      >Joel kill Abby
      Done

yeah the version where joel fricks that ellie girl

      these
just don't kill Joel because he is MORE than just a father figure to Ellie. No, the DLC kiss doesn't make Ellie a dyke.
You could have Joel injured and during their survival Ellie develops much stronger emotions for him. If this game had been made in the 80s by normal people, this is what would have happened instead of insane troony nonsense.

      [...]
Fallout 3 being an actual wasteland, and not fricking run down Nevada (which is already run down in real life).

fallout 3 has way better environmental story telling and atmosphere, its not even debatable.

just ignore them, nvtroons never let go of their history revisionism

nv and f3 are basically the same game
in fact some people used to call nv an expansion to f3, "Fallout 3: New Vegas"
they play the same except new vegas having aim-down sights and some weird crafting system
nobody called "new vegas" better until like a decade later when the original f3 stopped working because of that windows games client it came with. zoomers couldn't play f3 so they just went with youtuber game "essayist" opinion like "what do they eat" etc.

In the same way that F3 is an Oblivion mod, yeah. That's part of why Oblivion is so unstable and fricked: Oblivion's a goddamn mess. It would have been a lot better if it was built on top of Fallout 4 instead.

You're responding to people talking about aesthetics and map design. The fact that they both have dogshit gameplay isn't relevant.

            >Nobody called "new vegas" better until like a decade later
That is just objectively not true. People were jerking New Vegas off HARD right before Skyrim launched.

New Vegas without Bethesda's engine would just be Outer Worlds which was trash.

Dunno about map design but I liked creepy green nuclear atmosphere more than gay cowboys.
And really even map design wise, nv is a fricking horse shoe. It's so linear, you either go left of right at the beginning and that's it.

I don't remember exactly when the nv fanboyism started, to me it feels recent but maybe it was earlier. Either way when nv came out everyone I know just treated it like more of f3. Then again my friends weren't nerds. I can totally see story gays praising it because of the witty (cringe) one-liners and edgy little twits.

                Yeah, and I liked that.
The only thing that really bothered me about NV was the really high amount of very scripted and linear quests.
I still remember how absurd the ghoul space ship quest was. You start off to help some family or something and after the writer inserts his wacky plot he completely forgets about the quest start. Not to mention the quest locked door reserved for exiting, the control-stealing interruption from the interphone, the fact that you can't convince the human he's not a ghoul with science or medicine, only with speech. So many quests are "do what the writer wants or you are bad"

Even ignoring the much better writing, NV is a better game if you like guns
Weapons are lovingly designed, there's tons of ammo options, guns that shoot and sound like real guns, you can even handcraft your own ammo
In comparison, what the frick is this

                that's an ak47
and nv is filled with boring coyboy crap too

                Anonymous

That really isn't true. That quest starts with someone (Jeannie May or Boone's asian sidekick) asking you to get rid of the ghouls
And you can finish it in a ton of ways, you can negotiate with the ghouls AND the nightkin, you can negotiate with the ghouls and kill the nightkin or you can just kill everyone.
The quest has it's problems, like the amount of legwork and loading screens, but railroading is certainly not one of them
Also, you can't convince Haversam that he isn't a ghoul with medicine because he's problem is psychological not psychiatric
                >that's an AK-47
It sure as frick isn't. It has a different handguard, barrel assembly, rear sight and stock. It's chambered in 5.56 even though the AK is for 7.62.
                >and nv is filled with boring coyboy crap too
NV is filled with great guns that people that know and like guns (non homosexuals) can appreciate

You couldn't just buy games on steam for 3$. Some dude would get a game and he'd share the disks and everyone played. You had no choice.
So you learned to enjoy what you can even in games that aren't your favorite genre.
It's the real reason why Warcraft 3 and HoMM3 were so successful at the time. They were boring rts/tbs but they had just enough rpg in them that you could focus on that and have fun.

Abby wants to kill Joel, they get attacked and Joel dies, but saves her. Abby is now morally conflicted and lost while Ellie wants Abby dead. High jinks follow. Ellie murders pregnant woman, gets conflicted, Abby wants her dead, etc. It all culminates at the beach, where Ellie saves Abby from the crucifix but ultimately accepts that she can't be the bigger person and shoots her dead. The cycle of revenge continues.

      Anonymous

I agree this could have easily changed the story for the better. The problem with Abby is that they treat Joel as a disposable character for the plot, but Abby is a unkillable essential character. If the priority was just switched around, Joel would be justified, Ellie gets cold revenge, and Abby gets to be a martyr.

I can at least fix the beginning.

I would extend the opening part out, and have Abby and her cuck crew come into the community Joel and Ellie are a part of. She is fully intent on killing Joel, but since in my version Joel isn't a drooling moron l, she knows she has to play it a bit slower and wait for an opportunity.

Let the opening breath by establishing a relationship between the new characters and the old ones, leading up to some event that requires Joel to take some people somewhere for something, the details can be basically whatever you want there.

Abby and cucks volunteers to go, or even gets picked by Joel to go showing that he has developed a level of trust for her to some degree or another. Abby seeing it as a perfect opportunity to finally kill him.

This already makes the opening where Joel dies less absolutely nonsensical and lame, but I even kind of like where maybe her intent is to kill him, but something happens and Joel dies saving Abby, creating a bit of a conflict, but it then coming out somehow that she always wanted to kill him creating a rift between her and Ellie, who now in my version aren't random strangers, but have more nuance and interesting things to do with their characters than "muh revenge".

Impossible. Making a heroic death for Joel goes against Californian/israeli liberal morality. Even if Joel is a israeli name and can be interpreted as a israeli man, he's still a light-skinned heterosexual man who had a normal family and blablabla. Portraying him as a hero is going against the tenets of these guys' religion.

Abby is a core new side character with an uncertain personal quest. You play as Abby in short segments alongside Ellie. It's the same as TLOU2, but she doesn't actually know what Joel looks like and doesn't piece it together until the halfway mark.
The halfway mark of the game is Abby murdering Joel because despite knowledge of what the "moral thing" is (not killing Joel and backstabbing her new friend Ellie), she's compelled to do right by her family by avenging her dad. Abby kills Joel, flees, Ellie hunts down Abby.
TLOU2's entire premise is shot by the fact that players have no interest in identifying with someone they already hate. You need to make people care about or like Abby BEFORE she backstabs the audience.

Because we already had this thread and there were better suggestions than "swapping the scenes around"
You don't hate Abby because you're introduced to her killing Joel, you hate Abby because she killed Joel. Swapping the scenes around won't change that.
Here's an example of a much better game written by a much better writer
In Soul Reaver (yes we're ignoring BO for this exercise) you play as Raziel, former lieutenant of one Kain, Vampire Lord and God of the Land of Nosgoth, who murdered him and cast him down in perpetual agony. Raziel rises as revenant in search of vengeance.
You spend the entire game trying to kill Kain only for him to escape you at the last second.
Then in Soul Reaver 2, a wider plot, new characters, illuminating conspiracies are all introduced showing that Raziel's quest for revenge isn't quite so simple as we were led to believe. Kain also shows up here an there, not as ally, but not as an antagonist, at least not for now, and we're given time to better know and appreciate him.
Then, at the third game, Defiance, you play as both Kain and Raziel, each in his own path with its own goals, and they eventually clash and their fight is a boss battle where you fight as Kain and Raziel alternating
At this point, you're come to known and appreciate these two characters in similar, if not equal amounts, so the player doesn't really have a side.
Even if you moved the killing to the middle point of the game, who in their right mind would pick Abby over Joel?

Well, I don't you souring on the games because they maybe feature gameplay that isn't in vogue, these days, but I'd definitely recommend then, if I ended up spoiling too much for you
Yeah, Blood Omen is a good game, featuring the series trademark good writing and crazy good voice acting, but it's a diablo type isometric hack n slash arpg, while the others are 3rd person over the shoulders acting adventure puzzle games.
It's not really necessary, because Soul Reaver treats you like it's your first game, but very worth it for the experience alone and the neat callbacks you'll get all throughout the other games.

                Yep. It changed a lot
In pre production was it's own thing, but then Crystal Dynamics bought Silicon Knights so they told Hennig to retool the project into a sequel for Blood Omen, a game she worked in
Everything was supposed to originally fit into a single game. Kain was straight up a villain, and vampires were unambiguously a plague upon Nosgoth. It was also a clear reversal of the classic Paradise Lost narrative. Instead of a vain Satan rebelling against his benevolent Creator, we have a jealous God punishing his son for surpassing him. You killed Kain and the game ended with you ringing the bells of the Silent Cathedral, killing all vampires and allowing the Elder God's Wheel of Fate, that inexorable cycle of birth, death, and reincarnation to which all living creatures in Nosgoth are compelled, to spin again.
But they blew past their budget and time

This. People liked Joel even if Druckmann wanted you to hate him in the ending of 1, so nobody was going to like the b***h who kills him at the start of the game, and then when you finally find her again and kills another ally of Ellie's (that asian guy) and at the time seemingly murders Tommy, since you see her shoot him in the head and he drops.
THEN it decides "We're going to spend the next several hours trying to make you empathize with her."

Literally the same thing but Ellie starts doubting her quest for revenge halfway in and progressively grows more tormented until sparing Abby instead of doing a personality 180 at the last moment

    >Well Ganker? Could YOU tell Troy a better version of the last of us part 2 story?

IT IS JUST A SHITTY VERSION OF THE ILLIAD. THE ORIGINAL WAS SO MUCH BETTER AND HAD MORE NUANCE.

I guarantee you one of two things happened:
    1. Neil Drukman thought he was a genius at subversion for making the Illiad, but replacing it with a bunch of dyke women.
    2. He had no idea his story mirrors the Illiad, and thinks he is writing something completely original and no one has done "Revenge bad not worth it" stories ever.

It's one of the earliest documented ones, and it follows the model that Last of Us 2 also follows:

        >Ellie = Achilles
        >Joel = Patroclus
        >Abby = Hector

        Why the original is better:
        >Hector literally and figuratively did nothing wrong and fought Patroclus in fair combat and just happened to be on the opposite army rather than being villanous
        >Hector had a family that cared for him
        >Achilles has a long period of being mopey, then getting revenge for Patroclus' death
        >He's portrayed as going crazy, with mad actions that are unfitting for a hero, such as dragging Hector's body around with his Chariot
        >Then Achilles has his meeting with King Priam, and it's only then that he relinquishes and for a moment lets Prime take the body of Hector back so they can bury him

The original story just works better, and having Achilles forgive Hector himself and let him go wouldn't work as much. Achilles gets to see that King Priam is an equal, someone who has lost a loved one, and he moves on.

Maybe show a couple instances of showing doubt to the main character's plans. When Abbey goes "I should travel all the way across the country to maybe find the man who killed my dad and then kill him." then maybe her good friend who are highly pregnant should say "You know Ellie, you have a good life and here you are a good friend to me, but right now I shouldnt travel 6000 miles and get into firefights when they baby is about to come." Instead everyone, both in Ellies and Abbeys came go "Yes! Great idea, lets leave everything we have and love so we can risk everything including our lives so you might get your revenge that will feel totally hollow."

This isn't some masterclass advice, this is first-day of writing school: Explore a theme by having your characters talk about it, let them visit different ideas, express different viewpoints. All TLoU2 is two echo chambers saying the same thing. And it still falls flat because when she has the chance to kill Abbey, she doesn't. You could say she learned something, but only then, and not before putting the human population back several post-apocalypse years.Hell, Vampyr had the same problem (only named NPCs matter) and even they had the decency to path it out because it didnt make sense for their story and gameplay to be so jarring.

I don't think people point how absolutely contrived 2's story is
Even ignoring all the coincidences like Abby finding Joel juuust as he's on patrol and Ellie is distracted lezzing it out, how the frick did she went back and forth from Seattle to Wyoming without any problems? Like, what sorta of dangerous post apocalypse is this that you can just walk 900 miles without any issue?
I don't think the whole of Fallout's 1 through New Vegas went as far as 300 miles from each other and yet every mile is dangerous possibility and a risk

        >Imagine being less realistic and gritty than the wacky scifi series with giant ants

I always took Fallout as a series that took sci-fi concepts from pulp stories, but then portrayed them deadly seriously. Like it has giant ants, or green mutants, but they're as scary as they would actually be if real. It's Fallout 2 and especially 3 that ramp up the silly rather than the horror. I consider it a horror RPG more than anything.

I wouldn't go that far, but you have a point in that Fallout often drops the wackyness to show serious dark stuff
Regardless, it's not "realistic", by a strict definition, so it's odd that it actually realistically treats long distances with zero communication much better than Last of Us

Fallout 3 being an actual wasteland, and not fricking run down Nevada (which is already run down in real life).

The Fallout setting isn't an "actual wasteland," you moron. The Capital Wasteland looks fricking terrible. NV may be orange as hell, but that's better than the green/gray nightmare of 3. It has more clutter, but it has nothing actually interesting to say. It's a goddamn eyesore.

I get people praising environmental design in every other Bethesda game, even Fallout 4 and 76, but 3 is just noise.

People hate on the game because Druckmann didn't care what the players wanted and just did what he wanted. Which is what every game creator should do.

          >“So it’s not that Konami wasn’t willing to pay them, he (Guy) wanted residuals, he wanted non-existent money that he felt that he was owed. So Konami has no fault in this whatsoever. And they wanted to use him again. Guy was the one who was outspoken about it and said that unless this happens he wouldn’t do it, so he forced Konami’s hands. So if anybody wants to blame anybody for why they chose new voices, they can go back to the original James and he’s the one to blame.” Baker continues to explain.

TLOU2's plot was meant to be more than a simple revenge tale, but an examination of the dynamic that Joel and Ellie shared in TLOU1. Despite that, it never really develops anything new about them, and instead brings Ellie back to where she was at the start of TLOU1 by having her "forgive" Joel on that fateful night, eventually being for nothing as he's killed nearly a day or two after that. I still firmly believe Tommy should have been Ellie's primary partner in the story, with a dynamic that simply doesn't work. Both characters want revenge at the start of the game, but Tommy is willing to sacrifice everyone and everything for it, whereas Ellie slowly loses steam after every monstrous thing they do. The dynamic would shed more light on all the things Joel did FOR Ellie, whereas Tommy is doing it for himself. He said that Joel did terrible things and that it wasn't worth it, but that's after years of reflecting on what they did to survive. It'd make Ellie and the audience appreciate Joel more after his death, while also offering the ability for Abby to enter the story. I also believe that Abby's story should have been placed in a different part of the story, given that most of her adventure is meant to get its audience to connect with characters we've already killed. You can even kill them in earlier parts of the story, but let them be less of a focus cinematics-wise (background NPC's, etc). Let the choice to kill Abby be a player choice, not an Ellie choice. At that point of the plot, both are reasonable options for her. Removing that option reduces the impact it has on the player.

Give Abby more build up, Joel dying isn't the problem, it's that he dies too early. It makes extremely hard to get invested when you're put in her shoes not long after, for a character we're meant to sympathize with eventually. Also Joel acts OOC when he meets Abby but that's a problem not unique to him throughout the game.
If you don't want to change that then you need to make Ellie's descent into being broken and alone by the end more believable. The story falls into the revenge bad trap of the person of your vengeful focus being spared but you killed over a hundred people to get to them.
This is a conundrum that's hard to overcome in an action game, and they try to do so by having specific named characters that add trauma to Ellie after she kills them, but the countless nameless mooks are like dust in the wind for her mental state.
I don't even completely hate TLOU2, the gameplay is fun and the story has some good moments. But the above problems (among other minor ones) really ruin it.

Well Ganker? Could YOU tell Troy a better version of the last of us part 2 story?

Also, Abby is depicted as just a vicious and hateful, if not more so, than Ellie throughout the game but she gets to walk away with her life and still having someone at her side. Ellie meanwhile, is completely alone (her greatest fear), and is permanently crippled.
If it's meant to be a message that being the "bigger person" doesn't always mean being the happier person, then that also rings hollow because the only thing that could really put Ellie over Abby in terms of "sins" at this point is sparing her life, something Abby actually did herself TWICE already. There's still the mountain of bodies behind both of them.

If you're going to having a depressing misery story where one beloved character dies early and the other beloved character starts a downward spiral culminating in a miserable ending because of their spiral, you need to make the descent of the spiral actually believable and sensical.
It's already struggling to reach this point throughout the game, because Ellie's mental degradation is too reliant on "checkpoints". But it's still somewhat believable. Where the descent falls apart is sparing Abby, I don't want her dead because I dislike her character (which I still do), I want her dead because it makes no sense for the story or Ellie's character arc in the game to spare her. It fricks EVERYTHING up.

Cuckmann said he wrote a tommy story but shelved it. I bet you the plan was for Tommy to be the one to kill Abby in order to keep Ellie's hands clean as their Mary sue, but then axed it out of spite so as to not give the chuds what they want

first act has you playing as ellie exploring the mall from left behind
    you bring back some mementos
joel asks about it and tells a story (retcons left behind)
start the flashback story with a younger joel finding ellie's friend
he bonds with her as a surrogate
he gets increasingly mad and conflicted with himself
abandons her somewhere with someone after meeting tess
tess starts rehabilitating him and he has to lie about abandoning the girl
end of flashback is end of game where the end is left ambiguous about what happens after

Okay. How about this. Instead of thinking you subverted expectations by going with the easiest route possible, by killing Joel, and therefore maintaining the status quo and the fact you did not undo his actions, but instead, Ellie. Ellie dies. The entirety of everything Joel stood up for has been undone with regret that she was angry at him for survivor's guilt which he had no answer for. Having to chase her killer down only to realize that he was the root cause of her murderer being motivated and that Abbey wanted to get back at him in the worst way possible, to take away from him what he did for her.

    Wow. So hard.

The same plot but don't assassinate elies character by making her something she's not by the end. "By sparing Abby we see the kind and innocent Ellie is still in there". That b***h died a long time ago, before Joel even died

    >Play with Abby first 2 or 3 chapters showing she is a good girl or whatever and some nightmare scene with a small clue.
    >Then with Ellie and after with Joel some more similar to the game.
    >Kill Joel
    >Then go back to Abby again with an actual story instead whatever garbage that kid shit was and develop more the side characters you are going to kill later with Ellie, just focus the story on Abby and her party while Ellie kills everyone one by one in the background...meet Ellie all crazy at the end.
    >Second playthrough (shorter) from Ellie's point of view butchering the characters you spend all your hours before, similar to the main game but way more focused...meet Abby at the end.
    >Choose your fighter, make people have reasons to save or kill both.
    >You've done it, people will say kino and fight about what's the best decision for decades.

The player character and his adopted daughter kill her israeli girlfriend because they catch her putting fungus in the town's drinking water. It turns out israelites have purposefully been spreading the plague to genocide all the gentile nations.

A friendly lab unlocks pheremones to control different types of zombies which you use as shock-troops to get to the final israelite bunkers until there are none left.

In this happy ending, the world is israelite-free and the zombies are a large working pop.

The fung thing is that even if anon got funding for this version but had to remove all the obvious signs identifying the israelites as israelites, journos would en masse call the game antisemitic
Jason Schreier would write a 10 page article carefully detailing how Big Nosed Character #2 is totally a israeli caricature because of his big nose and his betrayal of the local population, something that israelites did in Spain (but it was totally justified!)
NYT would also complain about how the character that's the Editor-in-chief of rhe newspaper is clearly a stereotype of "israelites running the media" despite the exterior characteristics painting him as a israelite and his only actions in the story being manipulation through the use of the paper

you are right brother. What you wrote reminded me of a bunch of israelites posting on twitter how a story was antisemetic because it was about a group which ran the world trying to subvert the people's wellbeing.
it was very telling that the story had no identifying features of its' villains aside from their actions and israelites innately recognized the villains as themselves.

Impossible. Making a heroic death for Joel goes against Californian/israeli liberal morality. Even if Joel is a israeli name and can be interpreted as a israeli man, he's still a light-skinned heterosexual man who had a normal family and blablabla. Portraying him as a hero is going against the tenets of these guys' religion.

my dudes, you shouldn't want the white man to die at all.
He is your representation in the game's world. He is the image of a white man presented.

What does the israelite do with it? Like Ken Levine he murders it out of his hatred. It's like in movies such as Logan or Elysium or Gran Turino where boomers are told foreigners are their inheritors so to treat them as heirs while gracefully going extinct.

Didn't it happened to Elon Musk? He said something like "well who do you think controls the media?" and suddenly 109 different israelite journalists all suddenly appeared to call him antisemitic

Even the bare minimum of just letting you choose at the end to kill Abby or not would work better. It's moronic Ellie decides to let her go, then decides not to let her go, then decides to let her go anyway after having her dead to rights and losing two fingers (at that point honestly she should just be seeing red and want to murder her no matter what anyway)
Frick beating you over the head with a hamfisted "revenge is... le bad!", let the player decide that for themselves what to do.

Abby kills Ellie by mistake. Joel spends the rest of the game pursuing her. Abby is conflicted because she takes pleasure in the pain she caused Joel but also struggles to cope with the guilt.
