Roughly how many of these games would you be able to beat in 2 weeks?

        Battletoads
        The Lion King
        Ninja Gaiden
        Maximo
        Lost Levels
        That's about it

then i could perhaps finish Adventure of Link. i'm terrible at video games, see

I could easily breeze through both Castlevanias, ghouls and ghosts, and the first Ninja gaiden. Mostly because I alreayd played those games and I am very familiar with them. The rest? Hmm probably I would get stuck and have a great time ( over the two weeks frame tho) playing 7th Saga as I never finished it.

sgng isn't bad if you memorize chest spawn locations. A lot of gold armor spells give insanely long invincibility frames. Only hard part is the second lap needing to use a shit weapon for the last level

        >no guides
classic games like this were designed to be cheap and unfair, and it was up to you to use every tool at your disposal to beat them. Oftentimes, it wasn't really a matter of skill or timing or reaction, but rather just knowing what to do and being smart about it. Every kid at the time was sharing all their strategies and secrets with their friends and looking up any information they could about the game.

        >no save states
save states should never be used for the actual clear of a game, but are fine for practice. These games were excessively padded out to make a short and simple game last for many dozens of hours by being excessively unforgiving, giving you very frontheavy practice, and wasting your time with trial and error. You don't need the padding when going back to those classic games today; you are not a kid back in the 90s who had one game that had to last him for 6-12 months.

Then why choose the shitty NES port of GnG?

I could probably get Adventure of Link down in a couple days, Drac's Curse will EASILY waste a week if we're being realistic because I WILL get lost. With the remaining time, any of the GNGs and Battletoads will fricking ruin me. I have never managed Battletoads without savestates, I'm a shitter.

  11. 3 months ago

Most of these games would take a week. Rondo of blood isn't very hard
Zelda 2 was designed to require a walkthrough
Battletoads was designed to require save states

It's Dracula X on the SNES not Rondo

Who invited The Lion King? That game can be easily beaten in 30 minutes, it's not even that hard.

The SNES version has jank hitboxes that make it almost unplayable.

        Anonymous

If I did it as a kid (it was my first game on my SNES) anyone can do it, you just have to learn it a bit, but the game isn't bullshit, doesn't require some insane precision platforming or timing, it's mostly just "oh, that's what I was supposed to do".

          Anonymous

how often do you see the devs themselves admitting to making some levels stupid to go through just to frick over kids who rented the game

I remember my parents renting it for my brother and I'm pretty sure we managed to beat it before the 2-3 day return date (block buster rentals were short). For 8 year old kids who didn't know what we were doing, it was initially annoying but eventually doable once we figure it out. I remember doing the first level or two multiple times but got through it, something with swinging on hippos or monkeys or something but we did get to the part where he was an adult. We probably struggled with the Ninja Turtles games more lol

Bro, Dracula's Quest is one of the most notorious "what the frick do I do?" games ever made. What are you talking about? Same goes for Zelda 2 but much, much less so.

          Anonymous

You're mixing up Castlevania 2 and 3. Simon's Quest is the adventure game. Dracula's Curse is the platformer.

            Anonymous

Oh yeah, you're right. My bad. That explains why I kept subconsciously typing Simon's Quest when typing that post.

From the list i've beaten (without cheats/guides)

    Mario Lost Levels
Contra 3 JP (i did one time the US Version)
    Battletoads
    Link 2
Maximo GtG (this shit is annoying)
    Dracula X

    With guide or IPS patch
    7Th Saga

    Frick you tier
    TMNT Nes
    All 3 GnG Games
    Ninja Gaiden 3
Actraiser 2 (one of the hardest here)

  35. 3 months ago

idk probably a good 12 of them at least. I'd attempt the G and G games last. Assuming I wouldn't have any responsibilities except for sleep/eat/drink/toilet.

I'm not some great gamer or anything.

Act Raiser 2 on the list

  37. 3 months ago

No. I don't think so. I could do. Certainly not if it's two weeks to do all of them.
    I know I can beat:
    Maximo
    Zelda 2
    the Ninja Gaiden games
    TMNT
    Castlevania 3
    Hagane
    Dracula X
    The Lion King
The 7th Saga (which once you know the trick is not crazy. The game just actively punishes leveling in a way that can break your run.)
    Actraiser 2

I've never beaten Ghouls and Ghosts beyond the first run. Or Battletoads. I do not know what the game second from the right is in the middle.
I fricking hate Lost Levels. I have beaten it, but frick that game.
