Its pretty based if you like old school rpg.
Vagrant story is also very good with similar gameplay but deeper.
Loved Parasite Eve and I really wanted to like Vagrant Story, but I dropped it about 15 hours in because I just didn't dig the "spreadsheet game" flowchart system. I respect it as a good game, just not for me. Absolutely loved the visual presentation, comic book-like dialogue bubbles, and especially the soundtrack; one of Sakimoto's best.
a great game, one of the best OSTs of the era, interesting story and good setting, unique and fun combat system, and extensive weapon customization system. It's a great game
>done right >JUST GO THROUGH THE SAME 4 PRE-RENDERED BACKGROUNDS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR 8 HOURS BRO >JUST PLAY THE MAIN GAME TILL AT LEAST ROUND 4 SO YOU HAVE ENOUGH BONUS POINTS TO BEAT EVE BRO >JUST LISTEN TO THE SAME SOUNDTRACK YOU HEARD IN THE MAIN GAME AGAIN BRO
5 minutes average every floor means 10 floors take 50 mins more or less
there's 7 pairs of 10 floors from floor 1 to 70. 71-76 have nothing. That's 350 minutes, so close to 6 hours.
add in the time it take for you to beat the game 2 or 3 more times (GOOD LUCK beating Chrysler Building in Round 2) to get more bonus points and that's more or less 8 hours.
>JUST GO THROUGH THE SAME 4 PRE-RENDERED BACKGROUNDS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR 8 HOURS BRO
that's just life my man
Paranoia when you realize parasites live inside every human and you're not even a human you're just being controlled by said parasites. Probably the most underrated rpg series of all time
The pacing wasn't bad. I liked the way it took half the movie for Eve to show up. The ending sucked and it's sad we never saw UB or any gruesome scenes.
The novel is kind of a dull read but I kept imagining it as a 90s adventure game like Sanitarium or Harvester or something. I think it could work because the games we got barely scratch the surface of the gooey weird stuff in the last couple chapters.
The beginning of square's fricking bizarre obsession with reboots, and remakes about time travel and time loops to defeat a dark force fricking with the past
3rd Birthday
Kingdom Hearts had time travel
FF7R had time travel
Final fantasy Origins barely escapes this because FF1 was about a time loop, but it's still fricking absurd
If you really stretch you can even argue Dragon Quest has done it
>2/10 story
You probably don't like Die Hard or End of Days. The game just uses very typical for movies from that era plot. And it's magic that that very disturbing period of time before 2000 was captured so perfectly
I never had a PS1 so I didn't get to experience this game when it was released. I had a friend sing its praises to me, so I finally got around to playing through it a few years ago on an emulator I really enjoyed it without any rose-tinted glasses. Here were my impressions:
>kino old-school CGI cutscenes >Cool monster designs >enjoyable characters with an interesting story >story and gameplay length that feels all-killer and no-filler; the fat is really trimmed (I think I beat it in about 6-8 hours with using save states, though this does not include NG and going through the post-game 80-something floor dungeon) >interesting combat that is a mix of real-time dodging with turn-based actions. >a novel weapon/upgrade system that allows you to pretty much combine any weapon with another to add their properties together. So even if you find a crappy weapon, you can combine it with you main gun to make it stronger. >soundtrack that has some absolute bangers >Comfy New York during Christmas time setting >MITOCHONDRIA IS THE POWERHOUSE OF THE CELL
Kino

no. Melissa/Eve is.
boring

The 4th game in the 90s JRPGs made by Square tierlist.
The ~~*powerhouse*~~ of the ~~*cell*~~
Pre-millenium Christmas kino
An extremely underrated RPG.

Good stuff.
stay away from the Chrysler Building and you will be fine
The Chrysler Building is a bonus dungeon done right and worth it for the super tool kit or whatever it's called.
>done right

Yes.
>FOR 8 HOURS
You could at least pretend you're not bad

>5 minutes average every floor
And that's where you already fricked up
the only thing I fricked up was using a rifle instead of a pistol or machine gun. Now I'm better off starting over with a machine gun main.

I played the game Christmas 2021
I watched the movie Christmas 2022
I will read the novel this Christmas
>I watched the movie Christmas 2022
Wait, there was a Parasite Eve movie? Any good?
It's low budget Jap shit, so it's "ok". Decent enough plot, bad pacing, horrible acting.
The pacing wasn't bad. I liked the way it took half the movie for Eve to show up. The ending sucked and it's sad we never saw UB or any gruesome scenes.
I also really liked the soundtrack.
forgot to mention the movie also got me into japanese movies, so that's a plus I guess.
The whole movie is on YouTube. Might have to give it a watch.
>240p
not worth it. really sucks it can't get a BluRay release.
The novel is kind of a dull read but I kept imagining it as a 90s adventure game like Sanitarium or Harvester or something. I think it could work because the games we got barely scratch the surface of the gooey weird stuff in the last couple chapters.
What am I in for ?
Garbage.
Extremely mediocre gameplay wrapped around poorly designed combat encounters. The plots pretty funny in a "wow that was moronic" way.
>What am I in for ?
pure garbage, it's the Other M of Parasite Eve and you can thank Hajime Tabata for that

At this rate I bet FF16 has a time loop story
It's sad they can't design this kind of monstrosity anymore.
I wish Eve was the final boss and the UB was never born like in the movie. Eve's final form was HOT AF.
Mitochondria
Some good fricking music!
Burning people running around.
The beginning at the opera is the scariest fricking thing I played growing up.
A 9/10 game with a 2/10 story. The two points are just for being so comically horrible. I love this game.
>2/10 story
moron
this. the story should've been based on the novel instead of a crappy pseudo-sequel
>2/10 story

rpg? what the frick I thought it was a survival horror
>ALL HORROR GAMES ARE LE SURVIVOR HORRORZ
It's both
Yeah you survive the horror by shooting things in ATB
Game start out interesting, but gets very boring halfway through.
this game is a meme. If you want a good horror RPG, play Koudelka.
Koudelka is a meme garbage for hipsters. Parasite Eve is where it's at
the slowest running speed I've ever seen in a game

Scorching opera performance
Dogshit. Just play 2.
>Unique horror JRPG with cool battle system vs RE clone with super powers
No I don't think I will
