ToME is my favorite strictly because it gets rid of a lot of dated mechanics like hunger clocks and random potions and scrolls and stuff. Building characters is just way more fun in ToME vs any other roguelike.
I just play infinite dungeon with some mods in between actual campaign runs. Wish there were more custom campaigns that people made, not sure why there aren't unless it's like a huge pain in the ass or something which it probably is. I maintain like the one tileset that still exists on the steam workshop, and that was kind of a pain in the ass to fix and get working.
Binding of Isaac fricking sucks and the art is horrendous, cringe-tier shit (literally). Shut the frick up.

Honestly DCSS might take the top spot. Constantly evolving game but you can play any previous version, good tilesets (thats a really old version in pic), lots of QoL features, many different areas, 3 rune standard option to win or you can be a maniac and go for 15, lots of spells and items, many race/class/style combos. It has everything.
I wish SotS: The Pit was a better roguelike. It wasn't terrible but i hated that you basically needed to use a wiki for the crafting system. and sometimes if you didn't get the right shit for your build by a certain level you were just totally fricked.
tangledeep plays alright with a controller too, although it's more of a j-roguelike mystery dungeon type game and has some things i didn't like, but its not a bad game.
TOME is my favorite
>nb4 a list of not roguelikes
I like TOME, but I always find myself just getting bored, pushing the Z key until something freezes and then 1-shots me.
pic related is what I would pick as the greatest roguelike.
all classes play fairly different, and the dynamic stories that can unfold as you play are pretty fun.

TOME is too linear.

isn't binding of isaac some reddit quality flash game?
Yes lmao it was literally a Newgrounds game made by some weird motherfricker who has a scat fetish. It's horrible and looks like garbage too.

Nethack
Wish we could get more good space roguelikes too. I've played some Prospector but i just couldn't into it.
DoomRL, nothing else is even close, not even Jupiter Hell
DoomRL is way too simple and two dimensional for me. It lacks in complexity and variation. Hard, hard no for me. Bad call.
I have a sweet spot for Infra Arcana. Simple and difficult and very spooky.
that minimap looks like a wiener and balls ha ha ha

The map looks like a dick
Is your pic really THAT good?
anyone else here play Demon? it's pretty cool, still in dev, but it's got some cool mechanics
Still in dev? I feel like I tried this game years ago
its pretty much done, devlog from literally yesterday basically says they are doing some new map generation stuff and some tweaks and bugfixing
not OP but thanks for thes recs they look good i'm gonna try them.
seems cool i've actually been looking for roguelikes that were designed for a controller
tangledeep plays alright with a controller too, although it's more of a j-roguelike mystery dungeon type game and has some things i didn't like, but its not a bad game.

You all weren't kidding about the CoQ discord. It's really, really, really bad. Does the actual owner of the game know about them?
The owner of the game is in the discord. That's the official community server.
