I'm getting filtered by writing. I have an idea for the main quest but it could take the player on so many different places, I just can't decide which ones. It's much easier when you work in a small team.

Think about which places/plot events will be the most fun for you to create and write. If you're having fun, it will flow through to the players, but if you're just writing in a slog, they'll be able to tell it was half-assed. If you can't decide between two choices, flip a coin and pick a side- if the result disappoints you then pick the other option and don't look back.

i don't know what gives the best results currently, but mistral is really good. all the other ones are censored and wont do certain things.

also you can't get anything cool just from a prompt. first you have to feed it lots of examples of what you want, depending on the UI you're using there is usually a separate box for that where you can add instructions, make templates, etc.

      >Wrought Flesh
      >Buckshot Roulette
That's 3 notable games made in Godot, games that went beyond Godot's bubble so to speak. That being said, plenty of what's made in Godot is still on the smaller side because it's mostly used by solo devs and amateur "studios". If anything, this should be seen as an opportunity to make the first real big "godot hit!" and not as discouragement. This is also not unique to Godot, it took a while before Unity built up a library of universally agreed upon "good games" for people to treat it as the go-to for low budget game development.

yeah it is very limited when it comes to 3D. you can't have even a small number of rigid bodies on your scene (like mentioned ITT) because the FPS will just die after a certain point. even something like cruelty squad that doesn't have any complex geometry runs like shit.

          Anonymous

incorrect. it's a matter of good programming, my fps has many moving platforms with massive character physics calculations, all while every enemy shoots out about 20 rigid bodies upon death (health n ammo) and I'm still getting well above 1000fps if I uncap it

godot has been evolving extremely fast in the past 2 years. Sega used it for a sonic game when it's renderer still only supported openGL3.0. currently the engine is about 100MB in size and is capable of the latest stable release of Vulkan and all its included features (hw shading, raytracing, wayland display, composition modulation, 3D resolution scaler, etc.), it has interactive adaptable audio so you can make gameplay music work like nu-doom and new super mario bros, it supports gltf files natively, all input is raw/hw intake so the flaws of UE and Unity dx software handling isn't here, plugins are simply add-ons, and although the front end code language is gdScript (no compile waiting) the client runs in C++ for near direct translation to the hardware.
it's very obvious why people are excited

        Anonymous

people like you are the reason other are wary
this is not even "ironic" shilling, it's just a inane marketing blurb
        do you even understand what
        >client runs in C++ for near direct translation to the hardware
        means? total nonsense

          Anonymous

it's not nonsense. C# is a Microsoft middleware language that requires .NET installations which works by retranslating C code. C and C++ work by feeding command operations to the CPU (and these days GPU directly) which process said directions to bit info.
I know it sounds like shilling, but if you read the bottom, I was clearly explaining why people are interested in it. It has a lot going for it and in comparison to the state of the industry with MS owning 99% of business in it, it's good to see something in working order that is actively being made better every day. Cannot say the same for the Amazon owned O3DE

            Anonymous

And now you are talking about C#, what? I was mocking "direct translation" statement because that's literally every language, it's all CPU instructions at the very bottom. I thought your point was that the engine itself is in C++, but now I have no fricking clue. C++ can be written poorly, C# bindings rely on glue code that ties your source code to the engine functions.
Godot also is far from the only engine with a permissive license and respectable features, but only it gets so terribly overhyped.

i've done that. i open a bunch of projects on the same PC and have they talk to each other. you don't need to set a server for real while you're developing.

              Anonymous

lol i'd simply replace the localhost with the IP of each server, export the project, and then paste the files on the server. it should work the same.

deciding the architecture is only the first step. there is a ton of other shit that i haven't even touched in my project and that are perhaps even more important, like how do you make sure no one is cheating? how do you make sure that everything is synced correctly and with the lowest amount of latency possible for the user? it takes a lot of time to implement these things correctly
also good luck if you wanna stick to godot, have you ever heard of a successful multiplayer godot project? me neither, unreal is at least proven to work and you don't hear of anything crazy like the RCEs that plague games made using the source engine, just to give one example.
i'm only developing this because i find it fun.

it's up to you. c# has more uses and some people prefer it, but if all you care about is making shit with godot then gdscript is all you need. it has a couple very subtle benefits that you won't notice if you don't masked yourself aware of it
