Weeding out trash players

Here's a way to weed out shit players: Introduce a cool item as set dressing, one they will never be able to use.
If they sperg out about not being able to draw the sword from the stone, boot them, they're not the kind of player you want at your table.

Here's an even better way to weed out shit players: Only play with people that you're actually friends with.

That is one way but it isn't a sure fire way. I like to give shitty players enough rope to hang themselves with so I can give them a good kick in the ass while everyone else stands by my decision.

Friends can be even worse to play with.

        >Friends can be even worse to play with
This has happened to me. Good guy, friends for years, worst fricking player I've ever had. And we're not antisocial autists, we talked about it plenty of times. Most annoying, shittiest table behavior I've ever dealt with.

I would never play with my actual friends
They're no good at RPGs. Most are normies, and I pretend to be a normie around them too

Before you do that, ask them if they've ever played DnD, and ask them if they liked it.

If the player says yes to both, they're beyond salvaging. DnD ruins players for life.

I know you’re very keen on your epic OC dounutsteel anon but not all of us want to play your Arthurian fanfiction. In real games anything up to and including killing gods is possible with enough effort.

As if that's going to happen
Gods have stats simply to let the PCs know how fricked they are

Wrong game. The Neravarine isn't a god. The "Hero of Kvatch" from oblivion holds the title of "Madgod" though.

Yes and no, his only real powers beyond what humans can do at the time are timeline hopping.

The whole point of making things powerful if so killing them eventually feels better. Even if players never get to the point where they can do shit like that just saying you can’t and ending the conversation there is shit GM mentality. Even CoC lets you nuke Cthulhu back to sleep no matter how improbably it is for players to be able to do it. That’s why I hate the no stats for gods people. Even if they’re basically unkillable without some major player power spikes beyond what is expected, they can still die with enough effort. Same with the artifact bullshit above. Players should, given enough time, effort, and some measure of luck, be able to anything within the confines of the world. Up too and including godslaying, artifact theft/creation, etc. notably the time constraint means that a game may end before they reach the point where they’re able to do it but if not then it’s on the table. Anything else is against the spirit of RPGs.

Like even given the chance to kill a God you are not going to do it through brute force. It's going to require Death Note or chess master levels of pre-planning and trickery. Nobody has the brains now a days to even get to the Gods relying on just getting high rolls hoping it all comes together.

Yes. Depending on the game I might allow you to brute force it but overall you will have an easier time if you end up tricking the God into accepting something or pissing him/driving him mad to such a degree that the other Gods have to put him down.

Debatable. Depending on the setting gods with stats that a high level player can kill aren’t out of the question. Play long enough and killing gods or god like entities is reasonable. Even before that most long term player goals should be answered with “you can try” instead of “can’t happen”. That doesn’t mean you need le epic lucky rolls, it means you need some creative thinking and effort put towards it.

This isn’t a dnd thing, certainly not a new thing. The story shit has rotted your brain and made you incapable of running a actual game.

Fun trivia, the whole gods can’t die thing isn’t even true in most mythology.
            >Ares almost dies of starvation when some random ass giants lock him in a vase
            >Aisir Vanir die a lot even if they sometimes come back to life
            >Mesoamerican gods usually die by self sacrifice but die none the less
            >Pann died randomly with no explanation at some point
            >Kami can die by mundane means with even the most powerful ones being vulnerable to something as mundane as complications in childbirth or having a horse dropped on their heads
Yeah having them die to mortals is rare but consider that plenty of monsters from mythology that humans do kill are at least related to gods. The whole idea that gods are omnipotent and immortal is the result of Christian cross pollination

      >DnD ruins players for life.
Funny story. I started off with D&D 5E and played it for two years before giving up. Everyone always acted moronic while I tried to plan things out and was aware of the danger. Despite it being a roleplay game I realized that the roleplay options were extremely lackluster and all the classes focused on combat. The DM was abusive and the players spotlight hogs so it did not help my enjoyment of the game. Magic always dominated everything from combat to roleplay and when there was an issue to be solved magic always made the solution easy. Players always doing the most stupid over the top NAT 20 actions like having one guy pray to them to literally ascend to godhood while my character was too incompetent to understand what an edge of a boat is and couldn't do basic shit without saying "mother may I" or the DM taking five minutes to read a single spell when I get one over him.

After playing for so long where everyone including the DM was antagonistic to one another and I hate to use this word but created a toxic environment where players and the DM would just kill each others PC's for no reason with the DM clearly picking favorites. Realizing all this and how the game is only combat I stopped playing D&D and actually did research on other roleplaying games because deep down in my heart I knew roleplaying games had to be more than this shitshow. Now I gag at the thought of playing 5E because I never had a good game of it even with multiple groups, let alone how shallow the rules are and roll my eyes hard when some guys homebrew is just a modified 5E.
