It is cancelled. They're just never going to admit it.

Franchise is getting shelved for good this time.

      Anonymous

Kawashima's Devilish Brain Training (2013) was delayed all the way forward to 2017 in Europe after years of "TBA" listings. The original Advance Wars was delayed from 2001 to 2002 then 2004 in Japan.

That womens switch still has the the ticket file to decrypt the pre load game unless nintendo also remote deleted that too.

Nintendo very likely made sure to do that. I wonder if others have the encrypted preload but it doesn't make sense to bother too much about that remake at this point, it's as soulless and shitty as it can get.
My heart was broken a bit when the original Japanese artist started sharing detailed artwork from his work on the game, and the difference is night and day, even for the cover art which was badly traced over his own work. They couldn't even get him or get the game released in Japan, that's how bad it is.

        Anonymous

Nintendo and IS clearly don't care about it at all. Only reason it even existed was WF doing the work. Not surprising they wouldn't care about the original artist.

Why do you keep making this thread? Do you just want to have thinly veiled off-topic threads for Ukraine? What's your angle here Black person?

  4. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

I’m convinced this game is just a tax write off at this point. The Ukraine excuse just doesn’t hold up anymore, especially with so many other war themed games releasing since its delay; hell, even some first party Nintendo games have been far more gratuitous lately. Xenoblade 3 in particular features child soldiers, public executions, mass graves, etc.

    I call bullshit

      What's a tax write off

        Anonymous

Something you take to lower your income/gross profit on your tax return to lower your tax liability.

While it may not have been intended as a tax write off at first, as Nintendo now has a game they've spent money and possibly even inventory (if carts got printed) that they can no longer release, they could reasonably take a write off of some sort for it as an operating loss.

          Anonymous

It still doesn't make sense. So intentionally makikg commercial failures is profitable? Wouldn't AlphaDream be the richest developers then?

            Anonymous

Again I doubt it was intentional, but I fully expect Nintendo to do it now since they will never release it. Also if you want to split hairs Reboot wasn't a commercial failure since it never released.

In the case of AlphaDream it wouldn't have worked because they weren't making money anywhere else to offset the loss.

            Anonymous

Not intentionally making a failure, but if you've already 70% failed it makes more sense financially to accept defeat and harvest tax loss rather than spend more R&D money, not declare it as a loss, not get any tax discount and over 50% chance of failure regardless.
Any analyst worth their salary would advise you to can it and take the loss. It's over. Ukraine excuse was clearly bullshit

              Anonymous

People also forget Nintendo has access to the eshop preorder data, so they already have a good estimate for how it'll sell. And that was before delaying it twice. They probably already know they'd not make much profit on it at this point.

      What’s the peak of Xenoblade?
What’s the lowest point of Xenoblade?
How did you get into Xenoblade?

        Anonymous

I got into Xenoblade through 2, but have since gone on to play every game in the Xeno series besides X, which I plan on getting to soon (I'm a storygay so I put it off until later). When it comes to the blade games, I adore them all, but 1 was my least favorite simply because I found the gameplay to be a bit bland compared to the other titles. It's still a wonderful game, but the experience of playing it was just a little too dull in the grand scheme of things. 2 will always be my favorite, as it introduced me to what has quickly become my favorite franchise in all of video games, but I will admit that it isn't without it's faults.

As far as I'm concerned, we're living through the peak of Xenoblade right now, and the series is only going to continue to thrive so long as Monolith keeps up its ambition.

        >What’s the peak of Xenoblade?
Xenoblade 1 I think is the most consistently good from start to finish. Very few low points overall.
X is probably the best overall xeno game in terms of depth of its systems but it's an acquired taste and I hate the music.
        >What’s the lowest point of Xenoblade?
2, but not for the fanservice, couldn't give a shit about that. It was the gatcha, overdrive protocols, affinity chart and tiger tiger that made it a fricking chore to play. Torna is so good because it trims most of that BS out. NG+ fixes a lot too but that's a long time to slog through shit systems. Also the game is terrible at teaching you how to actually fight effectively (not that you need to until postgame and DLC)

What mission in the original four gave you the most trouble? For me it was Crystal Calamity in DS, the one with the nine missiles you have to shoot, I cleared it on my tenth try. Besifes that I've beaten most campaign missions without much difficulty, honourable mentions being 14 in DC against Carter. Dark Conlict's AI feels like it plays perfectly at times.

Until we see a trailer for WayForwards next game to basically confirm they’ve moved on, I’m going to assume it’s just going to get dropped as an “AVAILABLE TODAY” surprise on a random direct.

      >or they’ve just sat on the same build of the game for a year now.
This one. Maybe they'll have done some bug fixes or balancing but that's it. They aren't going to reskin the entire game in a year just because some people don't like the artstyle. Plus it's not the first time Nintendo has just sat on a completely finished game. From the leak, we know that FE Engage was finished for like an entire year and Nintendo was just sitting on it.

      >now i'm not even sure if i want to buy this, if it ever comes out at this point, to support the series anymore
That's a really good point. It's a dead end for the series.

It would be one thing for this to be a rerelease that also includes original newly-designed maps or additional quests that inspire faith that IS/WF will create more content like that if this sells well. Even a dumb additional campaign with Neil giving Andy war strategy lessons and then the battles are the entire Famicom Wars original campaign (which were already remade as bonus maps for the most part in 1/2/DS) and maybe 4/5 completely new maps here and there. The game's code allows for neutral headquarters but it never was used, they could at no expense promote that as a new mechanic (just like Yoshi's Island GBA bonus levels are collections of cut content from the original laid out as interesting level design)
Maybe an original graphics mode with the original art upscaled in waifu2x (yes they still have the sources and the watercolor art is gorgeous).

But no, this thing is completely hopeless. Only thing it has going for it is an online mode. What's there to be excited about? More shitty games by WayForward in the Advance Wars series, or worse, other neglected series?

No, games get cancelled all the time.

Most that could happen here suit wise is if WayForward was moronic and didn't accept payment up front they MIGHT be able to sue for lost wages. But that would imply WayForward has the balls to sue Nintendo and not kneel and ask to be hit again instead.

      Anonymous

They cancelled the preorders and refunded them.

The one time Nintendo was scared about false advertisement was when Nintendo of Japan mistakenly used uncensored Wii U version screenshots for the globally censored Switch version and accepted preorders for a very short time, so they went and posted an article that pointed the censorship out, apologized, and said they're accepting refund requests from Japanese customers.

Other than that, Nintendo is no stranger to bullshots and regularly advertises its Switch games with PC build resolution/framerate screenshots and footage, it goes all the way back to Mario 64.

Plus it's not the first time Nintendo has just sat on a completely finished game. From the leak, we know that FE Engage was finished for like an entire year and Nintendo was just sitting on it.

No shit, what really killed the Wii U (the slow start) and obliterated the Wii's momentum after 2009 were quarters that went on with software droughts. For better or worse, for the Switch they're spacing out their releases to fill each month with at least one major game, first or third party.
