever.
Depends which expansion it is
I have more access to games now than ever, why would I go back?
I'm doing pretty well at the moment, couldn't give less of a frick about the past. And I've been playing Silent Hunter 3 for 12 years straight
Why
>And I've been playing Silent Hunter 3 for 12 years straight
fricking based. I need to find my old install and mods folder of that game and reinstall it. Nothing beats the fricking mood of silent running 90 meters down and hearing the ominous *ping* start happening
>games are still there
>communities are still there
It's all still there. Maybe you should've gone to church this morning instead of wallowing in depression you bored ape.
If you think it's "still there", you were never there.
>Command and Conquer is still alive
>PS2-gays still hang around
>Other Chans and forums still exist
No, you moved on. You guys really are just petty downers.
Unironically, touch grass.
remember pagers?
I miss being a cute teenager and girls being nice to me ;_;
I'm fat and bald now, its so unfair
Work out and shave your head maybe grow a beard. Girls will start being nice to you again.
i wish i could enjoy games with bad graphics but most of my old favorites are unplayable to me now
The final blackpill is realizing it never even began and it was always over
CRTs used to go for 5-10 €
sometimes people would give them away for free
but the demand has increased and these cucks are raising praises
same with games. God, I'm kicking myself for not buying some older vidya before the prices would soar. Even a moronic granny can look up the average price of anything and upsell like any collectorgay.
Retro games are a speculator market now.
Anyone who wants to play old games just uses flash carts and emulation instead.
>Find old picture of me sitting in front of my desk with that same dell monitor
>Compare with modern picture where I'm still sitting on the same desk, same position, but without the CRT.
Never left
>mmo
if there's one game genre that deserves to die is that one, more than mobas or battle royales
Why
it's a genre that only rewards how many time you wasted on it hoarding gems, not your actual skill
you're free to prove me wrong with some game that's not like this
this isn't comfy
this looks like eastern europe depression
>chest freezer in room
>he doesn't have on site hot pocket storage
Bro, do you even game?
shit wallpaper
what is it
worst girl of seto no hanayome
How does American depression look like?
The same but you're fatter and less drunk
when will you frick off? no one wants to see your awful living conditions with your unwashed sheets and thirty year old shit hardware you fricking wienerroach. how’s that literal slop you eat taste? the one you eat in the same fricking bowl every time? you make me puke
i don't come here often enough to recognize this but it's really funny to me that you have haters
idk, looks good to me
cute kot
your cat is very kissable
cute cade, also i like the heart stickers on your computer
I thought there was some funky shit going on here until I realised the desk is made of glass
This would be really cool without the random hearts on the monitor
NOOOO 90S!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME BACK :~~*~~*((
No. There's no point in going back. The only time available is th present. You can still build a present moment that doesn't suck
The 90s innovated on another form of good times. The present time indeed needs to do the same but for what feels like the last 6 years have been drab.
>played a night elf hunter(kek) in beta named RazielXZ
damn I was a little homosexual
By "going back", people think they mean experiencing something from the past. But what they actually want is to again feel the optimism for the unrevealed future they had at a point in the past.
Now that you know the future as the present and it's shit, you can't go back even if you had a time machine.
WoW sucked shit though.
I just want to go back everyday with everything I know now and do it right this time. How come this has to be impossible bros....
VGH, MY TEENAGE YEARS.
>stop enjoying that immersive, social, and functional hobby you have there
I would have offered less free rune armor trimming if I knew what we had wouldn't last
i wonder if game devs will just remove this stuff in 10 years when everyone realizes how stupid it all was
and thank god for that. Rejoice for my desk is huge, my posture perfect, my monitor HD and I am not wasting away playing the 2000s equivilant of goyslop. At least find something good to be nostalgic about.
Enjoy your time and families anon. Shit goes by fast.
advantages of being born on a 3rd world country is that this phase got postponed a little which allowed me to enjoy it a little longer, got my internet in 2005, much earlier than most of my friends, but I still went to lanhouses to play tibia, cs, priston and quake, up to 2012
No.
;_;
Holy shit I thought that was me
the 90s and early 00s really was the best time. I was born 91, I wish I had been born like 83 instead, but I'm glad I got to experience what I did.
I feel terrible for zoomers that had the fricking 2010s as their decade
Fellow '91 here, being born in '85 would have been perfect, I don't remember jackshit about 1999-2000.
>, I don't remember jackshit about 1999-2000.
That's possibly because 9/11 was such a huge event that it overshadowed everything from that era, even the y2k bug frenzy
You seriously don't remember UT99?
funny how this works, I was born in 85 and wish I had been born in the 70s so I could have went to better concerts
I'm playing Guild Wars 1 with my brother right now and having more fun than I had playing it with him when we were kids, because we actually understand how the game works now and can play all the content without getting filtered. Just stop being a loser and the present/future won't seem so dark.
I wish I could play GW still without 300 ping
Does this dude use his hair to wipe his hands when he's done with those potato chips? Looks like if you dropped a pillow case on his head it would leave a stain
>anons hair is so damaged and frayed due to mistreatment that even in direct camera flash it has no sheen
You can get a CRT and grow your hair out quite easily.
But there aren't any clubs and I'm too lazy to find friends and start one
Ugh...
nostalrius in 2015 is unironically the closest we have ever gotten and the closest we will ever get to the feeling
I am thankful to not have become like picrel
>ywngb
This was literally the only thing I played from 2002-2009 I had over 13k hours played I stopped. I miss it so much
I think I'm gonna play myself a game of x hero siege tonight thanks to you anon.
have fun!
Thanks anon
Do you still play WC3 every now and then?
>-apem -high skill - no leavers!
I'm starting to ditch my phone more and get rid of anything resembling social media, which is really just Ganker at this point. I mean it's not like you can treat yourself like a kid or think of yourself as a kid, but there's defnitely another way to avoid the crushing hellish negativity, anger and depression the modern world wants you to feel. Reading books, playing cool games (and not really even bothering to look up anything about them, much less the opinions of others) and being just letting the world become a little more mysterious. Besides, I have a fricking profession to focus on too. All the best to you anons with pure hearts.
A word I've been hearing thrown around is "whimsymaxxing," trying to look at the world with the same wonder and appreciation a child does.
Try to just enjoy small things and see if there's anything new to learn about the things you're interested in, or try harder to be genuinely interested in things. Appreciate the world around you rather than letting yourself get caught up in cynicism.
>Appreciate the world around you rather than letting yourself get caught up in cynicism.
Basically just that. It's not even that hard to do, I've found. I'm nearly 30 so I'm not going to look at the world like a child does, but I'm certainly going to be happy I'm alive and healthy and have the capacity to do all of these wonderful things. Anyway, it's a little late so I must sleep, but good tidings to you anon.
Take it easy friend.
>A word I've been hearing thrown around is "whimsymaxxing," trying to look at the world with the same wonder and appreciation a child does.
Psilocybin mushrooms helped me a lot with this.
So this girl is like 37 now?
Yes. I'm still older than her
I'm turning 40 in less than 400 days and this thread destroyed my soul and triggered a midlife crisis.

Those f'ing hutch desks man.
DOAC we used to play that shit in engineering tech class bc we'd be done with the work in 10m and the computers were all unsecured lol.
Soul. I played through all of NWN, BG and BG2 last summer.
Sophmore year of college right there.
Kino
VGH I used to stare at this for hours because I bought Kotor 2 and my fricking PC at the time couldn't run it.
nostalgia is cancer, you must learn to move on

I miss this era. I grew up around the tail end(born in 95), so i didn't do cool shit like LAN parties, but i did play alot of Star Wars Battlefront on my moms PC when I was a kid, and i actually met some nice people there. It was super easy to just strike up a conversation with someone during a match back then, and it seems now people rarely ever wanna actually communicate in online games. they just wanna play. really hurts the experience, and i wish i could go back.
Here, have a pic of one of my old cats resting on my 64 back in the day.
i love old photos like this, reminds me of days gone by. cute cat, by the way.
Don't be sad it's over, be happy it even happened at all.
No, but we can make new memories and keep finding things about life to enjoy. I'm of the opinion that I actually have to do those things, otherwise I'll go nuts.
I wanna raise a family of my own someday; that's what keeps me going.
no shit, homosexual
it took bli$$ard grifting you with wow classic to realize you can't turn back time and go back to being young again?
I know we're all on Ganker, but if you haven't gotten brain damage, and you felt it then, you can still feel it now. Just train your mind and self to react the way it did back then.
I don't need to, I can just play these games in the current year
Opening the door to the Butcher still gives me chills.
Kino box
Nice dude. You like D2? How'd you feel about D2R?
>I WANNA GO BACK TO THE DAYS WHEN WORLD OF WARCRAFT MADE ME A REAL WOMAN
okay but kys
Not only can we not go back, the worst is yet to come.
10 years from now people will be pining for the days of rgb lights and gaming chairs
No.
After you get used how low frame rate look on LCD panels, CRT gets quite painful to play certain types of old games on.
Now 60 FPS looks better than LCD stuff
No. No we can't.
I know your feeling... It is hard to move on. :S
that floral PC case is something else
Contact paper is a hell of a drug when done right.

I had an absolute blast. I prefer a bit slow internet cuz the fast internet just killed the lan party.

Be the change you want to see, I guess.
Go on, be interesting.
I haven't been remotely interesting since I was a child. They beat that out of me. Now I'm just a boring depressed adult.
10 or 20 years from now, you're going to say the same thing about the time NOW. Cherish the moments you have NOW. Create memories you will cherish in the future.
Untrue. That's why there's no nostalgia for anything post-2010. There are times when the culture is simply decadent and not worth much.
> there's no nostalgia for anything post-2010
For you. I've seen people feeling nostalgia for 2011-2013. I have yet to see people nostalgic for 2014, gamergate, 2015, 2016 election or other newer shit.

difference is i've never been banned for racism in my 18 years here but i'd be perma banned in less than 30 minutes if i did that on blizzard's forums now
>Internet is a massive place anon
not nearly as massive anymore
They're still around you have to look harder Internet is a massive place anon
No anon, we can only go further down the gutter
It's probably your fault if those times ever left you, my child.
While I did enjoy the early 2000's my life has always been shit so I'm truly okay with everything being shittier now. Going back would be even worse for me.
Nostalgia for video games is pure unfiltered cringe. You can play those games any fricking time you want to. Imagine wanting to go back to your youth just so you can waste it again sitting in front of a screen mortgaging your future health and happiness.
>implying health and happiness were ever reasonable expectations in canaanite piss world
Are there things I could have done different? Maybe, I guess, if I were to defy everybody around me. But I'm not so arrogant as to think my actions would have had much impact on society around me.
You can't go back home to your family, back home to your childhood, back home to romantic love, back home to a young man's dreams of glory and of fame, back home to exile, to escape to Europe and some foreign land, back home to lyricism, to singing just for singing's sake, back home to aestheticism, to one's youthful idea of 'the artist' and the all-sufficiency of 'art' and 'beauty' and 'love,' back home to the ivory tower, back home to places in the country, to the cottage in Bermude, away from all the strife and conflict of the world, back home to the father you have lost and have been looking for, back home to someone who can help you, save you, ease the burden for you, back home to the old forms and systems of things which once seemed everlasting but which are changing all the time--back home to the escapes of Time and Memory.
The world you knew no longer exists
fricking dickhead has his bag of lays chips right beside him too of course can't forget those
the real question is whether said person is still alive
>be dead
>pic of you is being used to make Ganker threads in 2023
I guess it's a decent way for your name to live on at the least...
The most you can do is become a hermit and isolate yourself as much as possible and just pretend it's the 2000s (or other period of your choice) with your vintage Windows XP PC and shit. I'm actually intending to build one.
Wake up anon
That picture was taken in 2020s and the girl is in her 30s.
>Slavic bush war

I hope we will never go back
All of this is true of today except for the monitor size.
It's not our fault we can't truly go back. Normies won't LET us, because they control the industry now. Games used to make fun a priority, and the atmosphere of the times (which is what we really want back since the games ARE still around) reflected that. Fun games are made by people with fun personalities, boring games are made by boring people. It's that simple. Normies are boring as frick and really got their claws in deep within the industry around 2006, give or take. Fast forward to now and there's less style and flair for a vast majority of games. Why? Because with every passing year, more people who don't LIKE video games are working on video games.
If only you knew how bad things really are.
>Sam Maggs
Oh, but that's just it, anon: I do know. Ratchet & Clank was one of my favorite series when I was younger, and this dumb b***h had at least somewhat of a hand in writing the new one on PS5. She was unhinged enough to actually get fired over it though (she claims she left Insomniac on her own, but I don't fricking buy that for a second considering how mad she is when she brings it up and the fact the final game left her out of the credits). She had an autistic meltdown over the concept artists giving that fem version of Ratchet breasts, so that was at least kind of funny to see, in a sad way. (Would have posted the "lombax tiddies" meltdown but for some reason whenever I try to post an image in this thread, the post never actually appears.)
Never was much of a fighting game guy growing up, could never get inputs to come out consistently and back then I'd usually just move on to a different game instead of just gitting gud. I've got a few friends who are into Guilty Gear though, and I felt their souls exit their bodies once we all found out Bridget got handed over to the trannies thanks to Strive. There's really nowhere to run except back to the past or combing the indie scene, and even that's questionable sometimes.
God what an annoying piece of trash
I frickin know, right? The concept art's public by now too and it's the tamest shit ever.
>I-IS THAT A... CURVE IN THE CHEST AREA?!
>REEEEEEEEEE STOP SEXUALIZING OUR NEW CHARACTER!!!
Like the furries didn't go nuts with her anyway after all the whining got her changed to be flat.
Video games are about narratives now anon. These normie morons throw tantrums online when FIGHTING games don't have a story!....
Obviously fake/recent but good attempt. No way cameras at that time were that clean though
>2004-05
Digital cameras were already prolific back then, and that's about the expected quality they produced. Most people weren't running around with polaroids.
