    Thoughts on the updated graphics?
I actually liked it, reminds me of the old renders

It has the same issue the GTA remaster did: They've upgraded character models but not animations and particularly facial expressions.
You could get away with Lara staring blankly into space and her arms swinging robotically when she consisted of about 8 pixels. Your imagination filled the gap and it worked fine.
But in HD with sharp edges and tessellated models, it looks ridiculous.

Same goes for keeping the same blocky grid-based levels and just making the texture sharper, and giving puzzle pieces more polygons while still letting them suddenly teleport into place after Lara plays a generic animation. It's incredibly lazy and the result is bizarre.

The animations are fantastic, what the hell are you talking about.

          lmao, talking out your ass

Nah. Look at 13s- those are the original idle animations. They looked okay on PS1. With higher quality assets she needs to look more alive than that. She should be looking around, taking in her environment. Her hands should actually be connected to the snowmobile's controls instead of just floating around in roughly the right spot.
A couple seconds later, she should look scared as she runs from those traps (and ideally should have a completely different animation for "running from grave danger" vs "just generally running around").
          The t-rex looks plastic.
The rubble at 0:34 clips and bounces all over the place and feels like it's made of cardboard.
Puzzle piece (lack of) animation at 0:37.
Jump at 0:39 and the catch afterwards, again no expression.

Granted you don't see her face much while actually playing, but then maybe they shouldn't have made a trailer with those angles.
I can only judge what they've released, and the footage they've released looks goofy.
It does have nice lighting in a few spots (like the jungle and the room after it).

It's literally just an HD asset pack thrown over the original game like a mod
Aspyr is a company that ports stuff, not a full blown dev

              >It's literally just an HD asset pack thrown over the original game like a mod
Yep, and the result is shit. You can't upgrade some aspects of an old title while leaving the others as they were, because it creates a nonsensical and incongruous game.

              >She should be looking around, taking in her environment.
Are you a Naughty Dog employee? You don't understand videogames.

Character animation has always been very important in platformers. Yes it's just a port house so I don't expect Naughty Dog tier sweatshop crunch driven perfection, but... consider what had to happen for this trailer to exist. Someone had to set up these special camera angles, collect all the footage, edit it together, and have it approved by others. Apparently nobody at any point said
              >this is dumb
              >why are we showing closeups of these animations when they don't even look good
              >let's stick to distant gameplay shots focusing on environments with nice lighting, those look much better
              >and since Lara never emotes, let's avoid showing her face as much as we can
The fact that they released this trailer and thought it was a good way to show off their game tells me all I need to know.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the in-engine cutscenes look like in this version...

Retard, look the trailers and pictures. They actually modeled smaller details like the incan symbols or the sphinx's face.

                Anonymous

They've added some more detail but only when this can be done by commissioning some inexpensive extra assets and dropping them in. Anything that would require real effort (like building a new character rig and locomotion system) is a no-go.

I don't mind tank controls, I found it easy to adjust to them, but the first game has been kinda filtering me when it comes to the jumps, for the most part. If you're running, you'll jump after the 2nd step you take (meanwhile you can jump instantly while standing, but the reach is shorter). If you are just a little bit far or mildly overshoot your jump then say goodbye to grabbing a ledge. I know eventually you figure out where to jump and stuff, but it can get frustrating in some parts.

It says it's a remaster, not a remake.

The furthest a remake has come is a fan project UE remake of TR2 that has about half the first level. Been quiet for years though so probably abandoned.

Yeah, I can't recommend TR1 enough especially to people who are Zelda fans. It seems that there's no where near as much crossover between the fanbases as there should be, way too many people seem to have played one and yet aren't really into the other, either due to them being on different systems or being put off by what they seem to think the games are like based on their basic reputation.

Both the platforming based puzzles and the sense of atmospheric isolation really scratch a unique itch.

        this lol

        >especially if you're a Zelda fan that's disappointed with the direction they've gone with the newest games
moron what? The original Tomb Raider games had freeform jumping and climbing that was all player controlled. The early 3D Zelda games didn't have that and were all about contextual shit instead of actual player control. The new ones are the ones that actually let you run and jump and climb where you want. Are you one of those retards who thinks pushing a block and then shooting an eye switch in OoT was good puzzle solving?

I'm a Tomb raider fan, and Tomb Raider ended up being what I wanted and expected from OoT, but was sorrowly disappointed to find an incredibly simple game, with very generic and simple feeling puzzles that feel disconnected from every other facet of gameplay, as well as exploration that is incredibly shallow and rarely takes advantage of verticalut except maybe Water temple.

The level of control that Tomb Raider gives just in the first level of the game so far surpass anything in 3D Zelda that they're not comparable. OoT has you automatically jump over platforms for godsake. The game was LITERALLY made to appeal to babies.

Tomb Raider scratched that itch of genuine unadulterated adventure that I had hoped to find in OoT from that era. And even surpasses this modern era to some degree, save for Dark Souls imo.

          >save for Dark Souls imo.
Dark Souls has nice level design for the first half, but fuck any 3D adventure game that doesn't have good jumping and climbing controls. It lets the devs get away with gating areas lazily with knee high invisible walls that make level design uninteresting in a lot of places.

            >It lets the devs get away with gating areas lazily with knee high invisible walls that make level design uninteresting in a lot of places.

Dark Souls 1 doesn't really have that. Only really Dark Souls 3 did I notice the knee high invisible walls, but could be bias I guess. And I feel like this is REALLY unfair, because dark souls TRULY has an unmatched sense of exploration and some of the best level design and consistency ever.

I understand what you're saying, and it's why I rate some Tomb Raider levels higher than some Dark Souls levels, because what Tomb Raider tried to do, was crazy deep and complex for a 3D game. But if you're like me, and have genuinely played the games, always with an analytical eye. You'd realize that not every level is a St.Francis Folly or Palace of Midas. There's a surprising amount of linear and largely straightforward/combat heavy levels, that don't take interesting advantage of Lara's movement in that puzzle like or precision platforming sense that's unique to the series. Yes, they ALWAYS have more jumping than Dark Souls, but the consistency of the levels suffer for it.

I love both, and rate them about equally in my head, but when I try to look objectively (as much as can realistically be about videogames) the bad or subpar Tomb Raider levels, are very plentiful, especially in the second game, and the latter half of the first. And they can drag out so much, that I don't want to play the game anymore. Dark Souls (1) never made me feel that way.

              >Dark Souls 1 doesn't really have that.
It's not as bad as DaS2 is about it, but it still has a lot of areas that feel like they lack real verticality and freedom of movement because your movements are so inherently limited, especially compared to something like Tomb Raider.

              >Dark Souls (1) never made me feel that way.
Dark Souls level design is carried mostly by the interconnected world. That's what made exploration fun, and that gets a lot worse after Anor Londo.

                >Dark Souls level design is carried mostly by the interconnected world.

what? no it's not? did you not understand dark souls at all? level design isn't the same as world design and isn't even remotely connected the fuck? you're spending 90% of the game stuck in the levels, and the game is largely linear your first playthrough and throughout. anyone who's a dark souls fan or NOT a retard would realiz that: bonfires, estus, combat, shortcuts, and boss runbacks are what defined the gameplay and the series in the beginning. the level design and exploration is appreciated largely for that moment in Undead Burg where you get the ladder shortcut, and your mental map of the level expands and you begin to understand how everything pieces together to navigate it. It's the exact same as Palace of Midas in Tomb Raider except in almost every level, and to a more complex degree.

                >but it still has a lot of areas that feel like they lack real verticality

Eh no. You don't need an insanely large range of movement for verticality to mean anything. You just need "height" to mean anything, and one of the ways that's done, is with fall damage. Blighttown is immensely vertical and complexly layered because you appreciate just how high up you were once you make it down, because of how many times you WILL fall off those dainty platforms in the dark.

Damn, didn't realize some people even here didn't understand Dark Souls lol. It's whatever, I'm bored of this conversation, never thought I'd feel like saying Tomb Raider is overrated Jesus.

You're too far up your own ass while not being able to read to keep talking to. "Level design carried by the interconnected world" means that the individual level design isn't superlative, but that the way the areas are connected to one another helps elevate the whole thing. Everyone knows the difference between level and world design. You're not making a point by stating something obvious and surface level like it's a revelation. If the individual levels of Dark Souls were arraigned like Demons Souls levels, everyone would have called the game a huge step back from Demons Souls.

I know what it means. And I MADE that argument because you made an irrelevant point when I was talking about level design. Level design has nothing to do with world design and the fact that you didn't and COULDNT argue against the reasoning I proposed just proves that even further. I don't care how "up my ass" you think I am. I was right about you not getting it lol. I won't bother since like a retard, you decided adhoms is all you can offer and that you won't engage with a single argument proposed.

Lol this isn't an argument. If you can't establish why anything I said was wrong it's meaningless. I can't genuinely imagine thinking Demon Souls level design is better than Dark Souls. You want to see Dark Souls 1 level design structured like demon Souls? play Bloodborne.

FUCK just giving that last point, I'm realizing even MORE how retarded you are, because the fact that you decided to make that point and didn't think about Bloodborne at all says SO FUCKING much about how little you understand about Dark Souls 1 at a fundamental level lmao.

I should have just pointed out the fact that you Kade no arguments and just appealed to subjective labels to assign to me like "PTDbaby" and "up your ass" as if those are relevant or meaningful. TR1's levels, especially the Greek ones, mog Zelda's dungeons easily, but OoT offers so many varied ways of interacting with its world and varieties of contrasting elements and things to explore and re-explore that it bests even Tomb Raider at its best.

            >many varied ways of interacting with its world and varieties of contrasting elements and things to explore and re-explore
            >"explore" in OoT

lol k. this is why I don't try to talk about games on here, when you can use words so arbitrary to literally mean "you can walk around!" despite so much of OoT feeling barren and genuinely shallow in its movement options, meaning exploring is LITERALLY just walking to and fro sometimes, with zero engaging gameplay or need to understand environment...then you remember that videogames are created for children and there's no point in taking them or analyzing them seriously.

you can go have fun with your Zelda game that will always stay relevant and be made and remade for appealing to baby normies, and I'll still to my Tomb Raider that requires more thought and engagement.

"Ways of interacting with the world" lmao man, I just don't get it sometimes. I'll never understand it, despite experiencing the game as earnestly and objectively as possible. If that meant anything, then puzzles would actually be crazy good, but whatever, words don't mean anything lol, just what we want them to be

They are. Tomb Raider is great but doesn't have anything like Zelda's sidequests, which really are some of the best in all gaming. You'd not going to get anything like the mask acquiring quests of the N64 games in TR, though that's not really a fault of the games.

Absolutely no one who's ever played any RPG or any action adventure game thinks this. Pretending that 10 different versions of the straw millionaire is peak quest design and that this is a known fact is something that only a sheltered tendie who unironically thinks OoT is a masterpiece of game design would say.

                >any RPG
Most quests in most RPGs are mediocre in comparison, you rarely get the kinds of hidden step/interactions you you in Zelda. Like, just using the mask trade in OoT, you have the way the masks each have multiple hidden functions, such as their uses in the 'forest stage', and the way the game has you borrow a single mask at a time keeps this element somewhat hidden, and the purpose of the final mask is something the player is tasked to discover themselves. It's rarely a matter of taking a thing to a specific NPC you're aware of ahead of time and being done with it, there really aren't many games that give you the same level of deep interactions that possibly result in you acquiring new ways of interacting with the world that open up more secrets.

Like as interesting as Tomb Raider's secrets are, they don't offer anything as exciting as discovering all the things you can do with Epona when you get her, or figuring out how to take advantage of the scarecrows. TR doesn't offer the "world that transforms as you discover new elements" that Zelda does.

Genuinely stopped reading there. This is one of the stupidest things I've ever read on Ganker, even counting things that tendies say. MM has some good sidequests (certainly not the best in games as a whole) but to pretend OoT has good sidequests is even more deluded than thinking it has good puzzle solving or world interactions.

Better than what? Shitty item trading quests with one actual solution in OoT? Play literally any RPG, even super casual and popular entry level ones like the PS1 FF games. No matter how hard you try to oversell them, the sidequests in OoT will never be good.

Even the Chocobo Breeding quest was just a big grind that the game tells you how to do because you talk to a character over and over again. Seriously give me something specific, I don't even expect it to be remotely on the level of MM's interconnected events.

what the fuck does this even mean lmao? are Zelda fans making up words like what? How the fuck can a quest be interconnected like a structure or a place? Like what do you mean specifically? And If I'm interpreting it how I think it is. Aren't 90% of quests in all videogames "interconnected" and have multi layered points and objectives. Like do people think the problem with fetch quests is not being layered? There are tons of fetch quests that lead to a bunch of other things, and understandings of characters or mechanics, the problem with fetch quests is that fetching shit is fundamentally unengaging, unless you care about story more than gameplay

                >Even the Chocobo Breeding quest
What do you mean "even"? You're phrasing that like it's a top tier quest when in reality breeding a golden chocobo is a really shitty part of the game that no one likes doing.
                >Seriously give me something specific, I don't even expect it to be remotely on the level of MM's interconnected events.
Quietly shifting from OoT's dogshit quests to MM good ones like they're comparable? Okay, I'll bite. MM has good sidequests but they're still far from the best in general because outside of fail states, they're pretty scripted and linear and let you brute force through trial and error. If you want an example of something better, then look at mobster questline in Fallout 2 for the Bishops. And don't bother replying if you haven't actually played the game to comment on it. If all you can say is "I looked it up and it seems dumb and MM is better because I've never seen NPC schedules before" then I won't reply again.

I get your frustration, Majora's Mask is the only 3D Zelda game I've actually enjoyed for the bit I played, and I can appreciate it's somewhat unique quest design (atleast for an action adventure game, and especially a Zelda game) but that DOESNT apply to OoT, and not only that, but the quests really aren't that deep or overarching. Nor does it suddenly make puzzles or world interactions suddenly good. It's genuinely kind of scary how much Zelda is praised, when it feels so shallow and uninteresting for the most part lol jeez...

FUCKING HELL MAN this guy said Tomb Raider doesn't have this shit, but doesn't genuinely realize how deep it's movement system can be combined with level design, and how you can have "oh shit" moments in the game where you figure out and piece together how you're supposed to progress and realize you could do a certain thing. Should I mention the moment in Natla's Mines where you need to realize that there's a slope you can jump on and hang onto the edge of? Or the moment in Temple of Xian at the end where you have to backflip and turn in the air to pass the slicing blade and latch onto the ladder on the other side?

Holy shit, I'm genuinely realizing that OoT fans are genuinely insular retards, that thing obvious, clearly communicated points of using "items" is anywhere close to as free-form and uniquely puzzley as tomb raider fuck. I always feel so weird rating OoT lowly because whether I like it or not, I can't help but feel like I'm missing something when people rate it so highly, but seeing these responses, I'm starting to realize that Nintendo fans just have a unique kind of brainrot lmao.

Also, anybody notice how that guy mentions questions design in Zelda and only talks about Majoras mask for the most part? Not to mention that the masks have nothing inherently to do with quests and are just a mechanic (that I admittedly like more than anything in OoT)

                Anonymous

Lol I talked almost entirely about specific interactions in OoT, and only vaguely alluded to things in MM, which has even more advanced stuff.

It's like, I've played through Tomb Raider and love it, but I reject the idea that the first 2 games at least are fundamentally on a different level to Zelda in terms of the puzzle interactions they offer as a whole Cistern is way, way more fun than the Water Temple though and I'm happy to stress that as much as possible. Zelda has whole worlds within which things can be hidden in both space and time, along with having dozens of unique items based interactions available, and it does take advantage of these things.

Now, do not get me wrong, Tomb Raider is fantastic, and it's platforming based puzzles where the orientation of Lara's body being important offers a unique and deep element to how the level geometry can be used to hide things is absolutely something it can hole above other games, but it miffs me to see people just discount Zelda when discovering something in Tomb Raider usually means getting a new medipack, and not the possibility of something that changes the way you see previous areas and understanding the game on deeper levels.

                >I don't even expect it to be remotely on the level of MM's interconnected events.

what the fuck does this even mean lmao? are Zelda fans making up words like what? How the fuck can a quest be interconnected like a structure or a place? Like what do you mean specifically? And If I'm interpreting it how I think it is. Aren't 90% of quests in all videogames "interconnected" and have multi layered points and objectives. Like do people think the problem with fetch quests is not being layered? There are tons of fetch quests that lead to a bunch of other things, and understandings of characters or mechanics, the problem with fetch quests is that fetching shit is fundamentally unengaging, unless you care about story more than gameplay

                >what the fuck does this even mean lmao?
How the fuck is it not obvious what I'm talking about LMAO. What an NPC does at any given point changes based on how you've interacted with them at different times in the past, and you solve problems by going back and trying out different kinds of interactions, with many things needing you to do or avoid having done certain things, all the while the NPCs continue to move around and interact with each other, having conversations when you aren't there that you can potentially observe. Even the bulk of the most acclaimed RPGs don't do this stuff.

I like how you like made zero argument, or demonstrated any understanding of Tomb Raider, or even responded to anything I said, and instead just described Zelda with zero substantiation, like a Journalist would for any game. I saw this whole huge word speel and was genuinely scared I'd get an indepth counter but...I just got "It has deep world interactions because...it just does!" Even though every item is literally braindead fucking obvious to use, and it's usecase is often shallow or redundant more than anything.

Lol, can't prove somebody wrong, if they never make an argument I guess. Shouldn't have wasted my time I guess lol.
                >but it miffs me to see people just discount Zelda when discovering something in Tomb Raider usually means getting a new medipack, and not the possibility of something that changes the way you see previous areas and understanding the game on deeper levels.

lol. nobody discounts Zelda compared to Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider us undeniably the more unique and indepth game, and the secrets can absolutely make you understand the movement system and how you can traverse the world and entire game in a different way...if you can figure it out, since they're not braindead like Zelda. Also love how this argument shows that you didn't actually read anything I said, since I gave explicit examples...lol

Also "understanding the game on deeper levels" in a 3D Zelda game...lmao man

how can they have conversations when you aren't there that you can observe...

are Zelda fans just retarded? do they seriously think a scripted event is some genius game design unironically? it doesn't matter about mechanical or interactive depth, If it just pretends that it's "real" ND "deep" like
                >all the while the NPCs continue to move around and interact with each other

doesn't actually fucking mean anything, this doesn't actually make the world or quests deeper since the way this entire world works is In a way where nothing random or natural happens until you interact. It's a facade. Not to mention that dozens of games an RPG's literally do the same, or even just games in general will do a variation of this with Action, like NPC's fighting eachother, or interacting with the world. Is Dark Souls 2 deep for having the undead soldiers hitting that giants tree?

                >with many things needing you to do or avoid having done certain things

also, I don't know why this would matter, since you're not going to be aware of this in a natural playthrough anyway to do anything about it, unless you're playing quests like a math equation, at which point everything you said about "it's deep and real" means nothing since you're just admitting it's scripted.

Like cmon man jeez...I even like MM quests, but the way Zelda fans overrate the fuck out of their games is ridiculous to me...

Look man, I won't fault you for appreciating TR's attention to level design over OoT's, it's a valid opinion to hold, but you also don't have to be an insufferable gay about it. TR was first and launched its own blockbuster franchise that still endures today, it's one of the few mid/late 90s games that doesn't need the pity points from mean old OoT. They both stood as giants in their class.

            >But I can do these 2 dungeons out of order and this item has one use for letting me get to a dungeon early in the overworld!

      >especially if you're a Zelda fan that's disappointed with the direction they've gone with the newest games
moron what? The original Tomb Raider games had freeform jumping and climbing that was all player controlled. The early 3D Zelda games didn't have that and were all about contextual shit instead of actual player control. The new ones are the ones that actually let you run and jump and climb where you want. Are you one of those retards who thinks pushing a block and then shooting an eye switch in OoT was good puzzle solving?

      >especially if you're a Zelda fan
Yeah, I can't recommend TR1 enough especially to people who are Zelda fans. It seems that there's no where near as much crossover between the fanbases as there should be, way too many people seem to have played one and yet aren't really into the other, either due to them being on different systems or being put off by what they seem to think the games are like based on their basic reputation.

Both the platforming based puzzles and the sense of atmospheric isolation really scratch a unique itch.

If you think tomb raider and zelda are in any way comparable you are a retard

      this lol
      [...]

Yes you auto jump off ledges because ZELDA IS NOT A FUCKING ACTION PLATFORMER RETARD!!

Yeah. It's incoherent that Lara's model is round but the environments still have hard edges. If they had made the edges a little rounder it would've less jarring.

That would probably fuck up the platforming or at the very least require some serious engine shenanigans. The levels are designed around blocky grids, it's like asking to add 3d enviroments to DOOM.

Square sold Crystal D and the TR rights to Embracer. Embracer isn't making money so they're literally whoring out Lara Croft to anyone that'll pay for the use of the IP (Powerwash Simulator, CoD, stupid live action shows/movies, etc).

KOTOR was a full remake rather than a remaster, which Aspyr have never done. Pretty sure it got taken off them as it wasn't looking good. Unlike KOTOR2 which was made by Obsidian, Aspyr will have never got the old codebase as EA will have it under Bioware. This is why KOTOR1 doesn't have the updates KOTOR2 has on PC.

I've heard most argue that 1, 2, 3, and TLR (4) were the best of the originals.
Chronicles (5) and Angel of Darkness (6) are considered the black sheep for the originals, but I personally enjoyed Chronicles. Never got around to playing AoD.
Between the LAU games, I've only played Anniversary which was good as well. Some things are better in the remake, like Croft's Manor, and some of the tombs are better in the original. I've heard Ganker praise Underworld quite a bit but I never really heard much regarding Legend.
As for the Survivor trilogy, the games are enjoyable for what they are, but they don't feel like Tomb Raider at all really. They feel more like a discount Uncharted series. Of those, I've played 2013 and Rise, and enjoyed both. Never played Shadow but heard that one was the closest to the original Tomb Raiders than the previous two were.

the angel of darkness is one of the most interesting things in the history of gaming to me
you have one part of the fanbase which loves it for its direction and another part of the fanbase which hates it for its direction
it's like, why is it so divisive? the (original) story and atmosphere is obviously very high quality but is that enough to keep the original fanbase that are used to something totally different?

A portion of the TR fanbase is too autistic and just want TR1 on repeat, making them unable to see how kino the atmosphere and direction of Angel of Darkness is, despite it being barely finished.

in their defense, the first game has the strongest connection with the name of the game - tomb raider
every place you visit in the first game contains a tomb

      Good.
I want Lara to be an adventurer, not a Jason Bourne/Ethan Hunt.

She was already an adventurer, for five games straight. CORE thought there was nothing left to do with Lara after TR3, people's interest in her was what made them continue making games and what made them make TLR be a far more personal story because there's only so many games you can do about "random tomb" before you run out of creative steam. Chronicles is the result of said creativity hitting a wall, with the awful Ireland levels boring non-continuous Rome and buggy VCI. Not only was AoD a breath of fresh air and a way to expand the mythos of Tomb Raider, it also did have fucking tombs. What was the entirety of the Louvre and Hall of Seasons, if not one giant tomb? No more ancient tombs than the streets of Venice, London's subway or Area fucking 51.

        >Not only was AoD a breath of fresh air

Yeah? And so was 2013. That's not the point. I don't know why you guys can only see thongs so surface level. Lara still had a number of ways her movement or level design could be developed, and TR5 SHOWED that in VCI. I don't care for your retarded biased "I don't like it so it's bad!" The justifying of AOD is EXACTLY what justified and led to the entire series' identity being lost. Anybody who talks about "OMG NO TOMBS!!" is retarded and shallow Tomb Raider is a videogame first and foremost, and it's unique movement system combined with its level design and "exploration" being the puzzle is what made Tomb Raider Tomb Raider. I don't fucking care whether the retarded normies only actually like Lara so moving in a "personal" direction was the move. That's the exact same retarded philosophy behind the Legend Trilogy and Reboots. FUCK people like you absolutely and genuinely.

I don't fucking care about "atmosphere" or "kino direction" beyond how fucking subjective and arbitrary that is. The classic games had a pure adventuring atmosphere of their own, and a engrossing sense of isolation. So "atmosphere" is a retarded argument when I can appeal to that too. Talking about this retard:

A portion of the TR fanbase is too autistic and just want TR1 on repeat, making them unable to see how kino the atmosphere and direction of Angel of Darkness is, despite it being barely finished.

        >A portion of the TR fanbase is too autistic and just want TR1 on repeat, making them unable to see how kino the atmosphere and direction of Angel of Darkness is, despite it being barely finished.

Anyway. Tomb Raider shouldn't have released as frequently as it did in the first place. Should have waited for the mid 2000s to create a big PS2 release game that took everything from the classic games and expanded upon it. Fuck it, EVEN a fantastical setting where they go all in on the "supernatural" and give Lara powers to expand her movement options would have been better than AOD

Fuck man, I can't fucking believe I didn't realize that it all began with AOD, the fake fans invading and the degradation of Tomb Raider's identity

Fuck man, you retards are so disingenuous and conceited on top actually making zero arguments that it's ridiculous having to deal with you Jesus. AOD's direction could be characterized as a generic shift to that thriller story focused type of game that started around that era, aslong as it's garbage cheesy TV level dialogue, having unironically useless multiple dialogue options, and trying to add rpg mechanics.

Being reductive is beyond retarded, even if I were to accept your characterization of "It's just Uncharted!" for people who had any perception of Tomb Raider at that time it was a breath of fresh air. PLUS FUCK, the more I think about it the stupider I realize you are and that i shouldn't even be arguing. But anyway PLUS the shift in tone to realistic, gritty, mature, brutal, and a VERY personal focus on Lara as a character "not JUST a backstory like AOD or TLR" was new and refreshing to people at the time. You can literally read reviews at that time from both journos and normies. You just genuinely lack perspective.

Not to mentioned the survival mechanics (no matter how shallow) were not only also a "breath of fresh air" but also distinct from Uncharted.

It's genuinely crazy that I have to type all this up, just to say that "breath of fresh air" is a shitty retarded justification that rationalizes tarnishing the unique identity of classic Tomb Raider, which YOU are deliberately making the argument of AOD being good for NOT being like the classics.

Man, TR5 really had some good ideas and new additions to what Lara could do, that if they just developed on and expanded on (and cut the tightrope walk mechanic lmao) I just think to imagine how crazy a Tomb Raider PS2 debut could have been if not only did they have time, but they actually thought upon the past games, and didn't abandon ideas from TR5 just because it sold poorly.

Fuck man, I just get so sad when I think of how much better Tomb Raider could have gotten because of how insanely good already its high points are, on top of having been a PS1 series...

The graphics aren't great but they're also not the worst thing ever. Ideally they would've also updated the environments to be at least 6th gen tier. But if nothing else is wrong these are probably going to be the definitive versions, or at least a good base for modding

You can't change geometry without utterly messing up the gamepaly, which would be extremely bad.
This is a good approach were you have the 100% original gameplay and optionally nicer textures.

        Anonymous

The textures aren't great and look like they were ran through an AI without any touch ups. I don't think upping the poly count and rounding things out a little bit isn't going to fuck up the entire thing.

          >rounding things out

I love the style. I miss block geometry like you wouldn't believe. Half Life 2, after it's own visual update, is what I consider the most beautiful game out there. Such incredible architecture, genuinely interesting alien design, perfect. And every building is just a block slapped down.

It will be like the PC version of course. Theres zero chance they use the crystals in a 2024 game.

I might buy it on PC when I eventually get a better laptop to play it on this year. I emulated and beaten the Dino Crisis Duology earlier this year so the controls aren't gonna be too strange for me.

How shitty is your laptop that it can't run fucking TOMB RAIDER?

My laptop is lenovo yoga 730-15ikb with a RTX 1050 graphics card. I'm taking a semi break from emulation until I get a new laptop this year (I only play Fortnite on it now) because I can't put up with it anymore. Had it for almost 5 years now and the power button is broken so I have to press the novo button with a small metal instrument in order for it to turn on.

You guys think the remaster is going to be good?
I can't handle more Tomb Raider related disappointments.

I never did play tomb raider despite being a heavy ps1 user back then.
Supposedly they're pretty good, might give them a shot.
