The important hting about XIV that you need to know is that you don't have to sink yourself into it. The game is future-proofed unlike all the other WoW clones because it came out so much later that it got to build itself knowing that future proofing was a problem, and it's extremely easy to keep up with casually that a lot of the playerbase literally only plays for like one week out of every three months.
Whether or not the gameplay or story or world are any decent is a whole other issue that you can decide on your own but the mentality that you need to invest hard into XIV because of how WoW went is wrong. You can dip your toes into this game, frick around as much as you like, then just leave if you don't like it and come back any time and pick up where you left off.

people have been saying wow is dying for years, but this is the first time wow smut artists have started doing smut of other mmos. It's truly over this time, isn't it?
Join them. I've been subbed for like 6 years straight and I'm about to quit too. DF is the crappiest expansion ever. They ruined everything that was there. Crafting system is now just a p2w scheme in disguise, M+ dropping gear that makes all raiding useless besides 4 mythic bosses (first 2 for muh rare and exciting loot and last 2). Plus the talent system ruined the the game. They designed it so you get zero AoE abilities in Single Target spec yet design all bosses to have a require a little bit of AoEing besides a single boss. Dragonriding is okay, but it is clearly is just programmed as being auto run flying with strafe disabled.
This happened to my guild like midway into BFA. We were one of the top guilds during Legion, had multiple raids going, would pug people constantly just for fun runs. Guild crashed after/during Daz’rawhatever.
