some questionable design choices in adaptability and soul memory
graphics that you wish wre just a bit better (when the frick is that lighting mod coming out?)
however, ds2 retains something that ds3 and elden ring do not. it, des and ds1 are all 'deliberate'. in design and in gameplay. actual consideration must be given to what you do and when; some care must be taken. ds3 and elden ring are slapdash spamfests in comparison and i dont feel like they preserve the spirit of the series very well. i give bloodborne a pass on this because it's designed to be fast and frantic and gets away with it.
anyway, dark souls 2 is fun and unique. best fashion, solid build variety, cool area design especially in the dlcs. shame the servers are still down because its the game i had the best time pvping in.
Dark Souls II had a troubled development and many assets were repurposed, moved around or removed entirely.
DSII started off under the direction of Tomohiro Shibuya. It was going to be even more open world. They got a lot done, but Bamco came down on them and forced them to scrap half the game. They put Yui Tanimura in charge who had to pick up the pieces 6 months from launch. Bamco originally designated DS2 to be a PS4 game and then decided that nope, we're actually putting it on the ps3, which forced the downgrade, Cell architecture, garbage gtx 7800 rebrand GPU and 256MB+256MB = PS3
>Dark Souls 2 downgrade full comparison

>The Archives - Repository of lore documents, interviews
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1MsqQvo7nQGzeifTMbAV5e0gL-5hshof_
They tried to expand the engine with a new lighting system but it fell through and forced them to visually downgrade the shaders through most of the game. The project was rebooted almost entirely when Tanimura's team took it over. They had to rework the original, unfinished 'open world' version of the game and take what little bits of it were complete enough to use and put together a full-length game out of it. As a result, Drangleic is missing many, many of its intended areas, transitions were cut, levels were left unpolished and unfinished, questlines were cut, etc.
Miyazaki personally asked Tanimura to be co-director for DS3 and ER so he could work on the combat mechanics while Miyazaki did what he's good at: level and world design, lore, npcs and the overall picture.
>Miyazaki did what he's good at: level and world design, lore, NPCs
I never expected to say this, but you people are worse than Kojima's wienersuckers.

Yeah, that much is true. I don't really play PVP, so never cared about it, but it does make sense. That said, Steam Controller Configuration has deadzone editing by default, it's not some obscure software or anything, anyone who has the game can improve their deadzones.

Not gonna lie, it would be pretty sick if they removed soul memory once the servers got back up.
The "deadzone" only exists when you ate very lightly tilting the thumbstick to walking speed. It's never, ever detrimental to the gameplay because the only times you want to be walking you want to be going in a straight line anyway.
That's not the issue, it's the 8-way gated movement. I guess they only ever tested this game on a keyboard during development. That or they were using arcade sticks for some god forsaken reason.

Unless you're invading for several days straight, it shouldn't be an issue considering the SM brackets are hundreds of thousands of souls,

You have full 360 degree movement. Like he said there's only a deadzone when you're walking at the minimum walking speed. When you're running around, strafing, or in combat you have full control of your movement where you would need it.

>good enough
It has nothing to do with skill mongoloid. The game feels like ass to play. Why are ds2 gays consistently the dumbest morons on this board?
A game with lows and highs that is departs in a lot of fundamental ways from its universally loved predecessor.
A mistake to ask Ganker for an opinion on it before you play it.

Good old dark souls 2 thread! What build you going with friends? My last playthrough full Str ultra great sword with minimum iFrames. Completely changes the game with needing a grasp on positioning.
Below 100k SM half naked character with 2 Winged Spears is still my favorite run, for both invasions and normal run. But if I want to beat NG++++++++ then I go with pure miracle caster and no weapons.
Hmm I would infuse with Raw seeing how it doesn't have scaling. And try and get you vita to a point you can equip it and stay under 70% ultimately their are better options for greatswords but it looks and feels good to use in my opinion Bracing Knuckle Ring can help with it's low durability.
tbh I've seen everybody complain about the lack of I-frames without leveling ADP, but this is the first I've seen someone make a build avoiding it. Tell me about the experience
Not him but the game is way more fun if you don't level adp. It's much more about pattern recognition, movement, and spacing. Souls should have never had so much iframes in the first place.
Also the points you dont waste putting into adp you can spread out into other, more fun, parts. Like pump up endurance or vitality and the game will feel a lot faster.
ADP is OP so not leveling it will definitely make the game feel more challenging, but in a good way that's specifically unique to 2. And there's Company of Champions which, is an actual hard mode, that's also only in 2 for some reason.
It is a covenant that makes most aspects of the game harder. More health, more damage, enemies don't despawn after 12 deaths anymore (yes DS2 has despawning enemies).
It is a very nice form of making the game harder without resorting to things like SL1 or naked runs. I whish other games had it.
You can cancel your attacks (and recovery) in DS2. Don't weasel your way out of it, you don't know shit about DS2 aside from your favourite ecelebs regurgitation. Next thing you say is DS2 has 8 way movement.
I've played DS2 a shit ton and don't care about ecelebs. The animation canceling you can do has to happen so early into the swing that it is basically only useful for PvP.
I still like DS2 despite all of it. But the mechanics for group fights are some of the worst in the series and yet it is the game with the most gank fights.
slow, dull, boring. a game for simpletons and redditors. bad stat mechanics, especially adaptability. you can walk around the bosses, but dodging is actively punished. every battle is like a live action version of a jrpg, kind of like FF7 remake. you dodge the slow enemy hit, wait, attack, their attack winds up again, then you wait and avoid, attack again. the world is cool looking. since the bosses are boring, theres also way too many of them and theyre mostly sponges. if you like 1, 3, demons souls, or elden ring you wont like this game because its for babies and dull people.
no, the game is about walking left or right. dont be stupid. you are just bad at the game and find the challenge in it because your neurons are firing so slow and cant hold short term memories anymore. the game is slow and doing follow up attacks beyond a certain chain is impossible because of how stamina works.
iframes are good. you just cant dodge reliably on frame 1 of a hitbox colliding. youre bad at pattern recognition and want to play another game that isnt souls
Maybe a caster, tell me if I should go for miracles or pyromancy
Why not both?
Pyromancy flames use their own upgrade materials, scale with the same stats, and you need some backup because offensive miracles are shit on DS2
First time playing. Going with a Cleric, but it's hard to know what should I commit with. My current stats are:
VGR 12
END 7
ATN 16
STR 17
DEX 7
FTH 27
Also bosses are fricking boring compared to DaS1
If it's not your first Souls game like it was for me you'll struggle to even complete it and not drop it in utter disgust.
The worst design choices, boss roster, final boss, texture quality and level design in the whole ARPG genre. The only game it surpasses is the original Lords of the Fallen

Honestly I was kind of dissapointed, made me feel like the world was tinier than what I was expecting. I also felt like the area was pure luck with several fights that are "here's 5 or more guys at the same time".
Put it this way. You don't get souls 1 or 3 threads for a reason because there's nothing there worth talking about. 2 is pretty damn good but not for everyone. You need perseverance and thick skin but it's the most satisfying and rewarding in the series. And it's not even close.
At least your character is faster in those games. You can easily get in and out from the group.
In DS2 you have cement blocks on your feet so the most effective way to fight a group is to have them in front of you and kite them. MMO gameplay.
When I said faster I mostly meant the commitment of attacks and the recovery before you can roll out.
Those aspects are very important to have a good group fight. DS2 is too slow-paced on the player-side to have fun group fights.
You can cancel your attacks (and recovery) in DS2. Don't weasel your way out of it, you don't know shit about DS2 aside from your favourite ecelebs regurgitation. Next thing you say is DS2 has 8 way movement.
I don't have a problem with group fights and think they're the most fun encounters in the game. You ever think the problem is maybe just you? There's lots of advantages you have that make crowd control possible. Like enemies being weak, slow, or staggerable. Some weapons are better in wide open space and can hit multiple enemies at once. And if you're struggling with weapon commitment you ever thought about just using a faster weapon? Put a dagger in your off hand for quick follow up combos. Or powerstance daggers too for their flurry combo and high damage. There's zero commitment there and it doesn't use much endurance either. Just sounds like you don't understand how to play the game and coping.

Right, but then we come to another shitty mechanic in DS2. Sweetspots. The weapons I normally like to use for crowds of enemies are halberds, polearms and scythes. Blades of sticks.
In DS2 you will only deal 50% of your damage if you hit an enemy with the stick portion of your weapon. It is a perfect example of realism getting in the way of gameplay.
Trying to tip-toe around and only playing with the blade part of your hitbox is incredibly gimmicky. It basically rail roads you into greatsword or UGS, because they dont have this issue with no other downside.
DS3 has it right with the sweetspot dealing something like 10% MORE damage. So you dont eat ass if you miss the sweetspot and spacing has an extra reward.

>complaining about sweetspots
You're such a loser. DS2 has a vast variety of weapons with varying sweetspots within classes. If you're so bad you can't handle it, then choose a weapon that is more forgiving at the cost of damage output. Risk vs reward, moron.
Anonymous
There is no risk vs reward as I said near the end. Other weapon types don't have this downside and their damage isn't lower either.
Weapon variety is severely reduced for the sake of realism.

Most weapons have sweetspots, even greatswords.
Spears and halberds have special shaft spots, but that doesn't make them worse than swords. Infact they are pretty meta once you learn how to play(which you did not)

B-but I easily beat DS1 and DS2 is giving me problems by having to learn the game. That's bad game design, suddenly!

The discussion was never about difficulty. The game being slower paced makes it easier than most other From games in my opinion.
I only found the DLCs challenging (which were also the best part of the game).

You swing a halbred faster, it's lighter, and uses less stamina than an UGS. ie: you got filtered

>They absolutely have sweetspots
Show me. I'm willing to concede that point if you show me a video or some wiki article.
Maybe the sweetspot damage reduction is so low on greatswords that I never noticed it.
When your blade on a stick type of weapon suddenly deals 50% or for some even 33% of its normal damage you really fricking feel it.

Nobody is suprised. In the very first post I said that this mechanics favors realism over gameplay.
It makes sense but makes those weapons ass to play. Which is more important in a video game?

>understand that maybe not all weapons are good for your playstyle
I'd argue that halberds and scythes are just not good for any playstyle in DS2. They are just shit weapons this time around.
Even worse in PvP. Try hitting someone with a sweetspot when netcode comes into play.
It gives the weapons depth and encourages you learn how to play it. Maybe go play Dynasty Warriors instead if muh realism is an issue for you.
It really doesn't give it any depth. If the weapon dealt something like 30% more damage compared to similiar weapon types then sure.
A clean sweetspot hit is still less damage than greatswords (which are similiar in speed). So why wouldn't I always go for greatswords in this game?
Anonymous
>It really doesn't give it any depth
It objectively does >which are similiar in speed
No they aren't. >why wouldn't I always go for greatswords in this game?
Because they're much heavier, have lengthier recovery per swing, and use more stamina. And personally players might prefer the halbred moveset. You get slashing and thrusting moves.

NT but it still applies. You get a 20% boost when hitting right with swords.

I mean generally, a swing is strongest at its edge because of the longer lever it creates with your arm.
It is probably more complicated than that because you don't want to hit with just the edge or you barely cut into someone, but you definitely don't want to hit with the closest edge of the sword.

Look at those differences!
Halberd from first clip >103 DMG >23 DMG (22%)
Straight Sword at 30s >119 DMG >83 DMG (70%)
I still stand by my point that the sweetspot mechanic makes blades on sticks shit weapons in DS2.

>I still stand by my point that the sweetspot mechanic makes blades on sticks shit weapons in DS2. >range doesn't matter >being able to poke from behind a shield doesn't matter >rollcatching multihit attacks don't matter >much higher damage output when upgraded doesn't matter >being able to just use an offhand weapon to cover the weakspot doesn't matter
Funny I rumbled so many sword shitters with a bit of learning how to play the game.
>DS2 is too slow-paced on the player-side to have fun group fights.
Actual unironic skill issue. Gank fights are better only in ER because of all the new spells and weapon arts but in terms of basic enemy design DS2 is way better tailored to fights against mulitple
He's an idiot. You're quicker on your feet than you are in even DS3 or ER. And 2 objectively has the fastest input response of all their games. The sidestep and strafing speed is ridiculous, backstep is actually functional, and you have the furthest distance dodge roll to make spacing a possibility over ER's shitty somersault in place dodge roll. And plus like you said sprinting in a fight is actually a valuable tactic that people just ignore.
Leveling ADP for your first levels so the roll doesn't feel like trash because the devs thought it was a good idea to start everyone with neutered rolls
Yes if you can fight the most aggressive enemy in the game with "bad rolls" you can fight any gank or boss in the game. Why you think that roll is "bad" I don't fricking know. Your brain is too hooked on iframes I guess and just doesn't know any better.
>look I can 1v1 this fight with bad rolls that means the system isn't flawed at all!
Do not reply to me again
Yes if you can fight the most aggressive enemy in the game with "bad rolls" you can fight any gank or boss in the game. Why you think that roll is "bad" I don't fricking know. Your brain is too hooked on iframes I guess and just doesn't know any better.
So what do you need to see to convince yourself the roll isn't neutered? It's in fact better. You roll further across the same equip loads, and you can roll in more directions. This encourages you to roll out of the way of attacks. Not into them. You can roll more accurately and position yourself better. I demonstrated you can roll effectively against the toughest enemy in the game and you have zero counter argument against that fact. I'm posting the same webm and argument because it's true and exposes iframe shitters. The roll has more utility this time around than just being an iframe button. If you can't adjust to that it's on you. Not the game's. And that's before getting into the fact your strafing speed is faster and more responsive than before. You can sidestep attacks. It's actually worth backstepping. And you can go into a sprint while still locked onto an enemy to move around and avoid attacks that way. There's more depth here and opportunities for avoiding damage than simply just hitting the iframe button at the right time.
I am sorry if I didn't make this abundantly
clear, but I am making fun of both of you homosexuals still going on about the same thing these threads have done for years, so you just proved my point with that.

Lmao DS2’s plot was so fricking irrelevant you can literally completely ignore all of it and lose absolutely nothing in the overarching story. DS3 is the natural conclusion of events that took place in DS1, kicked off by Gwyn’s vain attempt to continue the Age of Fire.
Reminder that in Dark Souls 3 retail Faraam looks hollow because the Fire is fading and with it the Gods are going hollow, similar to the Chaos creatures, but originally King of the Storm was a Lord of Cinder, thus its marked hollow appearance. Why he linked the Fire is up to debate, but some cut content text lore states that, despite the disagreement with his father over the Dragons, he still led his subjects and traced the path of the ritual to sustain the Age of Fire.
Originally Sulyvahn was the "final" (not actually final) boss, he was called Lord of the Eclipse, and was Prince Lothric reborn during the Eclipse. Red Knight (which itself was a recycle of the original plans of Oscar of Astora, also cut content in the original Dark Soul) was the true final boss (think of Gehrman/Moon Presence). The game would more or less be like this, start at High Wall, reach Emma, be told to go to the Undead Settlement
There you would actually end up in the Dungeon and reach the Profaned Capital, take the Basin of Vows (an artifact remember the Lordvessel) and face Lorian and Lothric
With the blood of Lorian & Lothric (Remember the cutscene of the statue beheading himself?) you could access the Lothric Castle. Consumed King's Garden (most likely different name) ended up with Gundyr in Oceiros arena
>So Gundyr was the consumed King?
No, absolutely. Gundyr was called Old King of Lothric
He was in that arena but was called Old King of Lothric (one of the many homages to Demon's Souls present in Dark Souls 3)
Even in the leaked screenshots he had the coiled sword, but stabbing his side and not chest (and the alpha has a different animation for extracting the sword). This is likely the object that would have allowed the player to travel, similar to the Lordvessel in the original.

Another thing we recently discovered is that there's text saying "You can't light up the bonfire. You have no Firekeeper" in Japanese,
Considering Untended Graves were (and still are!) connected to the back of Lothric Castle, the olayer would wake up, take the Coiled Sword from The Old King of Lothric (named Gundyr) in a reference to Demonbrandt, and with it reach the Untended Graves to light up the bonfire.
This matches Miyazaki's interview of 2015 where he said he wanted Dark Souls 3 world structure to resemble the original more.
The name of Lothric reborn in the files was literally "Wings of Darkness"
The Abyss Watchers replaced the Old Wolf of Farron
The ulcerated tree spirits in ER are also just repurposed assets from a scrapped pus of man-themed boss, leaving that whole aspect of the story dangling in DS3, and porting their spastic, flailing, unreadable move set to ER, where it feels right at home.

Lothric was supposed to mirror Griffith from Berserk: the lothric we fight was the borderline dead version and he was going to be resurrected by the Eclipse into a buffed Pontiff Suly

I started NG+ the other day and got to the Lost Sinner fight. How in the frick do they expect you to dodge the sinner and deal with two pyromancer phantoms at once? It's ridiculous
I finished it yesterday. Pretty much everything about it sucks. Every system was annoying and unnecessary, bosses sucked, and the final boss was terrible. So bad it made Bloodborne look good
DS2 is the hardest start to a DS game. I finished DS and figured myself adept at DS-style games and jumped right into DS2 only to have my ass handed to me over and over at the beginning. The difficulty wall at the start is the game's only serious challenge. After that it's pretty easy sailing.
If you want to 100%, use a guide -- there are a number of limited-use items and no indication of where to use them -- it's left up entirely to chance, otherwise, and chance is a fricking stupid game mechanic. (Branch of Yore and Pharros Lockstone)
the best one in DaS series but contrarians will say otherwise. >best story, no rehased garbage like 3 >best setting, completely incoherent and non plausible space wise. chums will say this is bad level design but it adds to the idea of wandering these lands through time and space >best cover armor in the series >best characters, the story of King Vendrick is heartbreaking and beautiful >cool enemies >hexes >best soundtrack of the trilogy >best replay value
the only people who complains about this game are the metagays and people who still cares about PvP in 2022
It is, and here's why >People lovd DaSI story >the endless cycle of the lord of cinder, Gwyn, Seath, big tiddy mommy, etc >DaSII is released >"nooooo but my hecking lord of cinderino, what do you mean the abyss won? why King Vendrick fought the giants? wasn't he a giant too? I can't understand and this elevator brings me to a lava pit it's not consistent!" >DaSIII is released >a fricking furry bishop cosplaying as Seath >"hey guys, remember Anor Londo? well guess who's back!" >and femboy Gwyndolin is here too!™
come on now man. DaS tried to go in another direction but fans didn't like it, and they retconned everything in DaS3.
DS3 is practically nothing but references, though. And they're not even really references either. They just directly import shit. Like why are there Silver Knights at all?
are you fricking stupid or just simply ignoring anything I wrote? Is the greentext confusing you?

If you don't care then why are you even here sperging, sperg?
>3 is not rehashed
Everything about 3 is a rehash. The story and the environments are a rehash of the first two games with Bloodborne sprinkled in with some enemies and the combat. A bastard game, the worst in the series by far. The only people that think otherwise are newbies that started off with it and didn't know any better.
No it's a creative bankrupt work, degraded to fit a more wide audience, striped of everything that made it what it is for gimmicks. Ironically enough the trailer for DS2 with all the. "you will die" was looking as the soulless sequel but it turns out that DS3 was the one. On its whole it's just an extremely pretentious piece of work with none of the essence the previous two games had and no legs to stand on its own. More dark souls for the shake of more dark souls, but under the pretty exterior there is nothing.
you keep saying the same thing while also not trying to explain why, reiterating the same concept with a new paint, is something good.
it's not just a sequel, the whole theme of the game is "DaS1 was really good so everyone in that universe also love it"
don't care it's a sequel >not trying to explain why
it's a sequel I don't have to explain why

I agree with all of these but the soundtrack. tbh it's pretty ass and outside of Majula theme I can't even remember a single track unlike BB and DaS3 which are tied as best soundtrack for me.
What I like the most about 2 is how extremely clunky and slow it is, entirely unlike the butter smooth movement and controls of BB, DaS3 and ER.
I like that in DaS2 because it makes the game far more strategic. You can't just reposition yourself normally, you have to be very careful in doing so because the controls are weird and you can't just approach the game intuitively. You have to suffer to learn and learning is meaningful, playing well isn't a matter of going fast, but a matter of going to the right place at the right time, be it for a huge attack, a dodge roll, a parry - all things which are surprisingly harder to get right in DaS2 because it's fricking clunky as shit and I love it.
I like 2's character creation theme the best. The main menu music is appropriately somber. And when you meet Vendrick the music is memorably creepy. I think 2 does mood really well.
well, I can see what you're saying.
but DaSII stuck with me for a lot. Majula and the Nexus from Demon's Souls are my favorite hub tunes.
King Vendrick theme is miserable and sad.
It's more atospheric and "ambient" and I love that.
So I guess, it's a matter of what kind of music you like more.
I agree on the mechanics/movements/physics as added elemnt of the actual gameplay, I guess a lot of people got filtered. Myabe they had little time and lot of pressure, but the result, even if it wasn't really what the aimed for, is different and makes DaSII unique in my view.
It's probably the souls game I played the most, both on PS3 and PC. And I agree with you because even on PC, when I played with trainers so that I could fully explor the world, get every item/event and soak in the beauty of this game, even if I know I couldn't die because I was literally cheating, combat was never really "easy".
some questionable design choices in adaptability and soul memory
graphics that you wish wre just a bit better (when the frick is that lighting mod coming out?)
however, ds2 retains something that ds3 and elden ring do not. it, des and ds1 are all 'deliberate'. in design and in gameplay. actual consideration must be given to what you do and when; some care must be taken. ds3 and elden ring are slapdash spamfests in comparison and i dont feel like they preserve the spirit of the series very well. i give bloodborne a pass on this because it's designed to be fast and frantic and gets away with it.
anyway, dark souls 2 is fun and unique. best fashion, solid build variety, cool area design especially in the dlcs. shame the servers are still down because its the game i had the best time pvping in.
>des and ds1 are all 'deliberate'. in design and in gameplay.
The combat in Ds1 consinst of circle strafing behind the enemy and backstabbing him over and over. "More deliberate" my ass.
It's a deeper game with better character building. Freedom and non-linear progression(1 isn't bad at this, just 2 does it better). It's more challenging. Bosses. Has more content. Variety. Improved ai and balance. And the combat doesn't revolve around circle strafing and backstabbing through 98% of the encounters.
>more interesting weapons >way better AI for NPC summons, the best in the series >power stancing >makes you invest stat points into dodge because it is an RPG >majula >removed frame 1 backstabs >superior PVP, see the main reason above >poison and toxic actually viable now >casting speed tied to attunement and not fricking dex of all things >small soapstone >omni-directional dodging while locked on >drop or use multiple items at once rather than one at a time >bonfire ascetics >item selling >fist two handing >bosses with multiple lock-on points >can activate bonfires with a phantom present >actually feels like a finished product
>majula
Are you trying to say Majula is better than Firelink Shrine? It's really good I will give you that, easily the second best hub but some things are sacred and should remain so.
It's just my personal favorite, I don't really think the quality of the hub is that important as long as everything is convenient to access. My only problem with Firelink is that it kind of loses it's "hub" status when you can just level up anywhere in the game, which I do enjoy being able to do don't get me wrong.
Anonymous
A hub shouldn't artificially forced to go back there. You go back to Firelink because the map had been designed in a way that makes the most sense for you to make it your hub. Because of that you also usually have the most estus in it during your first playthrough when you are not running around with max humanity at all times, so it always makes sense to go back there. And as far as I remember it's also a lot more dynamic than Majula.
Anonymous
You pretty much stop by it just a few times, multiple areas can feel like a "hub" in 1 because of the tight interconnected level design. I probably spent just as much time at the bonfire by Andre for similar reasons.
DS2 did have much better multiplayer, and better combat as well. The bosses are also much better. The DLC wasn't necessarily better, but it was about as good, but much more plentiful. It's a bigger game overall, and not in a bad way.
The only good thing about DS2 is that it is the one Souls game were going full miracles isn't pure CBT.
In the first one you can't get a good attack miralce until you're mostly done with the game because servers are eternally dead and you need sunlight medals for great lightning spears.
In DS3 you just straight-up get no good miracles unless you buy DLC and even then they're all endgame, too. Your best option for NG is to play as a pyromancer and respec before entering NG+
I find it kind of funny how Dark Souls became such a popular and influential game by not really doing anything special. It's just a 3D dungeon crawler but people look at it as something revolutionary just because it's so much better than most modern video games
if you think about it bearer of the curse and ds2 fans share a key trait: their life story is about being a loser and a quitter who wanders off into obscurity, contributing nothing worth remembering

Animations have no gameplay effect? Think for a second. What if another player in this multiplayer game sees a low health animation from a distance? What could happen?
I lost count how many times my neurons fired when I saw someone entering the inventorymenu animation. It must suck to be you not seeing the obvious. What's it called? Telegraphing.
You see enemy health bars. You know when they are low.
Health bars in PvP also don't appear over distance, only if something covers the player in which case you are not gonna see that animation either.
It is just a nice detail with no gameplay effect.

Unless the enemy player gets hit, you need to lock on to see healthbars. But keep on claiming animations have no gameplay effect.
It's funny and explains why this shit is so widely accepted.

I'm not the first guy. You replied to my only post.
Of course animations matter for gameplay, thats the way the game communicates whats happening.
This is just one animation that is only flavor. Games usually have a ton of those and there is nothing wrong with it.
if youre doing pvp youre moving, the anim doesnt blend with walking theres literally no reason to be idling around and there is no circumstance where youre going to use this. just lock on and check their bar, dipshit
ever wonder why ds2 continually has less players than DS: remastered? hey maybe its because nobody wants to play your homosexual game for moronic scrubs because its infecting your mind with a gay mind virus

What's unfair, in your opinion?
The only thing I'd really classify as junk are the sometimes really fricking bad looking environments. It wasn't until the snow DLC and the fricking cats where I started to hate the game to some degree because those fricks feel like their animations were stolen from Life of Black Tiger or something. Black folk move janky as frick.
Not junk but janky, i mean stuff like the game not applying settings correctly when launching not being able to go fullscreen unless your monitor supports exactly 60 hz display mode, some enemy
attacks having weird/inaccurate hitboxes etc. But yeah the backdrop ares do look a bit lower quality perhaps they expected to use depth of field only
and what's so unfair then?
Well getting surrounded isn't diificult to deal with but getting overwhelmed is very easy in this game and the game knowingly does it a lot, but in comparison single enemies are easy to defeat. But don't quote me on this i haven't played the game for well over a year now.
>play the DLCs for the first time recently >get to Fume, remember people constantly seethe about him and his second phase >takes me a few tries to figure out but the fight is enjoyable >wonder why the frick I never got a second phase >look it up >apparently he just starts in phase 2 if you wear Velstadt's helm since he goes into seethe mode when he's reminded of him
K I N O
Iron Keep. It's so tense trying to make it back to Smelter's arena with 50000+ souls in there. There's so many enemies to get through. One little slip up can mean death. Oh and Armorer Dennis decides to show up at the most inconvenient times to frick you over. Goddamn what a game. Back when from had some balls.
>"You're there. As an adventurer. Trying to decide how best to overcome a difficult situation."
Nothing else captures that sense of just you being some guy, alone, adventuring into unknown and unique hostile environments, against insurmountable odds. With some patience, perseverance, and wit you can conquer the traps and enemies before you. What a game.
You literally got poked with the other end of the stick. That's how that works.

no, the rest are just nitpicks, ds2 is all over the game
Strange. I find magic completely broken in DS2. It's so broken in fact, I try not to use it because it completely trivializes the game. Whenever I can't beat a boss, I respec to magic and defeat it and switch back to melee.
Bosses I could only beat with magic:
Dark Lurker
Ancient Dragon (could have beaten him actually, but the fight itself is stupid)
Magic (except miracles) is the best its ever been in Dark Souls and the damage is disgusting, what the frick are you talking about? Hex is fricking busted, best version of corpse explosion too.
You can get a sword catalyst, buff it with crystal magic weapon, which increases the damage of your spells.
Most enemies in DS2 are optional too..
Also chalice dungeon aren't optional if you want to pvp, since you have to grind grind grind those gems to stand a chance.
A game with strong highs and extremely low lows. There's plenty of bosses but there's an extreme amount that have harder boss runs than actual fights. The people saying worse game ever never actually played a true broken mess, it's more of a painfully average experience.
I just want to say that I will never, for as long as I live, forgive DaS3 for trying to turn DaS1's narrative upside down
'What if Gwyn was...bad???' was a fricking joke.

I've only ever seen obviously beta redditors and newbies thinking its good. Contrarian trannies probably are in the mix there. Brain fog probably makes it hard to play action games so they like geriatric souls. I remember the grand old days of Demon's Souls collaboration here. People would talk about Armored Core, King's Field, and the older games... Evergrace, Eternal Ring, and Lost Kingdoms would be something people got excited for. Bad times in the last decade on here. Nobody actually plays video games.
>people would talk about kings field and other older games
Nah. They didn't. I was here. Armored core had its niche fans. Of course it doesn't get discussed anymore. The newest game is 10 years old. Nobody ever talked about any fromsoft games other than armored core and tenchu.
You're wrong; you might've missed out, and that's alright. When the game came out people would talk about Kings Field a lot. It's just dropped off long term because all of that moved over to /vr/.
An unfinished but good game. Its build variety is unironically the best in all of the Souls series barring Elden Ring and quite possibly even more than Elden Ring.
You can't poise tank and circle strafe backstab entire groups of enemies one after the other through the whole game like in DS1. And it's not a brainless hack n slash where you just roll spam and mash R1 through the whole game with every build or character like in 3. It's fundamentally the best souls game.
Boring, forgetable and stupid
People here keep pretending it's good because 3 or 4 moronic youtuber said it was good
But no it's shit and will always be and people will keep pretending it's good
DaS2gays have the biggest victim complex ever. It's a good game overall but you zealots blatantly lie about any existing issues all the time. Hope your precious pvp stays dead.

This tells you all you need to know about what their priorities were.Tactical action rpg where you have to outsmart the enemies and the freedom to play however you want; gets replaced with "oh you just roll around a lot." God lmao.
The sad part is this looks like un-upgraded stamina too.

heh yeah. Stats don't even matter. You have all the stamina you need at the beginning of the game. WE CANT HAVE A GAME WHERE THE PLAYER CANT ROLL 10 TIMES IN A ROW! Good one miyazaki you're so smart. Frick.
OP here, been fighting the last giant, the game is fun in a better than killing myself sort of way, I got a code from my friend because it was my birthday, I've never played a souls game and probably never would have had I not got it for free, but its good, and yeah i know this isnt really gonna shock anyone but man is it hard.
Imagine being given 15 iframes and your hitboxes are still atrocious? lmao. You don't even need iframes in 2. That's how good the hitboxes are. Imagine trying to dodge anything in 3 with only 5 iframes! omg kek

ds2 is all about tactical movement. this gets replaced with "durrr hit the iframe button at the right time I DID IT WOOOPPEEEE" over and over and over again being the only gameplay.

you cracked it iframes actually make the dodging ughhh le harder!

nobody cares about you, you dont matter. you dont get a say
Have you watched a tekken match? It's 50 seconds of two players moving back and forth because movement is more important than hitting the iframe button at the right time, that doesn't exist. You're litterally encouraged to roll into the attacks in DS3 because hitting the iframe button is the only gameplay. That's little hitboxes or movement actually matters in that game.
Holy shit iframes and rolling mindbroke DS2gays just because they don't like that their first Souls game is the odd one out among the other games. Imagine if SMB2 gays viciously hated SMB1/3/W just because you could stomp on enemies unlike SMB2.

>Miyazaki did what he's good at: level and world design, lore, NPCs

if you didnt feel insecure and werent a whipped little b***h youd shut your prostitute mouth and let adults talk. everyone would be fine if you left your opinions at liking it, and not trying to convert people to your circlejerk fan religion.
i actually like the falconers. they are hilarious and fun and albeit a bit broken jank but its okay and fine. they needed a walk cycle and they goofed up and thought it was funny clearly
you dont need animations to help you roleplay the game, but falconers do need a locomotion layer even if it only has two or three actual anims unlike every other npc

I hate how 2 is considered the worst just because of Ganker contrarians who probably didn't even play the game and If did play the would know 2 is objectively better than 3 and 1.

a quick alt f4 once you realize you need a deadzone mod
>PC tards
>playing DS2 without the deadzone mod
only problem is that it feels like cheating in pvp when I use it
Yeah, that much is true. I don't really play PVP, so never cared about it, but it does make sense. That said, Steam Controller Configuration has deadzone editing by default, it's not some obscure software or anything, anyone who has the game can improve their deadzones.
>console peasants stuck with the default deadzones
lmao
>do not play the game as it was intended
Let me guess, you use aim assist in games as well?
if the intended way to play the game feels like ass then yeah, I'm not going to play it as intended. aim assist sucks ass for the record.
>uses deadzone fix
>uses cheat to have infinite ammound of cracked red orbs
>uses Forbidden Sun glitch
>uses edit to ''fix'' his soul memory
>is confused why servers are down on Steam and calls others peasants
l e l
Not gonna lie, it would be pretty sick if they removed soul memory once the servers got back up.
I mean, they're down for the same reason DS1 and 3 were: someone found an RCE and publicly showed it off so from and bandai HAD to do something about it.
>PC
I'm playing on an actual PS3 m8,the multiplayer is still active!
Yeah, but PC does not have Alt F4 which is what anon probably meant

I love that, to this day, Ganker will pretend they're good enough at vidya for this to even matter to them.
>good enough
It has nothing to do with skill mongoloid. The game feels like ass to play. Why are ds2 gays consistently the dumbest morons on this board?
A good game.

Fromsoftware game

the best game of the last 20 years
The worst version of Dark Souls 2
A fun game if you don't think about it too much.
Also level up ADP
The "deadzone" only exists when you ate very lightly tilting the thumbstick to walking speed. It's never, ever detrimental to the gameplay because the only times you want to be walking you want to be going in a straight line anyway.
Bad hitboxes and no I-frames
At least powerstancing is kino
Good old dark souls 2 thread! What build you going with friends? My last playthrough full Str ultra great sword with minimum iFrames. Completely changes the game with needing a grasp on positioning.
Unga bunga with longswords.
I'm already at lvl 150 because I want to be absolutely overpowered, did the first DLC and began the second a while ago.
That's always a fun choice! This your first playthrough? Or are you pretty experienced with DS2
Maybe a caster, tell me if I should go for miracles or pyromancy
Personally I enjoy miracles over pyro!
Below 100k SM half naked character with 2 Winged Spears is still my favorite run, for both invasions and normal run. But if I want to beat NG++++++++ then I go with pure miracle caster and no weapons.
I wanna try doing a dual blue flame build.
Any decent build with the fake Moonlight Greatsword? Thinking of just going Raw.
If this is legit I might make try a new run. I've been worried oldsouls would feel too "easy"
ADP is OP so not leveling it will definitely make the game feel more challenging, but in a good way that's specifically unique to 2. And there's Company of Champions which, is an actual hard mode, that's also only in 2 for some reason.
>Company of Champions
QRD?
It is a covenant that makes most aspects of the game harder. More health, more damage, enemies don't despawn after 12 deaths anymore (yes DS2 has despawning enemies).
It is a very nice form of making the game harder without resorting to things like SL1 or naked runs. I whish other games had it.
You can cancel recovery animations
It's not just for pvp
slow, dull, boring. a game for simpletons and redditors. bad stat mechanics, especially adaptability. you can walk around the bosses, but dodging is actively punished. every battle is like a live action version of a jrpg, kind of like FF7 remake. you dodge the slow enemy hit, wait, attack, their attack winds up again, then you wait and avoid, attack again. the world is cool looking. since the bosses are boring, theres also way too many of them and theyre mostly sponges. if you like 1, 3, demons souls, or elden ring you wont like this game because its for babies and dull people.
no, the game is about walking left or right. dont be stupid. you are just bad at the game and find the challenge in it because your neurons are firing so slow and cant hold short term memories anymore. the game is slow and doing follow up attacks beyond a certain chain is impossible because of how stamina works.
iframes are good. you just cant dodge reliably on frame 1 of a hitbox colliding. youre bad at pattern recognition and want to play another game that isnt souls
STR/INT or Something using the Santier's Spear.
Why not both?
Pyromancy flames use their own upgrade materials, scale with the same stats, and you need some backup because offensive miracles are shit on DS2
Quality Loyce Greatsword
Love this weapon more than any other
First time playing. Going with a Cleric, but it's hard to know what should I commit with. My current stats are:
VGR 12
END 7
ATN 16
STR 17
DEX 7
FTH 27
Also bosses are fricking boring compared to DaS1

>souls world is a dying world with no hope for salvation
>game references said world in the item descriptions and the game's atmosphere
weird huh
Kino and fits the atmosphere and worldbuilding way better than DS1
Lost Bastille feels huge. There's so many different paths you can take through it. You can even start it from different points.
Might be my favorite area in the game. Shame the lost sinner didn't age very well after the games successors.
>Shame the lost sinner didn't age very well after the games successors.
You could say the same for 90% of the basegame DS2 bosses
>Defeat the Pursuer, a giant crow appears and takes me there
>Explore a little
>Shit shit shit this is too hard, Ill come back later
>Get to No Man's Wharf, finally defeat the boss in the boat
>Aaaaaand we are back in LB
Honestly I was kind of dissapointed, made me feel like the world was tinier than what I was expecting. I also felt like the area was pure luck with several fights that are "here's 5 or more guys at the same time".
if nothing else, it's the spookiest Souls game. Most locales in it are spooky as frick.
Put it this way. You don't get souls 1 or 3 threads for a reason because there's nothing there worth talking about. 2 is pretty damn good but not for everyone. You need perseverance and thick skin but it's the most satisfying and rewarding in the series. And it's not even close.
>2 is pretty damn good but not for everyone.
Yeah. Its not for brainelts are simpletons who are easily manipulated by the wrong/shit opinions of others.
Scholar fricking sucks, play the original version with the fixes
gank squads
>still pushing this weak bait after BB, DS3 and Elden Gank
At least your character is faster in those games. You can easily get in and out from the group.
In DS2 you have cement blocks on your feet so the most effective way to fight a group is to have them in front of you and kite them. MMO gameplay.
You know you can sprint in DS2 even when locked on right? And the sprint is only slower than Sekiros or Torrents.
Dont have a problem.
>complaining about sweetspots
You're such a loser. DS2 has a vast variety of weapons with varying sweetspots within classes. If you're so bad you can't handle it, then choose a weapon that is more forgiving at the cost of damage output. Risk vs reward, moron.
Sweetspots aren't unique to DS2
I know. Read till the end. DS2 is the only game where the mechanics is shit.
>It basically rail roads you into greatsword or UGS, because they dont have this issue with no other downside.
They absolutely have sweetspots and they don't allow you to poke from behind the shield or even go through shields.
The frick is wrong with you.
>They absolutely have sweetspots
Show me. I'm willing to concede that point if you show me a video or some wiki article.
Maybe the sweetspot damage reduction is so low on greatswords that I never noticed it.
When your blade on a stick type of weapon suddenly deals 50% or for some even 33% of its normal damage you really fricking feel it.
>use blade on stick
>hit man with stick instead of blade
>surprised whe it does less damage
Nobody is suprised. In the very first post I said that this mechanics favors realism over gameplay.
It makes sense but makes those weapons ass to play. Which is more important in a video game?
It gives the weapons depth and encourages you learn how to play it. Maybe go play Dynasty Warriors instead if muh realism is an issue for you.
winning is more important in a videogame. and understand that maybe not all weapons are good for your playstyle.
it's a game mechanic, stop hitting enemies with your hilt lol
>understand that maybe not all weapons are good for your playstyle
I'd argue that halberds and scythes are just not good for any playstyle in DS2. They are just shit weapons this time around.
Even worse in PvP. Try hitting someone with a sweetspot when netcode comes into play.
It really doesn't give it any depth. If the weapon dealt something like 30% more damage compared to similiar weapon types then sure.
A clean sweetspot hit is still less damage than greatswords (which are similiar in speed). So why wouldn't I always go for greatswords in this game?
>It really doesn't give it any depth
It objectively does
>which are similiar in speed
No they aren't.
>why wouldn't I always go for greatswords in this game?
Because they're much heavier, have lengthier recovery per swing, and use more stamina. And personally players might prefer the halbred moveset. You get slashing and thrusting moves.
NT but it still applies. You get a 20% boost when hitting right with swords.
How do you hit 'wrong' with a sword? The entire blade is sharp. Does the tip deal more damage?
This homie never played Smash with a blue hair anime sword guy
Didn't you play the games? There are sweet spots that deal more damage.
I mean generally, a swing is strongest at its edge because of the longer lever it creates with your arm.
It is probably more complicated than that because you don't want to hit with just the edge or you barely cut into someone, but you definitely don't want to hit with the closest edge of the sword.
Look at those differences!
Halberd from first clip
>103 DMG
>23 DMG (22%)
Straight Sword at 30s
>119 DMG
>83 DMG (70%)
I still stand by my point that the sweetspot mechanic makes blades on sticks shit weapons in DS2.
>I still stand by my point that the sweetspot mechanic makes blades on sticks shit weapons in DS2.
>range doesn't matter
>being able to poke from behind a shield doesn't matter
>rollcatching multihit attacks don't matter
>much higher damage output when upgraded doesn't matter
>being able to just use an offhand weapon to cover the weakspot doesn't matter
Hey, light roll is actually useful now on ER.
DS2 character if fast and agile as frick
Base walking speed is the fastest in DS2.
>Skulls
>Yearn
A good game shittalked by gaymergayters for being different from their very first hardcore action rpg.
It's still a good game, just the setting and story is more generic, and really has nothing at all to do with Dark Souls other than the name.
Spam, as they say.
Leveling ADP for your first levels so the roll doesn't feel like trash because the devs thought it was a good idea to start everyone with neutered rolls
Never occurred to you to just roll away durrrr? You don't need adp for that. Roll looks pretty damn good to me.
>look I can 1v1 this fight with bad rolls that means the system isn't flawed at all!
Do not reply to me again
Yes if you can fight the most aggressive enemy in the game with "bad rolls" you can fight any gank or boss in the game. Why you think that roll is "bad" I don't fricking know. Your brain is too hooked on iframes I guess and just doesn't know any better.
>Same webm
>Same argument
So make a DS1 or 3 thread than and feel free to talk about whatever the frick instead. Anor Londo woah! What a level huh?
>this direct sequel is referencing areas and events from the previous? WOOOOWW
I CLAPPED WHEN I SAW THE THING THAT I RECOGNIZED
squee i love berserk xd, crypt blacksword so coooolll. im ACTUALLY guts IN REAL LIFE LOL
I enjoyed my time with DS3, but the thing that kills me is uncovering all of these cut ideas for it. If DS3 shipped with that original plot/world design/mechanics it would’ve been so much better.
All FS games
moron
hex builds are fun if you like building both faith and int and blasting dudes with dark magic. it's usually the way i went playing this game.
Game has it ups and downs. Definitely got the best voice acting in the entire series, its not even close.
One of the worst games of the last decade.
Worst souls game
its better than ds3
DS3 is the best so that can't be true
>Scholar
A worse experience than just playing the original Dark Souls 2.
Also level ADP.
the best one in DaS series but contrarians will say otherwise.

>best story, no rehased garbage like 3
3 is not rehashed, it's the conclusion to the series so it brings up stuff from 1 and 2
It is, and here's why
>People lovd DaSI story
>the endless cycle of the lord of cinder, Gwyn, Seath, big tiddy mommy, etc
>DaSII is released
>"nooooo but my hecking lord of cinderino, what do you mean the abyss won? why King Vendrick fought the giants? wasn't he a giant too? I can't understand and this elevator brings me to a lava pit it's not consistent!"
>DaSIII is released
>a fricking furry bishop cosplaying as Seath
>"hey guys, remember Anor Londo? well guess who's back!"
>and femboy Gwyndolin is here too!™
come on now man. DaS tried to go in another direction but fans didn't like it, and they retconned everything in DaS3.
>sequel to a game references said game
WOOOOW
DS3 is practically nothing but references, though. And they're not even really references either. They just directly import shit. Like why are there Silver Knights at all?
are you fricking stupid or just simply ignoring anything I wrote? Is the greentext confusing you?
this
wooooooow maybe I'd care if it wasn't a sequel
If you don't care then why are you even here sperging, sperg?
>be a sperg
>expecting me to not sperg
WOOOOW
>3 is not rehashed
Everything about 3 is a rehash. The story and the environments are a rehash of the first two games with Bloodborne sprinkled in with some enemies and the combat. A bastard game, the worst in the series by far. The only people that think otherwise are newbies that started off with it and didn't know any better.
it's a sequel
No it's a creative bankrupt work, degraded to fit a more wide audience, striped of everything that made it what it is for gimmicks. Ironically enough the trailer for DS2 with all the. "you will die" was looking as the soulless sequel but it turns out that DS3 was the one. On its whole it's just an extremely pretentious piece of work with none of the essence the previous two games had and no legs to stand on its own. More dark souls for the shake of more dark souls, but under the pretty exterior there is nothing.
don't care it's a sequel
don't care it's a sequel
>not trying to explain why
it's a sequel I don't have to explain why
I feel sorry for your parents.
yeah me too
you keep saying the same thing while also not trying to explain why, reiterating the same concept with a new paint, is something good.
it's not just a sequel, the whole theme of the game is "DaS1 was really good so everyone in that universe also love it"
I agree with all of these but the soundtrack. tbh it's pretty ass and outside of Majula theme I can't even remember a single track unlike BB and DaS3 which are tied as best soundtrack for me.
What did Dark Souls 2 do better than Dark Souls 1?
Ruin the series.
It's a deeper game with better character building. Freedom and non-linear progression(1 isn't bad at this, just 2 does it better). It's more challenging. Bosses. Has more content. Variety. Improved ai and balance. And the combat doesn't revolve around circle strafing and backstabbing through 98% of the encounters.
>more interesting weapons
>way better AI for NPC summons, the best in the series
>power stancing
>makes you invest stat points into dodge because it is an RPG
>majula
>removed frame 1 backstabs
>superior PVP, see the main reason above
>poison and toxic actually viable now
>casting speed tied to attunement and not fricking dex of all things
>small soapstone
>omni-directional dodging while locked on
>drop or use multiple items at once rather than one at a time
>bonfire ascetics
>item selling
>fist two handing
>bosses with multiple lock-on points
>can activate bonfires with a phantom present
>actually feels like a finished product
A lengthy Jackass skit where you're the one being pranked
I find it kind of funny how Dark Souls became such a popular and influential game by not really doing anything special. It's just a 3D dungeon crawler but people look at it as something revolutionary just because it's so much better than most modern video games
A game full of flaws, but ultimately endearing, original and full of soul as well. Incredible atmosphere.
The second best Dark Souls
>makes DS2 contrarian purists seethe with rage in its path
>NOOOO ROLLING NEEDS TO BE REALISTIC IN THIS GAME ABOUT PEOPLE WHO COME BACK FROM THE DEAD IN A WORLD OF MAGIC AND MONSTERS
fallacy
Are the servers still dead or did they really just fix DS3 and left the other 2 to die
if you think about it bearer of the curse and ds2 fans share a key trait: their life story is about being a loser and a quitter who wanders off into obscurity, contributing nothing worth remembering

How does this happen?
>they made a highly capable next gen engine and instead of making use of it on the next gen they threw it all away
you do realize this is an animator bool that takes no time to make and adds nothing to gameplay? muh immersion... b***h you homosexual nerds are always so bad at pvp. bunch of snowflake crowbcat wannabe spear suckers
>adds nothing to gameplay
Animations don't matter in video games suddenly, huh?
it has no gameplay effect. it is purely cosmetic. if you like cosmetics go get dressed up, pop on some makeup, and go suck some dicks. sub seeking daddy dom, rawr, must love dark souls 3 and beat me to death for loving ds2. one death = one punch lets get this punch train going boys.... youre all a bunch of sissy homosexuals mouthing off to everyone, jezebel prostitutes.
you clearly like it because its a dress up game for you, playing with dolls. goddamn youre all moronic pole smokers
>it has no gameplay effect
Games usually have a ton of those and there is nothing wrong with it.
if youre doing pvp youre moving, the anim doesnt blend with walking theres literally no reason to be idling around and there is no circumstance where youre going to use this. just lock on and check their bar, dipshit
ever wonder why ds2 continually has less players than DS: remastered? hey maybe its because nobody wants to play your homosexual game for moronic scrubs because its infecting your mind with a gay mind virus
whatever you say schizo
I understand why more people would play pick up and play casual games like DS remastered, yes. 2 is the Tom Clancy of souls games.
you can try posting as many gay things as you must to assure yourself youre not a human cum dumpster but it will never convince me. i know the game is bad, and you are weak, needing to litigate and nag your way to trying to convince people of a lie
why are you even doing bow builds? learn to fricking play the game before you try and say something so dumb.

ahh yes the limitless range lockon

you never invaded with a bowbuild, I see
The best all around souls game and general ludo kino.
>Objectively the most general player agency in any souls game (Most armor, weapons, builds, optional content, and paths through the game)
>By far the most replay-able due to the former and also because of having the best NG+, two DLC you can access early on, a progression gate that you can outright skip with enough Souls on NG+, and mfing Bonfire Ascetics
>Best iteration of the original Souls combat before it turned into a button masher. (Least amount of input lag, input queueing issues resolved, multi-directional roll, increased strafing speed that can actually dodge things, i-frame backstep, most flexible equip load system, power stancing, etc)

Unfinished FromSoft games are still better than 90% of other games
It's a meh game, the game doesn't even try to play fair and there's a lot of jank, but it's enjoyable.
>game doesn't even try to play fair
bro just don't use lock on when surrounded with bunch of enemies and put points into adaptability, simple as.
I know am doing that already
and what's so unfair then?
What's unfair, in your opinion?
The only thing I'd really classify as junk are the sometimes really fricking bad looking environments. It wasn't until the snow DLC and the fricking cats where I started to hate the game to some degree because those fricks feel like their animations were stolen from Life of Black Tiger or something. Black folk move janky as frick.
Not junk but janky, i mean stuff like the game not applying settings correctly when launching not being able to go fullscreen unless your monitor supports exactly 60 hz display mode, some enemy
attacks having weird/inaccurate hitboxes etc. But yeah the backdrop ares do look a bit lower quality perhaps they expected to use depth of field only
Well getting surrounded isn't diificult to deal with but getting overwhelmed is very easy in this game and the game knowingly does it a lot, but in comparison single enemies are easy to defeat. But don't quote me on this i haven't played the game for well over a year now.
>getting overwhelmed is very easy in this game
there was only one place I felt overwhelmed and that was the fight with rats but I did it 3rd try.
>the game doesn't even try to play fair
it's the most fair in the series
>play the DLCs for the first time recently
>get to Fume, remember people constantly seethe about him and his second phase
>takes me a few tries to figure out but the fight is enjoyable
>wonder why the frick I never got a second phase
>look it up
>apparently he just starts in phase 2 if you wear Velstadt's helm since he goes into seethe mode when he's reminded of him
K I N O
An experimental Dark Souls game with strange features and more meaningful damage types.
Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne, and Sekiro are proof Miyazaki should take a step down from directing.
It's only hated by really dumb people who don't understand dream logic, the same folks who think everything in final fantasy 8 actually happened.
What a game.
jank and clunkiness. it did not age well
oh the clunkineess i can't get away panic mashing and spamming the roll button oh what will i do!?
The setting and vibe is very unique, level design isn't perfect but it does physical scale pretty well, boss variety is pretty weak though.
a good game
Impossible to say but you will definitely have an opinion about it by the time your halfway through.
Half way through DS2 I realized it's soulless and kind of shitty and DS1 was superior in almost every way
but I still played it and beat it like 8 times.
9/10
shit bait
No bait. DS1 is one of the best games ever made. DS2 is merely a 9/10 game. The distance between those two distinctions is vast.
If you care about depth and how each game actually plays 2 is much better.
DS2 plays the best out of the trilogy imo. My only real complaint is no screen shake so your heavy attacks don't FEEL heavy.
>2 is much better.
You literally got poked with the other end of the stick. That's how that works.
bro, you good? he's not even swinging it in his direction.

this one actually hit him
I'm literally watching it frame by frame, and it definitely did not. Do you actually have bad vision? Not even giving you shit, actually curious.
The killing happened before he got touched
people who use hacking tools to metagame the games hitboxes without using rolls or blocks deserve to get shit on, sorry. no regular player would ever care about this attacks hitbox extending a few pixels beyond the sword.
players who want to avoid enemy attacks by getting out of the way of them rather than pressing your "i-frame to win" button care. aka, the actually skilled players.
You don't mind DS2s hitboxes then?
this one
is much worse not even comparable
network issue. cheat engine issue
I mean that one can be explained with shockwaves (the actual usage of the meme, not the shitpost version). That ER grab hitbox is just fricking atrocious. Literally DS2 mimic tier atrocious.
Apparently it was a bug that has long been fixed. If it was a shockwave of big hitbox, then the soldier would have been hit too. Seems sussy.

magic is literally unusable in that game, god-awful casting speed and damage output
literally a longsword has like twice the dps
and dark has absurd requirements, which doesn't balance well with the adp needed to dodge or the stamina requirements
Nobody cares that your end game build is broken. The game is over.
>magic has to be broken from the very start of the game
lol ok.
You're in for a lot of seething and coping.
the game is forgiven because it is actually good and challenging not a slog of endless recolored knights and health sponge uninspired brain farts
chalice dungeons
theyre optional
Most enemies in DS2 are optional too..
Also chalice dungeon aren't optional if you want to pvp, since you have to grind grind grind those gems to stand a chance.

The moment where everything truly went wrong in the industry
A game with strong highs and extremely low lows. There's plenty of bosses but there's an extreme amount that have harder boss runs than actual fights. The people saying worse game ever never actually played a true broken mess, it's more of a painfully average experience.

It's just dropped off long term because all of that moved over to /vr/.
>you're wrong.
There was never a kings field thread. This is not a debate.
I've been here since 2003.
they say depression kills your longterm memory
Have you tried going outside?
An unfinished but good game. Its build variety is unironically the best in all of the Souls series barring Elden Ring and quite possibly even more than Elden Ring.
This video addresses most of the issues people have with the game
You can't poise tank and circle strafe backstab entire groups of enemies one after the other through the whole game like in DS1. And it's not a brainless hack n slash where you just roll spam and mash R1 through the whole game with every build or character like in 3. It's fundamentally the best souls game.
A Kino adventure with some jank here and there.
Also the best hub area in gaming, period.
Ganker will NEVER stop seething over this game. It’s a masterpiece cholos, deal with it

You're more influenced by popular opinion than you really think, which was astroturfed by e-celebs, making you exactly the same.
You're more influenced by reflexively contradicting "popular opinion" than you really think.
I actually hated the game for a while personally until I realized I was a fricking automaton parroting talking points I didn't even come up with myself. I'm sure you do the same shit.
And now you're a fricking automaton parroting LE FILTER LE GUD GIT XD to any criticism of Dark Souls 2. Good job totally flipping the script there.
What's worse? Loving something and hurting noone, or hating something and destroying a whole community?
I wouldn't care if the criticism was ever valid, since there is plenty to critique. The annoying part is gay redditors who just say "lol game bad" because some internet personality says so.
>NOBODY ACTUALLY BELIEVES THIS
>THEY'RE ALL JUST ROBOTS SENT BY A YOUTUBER JUST BECAUSE I WAS

that's absolutely fricking moronic. you're absolutely fricking moronic.
So why have i beaten it at least a dozen times and think it's the best game if it's supposedly bad? And who are you? Whose we?
You were having false fun as no sane person could glean genuine entertainment out of Dark Souls 2

Deranged haters constantly lie and make up a game that doesn't actually exist to make it seem like it has problems. It's spelled "principles."

This tells you all you need to know about what their priorities were.Tactical action rpg where you have to outsmart the enemies and the freedom to play however you want; gets replaced with "oh you just roll around a lot." God lmao.
How did things go so wrong? We had it so fricking good. Normies I swear to god ruined everything.
nice try ds2 gay but normies and whatever arent real. what is real is your game sucks, youre a gay, eat shit you aids riddle mongoloid
Frick.

ds2 is all about tactical movement. this gets replaced with "durrr hit the iframe button at the right time I DID IT WOOOPPEEEE" over and over and over again being the only gameplay.
This is only a complaint you'd have if you are bad at timing your dodging.
>you're bad at the game if you don't like shallow and simplistic roll spam
you cracked it iframes actually make the dodging ughhh le harder!
>you cracked it iframes actually make the dodging ughhh le harder!
>ds2 is all about tactical movement.

what the frick do you think video games are except hitting the right button at the right time?! jesus christ youre stupid as a bag of dogshit.
you clearly dont play fighting games, dont understand hitboxes, iframes, animations and flags-- why bother responding when you can barely read and write let alone understand what the hell is going on in gameplay footage? go wipe off your drool and fill the bath. get the toaster and make some toast in the bath
nobody cares about you, you dont matter. you dont get a say
Tekken isn't nearly as skillfull as this hotness:)
>that hitbox
>that giga tracking
holy shit it's like a back to back shit whammy
DaS2 Good
DaS1 and 3 Bad
ds2 fans have bad eyesight
Holy shit iframes and rolling mindbroke DS2gays just because they don't like that their first Souls game is the odd one out among the other games. Imagine if SMB2 gays viciously hated SMB1/3/W just because you could stomp on enemies unlike SMB2.
iframes are training wheels. it's time to grow up
DS2 lost
You lost at DS2 and got salty. Now ER lets you break bosses with pokemans and you're happy because you're so good at the super hard game!
I used to avoid DaS2 threads because I thought they were full of shitflinging but this was pretty alright
