2 is a better video game, but not a better piece of media than 1. You really ought to ignore all the complaints about its tone, because it's easy for people to repeat them ad nauseam without having played 2 themselves. I'd argue that there are a lot of people who do exactly that.

It's been almost 30 fricking years since fallout came out and over a decade since new vegas. People change, people get old, pepole retire. The conditions that gave us 1, 2, NV and frick even 3, no longer exist.

Fo1 and 2 were good but 2 had a slight tone change by having a few too many more references than the first one, but lore wise it expanded and evolved the lore, not to mention that from a gameplay perspective it did improve from the first one.
Then beth got it and absolutely destroyed the IP with fo3 coming back to "everything still looks like bombs just fell" when fo2 already had functioning cities, supply chains and defined factions with their own policies

I want it to have all 3 versions of VATS we've seen so far in the 3d games. I like all 3 for different reasons and would love to be able to switch between them.

      Anonymous

Can you describe the differences between VATS versions? I haven't played all 3 so I'm curious.

        Anonymous

So 3 and NV have it so VATS completely stops time until you make your selection.

4 has it so VATS only drastically slows down time, which allows you to wait for a perfect shot but also let's you still get shot at too.

Since 76 is a multi-player game, it's VATS is in real time. How it works is you first lock on to the enemy, then you can use scroll wheel to select a specific part, or just shoot at the target without picking a part. It's tricky to get the hang of it, but when you do it's really satisfying to quickly select and shoot multiple targets all in real time.

I like all 3, and particularly 76's version, so I'd like to be able to pick what kind of VATS in the future.

    >Replace VATS with either QTE or Bullet Time system
No. Pay for your Jet and Psycho, you fricking cheapstake. You are not getting it for free.
    >Replace Skills/perks with Tree style character builder
Thats literally just Fallout 4 shitty skill tree, but worse and more restrictive, so no.
    >Class/Race selector with different stats (BoS, Ghouls, Supermutants, etc.)
This i would like, especially if they let you play as a Synth, changes at leadt a bit how you start the game, and maybe some unique missions to each other. It would be interesting if they let us play an ASSaultron too.
    >Eliminate Karma. Make faction rep easily viewable
Id say mix a little bit of both, just so some factions can say Frick You for being a horrible person, even if you help them.
    >Arkham Asylum style combo/melee system
If they add back the option to aim for eyes, the groin, or select body parts in melee, sure it would be nice.
    >Ability to dual wield pistols and melee
Also one handed SMGs too. Hell, add it to melee weapins as well, it would be funny to wield double chinese swords and roleplay a fedora wearing weeb.
    >Mounts/Vehicles
If next Fallout game is on some islands like Hawaii, it would be nice if they tice us boats, or at least bribg back the Vertibirds. Otherwise, bikes and shitty rollerskaters for Power Armor might be funny.
    >More radio stations
    More radios are always welcome.
    >Better base building/settlement mechanics
Im pretty sure they will frick it up here, but id be nice if they at least added some cool things.
    Here is my take:
    >Set in some US islands instead of the Mainland.
    >More customizable Raider Power Armor
    >Datesim elements for companions
    >Pet Mirelurk.
    >Ashur Pitt Raiders coming back.
    >Last Boss fight is an intelligent evil Behemoth who is a complete sick frick to the point even the Enclave is helping here
    >Cooking minigame for crafting meals (optional)
    >Survival difficulty here too

Rather than having a permanent settlement the focus would be on a customizable multi-trailer truck that allows you transport crafting resources, companions and deliveries. The map thus would be much larger and there would be both carefully crafted quests and locations mixed in with radiant quests and randomly generated areas.

The most important and lucrative quests would be delivery quests, but there would be many obstacles and enemies on the way. And many quests and locations would require leaving the truck and exploring on land in a more tradicional way. So for example to cross a bridge you would need first to explore the location on your feet before you can cross.

i honestly enjoyed a lot of FO4, the problem was it was a bunch of disparate systems that were individually kind of cool but as a whole the game just doesnt go anywhere.e.g. fun exploration and cool locations, but nothing that interesting to actually find; tons of shit to craft but little of it seems relevant; cool settlement building but ultimately totally meaningless, and so on.

if they implemented a game similar to FO4 but where:

    1) faction alignment actually matters and impacts the game
    2) settlement building serves a function/unlocks actual cool shit/feeds into #1 (factions)
    3) more unique loot

then id be happy. i dont give a frick about the story or role playing homosexualry.

Yes, if you don't want a wrist pipboy you can simply use the handheld one, it makes the whole inventory system make sense, if not you would need to make a completely newinventory management system but then you would basically make the pipboy useless aside nostalgia factor

Hot take: keeping the majority of content contained within a limited number of locations while leaving the overworld a small but well crafted vehicle for travel exploration and immersion is significantly better then trying to completely fill the map with things to see and do and/or having an oversized map that doesn't need to be as big as it is.

Do a proper pure sandbox in the FO universe, just let people do whatever they want instead of kind of coming up with ways to do what they want around a mediocre story that pretends to be an RPG and you need to open up with mods. Just take the leap already, it'll be good.

If they're going to do another settlement mode, I want it to have an actual building mode (i.e. a topdown view of the entire buildable area).
They can rationalize it like you're sitting down at a drafting bench and creating a blueprint for building or something, but walking around and fiddling about the place trying to line things up was complete ass in FO4.

  44. 2 weeks ago

I know this is a shitpost thread, and that's cool, whatever.

But unironically I would not mind if a Fallout 5 had most settlement building stuff in it, provided like, the game actually was physically able to fricking support it. FO4's settlement stuff is bullshit for a hundred gameplay reasons, but there are legitimate concepts there that really could be expanded into real things (honestly, I actually really like the whole system of like, factory machines to constantly turn scrap into guns & ammo and stuff, it just has no actual purpose in the game). The major issue with all of it is that the game by default prevents you from actually clearing/scrapping build sites so you're forced to build around locked terrain pieces that just add nothing, and if you actually do go out of your way to really build shit and really make a big thriving settlement that does all of the things it is capable of doing, the game will fricking crash and die any time you try and travel there or load it.

And obviously this is made way worse with mods that add content to the settlement stuff.

If I had to make a real suggestion, I would point to Sim Settlements 2 because it actually does a lot of key things very well (letting you build entire pre-defined and user-created cities with a button press, letting you actually make buildings and constructions that serve a purpose and also add to a design theme, etc.), the largest of which was actually putting your recruited colonists to work rebuilding a big HQ thing, which could easily be expanded to larger structures in the game world.

I don't want to just place plywood and rusty metal sheet walls around and fill them with sleeping bags and call it a city, that shit is moronic and lazy.
