oh cool a boomer game. Lemme guess, it has a double barrel shotgun! WHHAOOOWW!!! XD
Just another copy and paste FPS. Probably doesn't have a complicated and mysterious story with lore so complex and fabricated it still has a community unraveling it to this day

I like games with dual wielding shotguns. You can dual wield sawn-off shotguns in call of juarez gunslinger

Boomer fps are amazing and you are a gigantic homosexual. I had more fun playing Powerslave a few months ago than any of the 70 bucks AAA turds released this decade.

Aleph One is the source port letting it run on modern OSes. Bungie doesn't have anything to do with this release (besides maybe giving them clearance to list it).

Believe it or not I actually played these on a Mac Power PC back in the day. Infinity confused the shit out of me but I got through most of M1 and about a 3rd of the way through M2 but the maps were too big for my 8 year old brain to comprehend

Same. I was a sophomore in HS and a friend from down the street to my house had gone to college for his first year.
he would take me to his campus and we'd play Marathon Infinity over the LAN in the "computer lab" with everyone there.
Lots of fun. My first ever experience with pvp FPS games.

you've unhealthy obsession with younger folk. anyway they aren't the main audience for this type of stuff anyway.
was just curious because see these sometimes pop up on steam. like openTTD was some years ago.
is there actual benefit for it or was some guy just bored one day and thought that i'll pay valve to get this on steam for fun/attention/i don't know so his cv looks better because has "officially" published software

        >you've unhealthy obsession with younger folk.
He isn't wrong tho, which means it's not an "obsession".
Studies show that Zoomers are less tech literate than even boomers.
Something about being on their phones only.

In other words, the tech illiterate ones are probably not gamers that'd have any interest in something like Marathon regardless nor the capability to play it even on Steam. I feel like you're just proving that anon's point.

For me it was the summer of 1996, popping the first MacAddict demo disc into the PowerMac, and being blown away by the Marathon 2 demo.

Most zoomers don't know how to download/install/run programs without an App Store holding their hands

I started playing the first one and was enjoying it for a while until I got to the stage where you're meant to save all the brainless NPCs. I didn't care about that much but halfway through the level I got softlocked because I fell into a gap between two waist-high walls and had no way to get out.

Not really true, if anything Doom with its keycard mechanic resembles a dungeon crawler more. Marathon is big on aiming and verticality relative to most other 2.5D shooters.

          >Doom: Ultima Underworld
That would be System Shock. Doom was just a natural evolution from Wolfenstein 3D and Catacombs 3D, latter which predated Underworld.

Pathways into Darkness took notes from Wolfenstein 3D just like Marathon took notes from Doom. This isn’t even contested, Jason Jones admitted to it himself.

Marathon 1 was fine, the music really made it more of an atmosphere and story game than a good shooter. I think the story dropped off in 2 and 3 and those had no music at all. A dumbass decision they continued in Myth. Granted, Pathways Into Darkness didn’t have an OST either.
