it's a game about driving, with complex and fun driving mechanics, in which there are no consequences for stealing cars, which are everywhere. that is why it's unnecessary

boy i love when i get kicked out of my single player game because the internet went out. Take that NEETS! Im glad my denuvo game will never get mods, the sacrifices we must make o7

NEET mad that he can't pirate the game, aka was never a potential sale in the first place so his opinion is irrelevant.

Denuvo has been criticised for high central processing unit (CPU) usage and excessive writing operations on storage components, the latter causing significant life-span reductions for solid-state drives (SSDs). Denuvo Software Solutions has denied both claims.[26] In the case of Tekken 7 and Sonic Mania Plus, Denuvo caused a significant decrease in performance in several parts of these games.[27][28] Sam Machkovech of Ars Technica reviewed in-depth how Denuvo was causing performance penalties, releasing an article on the matter in December 2018.[29] In December 2018, Joel Hruska of ExtremeTech compared the performance of multiple games with Denuvo enabled and disabled, and found that the games tested had significantly higher frame rates and lower loading times when Denuvo was not used.[30] Richard Leadbetter of Digital Foundry compared the performance of a pirated version of Resident Evil Village which had stripped out Denuvo and Capcom's additional copy protection against the release version for Windows, and found that the DRM-stripped version performed far better than the released game.[31] It has been confirmed that the stuttering was caused by CAPCOM's DRM and not by Denuvo.[32]

              >It has been confirmed that the stuttering was caused by CAPCOM's DRM and not by Denuvo.[32]
Yeah I'm sure it's just a "coincidence" that most games that use Denuvo across different devs and publishers have specifically stuttering issues as a problem, like Rage 2, Hatsune Miku Project Diva Mega Mix, Callisto Protocol, etc.

Who actually wants a rootkit with kernal level access that forces your single player game online and is so stringent it prevents anyone from making any kind of mods for the game, to the point anti-virus software thinks its a virus?

Who really wants this just so a billion dollar corporation can be sure you bought it?

All game mechanics that aren't fun or useful for the player.
    Your webm is one example.
AAA are full to the brim with meme mechanics like treasure chests, ubisoft towers, cosmetics, bioware-wheels, cold shrinking horse balls, bloat, more bloat.
The best games I've played (Civ5, l4d2, ksp, Rimworld, Factorio) have few mechanics. These mechanics evolved organically through implementation-testing phases. Unnecessary game mechanics are added by execs, non-gamers and morons.
Surprisingly, shit mechanics can be added by technical people when they lose the focus of what makes their game good. Which makes them morons.

Haven't played the others but factorio has a load of mechanics, so I can only assume you're wrong about them as well. Even something as simple piping water into an early game boiler for power has a bunch of different mechanics at play.
There's nothing wrong with frivolous mechanics.

Basically this shows that phantoms are just annoying and don't add anything to the game other than player harassment for the sole purpose of forcing people to sleep.

I actually like this in STALKER even though it is pretty pointless
The thing is it takes like an in game day/real hour to go slightly hungry and you only get some adverse effects if you're really hungry and food isn't rare or expensive at all. It's just a thing youdo when you have a little downtime, helps my immersion/autism

I don't know why open world games don't have a simply "wait around" mechanic. Be it taking out a cig, or just resting on a bench. Was more annoying in missions that required a certain time of day and didn't just forward ahead to it for you (hi San Andreas).

I remember being disappointed by GTAIV at launch by how little there was to actually do in the world. Like there was so much attention to detail, but most of it was just stuff like OP where it's like "Oh that's neat", but you couldn't really do anything meaningful with it.

      Anonymous

My biggest issue was how closed off all the roads were. It makes sense for NYC, but after SA where you could turn down almost any alley or side street and usually find some kind of route or shortcut, in IV it felt like almost every alleyway was either a dead end or full of garbage that you couldn't drive through. The subway was pretty much the one place you could actually go in a pinch to actually get away from a 4 or 5 star wanted level.

I understand what OP is trying to say. I do find it kind of a drag when a game has cool stuff like this, but theres never any good reason to really use it, and you only do so because you just want to see it, even if you know you're kind of forcing it. It does take away from some of the immersion if its kind of pointless. It makes me want a game set in NYC without the ability to jack cars so I would actually have to make means of these other forms of travel.
